Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ Great Game For All Ages

March 14, 2023 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

In Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe Kirby is back for a 1-4 player* platforming adventure across Planet Popstar. I have been playing this great game over the past week and have loved it every step of the way.

In the game, float and fight along with friends on the same system as you control Kirby. Each other player can control a different Kirby or one of Kirby’s iconic friends like King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee.

Join forces to save the day

Take on the adventure alone as Kirby or invite other players to join the game as a different Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, or Bandana Waddle Dee. You and up to 3 friends can work together to find missing ship pieces in 4-player co-op on the same system.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ Deluxe

Team up for powerful Team Attacks

Combine powers with other players by riding piggyback! Just press and release the L or R buttons at the same time for a super-strong Team Attack. Effects will vary based on the number of players and who is on the bottom of the stack.

Play subgames for in-game rewards

Travel from Planet Popstar to the Merry Magoland amusement park! Play a colorful collection of subgames, collect stamps for your stamp rally, and earn in-game prizes. Share the fun with up to 3 friends on the same system.

Hop online* to see global fun facts or compete against player records from all over the world in Samurai Kirby 100.

Mask up at the Souvenir Shop

Talk to Souvenir Shop Waddle Dee to dress up each playable character with fun masks inspired by the Kirby series.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ Deluxe

A brand-new story starring Magolor

Alone in a strange dimension and without his powers, Magolor must platform through challenging stages and defeat enemies. You and up to 3 friends can take control of different-colored Magolors for 4-player interdimensional action. Complete the main story to unlock this new adventure!

Power up abilities with Magic Points

Use combo attacks to earn Magic Points to enhance Magolor’s abilities. Get special items to unlock new abilities! Each player receives the same benefits as Magolor’s abilities are leveled up. Master Magolor’s moves and overcome tougher challenges along the way!

My take on the Game

While you may think this game is for children, I will tell you that I found the game to be great for all ages. The game had a ton of great subgames as well as amazing graphics and a fun storyline. I tried out the game as a single player but even more so as a team with some friends and both were equally fun, thought the team play made the game even more enjoyable. I did get to the end of the game and one of the things that was great was that there was an additional chapter after you beat the game with new levels. You play as Magolar who is stripped of all his powers and you have to work to get your powers back. This was a great extra and it added an extra 2 hours or so of game time. One of the other things I liked was that in playing the mini games you are able to earn stamps and then cash in the stamps for masks that can be used on the main levels. All-in-all this was a super fun game for the whole family and I give it two thumbs up!

Game Review – Mario Strikers™: Battle League

November 28, 2022 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Mario Strikers™: Battle League,

About the Game

Do you love soccer? In Mario Strikers™: Battle League, Super Mario series mainstays like Peach, Toad, and Yoshi put their cleats (and stats) to the pitch and will stop at nothing to score.

You can customize your characters with gear that can change their appearance…and their attributes! You do have to choose carefully, though—a gear set can improve one stat but may also lower other abilities.

Mario Strikers™: Battle League,

You can bring together 8 players to go for the goal with local wireless, or online. Bring along a secondary striker on the same system in online battles, too. Locally, 4 players on each team can go cleat-to-cleat in individual matches.

Create your own double elimination tournament with up to 4 players on the same system and earn in-game coins!

Mario Strikers™: Battle League,

My Take on the Game
As a dad with two soccer players in my family I have grown to love the sport and this game really allows you to have some fun as a fan of the sport bringing together characters you know and love and power ups that are out of this world. The game does a good job at offering you a great tutorial and I encourage you to take advantage of this as some of the moves are more advanced and take some practice. Once you get through the tutorial though the game is a ton of fun. I cannot say that I am an expert yet, but I will say that it is a ton of fun and I have enjoyed every part of the game. If you are a fan of Super Mario and a fan of soccer, bring your fandom of both together with this great game!

Game Review – Animal Crossing: New Horizons

April 8, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

About the Game

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you create your own little slice of paradise as you explore, build, and customize your very own deserted island. A cast of charming animal residents including Tom Nook and Isabelle help grow your budding community. Players make the world their own using a wealth of natural resources to craft everything from tools to creature comforts and decorate however they wish. You can even take a break to enjoy a beach sunset while ocean fishing or hunt down insects at the crack of dawn!

  • Build your community from scratch on a deserted island brimming with possibility; Create your personal getaway and customize your character, home, decorations, and even the landscape itself
  • Collect materials to construct everything from furniture to tools! Then, use what you create to give your island a personal touch
  • Watch as the time of day and seasons match real life—even your hemisphere! Each day holds potential for surprises and discoveries
  • Get to know the island residents, garden, fish, decorate, hunt for fossils, and more!

My Take on the Game

I have been a fan since Animal Crossing came out originally so I was extremely interested to see how this new version would hold up to my initial experience. While I have been held-up at home, this game let me create a whole new world (without virus) where I could build a home, make friends and be a productive member of the society. One of the things that I love in this game is that the charm of the first game was not lost in this one, and instead I think it is enhanced even further.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you experience island living. You and two randomly chosen animal island-mates start a new life on a deserted island after purchasing a getaway package from the entrepreneurial raccoon named Tom Nook. You’re handed a tent and a simple set of instructions: build out the island any which way you like, and they truly mean build.

In this game, one of the changes that I see is that you are crafting items from materials collected. This reminded me a bit of Minecraft but with a different type of humor. You don’t really know what will appear next, but you have to be ready for anything. Whether it’s a bathroom towel rack falling from a tree that you can harvest wood from or getting a t-shirt for saying something.

Being able to build in this game is intuitive and simple to do. You’ll find yourself in the menus often as you look up what ingredients are needed to make a furniture, but thanks to New Horizons’ accessible interface it is easy to navigate for all.

One of the cool things that you will experience, if you have never played this game, is experiencing that what happens, happens in real time. So for instance, a character might say “this will happen tomorrow.” When this is said you may think that this means in an hour, but no, it is actually tomorrow. This is something that you have to get used to, as many games do not allow you to experience things in this way, but this game is different and fun in this way.

This game will allow you to tally up hours of game play, which is another great thing for any gamer. The time really flies by, and before you know it, you will also wonder where the time went. The game is fun to play and experience. For any Switch owners looking for something to do during these uncertain times this will definitely allow you to get away from it all for a while. I would highly recommend this game for all.

Game Review: LEGO DC Super-Villains

March 17, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

LEGO DC Super-Villains

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The LEGO Group and DC Entertainment today announced LEGO® DC Super-Villains, the first LEGO game to put players at the center of a villain-centric adventure packed with favorite locations and characters from across the DC universe.  For the first time, a LEGO game is giving players the ability to create and play as their own DC Super-Villain throughout the game. Their character becomes the center of the story, while teaming up with an iconic variety of villains to adventure through the hilarious and original story written in collaboration with DC. LEGO® DC Super-Villains will be available October 16, 2018 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One X®, Nintendo Switch™, and PC.

LEGO DC Super-Villains

“LEGO DC Super-Villains provides players a fun and humorous way to cause mischief by unleashing their DC Super-Villain’s sinister powers and amusing abilities,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “With an unprecedented amount of customization options to choose from, players can create and customize their character at the start of the story, unlocking new powers and abilities as they progress through the funniest LEGO game to date.”

LEGO DC Super-Villains

“The original story in LEGO DC Super-Villains flips the DC universe upside down as players embark on an unforgettable adventure starring memorable villains set across notable DC locations,” said Ames Kirshen, Vice President, Interactive & Animation, DC Entertainment. “DC’s roster of iconic Super-Villains is unmatched and fans will love teaming up with The Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor and a host of others to save Earth from a greater evil.”

LEGO DC Super-Villains

“LEGO DC Super-Villains gives players a new way to play with their favorite DC characters with a splash of light-hearted, villainous antics,” said Sean McEvoy, VP Digital Games, The LEGO Group. “Players will enjoy exploring the expansive DC universe in the way only a LEGO game can deliver.”

In LEGO DC Super-Villains, the Justice League has disappeared, leaving Earth’s protection to a newcomer group of heroes from a parallel universe, proclaiming themselves as the ‘Justice Syndicate’. Renowned DC Super-Villains from the ‘Legion Of Doom’ discover Earth’s newest heroes may not be the heroes they claim to be. With each player’s completely customizable Super-Villain character in command, this team of misfit lawbreakers must join forces to discover and foil the evil plans the incognito strangers have in store.

LEGO DC Super-Villains

At the beginning of the campaign, players can create their own unique villain and main character throughout, while also teaming up with a variety of DC Super-Villains throughout the story mode. As players progress, they will unlock new abilities, powers and can continue to customize their character to take on the evil threat. Friends and family can join story mode at any time with the fun, two-player, local co-op experiences where players can team up in epic boss fights.

A Deluxe Edition of the game, featuring the main game content, Season Pass content and early access to the DC Super-Villains: TV Series DLC Character Pack, is now available for pre-order.  An exclusive LEGO minifigure, Lex Luthor Superman, also comes with the physical version of the Deluxe Edition, while digital consumers will receive the Justice League Dark DLC Character Pack with their Deluxe Edition.

My Take on the Game

One of the things that I like the most about LEGO games is that they are so family friendly and they are made to be played by any and all. I would have to say that in playing many other LEGO games, this game is one of the most fun games that I have played recently. As a fan of the DC Universe, I have played games that focus on heroes, but not on villains.

In playing the game I have to say that the game play was better than I expected. Even better though was the plot itself. I found that the plot was much better than the last LEGO Marvel game that I played in the past.

It was a lot of fun to take control of the villains that you did not always think you would have an opportunity to control, and interact with others that again, you would not have thought possible.

In this game the super villains have to come to the rescue to save the world from Earth 3 Justice League dopplegangers. As you use your character you will find that the character interactions are authentic and that there is some great banter going on as well as some cool non-verbal cues as well.

One of the things that was unique in my opinion was the fact that you could create your own super villain. With this, you could build their powers up throughout the game and while you may not play your character most of the game, it is still fun to have the character there in the background just in case.

In the game, much like other LEGO based games you will defeat enemies, collect LEGO studs and solve puzzles as you work through the levels.

Puzzles are character ability specific. Some areas in the level are locked first playthrough since some characters abilities can’t be used until later since they’re not unlocked during the time of the story.

Boss battles are somewhat easy. Most come down to: wait for them to do their special attack, they will get dizzy, then do a free hit on them. Keep doing this and you will win!

This is a fun game and if you love DC you will love this, as it gives you a taste of the evil-doers for once!

Harry Potter Collection

About the Harry Potter Collection

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group today announced the launch of LEGO Harry Potter™: Collection for Nintendo Switch™ and Xbox One, bringing the top-selling videogames LEGO® Harry Potter™: Years 1-4 and LEGO Harry Potter™: Years 5-7 together in one remastered package.

Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, LEGO Harry Potter: Collection unites the signature humor of LEGO games and the expansive Wizarding World for a thrilling journey full of spell-casting, potion-making, and puzzle-solving fun. The compilation features content from the eight films with enhanced graphics, environments, lighting and visual effects, along with two downloadable content (DLC) packs.

Harry Potter Collection

“The LEGO Harry Potter: Collection for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One brings the entire LEGO Harry Potter adventure to a new generation of players to enjoy,” said Jonathan Smith, Head of Production and Strategic Director, TT Games. “Gamers can journey back to Hogwarts for a light-hearted, humorous and interactive journey told through all of the Harry Potter films, sure to delight fans and newcomers alike.”

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is based on the first four films—Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone™, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™ and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire™—allowing fans to experience Harry‘s first four years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in full LEGO form.

http://www.dadofdivas.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/20181103_155704.mp4

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 transports players through the final four films—Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix™, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince™ and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ Part 1 & 2—to experience Harry’s last years at Hogwarts™ and his battle against Lord Voldemort™ in the ultimate fight between good and evil.

Harry Potter Collection

This action-packed adventure also offers two previously released DLC packs, including a Character Pack featuring Godric Gryffindor, Harry (Yule Ball), Helga Hufflepuff, Lockhart (Straightjacket), Luna (Lion Head), Peeves, Hermione (Pink Dress), Ron Weasley (Ghoul), Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin, as well as a Spell Pack featuring Cantis, Densaugeo, Ducklifors, Melofors and Tentaclifors.

My Take on the Harry Potter Collection

Are you a true Harry Potter fan? With this new collection of games you can re-live all of the years where you have come to love Harry, his friends and his enemies. You can start in year one or year five and work your way from there. As you move through the game you will learn how to use magic and be able to work with different characters to be able to accomplish different tasks.

In playing this game, I found that like other LEGO games you have to break things, find hidden items and accomplish different tasks to be able to complete the levels at an expert level. The nice thing about the game is that you can play for hours or just a short period of time and still have a ton of fun.

Harry Potter Collection

I loved being able to switch between characters as each is unique and as you come to find their strengths and weaknesses you will have to use them for different reasons.

Being someone that has read all of the books and also watched all of the movies, this game followed the tenor of both the books and the film. It does leave out detail, but I expected that.

In the end you get hours of Harry Potter fun all wrapped up in one collection of games.

If you are a Harry Potter fan and you love gaming, this collection is for you!

Retro Handheld COnsole

My Take on the Retro Handheld Console

If you love old school gaming, this Retro Handheld Console will be something that you will completely love. The RETRO Handheld Console is filled with a ton of games. There are so many games to choose from. Now, you do have to realize that this will be gaming like you had in the last 1980’s and early 1990’s so graphics will be old-school as well.

I found that the game play was a ton of fun and with the large number of games that are available you can simply get lost for hours trying games that are similar to ones you have played before and completely new ones too.

I found games that were a blast and some that I did not completely care for, but I would expect that in a system with hundreds of games.

I loved how portable this was and because of this you could bring it with you no matter where you went. Also, you get a lot of gameplay on the batteries that you put into the unit itself.

All-in-all this was a lot of fun and if you love gaming and especially old-school gaming, then this would be the unit for you!

Game Review: Scribblenauts Mega Pack Giveaway

October 11, 2018 by dadofdivas 8 Comments

Scribblenauts Mega Pack

About the Game

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment just launched Scribblenauts Mega Pack, a new collection of two hit titles featuring upgraded versions of Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, including new content for both titles. The game is available now for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®4 Pro, and the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X with a MSRP of $39.99.

Scribblenauts Mega Pack

Scribblenauts Unlimited features a huge, side-scrolling open world with high-definition, hand-drawn scenery and objects. Players help the game’s hero, Maxwell, solve robust puzzles and challenges by summoning objects as varied as “colossal hoverbus” and “microbial fire tornado.” Scribblenauts Unlimited has been updated with two new bonus levels, supports online sharing of user-created objects, includes an updated two-player mode, and features the easy-to-use “sunflower” style text entry system.

Scribblenauts Mega Pack

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure melds the boundless creativity of Scribblenauts with thousands of DC characters and objects – all drawn in the distinctive Scribblenauts art style. In Maxwell’s imaginative and comical quest with DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains, he must travel to iconic DC locations such as GOTHAM CITY™, METROPOLIS™, ATLANTIS™ and two new bonus locations, TITANS TOWER – under attack by the formidable demon Trigon, and BELLE REVE – the base of operations for Task Force X. Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure has also been updated with hundreds of new DC characters, objects and costumes, such as Sun Boy, Wonder Dog and El Dorado and is sure to delight and surprise ardent DC fans.

Scribblenauts Mega Pack

Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure are rated E10+ with Cartoon Violence & Comic Mischief.

Scribblenauts Mega Pack

My Take on the Game

Publisher Warner Bros. Entertainment did a stellar job at combining both Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure – and packaged them together in the Scribblenauts Mega Pack. The creative mix of puzzle solving, exploration and platforming has always shined brightest on Nintendo platforms (Unlimited debuted on Wii U and 3DS, after all) and now Switch users get to put their own imaginations to good use.

This game brings in games that you have known and loved for some time. Scribblenauts Unlimited still represents the series at its best. The story is solid and the gameplay can last for a very longtime depending on the player themselves. follows the adventures of Maxwell and his sister Lily, who are bestowed with a magical notebook and an equally mysterious globe by their adventurous parents. The pad enables the user to create anything by writing its name inside, while the globe has the power to whisk you anywhere in the world. However, when Maxwell plays a trick on a gnarled old man, his sister finds her feet have turned to concrete. Now it’s up to our red-helmeted hero to head out into the world and use a collectible resource called Starites to help free her.

The game allows you to control Maxwell completely and if you need to get creative and draw wings on something to let it fly, you can! The great thing about the unlimited game is that there is no limit to how you can solve a problem. Well… you can’t use brand names or anything adult-oriented, but I have to say kudos for the flexibility that the game does offer.

The Mega Pack also comes with Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, a sequel that builds on the approach to creativity perfected in Unlimited and throws in 2,000 DC characters for good measure. Much like LEGO DC/Marvel games, the developer did a great job at bringing in what makes these heroes and villains timeless and weaved it into the Scribblenauts universe.  Now you can visit Gotham City, Metropolis and more as you utilize everything from Batman’s batarangs to Doctor Fate’s helmet to solve all manner of comic capers. As a comic book fan, this was an amazing add-on and definitely something that I loved having for myself!

The same power to add adjectives to characters and objects returns, so an extra layer of fun comes in as you turn Green Lantern into a zombie or make Wonder Woman a giant version of her normal, lasso-wielding self. This also features a system that penalizes you for using the same nouns and adjectives over and over again; if you want better rewards, you’ll need to use that imagination of yours. It’s a welcome twist, and one that suits the higher stakes Unmasked offers. And that’s not to mention the most obscure characters from DC canon that the developer took the time to include just in case some comics aficionado wants to show off their lore knowledge. This new double-pack even includes two brand new locations – Titan Towers and Belle Reve – so those looking to double dip have extra content to chew on.
Scribblenauts Mega Pack brings two great games that any fan of Scribblenauts will love, and even if you have never played this before, you will love the creativity that is encouraged as well as the mental fortitude for coming up with great words to assist the characters!

Cars 3: Driven to Win

My Take on the Game

This game is set to follow up after the Cars 3 movie. You are provided with over 20 characters from the movie, thus the game really is working to capitalize on the franchise and share some of the character that you love too (including animations and sound bites for each character too).

The tracks that are in the game are a ton of fun. I found that 5 of the tracks were returning from the Cars 2 game, but there were an additional 5 new ones that were added that were based on locations from the Cars 3 world.

One of the things that my girls and I loved was that the characters could be customized with different horn noises, light effects, tires and flame effects produced when driving at turbo speed. This customization made the game that much more fun in our opinion/

You can play with up to 4 players which also was a ton of fun as well.

My daughters particularly loved the Battle Race, which is the standard mode of the game where you race opponents to the finish line, utilizing 14 different weapon pick-ups – such as tracking rockets, Gatling guns and bombs. Additionally, you can tow certain items found on the sides of the track, such as explosive barrels. You can choose to hold these behind you as a defensive maneuver or fire it at passing rivals.

You also can have fun by doing things like driving on two wheels or driving backwards.

Race Mode is more of the same without the use of weapon pick-ups, Takedown Mode sees you blowing up non-sentient cars for points, and Best Lap Challenge allows you to test maps to perfect your times. There’s also Master Level Events which are essentially boss fights, as well as the Cup Series, the tournament mode for the game.

You have a lot of options to change the conditions of the race for your next match after every race which makes each time that you play it unique.

One new mode that you should be aware of is the Cars 3: the Thomasville Playground. This reminded me a lot of the Disney Infinity toybox as it is an open play area where you can drive around with complete free will. This mode allows you to practice or mess about on your own or with friends, with the option to compete in battle challenges around the map.

Cars 3: Driven to Win has a lot of depth with a plethora of modes, with the achievement-based Hall of Fame feature unlocking more content as you play.

The game is not simple. It does take some effort to place in the races when you are racing against the computer, so be aware of this. You also have to be a bit careful when it comes to manual drifting as the controls are touchy and you can find yourself crashing if you are not careful!

In the end this is a fun game that any Cars 3 fan should love. There are some great new play additions that you will love and it is challenging too!

In ARMS, you can choose between 10 unique fighters from around the world, equip a combination of extendable Arms and then use a mix of quick hand motions and button presses to take the fight to your opponent. The game is a blast to play for people of all ages, whether they are familiar with fighting games or not. But even though ARMS is accessible to everyone, it still possesses enough depth and strategy to appease the most hardcore of fans.
