SunBriteTV – Outdoor Weatherproof Televisions Are Perfect For Your Outdoor Spaces

June 4, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Lately I have been working to build out a space outdoors that I can use on a regular basis. Part of the work in looking into this is to provide a space where we can watch some television if we want to, when we want. I have been researching options for televisions that can stay outside (in covered and uncovered locations) and I came to find that the SunBriteTV Veranda series is a family of weatherproof televisions designed for full-shade applications but also have options including: Full Shade (Veranda), Partial Sun (Signature), and Full Sun (Pro).

Why is this important? Well, first indoor TVs don’t belong outside. SunBriteTV s are made-for-the-outdoors products. This means that you are safe to have these type of televisions out in the elements and also enjoy being outdoors as well.

SunBriteTV

This is an important advancement, in my opinion, because I have been talking to more and more friends that are trying to create outdoor living spaces and while they may not have initially thought about technology such as this, with the current advancements in the field all-weather TVs both enhance the outdoor lifestyle and are made to stand up to whatever is thrown at them. Also, in budgeting out this project, I have found that creating an outdoor home theater is one the most affordable room additions you can make to your home, and to be honest, the best seat in the house is in your backyard!

SunBriteTV s are engineered for permanent outdoor installation and are more durable, safer, and higher performance than using indoor TVs outdoors. Because of this there is no more choosing between enjoying great weather or watching the game and instead it’s all about bringing the conveniences folks are used to indoors outside.

Movie Review – PBS Masterpiece Little Women

May 10, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

PBS Masterpiece Little Women

About Little Women

“MASTERPIECE: LITTLE WOMEN” will be available on DVD and Blu-ray May 22, 2018. The run time of the program is approximately 180 minutes.  The DVD SRP is $24.99 and the Blu-ray SRP is $34.99. The program will also be available for digital download.

“Little Women is one of the most-loved novels in the English language, and with good reason,” says writer and executive producer Heidi Thomas. “Its humanity, humor, and tenderness never date, and as a study of love, grief, and growing up it has no equal. There could be no better time to revisit the story of a family striving for happiness in an uncertain world.”

Heading the cast are Academy Award® nominee Emily Watson (The Theory of Everything, Hilary and Jackie) as Marmee, the devoted mother of the four adolescent March girls; Michael Gambon (Churchill’s Secret, Page Eight) as Mr. Laurence; and Academy Award® winner Angela Lansbury (Murder, She Wrote, The Manchurian Candidate) as the March family matriarch, Aunt March.

The March sisters—the “little women” of the title—feature newcomer Maya Hawke as the willful and adventurous Jo; Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series) as the eldest and most virtuous, Meg; Annes Elwy (King Arthur: Excalibur Rising) as the shy sister, Beth; and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) as Amy, the youngest of the family.

Also appearing are Jonah Hauer-King (Howards End) as Laurie, the loveable boy next door; Dylan Baker (The Good Wife) as Mr. March, who is serving as a chaplain with the Union Army; Julian Morris (Mark Felt) as John Brooke, Laurie’s cultured and handsome tutor; and Mark Stanley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as the charming Professor Bhaer.

A celebration of family as much as it is a recognition of the challenges of growing up and forging an individual identity, the program remains relevant due to the universal themes at its core. Backed by a nearly all-female creative team, Thomas’ adaptation doesn’t shy away from tackling the darker, more complex emotions the March family experiences. Drawing from a novel that was well ahead of its time the show speaks to current issues as much as it does to the issues women faced at the turn of the 20th century.

Devotees of the original novel will relish the book’s indelible scenes in this MASTERPIECE production: the cruel fate of Jo’s manuscript, Amy’s accident on the ice, Meg’s first ball, Beth and the forbidden piano, the pickled limes affair, and many other cherished episodes in a journey to a bygone time.

Although modern society would be disorienting in the extreme to the March sisters, Thomas notes that even today “girls are still confused about their desires and their desirability, and the passage from innocence to experience is more turbulent than ever.”

“We need hope, and we need empathy,” she adds. “We need laughter, and we need catharsis, we need joy and inspiration. LITTLE WOMEN gives us all of these things.”

“MASTERPIECE: LITTLE WOMEN” has been commissioned by Piers Wenger and Charlotte Moore at the BBC, and is produced by Playground (Wolf Hall, Howards End) for BBC One. The series is a co-production with MASTERPIECE on PBS. The producer is Susie Liggat. Executive producers are Colin Callender and Sophie Gardiner for Playground, Heidi Thomas, Lucy Richer for the BBC and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE.

My Take on the Movie

As a father of two girls I have wanted my girls to read this book soon and when I saw that the PBS Masterpiece: Little Women series was coming to DVD I was excitedespecially when I asw the cast. I have seen other versions in the past and some have been great and some not so great so I did not know what to expect in this one.

While watching this with my daughters I can honestly say that this series was definitely a great one. The series covers both the Little Women and Good Wives books and follows the four March Sisters through their childhood and adult lives. The series covers so many things in the lives of these women, both the high and low points and even touches on important moments in American history as well.

In my opinion, the series portrays the sisters well and they found perfect actresses to play them too.  The series also shares some of the hardships that the family and the women feel throughout their lives and the actresses do a superb job at sharing the emotion of the scene in the perfect fashion.

What was great was that not only do you get some known actresses like Emily Watson as Marmee and Angela Lansbury as Aunt Josephine, but you also get a number of newer actresses that you may not know yet.

I was particularly taken by the acting of Maya Hawke who plays Jo. Maya does a remarkable job at capturing Jo’s tomboy nature without going over the top. She shows a wide array of emotions in her character which draws the viewer even closer into the film and she does all of this without overplaying the mannerisms that you would expect Jo to embody!

There is still love shown in many ways in the relationships that the women have with others and these relationships are also built well and the love that is shown is tangible.

In the end this adaptation of the text did a wonderful job at maintaining the overall feel of the text and also adding in some of the new nuances that make the viewer connect to the story as well. I have to commend the BBC and the cast for a wonderful job and I highly encourage all to enjoy this great film with your own!
Finally, what makes this version of “Little Women” special is that it’s not afraid to occasionally expand on the material – and unlike “Anne with an E”, it does so in a way that’s faithful to the spirit of the original story. For instance, there’s a beautiful moment on Meg’s wedding day in which Marmee goes into the room where all her daughters are preparing, and for a moment she’s struck dumb as they turn and smile at her. She wishes them well, leaves the room, and then stops to let herself have a little cry in the hallway, knowing it’s the last time she’ll have them all under her own roof. It’s just lovely in its poignancy.

So well done, BBC. With high production values, excellent casting, deft directing, and a full understanding of the classic story and its characters, you’ve made a worthy adaptation of “Little Women”.

Holiday Gift Guide – Roku to the Rescue!

December 17, 2017 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Roku Streaming Stick

With the holiday season just around the corner, you need to consider a great gift that will let you stream TV entertainment in a fun new way. A Roku streaming stick is a simple way to stream entertainment to your TV. The Roku Streaming Stick provides you access to your favorite streaming channels (Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc.) and more than 500,000 movies and TV episodes to choose from. Like all Roku players, there’s no monthly equipment or subscription fee.

I had never tried the Roku before, but in taking this out of the packaging I found that the Roku Streaming Stick was so easy to use. All I had to do was plug in the Roku device and I could start using it. Yes, I had to have subscriptions for some of the other services, but seeing that I had a few of the subscriptions already I found that once I signed into services like Netflix and Amazon I could start watching shows on them with ease.

Roku Streaming Stick

One of the nice things that I loved about the Roku was that I could take my Roky Streaming Stick with me wherever I was going. Thus, the device did not have to stay connected to the same television. If I was traveling I could take it with me and thus bring my favorite shows with me too.

I also love that on The Roku Channel there is a ton of free entertainment plus you can get free shows on channels like ABC, CW, PBS, CBSN, and YouTube. You can access Hollywood movies on channels like FandangoNOW, VUDU, Amazon Instant Video, and Google Play. You can access Live TV and sports on subscription channels like Sling TV, PlayStation™ Vue, WatchESPN, and CBS All Access. Also, you can find original content, movies and the latest TV shows on subscription channels like HBO NOW®, Starz, SHOWTIME®, and Hulu.

Roku Streaming Stick

This is a great device and seeing that you can get the least expensive device for only $29.99, the Roku devices will open you and your family up for watching some amazing shows in the future!

Marvel TV and Freeform Set Cast for Marvel’s New Warriors

July 11, 2017 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

New Warriors

Marvel Television, Freeform and ABC Signature Studios today have completed casting for “Marvel’s New Warriors,” their previously announced new comedic live-action adaptation of the popular Marvel comic featuring young adult heroes. “Marvel’s New Warriors” marks Marvel’s first foray into comedy for a live-action television series slated to debut in 2018 on Freeform, Disney’s young adult television and streaming network.

Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” features six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

Milana Vayntrub

Milana Vayntrub (“This Is Us,” “Silicon Valley”) as Doreen Green a.k.a Squirrel Girl

Doreen is a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a … squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.

Derek Theler

Derek Theler (“Baby Daddy”) as Craig Hollis a.k.a Mister Immortal

Craig can’t die … or so he says. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all – he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what’s the rush?

Jeremy Tardy

Jeremy Tardy (“Dear White People,” “Ten Days in the Valley) as Dwayne Taylor a.k.a Night Thrasher

Brilliant and noble, and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.

Calum Worthy

Calum Worthy (“Austin & Ally,” “Cassandra French’s Finishing School”) as Robbie Baldwin a.k.a Speedball

Robbie is an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.

Matthew Moy

Matthew Moy (“2 Broke Girls, “Steven Universe”) as Zack Smith a.k.a. Microbe

Zack is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and with whom you’ve hung out. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him.

Kate Comer

Kate Comer (“Hello My Name is Doris,” “The Comeback”) as Deborah Fields a.k.a. Debrii

Deborah is proud, funny and quick-witted. A low-level telekinetic, very low like she can move a paper cup.

“I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them,” said series executive producer and showrunner Kevin Biegel.

“We’re so lucky to have assembled such a diverse and incredibly talented cast,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb. “We can’t wait for the fans to see what’s in store when we unleash these iconic characters into the world!”

“At Freeform, we are committed to finding distinct and entertaining characters that our audience can enjoy and relate to,” said Elizabeth Boykewich, senior vice president, Casting and Talent, Freeform. “We are excited to be working with Marvel Television to bring these fiercely average superheroes to life and watch them take on the world.”

The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Kevin Biegel (“Cougar Town,” “Enlisted”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s The Defenders,” “Marvel’s Punisher”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s Inhumans”) as executive producers.

Audiobook Review – Heroes Reborn- Book 1:Brave New World

October 18, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

heroes-reborn
 photo disclaimer_zpsflpjm0lf.jpg

About the Book

As Heroes Reborn approaches its third week, more and more questions regarding both new and old characters are piling up. One way to learn more about the beloved characters is through  by prolific science fiction author and former Judge Dredd Magazine editor David Bishop.

The first of six thrillers, Brave New World addresses many previously unanswered questions, offers new information about characters and treats readers to a deeper examination of the Heroes universe.

Based on original drafts from the first episode of Heroes Reborn, the novella is set one year after the events of the Odessa Summit and reveals a Heroes universe radically different from the world fans of the original series once knew. The evolved humans—or ‘Evos’—are held responsible for the events at the Summit and forced to either go into hiding, or fight back.

The Heroes Reborn eBooks and audiobooks are the first books officially connected to the hit NBC show. Penned by different bestselling authors—including New York Times-bestselling author Timothy Zahn and multi-million bestselling novelist Kevin J. Anderson—the stories extend and expand the Heroes universe for both longtime and new fans alike.

My Tawhat I coiuld do ke on the Book

I am a huge fan of the show Heroes so when I heard about the new series this season I wanted to see what I could do to explore the orld I am such a big fan of the show and now this…even better…cant wait for the other 5. The first one is nice and very close to the pilot i watched yesterday and its a real Heroes book!! – so I can’t wait for book 2-6 that will bring some more light into the open space of heroes and more background stories and and and….I am so excited !!!

What is great about this audiobook and book is that the book itself includes some great information not seen in the TV episodes. You also get some great commentary that helps to bring context to the new series too.

If you are a fan of the original Herors series or the one this fall, this is a great add-on that will draw you in and will support your fan passion too! Check it out!

descendants

As fan fervor for Disney’s “Descendants” grows around the world, a sequel script has been commissioned from the movie’s screenwriters Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon who will also serve as executive producers on the project, “Descendants 2” (working title), it was announced today by Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.  “Descendants” is cable television’s fifth highest-rated movie of all-time.

Marsh said, “By almost every measure – domestically and globally – ‘Descendants’ has already become one of the biggest entertainment properties of the year and we’re eager to delve deeper into the unfolding mythology of Auradon and Isle of the Lost.  This kind of compelling, innovative storytelling, alongside our animated ‘Descendants: Wicked World’ shorts and unique transmedia campaign, continues to lay the groundwork for multiple franchise opportunities across virtually every line of business at The Walt Disney Company.”

On Saturday, October 17, the stars of Disney’s “Descendants” including Dove Cameron (Disney Channel’s “Liv and Maddie”), Cameron Boyce (Disney XD’s “Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything,” Disney Channel’s “Jessie”), Booboo Stewart (“X-Men Days of Future Past”) and Sofia Carson, and Kenny Ortega will celebrate with fans during an on-stage, music and dance-filled event at Downtown Disney District, Disneyland Resort, in Anaheim, California.
