How to be a Dad to Kids Who Love Sports

How to be a Dad to Kids Who Love Sports

Being a dad is one of the best jobs in the world. There is nothing quite like having children that you love and adore. If you are ever lucky enough to be able to call yourself a father, you should cherish that greatly. As tough as it may be at times, it will be ten times more rewarding and enjoyable.

Of course, everyone wants to be a great dad. However, that can be easier said than done. A major part of being a great father is helping them discover who they are. If your child is particularly sporty, there are some ways in which you can parent to benefit from that. So how do you be a good dad to a kid who loves sports? Here are some things to consider throughout your parenthood.

Be Able to Play With Them

When kids are young, they love trying new things. However, it can be difficult to try them on their own at a young age. This is why it is so important for you to get involved with them. This applies to sports as well. Your children likely won’t enjoy playing the likes of football or basketball by themselves. You should be enthusiastic about getting involved with them and making connections. If you are unable to play with them due to physical reasons, you should try and get them resolved. For example, if eyesight is the problem, Motwani Lasik Institute is a great solution. Their reconstructive repair center will get your vision back to the point where you will be able to enjoy sports with your children. If your problems are more to do with your muscles, you may want to consider a trip to the physio.

Gymnastics

Don’t Force a Particular Sport on Them

As a father, it is far too easy to accidentally push your favorite sport on your child.  After all, it would be great if you both had such a common interest. However, it happens far too often when a parent forces a sport on a child; they end up disliking it. After all, no one likes to be forced into things. You can introduce them to it, of course, but do not push too hard to the point that the interest breaks. Let them discover a variety of sports, from here they can figure out what they enjoy.

Bring Them to Live Events

A great way to further your kid’s interest in a sport is to bring them to a live sporting event. The atmosphere and the professional skill level will give them an amazing insight into the world of this sport. Of course, you should make sure that they are age-appropriate events for your children before bringing them. If this is a sport that you are not particularly interested in, you can learn the sport with them. This could even actually prove to be more beneficial if you learn about the sport together. Going to live events will also create some great memories for your family.

Alex & Me Movie #Giveaway

June 18, 2018 by dadofdivas 6 Comments

alex & me

**“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.”**

In Alex & Me teenager Reagan Willis (Agudong) has one dream – to play soccer like her hero, Alex Morgan. Her bedroom is a shrine to all things Alex, including a life-size poster of the Olympic gold medalist. Yet in the Willis house, Reagan lives in the shadow of her prep football superstar brother, Logan. When Reagan fails to make the cut of the premiere local soccer club team and is humiliated by her rival Claire, she’s certain her ship has sailed. But after accidentally hitting her head, Reagan’s poster of Alex Morgan suddenly comes to life and everything changes!

An Olympic Gold Medalist and FIFA Women’s World Cup champion with a penchant for goal scoring, Alex Morgan is one of the top soccer players on the planet, currently playing forward for the United States Women’s National Team and the Orlando Pride of the National Women’s Soccer League. Away from the field, Morgan is also an accomplished author of “The Kicks” series, a collection of chapter books filled with wonderful messages of empowerment for young girls. The first The Kicks book, “Saving the Team,” debuted at No. 7 on the New York Times Best Seller list.

Eric Champnella (Thunderstruck, Mr. 3000, Eddie) wrote the Alex & Me screenplay and is also making his full-length feature debut as the film’s director. Alex Morgan serves as co-producer. Producers are Mike Karz (Blended) and William Bindley (Mother’s Day). Todd Williams (The Illusionist) is the executive producer.

Jerry Trainor (iCarly) also stars as Nigel, a less-than-reliable youth soccer coach, alongside Matt Cornett (Bella and the Bulldogs) as Reagan’s brother, Logan; Colin Critchley (Legends of the Hidden Temple) as Reagan’s soccer-playing pal, Ben; Chuiti Tiu (Nashville) as Reagan’s mother, Ann Wills; and Jim Klock (True Detective, Scream Queens) as Reagan’s father (and biggest fan), Joe Wills. Jessica Treska (HBO’s upcoming Sharp Objects) plays Reagan’s arch-rival, Claire.

Alex & Me will be available on Blu-ray (SRP $24.98), DVD (SRP $19.98) and Digital (SRP $14.99).

My Take on the Film

As a soccer dad myself I have to say that my daughters love Alex Morgan and are in awe to what she does on the soccer field. They were very excited to see this movie and as we watched this they mentioned numerous times that they would love to have met her for themselves.  The plot is somewhat predictable but there are great laugh points throughout and has characters that you and your family will love to get to know. The film is inspirational for kids that have a dream and also shares some quality messages regarding perseverance, hard work and teamwork.

Make Memories and Get Dirty This Summer With Maytag #MyFilthiestPlay

August 26, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Maytag for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

undefinedEven though I have girls, I still love to have fun. Whether it is making mud pies, riding offoad or simply pulling out the sidewalk chalk to make a new masterpiece, it is all about engagement and getting in there and making memories. Inevitably we typically get dirty along the way. The problem always is, if you do not have a great washing machine that can get your clothes clean you sometimes feel like you have to walk on eggshells and not get dirty.

For us our girls get into tons of activities that can get a bit dirty at times including things like:

  • Soccer games and practices
  • going fishing in the creek behind our home
  • Playing in the Sand
  • Getting down in the grass and simply having fun
  • Cooking in the kitchen

This is just a small list, but as you can see, they are busy and love to get into things!

Sports can be messy

That’s why I am so glad that Maytag has come out with the new Top Load Washer and Dryer units as they are designed to handle any filthy mess, even big league stains! They were designed, engineered and built in America and created specifically to help parents like me with the deep down stains that come with parenting, and especially parenting kids that are rough and tumble like my eldest Diva-J is! This is important, as there have been many times, especially now that my eldest is playing soccer all of the time when we thought that clothes were goners for sure. No more with these great appliances. Now I can rest assured that  Maytag laundry has my back and that my clothes are safe in their capable hands.

Show Maytag Your Filthiest Plays of the Week

“#MyFilthiestPlay” engages players and fans of all ages. Sliding, diving and other “filthy” plays are some of the most fun and exciting parts of baseball, and nothing is better equipped to handle the filthiest of baseball stains than Maytag washers and dryers.

To get into the fun you can upload a picture or video of any their child’s “filthy play”. The content can be of any ball players at any level. You Too Can Be A Soccer #SidelineHero!

May 4, 2015 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

#SidelineHero

She shoots, she scores! That is always something that a father loves to hear, especially when it comes to his own daughter this time of year. Being a Soccer Dad, you are called on to not only be there to cheer on your own child and the entire soccer team, but many times you are also called on, sometimes at the last minute to be a #SidelineHero during practices or during or prior to a game. There have been many instances where I have been called on to bring in a snack, and while I know it would be oh so easy to purchase unhealthy snacks, I know that what the girls really need is healthy snacks and other things that will allow them to recoup their own energy lost during the game or practice and one way I do that is with a Powerade Game 12-pack and some fresh fruit!

#SidelineHero

You see, so often this time of year my daughter is running from one game to the next. Even this past weekend, we had soccer practice on Friday, and a game on Saturday and Sunday. By the end of the weekend she is wiped and so are her teammates. As a dad, I can definitely empathize with that and I want to do what I can to help.

#SidelineHero

Sometimes even when I am not asked to I will head over to my local Walmart to pick up some POWERADE® Game 12-Pack drinks just to give the girls a pick-me-up. Why POWERADE®? For me, as a dad, I like that the POWERADE® ION4® Advanced Electrolyte System helps replenish four electrolytes lost in sweat: sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium that they lose when they perspire (or is it glisten. Also that POWERADE® is formulated with Vitamins B3, B6, & B12 to support energy metabolism, and a 6% carbohydrate solution to help provide energy to working muscles. I also mix this with fresh fruit. Sometimes I go all out and create something unique like you see below, and sometimes it is simply having something like apples, or bananas on hand to fill them up just enough with good stuff and not just bringing the traditional processed food that I know tastes good to them, but also that I know will not be good for their growing bodies.

I do what I can to be a #SidelineHero. I am not trying to be a Superdad in any sense, just a Dad that wants the best for his daughters and for her teammates too!

Below is a recipe that you can try at home!

#SidelineHero

Game Day #SidelineHero Soccer Skewers

Select your favorite fruit. There are so may to choose from at your local Walmart! I chose the following for my Skewers based on their texture, flavor and color:

  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Kiwi
  • Pineapple
  • Apple Slices
  • Strawberries
  • Rasberries
  • Blackberries

#SidelineHero

Take the fruit and cut into 1 inch X 1/2 inch sections (all except the blueberries and strawberries) – large enough to make sure that they can fit through the skewers themselves.

Once cut, take wooden skewers and thread the fruit on individual skewers. You can select the order of the fruit and get creative.

There is no set number that you have to make, but I typically make enough so that each girl on the team can have two skewers and I bring enough for their brothers and sisters that are inevitably there and want a snack too!

Look for a coupon on the 12-pack 12 oz POWERADE® packages and you can get $1 off Walmart fresh produce when you buy two 12-pack 12 oz POWERADE®. Hurry this deal is only available while supplies lasts!

Product Review – The Ball Claw

December 13, 2009 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

The Story Behind The Product
Like many great ideas, the Ball Claw started in a garage. The inventor John Kurcheski, creative designer of toys and other products, met Kurt Kay, business owner and entrepreneur, at a garage sale and both knew something amazing happened that day. They both decided to throw caution to the wind and start a business designing, manufacturing and marketing a brand new product.

The product, The Ball Claw, had been in the mind of John for years, but without the right match in a partner he was never able to move forward. Both Kurt and John pulled specific important people in their lives to create a team that has all the components needed in developing a business. With a common interest of new innovative products, creative genius and the necessary drive and energy to develop a product from scratch, The Ball Claw was born.

Everyone started working right away, sacrificing their day jobs and home life that had long provided security and financial safety for a need to search for “that one thing” that really makes you tick … that thing they had not yet found in life. So the creators got to work quickly and diligently, in the garage of course, while the business minded researched patents, LLC development and finances. Time of day or night was not a priority. Through patent application, marketing research, manufacturing, testing, packaging, display, website, logo design, trade shows and sales and here we are, our vision of the Ball Claw finally in our hands, with a finished product that we believe in and stand behind.
The Ball Claw holder is a quick and easy way to organize sport balls in any garage, basement, or child’s bedroom. Preserve the life of basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, and footballs while displaying them in an organized fashion. Inside, outside, and in any kind of weather, the Ball Claw is THE way to display, organize, and preserve your sport ball collection. We think you’ll find the Ball Claw holder to be a perfect companion to your volleyball net, your soccer goal, or your basketball hoop system.
My Take On The Product
When I got this product I was quite intrigued. Can this truly be as easy as it states it is? After trying it out, in fact it is that easy. Installation is a snap and once up, the balls just lock into place. So whether you have a trophy football that just has to get displayed or you just want to clean up the loose balls around the garage, this product is a great one and will/can organize your life.

For me, I plan to have all three of the ones sent to me up in the garage in the near future to get the balls off the ground. I particularly like the fact that Diva-J (and soon to be Diva-PJ) could easily place the items into the holders, so there is no excuse for the balls to be anywhere but in its’ rightful place (this will make J-Mom very happy!).

So check out the ball claw today, I think you will be pleased with what you find!

The featured product in this post was provided to me free of charge by the producers of the product. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by the company. Please refer to this site’s Terms of Use for more information.
