Ore-Ida Sweet Potato Fries by Heinz = Sweet, Delicious Fun!

June 29, 2011 by dadofdivas 3 Comments

Sam’s Club – The Warehouse of Champions

On Monday I took on an opportunity to go to shop at Sam’s club to go on a hunt to search for Ore-Ida Sweet Potato Fries by Heinz. As a sweet Potato fan, I was intrigued to see how I would like these as well as my family who are a bit luke warm to sweet potatoes themselves.

I had seen the advertisements for this and had been hoping for a chance to find them, but had not seen them in my local grocery store yet and did not even think to go and look at Sam’s Club for them (silly me!) was thrilled at this chance.

#OreIdaFries Were Well Marked in the Store

My search for them at Sam’s Club was successful and I have to say that I loved how well marked Sam’s Club was in their freezer section. All you had to do was look at the signs on the outside of the freezer to find the product you were looking for. I was surprised that all of the Ore-Ida fries were not right next to one-another, but I was still able to find them without a problem.

When I got them home, the bag was super easy to open and it was a snap to make them. All you had to do was place them on a cookie sheet and bake, the technology did the rest. When they came out of the oven, the smell was heavenly. We ate these with fish sticks and carrots, as we were in a hurry (T-Ball night), and though my kids can sometimes be picky eaters, both raved about how good these fries were. They even wanted more (though I didn’t have any more made at the time).

#OreIdaFries go with Anything
Happy Faces Eating #OreIdaFries
Yes She Did love the #OreIdaFries, She Wanted More in the End!

I have to agree that these were tasty, sweet and crunchy, they take the taste of the sweet potato and make the fry taste even better (in my humble opinion.

All-in-all though these fries were great and I would highly recommend them to all!.

Check out my Intersect showing more of my shopping experience here.

Don’t forget to check Ore-Ida out on facebook! Also here is the link to their site to learn more about the Sweet Potato Fries!

It’s Grilling Time! Stepping Up For a Challenge…

April 19, 2011 by dadofdivas 19 Comments

I was recently challenged to go to Sams Club and shop for supplies to grill something amazing in preparation for Easter. Yes, I said Easter, and yes you can grill your meal on Easter. You don’t have to simply use your oven! Anyway, I scoured my books and recipes and found an amazing looking pork tenderloin recipe that I knew would be perfect. The one that I found was called: Disappearing Tenderloin. Yes, this name sounded very promising, as with having two little divas with tastes that vary, I wanted something that would disappear from their plates. The recipe was found in the

-a cookbook I highly recommend!

The recipe include the following:

CookingHeat Instruction – Cook With Indirect Heat on Medium

FOR THE MARINADE:
1/3 cup fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon molasses
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 pork tenderloin, about 1 pound each

FOR THE RUB:
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic

FOR THE PICO DE GALLO:
2 cups finely chopped ripe tomatoes
1 cup finely diced red onions
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 to 2 teaspoons minced serrano chiles, including seeds
1 teaspoon kosher salt

Extra-virgin olive oil

TO MAKE THE MARINADE: In a small bowl whisk together the marinade ingredients.

Trim any excess fat and silver skin from the tenderloins. Place the tenderloins in a large resealable plastic bag and add the marinade. Press the air out of the bag and seal tightly. Turn the bag to distribute the marinade, place in a bowl, and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours, turning occasionally.

TO MAKE THE RUB: In a small bowl combine the rub ingredients.

TO MAKE THE PICO DE GALLO: In a medium bowl combine the pico de gallo ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to stand at room temperature for about 1 hour to fully incorporate the flavors.

Remove the tenderloins from the bag and discard the marinade. Coat evenly with the rub and lightly brush or spray with olive oil. Allow to stand at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before grilling.

Grill over Indirect Medium heat until the centers are barely pink and the internal temperature reaches 155°F, 25 to 30 minutes, turning once halfway through grilling time. Remove from the grill, loosely cover with foil, and allow to rest for 3 to 5 minutes before cutting in thin slices on the bias. Serve warm with the pico de gallo.

Back to my experience, this was a multi-step recipe and I am more of a one step kind-of-guy, but I tell you this was fun. I did document my experience at my local Sams Club below and I hope you will go and check it out.

More check-ins at Sams Club
Powered by Whrrl

I have to say that I was amazed at the variety that Sams Club provides its members. It had been a little bit of time since the last time I was at my local Sams Club, and in going this past week I was happy to find that the idea of providing bulk amounts for reasonable prices has continued in earnest.

I was happy to find some very good deals for people preparing for Easter including:

  • Kingsford® Original Charcoal ($16.68) – Lights easier and burns longer with Sure Fire Grooves®. Ready in about 15 mins
  • KC Masterpiece® Barbeque Sauce ($5.98 for two)
  • Greek Orzo Pasta ($4.38 per pound) – Made fresh daily
  • Delmonte® Corn ($5.58 for 8) – Perfect side dish
  • 3-Gallon Beverage Dispenser with Removable Ice Core and Infuser ($19.88) – Ice core is great for keeping beverage cool while infuser can be used for adding flavor
  • Easter Lilly ($16.88) –Traditional Easter plant with fragrant white trumpet flowers
  • Porcelain Platter and Oval Bowls Set ($19.98) – Beautiful for entertaining, yet durable for everyday use

There were a ton of other great deals (some of which I used myself). What I am getting at here is that if you are not a member of Sams Club, or you haven’t been there for a while, you should go and check it out as you may be pleasantly surprised, like I was, at the breadth and depth of what they have to offer customers!

Merchants Flock to Third Annual Free Shipping Day

September 23, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

It is Luke Knowles’ vision for Free Shipping Day to become a household name in holiday shopping vernacular. With the response generated by retailers for the third annual Free Shipping Day – which is slated for Friday, December 17, 2010 – it appears that vision is taking shape. More than 240 merchants have signed up to participate, which is ahead of schedule compared to last year. Knowles projects that more than 1,000 retailers will be involved with the one-day shopping event when participating stores offer free shipping with delivery by Christmas Eve.

Free Shipping Day was created to extend the online holiday shopping season for merchants and give procrastinating consumers one final chance to surf the Internet for holiday deals. Merchants like the event because it extends the online holiday shopping season to almost a week before Christmas. Consumers relish the day because it allows them to procrastinate and still get the ideal gift to its intended destination on time. “This summer, we sent out an e-mail to merchants who were involved with Free Shipping Day last year and they were quick to sign up again,” Knowles said. “Since this will be our third year, there is more recognition and familiarity among retailers. They have seen a favorable response from being involved in the previous two events.

Knowles – who created the popular shopping web site FreeShipping.org with his wife, Maisie, in 2007 – hatched the idea for Free Shipping Day just two weeks before the event in December 2008. In an abrupt brainstorm, he thought that retailers would relish the opportunity to extend the online holiday shopping season, which typically peaks in early December because consumers are concerned about their gift orders arriving to their intended destination in time for Christmas.

Among the merchants who have signed up for this year’s Free Shipping Day include Dell, Nine West, Macy’s, Cabela’s, Overstock.com, Neiman Marcus, Disney Store, Crate & Barrel, DSW and Sierra Trading Post.

“Free Shipping Day encourages people to continue buying items online later into the month of December,” Knowles said. “It is a money-saving measure for consumers and a way to extend the online holiday shopping season for retailers, so everyone benefits.”

    Ramblers Way Provides Great Comfort

September 1, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Ramblers Way. All opinions are 100% mine.
I am always the type of person that is looking to have comfortable clothes to wear that actually fit me. One of the things that I was so  impressed with when I was told about this company was that the clothes are 100% natural.

In looking at the Ramblers Way website, I looked around at what was available and found a few things that I would probably grab if given the chance. I was impressed with the shirt you see on the left. What I liked about this one was the fact that the shirts are designed to keep you warm (or cool) and comfortable, with American-farmed and produced superfine Rambouillet wool. The natural, breathable fabric has been worsted spun to create a shirt with remarkable smoothness, softness, and strength.

I appreciate clothes that are soft and comfortable on the skin. These clothes completely fit the bill. I also like the fact that the wool for these clothes are American farmed, as I love to be able to support American companies.

I have to be honest and say that when I have thought about wool in the past (even in wool sweaters that I have owned), they tended to be bulky, heavy and itchy. This company is producing something different. Comfort in wool without all of the above factors.

Some of the things that I liked about the products were the facts that the products:
    1. Superfine American Rambouillet 18.5 micron wool, for superior next-to-skin softness and comfort
    2. Versatile indoor-outdoor garment, perfect for all occasions and activities!
    3. Breathable fabric warms and cools effectively to maintain optimal personal comfort. Wear it throughout the year, in warm and cold weather.
    4. Natural blonde color reflects the authentic, unspoiled color of our superfine wool
    5. Repels moisture and odors through natural wool fiber. Go days without washing, dries quickly, and stay warm even when wet
    6. Machine-washable and dryable, through a natural enzyme, to resist shrinkage and keep its shape
    7. Chemical-free, includes no harsh treatments, bleaches, chemicals, or dyes. Won’t irritate skin.
    8. Sustainably farmed and produced in America, with low environmental impact, humane treatment of livestock, and to benefit American farmers and workers.

Overall, I am very impressed with this company and what they have done to reinvent what wool is and how we as consumers see wool. Goodbye itchy, bulky wool products!

Book Review – People of Walmart.com; Shop and Awe

August 18, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

    About the Book
From the wildly popular website Peopleofwalmart.com, which has received close to half a billion page views since its inception in August 2009, this collection of Americans in their natural shopping habitat is sure to take the world by storm. Featuring 200 photographs and captions, 70 percent of this book HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN UNTIL NOW, plus fan-submitted stories of their most random experiences, People of Walmart presents people of all shapes and sizes, wearing and doing everything imaginable, all in full view of the fellow shopping public.

And to think… this all started after two brothers and their best friend had an inspirational trip to Walmart!
So welcome to a world where no shoes and no shirt are no obstacles, where parking lots are filled with dead deer, Bengal tigers, and old men in thongs riding bikes. Follow the dominatrix on her quest for Winnie the Pooh Pampers. Peek into the life of the elusive she-mullet. And explore the refrigerated grocery section, where chicken fingers and hairstyles are frozen in time. Once you meet the People of Walmart, you are sure to fall in love…and you might even recognize yourself walking down the aisle, captured in all of your glory.

    My Take on the Book
Ok, with reality TV I thought I had seen everything…WRONG! This book truly opens your eyes to some of the strange and unique individuals that have been found frequenting Walmart in the past. Some of the images were funny in a perversed kind of way. I don’t normally like to laugh at the expense of someone else, but to be honest this books makes it hard (in most cases) not to laugh at what you are seeing.

I have frequented Walmart in the past, and though the images found here did get taken at Walmart, I have never noticed these types of people at Walmart, so maybe my Walmart is immune. At the same time, I have not spent hours of time sitting in watchful anticipation for a person that fits the mold.

If you have visited the popular website Peopleofwalmart.com and have enjoyed what you have seen there you will definitely like this. If you do not like having a laugh at the insane antics and choices of others (in most cases), this book may not be the right book for you.

For me, I did have a laugh about this, but I know that I will not be sharing this with my girls anytime soon .

If this book aounds like something you would like in your own library you can find it on Amazon!
