Where to Shop for Your Wife

July 3, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Where to Shop for Your Wife

When it comes time to get your wife a gift, finding the perfect one can be tough. Well, shopping for women, in general, can be tricky. You want your gift to say “I love you,” “I hear you,” and “I know what you like” all in one item, and it can be overwhelming searching for just the right one. Here are some ideas of places to shop for your wife that will sure to be successful, whether it’s for an anniversary, birthday, holiday, or no particular reason at all.

Jewelry stores

What woman doesn’t like jewelry? Choose from earrings or other piercing jewelry, necklaces, rings, bracelets, anklets, or even tiaras – the list goes on. It helps to know what kind of style your wife likes before you go store to store looking for the right pieces. Does she like long, dangly jewelry, or something a bit more low-key or understated? Does she like ornate, intricate designs, or minimalist pieces? Is she a fan of gold or silver, or maybe a different option altogether? There are a few secrets to buying the right jewelry, but the key to picking out the perfect gift is choosing what she loves and will wear, rather than what you think is pretty.

Clothing stores

There’s no such thing as too many clothes, especially for the ladies. Before you start shopping, you need to figure out what size she fits in for tops and bottoms, and what her brand preferences and style preferences are. Remember, you’re not buying clothing you want to see her in, you’re buying her clothing she would wear and probably wouldn’t buy for herself, while still choosing something trendy.

Consider what skirt length she wears, how casual or fancy she dresses, and what colors she prefers. Think about any hints she’s dropped if you’ve passed by a storefront recently because chances are; she has pointed to an item in the window and exclaimed, “I love this!” You just need to remember what it was or what store it was from. Doing your homework will help you find the perfect trendy plus size clothes to surprise her with.

Stores that add personalization

Getting a personalized gift is a heart-warming experience because it shows your giftee took the extra bit of time to customize something just for you. There are lots of stores that will add a tag with a personalized note when you purchase an item as a gift, but you can do better than that. You can find something for your wife that was made just for her with only her in mind, and with so many choices, you can’t go wrong.

Build-A-Bear Workshop is an adorable gift that’s customized from start to finish, where you could even recreate your wife as a cuddly teddy bear (if you think that’s what she would appreciate). Another fully customizable and fun gift idea is to put your favorite photo of yourselves on a mug, poster, or t-shirt. For a more practical gift, get a photo frame or necklace engraved with her name or a short inscription honoring a special date.

No matter what gift you get for your wife, she probably will recognize it’s the thought that counts and she’ll love you for it regardless, but why take the risk of getting her a present she won’t wear or use? With these tips, you will be sure to find the perfect present she will remember forever.

In-store: Why the Brick and Mortar Experience Is Best for Smartphones

June 22, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Sometimes it seems like Amazon has taken over the world. It started out as a bookstore. But it really found its niche among tech geeks looking to buy random gadgets during the decline and ultimate demise of Radio Shack.

Now, It is the everything store, for everyone, everywhere. There has never been a retail phenomenon quite like it. Yet despite its undeniable success, it is still not the best way to shop for everything you need.

There are good and obvious reasons why you would still want to shop for shoes and clothes at local retail stores. Your computer monitor will never get the colors just right. Besides, the color you click on may not be the color that ships.

Then there is texture. You can’t tell how a garment feels to the touch by looking at a digital image. And we all know that sizes are not an exact predictor of how something will fit. It may be your size. But for reasons of cut and style, it still may not fit.

Buying a smartphone and things related to smartphones are more like apparel than you might think. Here are some of the reasons it is best to do your smartphone purchasing IRL rather than online:

Fit and Finish

You only need to visit your nearest AT&T store to understand why local retail is better for purchasing smartphones than doing so online. For starters, you get a true sense of the fit and finish of the device.

You can’t tell how a smartphone fits in your hand until you hold it. Will your thumb reach the top of the screen? Can you use it one-handed? Does that edge annoy you because it is sharper than it looked in the pictures? You will never know the answers to these questions without physically handling the device.

There is also the matter of getting answers to questions before you buy. No one is going to answer your sales questions when you buy online. Smartphones are very complicated. And it is natural to have questions before you buy. It is a little like buying a car these days. With something as involved as a smartphone with its technology and payment plans, you are much better off in store.

Feast Your Eyes

Remember all that fuss over the Pixel II XL’s substandard screen? Some people were frightened away from that phone because of the coverage. They never saw it for themselves. Many who saw it in person decided that it wasn’t so bad after all. Others made a decision based on a side-by-side comparison with other phones. None of this is possible online.

There is also the matter of fashion. We may not choose a smartphone entirely for fashion reasons. But it is still one of the big ones. 75% of smartphone users put a case on their phone. The biggest percentage of case users are iPhone owners.

You want to see how a case fits, looks, and feels on your smartphone. These things cannot be fully determined by online photos, videos, or testimonials. You want to buy your accessories in the store for much the same reason you buy pants in the store.

On the Spot Repairs

Under no circumstances is it better to send your smartphone to some unknown location for repair. There are many manufacturers that handle repairs this way exclusively.

But if you have an iPhone and live near an Apple Store, there is nothing better than being able to walk in and have someone look at your device, make a decision about how to proceed, and fix it right there on the spot, or give you a new one.

Don’t let your mobile mishap story end in dissatisfaction after two weeks of sending it back and forth in the mail to some company that never has to look you in the eye. When it comes to repairs, it is always better in person.

As long as smartphones are a thing, there will be a need for local retail outlets. You will always need hands-on time to determine fit and finish physical access to fashion accessories, and the peace of mind of same-day repairs.

Shop.co is a Universal Cart browser extension that lets you buy any product, from any online retailer: no more registrations, checkouts, or losing your cart.

This sounded like an extension that I would definitely like. If I can save money and time when it comes to shopping I am all for it. I downloaded the free extension and gave it a whirl and let me tell you, it is amazing!

Shop.co is a Universal Cart browser extension that lets you buy any product, from any online retailer: no more registrations, checkouts, or losing your cart.

With Shop.co you are able to purchase from multiple sites with ease and you can do it all from one checkout. No longer do I have to go from site to site to get the shopping done. Better yet, I do not have to scour the internet looking for coupon codes that actually work. Instead the bots in Shop.co search for you and find deals that you will want to use for yourself. Shop.co makes shopping convenient and simple and I find now, with the use of this extension I am completing more of my sales because I am not having to go from site to site!

Shop.co is a Universal Cart browser extension that lets you buy any product, from any online retailer: no more registrations, checkouts, or losing your cart.

Features

  • Shop Everywhere: Add any product, from any online store in the US, to one cart
  • Register Instantly: Shop.co ‘s  bots take care of the entire checkout process, so all you have to do is click “Place Order”
  • Save It For Later:  Keep products you’re still thinking about in one convenient spot.
  • Save Money: Bots scour the web for available coupons to be applied to your order
  • Manage Orders: Keep track of every purchase you’ve made with Shop.co with one simple login.
  • Free Your Inbox: Keep all order related emails in your Shop.co dashboard, so you can finally clean up your personal inbox.
  • Link Your Accounts: Use all your existing retailer accounts so you won’t miss out on points or perks.
  • Stay Secure: We secure your data with state-of-the-art encryption methods and two-step verification.

The Shop.co Universal Cart from Shop.co on Vimeo.

I have been really impressed with Shop.co thus far and in doing even a bit more research I was excited to see that the company can be used to checkout at every online store in the US – over 170,000 in total!
That’s close to 1 billion products available for online purchases.

The company states that the average amount saved per order using Shop.co’s automatic coupon and
deal finder is $5. In using this myself I found this to be true as well, and many times I found I could save even more than that.

Shop.co is a Universal Cart browser extension that lets you buy any product, from any online retailer: no more registrations, checkouts, or losing your cart.

This definitely does save time. The company did a bit of research and found that the average time saved by checking out with Shop.co versus manual registration and checkout is 12 minutes. If you buy online once a week, that’s 624 minutes saved per year – or long enough to catch up on a full season of Game of
Thrones with time to spare for reading spoilers.

I highly recommend that you try the Shop.co Extension for yourself! If you would like to try it, download it for yourself here.

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

When it comes to fathers day or really any holiday people always ask me what I want and I never know what to say. I get accused of having too expensive of items on my lists (I like technology, what can I say!). The other challenge that I run into is that I don’t always have the best way to keep track of the things I really want or share those things with others. That has all changed with the a new service I recently tried out called Shopswell.

Shopswell gave me the ability to share my thoughts and ideas on things that I think are simply great, or things that I really want for myself. Seeing that I like to share this type of information with others anyways, it made a lot of sense to partner with Shopswell and become one of their Ambassadors.  You see, as an ambassador I get to make my own lists on Shopswell and share them out with all of you (not that you have to buy anything from me though!).

So What is Shopswell

Shopswell is the new home of smart shopping, with cost-saving technology, reviews and recommendations from a quality-savvy community, and authentic videos served up into one simple interface that empowers your best shopping experience ever. At Shopswell you can get the right product at the right price.

Making Lists!

As I mentioned earlier, Shopswell gives you the power to create lists of things that you love and share them with your friends and others. As you can see below I have made a few examples of things that I like to share with all of you! The sky is the limit here. Say you like Reading mysteries. Make a list of the must read mysteries of all times and share this out online so that others can enjoy and share too!

I am looking forward to keep using Shopswell as time goes on, keeping track of things and sharing great thoughts on fun stuff that others will love too!

Here are a few examples of the lists that I have made.

So join Shopswell today and begin creating lists of your own! Don’t forget to share them and tag me while you are at it, as I would love to see what you have created!

Surviving Back To School Shopping #dadchat

August 8, 2014 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

English: Exterior of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in...

Surviving Back To School Shopping

If you go shopping this time of year you’ll most likely see a swarm of moms and dads with kids in tow as they prepare for the soon-approaching school year. Every big box store has television ads and a 10-page spread showing how their sale is better than the next store’s sale. School supply shopping is an arduous task and not for the faint of heart. Lines are long and people can be ruthless. So, instead of making my wife endure the struggle another year, I stepped up to the plate and took our girls along for the mission.

My wife was nice enough to send me out with what could only be perceived as battle tips and I was sure to listen. Stick to the lists, keep an eye on the girls, and don’t forget to use coupons. Easy, right? I thought she was kidding but comparing it to battle was fair. Either way, here’s what I got out of the experience.

Nailing Down The Supplies

Supply shopping can be confusing, particularly since school supply lists can change. Stick with the grade appropriate staple items until the final list comes out. Specialty items are expensive and your child’s particular class may not require the items. Rather than purchasing a new character backpack every year, invest in a more expensive but durable option in their favorite colors. The concept of paying $50 and it lasting several years is much better than paying $15-20 but replacing it every year and sometimes mid-year.

Some stores, particularly office supply stores and department stores, will offer what are referred to as loss leaders – bottom dollar pricing to get you to do all of your supply shopping in their store. If it doesn’t require a drive all over town, it’s worth it to buy these items and move on to the next store. Check the ads to find what stores are offering the best deals. If items are ridiculously cheap but you don’t need them, considering purchasing them to donate to a school supply drive or your child’s own school.

Don’t Go Crazy On Clothes

Kids grow at an alarming rate and clothing be expensive. Everyone wants to look their best on the first day of school but that doesn’t mean you need to spend a fortune. When it comes to clothing stick to the basics for now. Limit the kids to one pair of jeans, two tops, and a pair of shoes. Look for items with a bonus, like pants with a free belt or a shirt that can be dressed up. The kids need some new clothes since they’ve likely grown since last year but there’s no need to buy a whole new wardrobe right now. Believe it or not, it’s actually best to shop just after school starts. More than likely, the stores ordered excess and in order to clear the post back-to-school shelves, they’ll mark these items on clearance.

Unwinding At The Hair Salon

Everyone needs a fresh new haircut to start off the school year and this will be the most relaxing part of your day, especially if it’s anything like our experience at Hairzoo. Appointments aren’t necessary at many places but are recommended, especially at busy times like these. If your child is trying a new style, have them bring a picture of their idea with them so there is no confusion. Just be clear in what you’re wanting. Look for coupons or discounts you can use to save any additional money.

All in all, it wasn’t too bad. The crowds rivaled those of holiday shopping and were equally daunting, but I came out ahead with an experience. Best of all, my wife made one of my favorite meals to thank me for freeing up her day.

As A Dad I Want to Look My Best @LandsEnd #dadchat

April 4, 2013 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

landsend1.jpgAs a dad and as a man, I want to look good, not only for myself, but for my family and so that my girls can see that I take pride in how I look and so should they. This has been a bit of a reversal over the years as for many years I had the same clothes that I had been wearing for years, and I kept these clothes as long as I could to make sure that I did not have to spend my money unwisely. Now I see the error of my ways and look for clothes that are of high quality construction and that will last for a long time, but also will maintain the look that I want to maintain for a long time.

Some of this has come about because of the work that I do on a daily basis. Working in a university setting where I have to wear a suit and tie everyday, I know that I am in the spotlight and I also see many of the professionals at higher levels than myself dressing like this too, which is always a good incentive for a person as well.

So you can probably guess that I was pretty excited when I was asked my Lands End to try out one of their new shirts. I have been aware of Lands End for some time, and their name to me has always been one that I attributed to high quality. One of the other things though that Lands End means to me personally is customizability. Why do I say this you may ask. Well… as a shorter gentleman, I find it very difficult to find clothes that fit well. I usually cannot go into stores and find a wide array of shorts in my size and don’t get me started on pants. With that being said, Lands End is great because I can custom order specific sized clothes and know that they will come to me with no strings attached. On top of this Lands End has a great return policy so if clothes do not fit right, you can return them easily!

landsend

On top of this Lands End always has great sales going on so you can find some great deals. I went on today and found over 40 coupons that could be used online available…talk about great deals.

I mentioned that I had been asked to check out Land End’s new Polo line. Lands End came up with the perfect way to allow a man to pick the right polo for themself and on top of this they have a great line of Polo Shirts to choose from available in short-sleeve for under $50 and long-sleeve for under $75 including:

  • Dressiest – Supima Polo – Upscale style made from America’s finest cotton for smooth, soft results that look great.
  • Coolest – Dri-Release Polo – Made for a day on the golf course or any summer day because the special pique wicks moisture away for hours of comfort.
  • The Classic – Mesh Polo – Textured ringspun combed cotton offers years of wear.
  • Most Casual – Super-T Polo – Just as comfortable in fit and fabric but with a stylish collar.
  • Sportiest – Rugby Polo – With game-inspired details like rubber buttons, twill collar and underarm air vent for cooling.

They also just released an infographic that helps you choose which of the above is right for you!

landsend2

I decided to try out the Men’s Regular Long Sleeve Stripe Zip Rugby.

What I loved about this shirt was that not only was it of high quality construction, but on top of this it was warm. I also loved the zip up front that provided a different look depending on whether you had it up or down. As I Said before I want to look good, and I have to say that through shirts like this and so much more on the Lands End site, I am continually reminded about this and encouraged to continue coming back for more from this company in the future as I know that I can expect great things from them now and in the future and you will be able to as well.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My daughter took this picture of me in my new shirt…what do you think?

Making the 4th of July That Much Better With @Sears #SearsPatio #GrillingIsHappiness #cbias

July 4, 2012 by dadofdivas 18 Comments

For me the 4th of July has always been about family and celebrations. Whether it has been celebrating at home or at family or friend’s home, we always tend to get together with others to celebrate the great nation that we live in, but also just celebrating the ties that bind us together. This year, instead of traveling to my inlaw’s house, we will be having a celebration at home (much of the reasoning behind this is because of what day of the week the 4th falls this year). We will be having a few friends and their kids over and will be having our own little celebration followed by fireworks that are sent up at a church which is within sight distance of our home, so we can watch them from our deck.

I am not the type of person to go all out with decorations or anything like that, but we do plan to have our whole deck set out and allow for the kids to have their own table as well so that they can have fun too. Don’t get me wrong, the American Flag will be flying and we might even have some fireworks of our own!

I was excited to be selected to work with Collective Bias on the #SearsPatio #GrillingIsHappiness campaign, as I had not been to Sears in a while and had not really explored the Sears Outdoor Living Section lately, as the last time I was there was around Christmas time and there were no outdoor patio sets or grills available at that time (or at least the selection of grills was vastly limited). I was asked to either shop fora new Patio Set or a New Grill, and let me tell you this was not an easy decision as both were needed and Sears did offer some great options for both.

When I went to the store I was impressed by the variety of things that they offered in store, as I had explored their online site (See below for links) and I knew that they had a wide selection of grills and patio sets. I was particularly impressed with the number of grills that they had in stock. From Weber to Charbroil and many others, you have a wide variety to select from.

I weighed my options and found a number of patio sets that I liked in the store, and I would have to say that the grill conundrum was equal, as my mind was left a bit boggled as there were so many options.

The salesperson that we worked with was very helpful and I was interested to see that he and his fellow co-workers were all using IPad devices to connect customers with their online sites. He showed me the items online as well as reviews that were there and as I continued my exploration, he kept track on his IPad of the items we were considering. At the end of the shopping trip he let me know about this and that he would email me links to all of the products that I had been considering in the store. How slick is that, and all he had to do is get my phone number and based on my Shop Your Way Rewards Account, he sent everything to my home email address.

I decided not to purchase anything at first as I wanted to go home and think about all of my options, explore the links that had just been sent to me as well as the rest of the Sears site itself and then make a final decision.

When I got home, the email that the salesperson mentioned was there and there were a ton of great resources included in the email itself. I explored these and the Sears website and I found both to be very helpful. I was happy to see that they had a review section as in two cases, patio sets that I considered were not receiving positive reviews from customers in regards to their overall outdoor durabilty, so I chose to steer away from these.

In the end, my wife and I chose to go with a new grill. Why did we choose this? Well, we do a lot of grilling and have come to find that Michigan weather is many times rough on grills. I have never had a grill that has held up to the elements after only a few years, nor a grill that I would write home about saying that it cooked better than what I could do inside (which really is not grilling). I have been a fan from a distance of Weber Grills for some time, but have never stepped forward to purchase one due to the overall cost. This shop gave me the opportunity to step over this and purchase the Spirit Weber Grill. I would have preferred the Genesis (The next size up), but no Sears stores in our area had this available and I would have had to pay over $100 for shipping, so that was not really an option.

I have just put this grill together in time for the 4th and I found that it did take a little longer than I had first thought, as I misused a few screws that I thought were to be used in another area, so it was definitely user error on my part. We ended up having our 4th of July Big get-together yesterday, and the grill worked amazingly well. The meat cooked thoroughly and I was impressed with how easy it was to use. The picture below shows you the last batch of meat that I had to throw on after my first batch was complete (people were eating a lot). People remarked later that the meat tasted great and I know that in part it was because of the tools that I was able to use!

What about you? What are your plans this 4th of July and is grilling a part of the plan?
