Labeling Your Child’s Items Saves Time and Money

June 6, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Labeling Your Child's Items

Many kids suffer from anxiety, and it makes it very hard to make friends. It can be even more embarrassing for a child when they show up at summer camp with their underwear marked up with dad’s labeling system. It can be a cause for teasing and embarrassment but it can be avoided. The answer to the dilemma is LeeLee Labels.

The Benefits of Labeling Your Child’s Items

Many clothes and items get lost, especially children’s clothing. It can be frustrating, expensive and a source of stress. Buying labels to label all of our child’s articles of clothing helps to ensure that they don’t get lost. It is also a way to keep things organized if you have multiple children to pack for. It makes packing a breeze and will also reduce fighting between siblings or even other children who may mistake another child’s clothing for their own.

Labeling is not just limited to clothing either, but you can label shoes, backpacks, water bottles, and any other items that you send with your child to school or camp to ensure that they do not get lost. They are also ideal for labeling items that your child takes to daycare or a friend’s house.

Labels Are Durable and Customizable

Labels are a great alternative to writing in Sharpie because they do not bleed through the fabric. They are also easy to read and will last even after going through the wash again and again. They are incredibly durable and waterproof. They are also fully customizable so that you can give them a personal touch that’ll make your child feel special. They come in a variety of sizes such as mini rectangle labels, large circle labels, and even extra large labels so you can choose the size that best suits what you will be using it for.

Using labels to label your child’s things also saves time because you can order a bundle at a time. This eliminates the need for labeling every single item by hand, which can be a time-consuming process. It can also ruin certain articles of clothing as well.

Labeling Keeps Your Children Safe

You can also use labels to tell caregivers specific information about specific allergies or to remind them to give your child their medicine. The uses for labels are seemingly limitless, and they are very practical for everyday life.

Labeling Clothing Makes it Easy to Get and Stay Organized

You can create your very own system of how you would like to organize the clothing of your children. For example, you could choose a specific color for each child so that you can recognize who each item belongs to with a glance. This makes sorting laundry a breeze and also saves a significant amount of time.

You Are the Artist

Labels are easier to personalize than you may think. You can change the background, pattern, and colors of your labels. You can also change the font type and size to your liking. If you don’t want to design your own, there are plenty of designs to choose from that have already been designed. You can also have your phone number on your labels.

They Are Easy-to-Use

All you need to do to use your labels is to apply the label to the article of clothing that you want to place it on permanently. Then press firmly so that it fully adheres to the garment. You will want to wait at least 24 hours before you wash the garment. There is no need to iron anything or to do anything complicated. Simply peel the labels and stick. That’s it. You are done. It couldn’t be any easier to label your child’s clothing.

Labels Can Be Something That Kids Will Want to Show Off

Instead of the handwritten name on your child’s clothing that creates embarrassing moments for them, labels will make them feel special and will also be something that other kids will envy. They will all of a sudden be the “cool” kid and will actually want to show off the creative labels on their clothing rather than trying to hide them and be embarrassed by them. Labels can be something unique and fun.

Make Your Computing Experiences Easier For Yourself

May 8, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Make Your Computing Experiences Easier For Yourself

Many of us spend much of our time a day on a computer. It’s not uncommon to have to use one for your career, and even if not, heading home and managing accounts, our schedule, keeping up with old friends, or simply learning something new is usually all conveniently found on the computer nowadays.

But while we’re a long way from dial-up internet and floppy discs, even in 2019 computers can have problems or small inconveniences that can aggravate you or simply stall progress, which is the last thing you want after a heavy workday. Thankfully, there are tools to make your computing experience easier for yourself, tools that can help you feel more comfortable in using them daily. Not only will you be better equipped to manage your normal responsibilities with those tools, but you make be able to branch out and enjoy doing something you never thought possible.

For example, adjusting your settings might help you work from device to device with ease, or perhaps save the notes you need for later. With that in mind, let us consider how you can make the computing experience easier:

Organize Your Files

Indexing your files can be done in most modern operating systems automatically, but even then, it’s important to organize them well. Placing them in named folders and subfolders, dating certain documents, placing only essential documents on your desktop in the form of a shortcut and not the actual file, learning how to cloud backup those files after saving them and also making USB or physical backups can ensure that your files are where you need them, when you need them, how you need them, and all this even in the face of potentially losing them.

Learn Keyboard Shortcuts

You might find that simply interacting with a computer takes its precious time, particularly in certain complex programs. Learning keyboard shortcuts can often help you with this to an extensive degree. For example, learning how to force quit an application without losing your other work can be important. If in a complex and creative program such as Photoshop, learning the keyboard shortcuts for the brush, crop, lasso and color pallette tools (just to scratch the very surface,) can help you save valuable time, and ensure that you’re face to face with your creativity from the get go.

Learning keyboard shortcuts can often work from program to program, but they will all define this differently, so don’t be afraid to get to grips with this and cement that in your head over time.

Learn To Touch Type

Touch typing is where you place your fingers in a balanced and symmetrical line on the keyboard, allowing you to use your fingers in the quickest and most efficient manner when typing words. Not only can this help you use all your fingers, but that will naturally raise your WPM (words per minute,) and you’ll heavily reduce the risk of hand injuries from typing too long. This is a great idea for those who suffer from issues such as carpal tunnel.

With this advice, we hope you can make the computing experience easier for yourself.

Straight Talk – 5 Back-to-School Survival Tips for Managing Busy Schedules

5 Back-to-School Survival Tips for Managing Busy Schedules

“I have partnered with Life of Dad and Straight Talk Wireless for this promotion.”

Straight Talk – 5 Back-to-School Survival Tips for Managing Busy Schedules

It’s Time for some Straight Talk! This summer has been flying by, and before you know it, it will be gone and the kids will be back into the fray of school, sports, and other activities. Does this sound like your own home, I know it does in mine. If your family is like mine, your home becomes crazy busy as we enter the school year and it only continues as the year continues. Preparing your child for a new school year can be overwhelming – from adjusting to a new routine to packing lunches and figuring out how to stay connected with busy schedules. Because of this we have found that being able to stay in touch and having a plan for trying to stay in control of the chaos is so important, otherwise the homes seems to feel like mass bedlam.

I have come up with five things that we have done in our own home that might help yours too. I know that we have found that in making small changes you can make a BIG impact and I hope that you find this to be true as well.

Do not rely on your memory! Even if you are as sharp as a tack, when you start to add in multiple schedules plus the schedules of yourself and significant other, anyone could get confused. Having a way to give you a reminder about what you have coming, whether it be in the form of a calendar, post-it notes or something else will help you and your family to stay on top of things.

Use Technology

  1. Use Technology – Most of us have smart devices and sometimes so do our children. Thus, be where your kids are and use what they are used to using. Technology has come a long way and continues to get better and by using things like Google Calendar , Cozi or something else could help to place everything in a place that can be easy to find when you want to find it. If your child is on a team like my daughters are, one of the best tech team planning tools is a website called TeamSnap. Whoever is managing the team is given a ton of tools to allow them to communicate out effectively and even allows you to let the coach know if you cannot attend, you can share photos, files and more!
    Write It Down
  2. Write it down. There’s nothing better than going old-school though. Having a paper, physical reminder of what is happening when is a great way to keep the family connected. There are calendars now that have multiple lines for each person in the family so you can see what everyone has going on. You can create a time (maybe at dinner) where you have a family meeting to discuss the next day.
    Carpool
  3. Carpools! Who else do you know that has a child that is doing the same activity as your children? Talk to them about assisting in the driving to and from activities. This will allow you some time to get caught up and tackle the honey-do list that usually has something on it!
    Communicate
  4. Communicate. Make sure to talk to your significant other about who is doing what. There have been multiple times when J-Mom and I got our lines crossed and it can just stress out the relationship. Whether this means kids activities, meals, making lunches for the next day or having the paperwork completed for the school field trip, simply make sure that there is a balanced approach and both of you share the load. Also, keep communicating and talking about what is, and what is not working and make adjustments along the way as well.
    Mobile Friendly?
  5. Mobile-Friendly? Be on the same page with your significant other about if and when your child will get their first phone. I have a daughter now that is almost 13 who continues to tell me everyday that ALL of her friends have phone and how unfair it is that she is the ONLY ONE that does not have one. Yes, as parents you get the brunt of pre-teen and teenage ire at times, but you have to stick to your guns and that means having a plan for if and when mobile technology will be allowed and under what rules. Using cell phones to stay connected can be priceless… but an expensive wireless plan is one less item parents need to worry about. Thus, you do have to look at all of your options. I have been looking at wireless plans myself lately and have been impressed by Straight Talk Wireless plans. Straight Talk Wireless is the leading no-contract wireless carrier, offering customers the best phones on the best networks for less. Straight Talk offers nationwide coverage on America’s largest and most dependable networks. You can also choose from the latest phones on the best networks, all for less – including the Samsung Galaxy S8. With Straight Talk, there are no contracts, no credit checks and no mystery fees. With unlimited plans at $45 and $55, you can save on your monthly phone bill and get great deals on the best phones. Also, just in time for school, Straight Talk Wireless has added more high-speed data to its best phone plans. You can now get more high-speed data on Straight Talk’s unlimited plans for the same low price! You can get unlimited talk, text and the first 8GB of high-speed data then 2G* for $45. Or bump it to 12GB of high-speed data then 2G* for $55.

That has all changed with the a new service I recently tried out called Shopswell.

Gladiator GarageWorks Has The Perfect Gift For the NCAA Fan! #dadchat

December 15, 2014 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gladiator® GarageWorks for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am a sports fan! I love getting into the game and following my favorite teams. As a part of this I have some teams that I am more passionate about than others. One of these teams is Michigan State University. Living near East Lansing, it is hard not to be a fan of Michigan State, so I am glad that I am already a fan. Being a fan I want to show my team spirit. In the past this has been limited to apparel or outside adornments to the house, especially on game days. That was until I learned about Gladiator® GarageWorks and their NCAA line of lockers. They have just a start of NCAA teams (15 right now – with more on the horizon), but lucky for me Michigan State was one of them and I was very excited to have an opportunity to receive one of their PrimeTime™ Lockers and see what it would do for my own home.

I waited in anticipation for the locker to arrive. When it arrived the box was HUGE, around six feet in length. Needless to say my whole family drew close to see what could be in such a BIG box (as I had yet to tell them the surprise). As we opened the box and found the locker I found a heavy duty steel locker that was beautifully crafted. I particularly loved the Spartan logo on the outside of this as it truly showed my Spartan spirit.

I did not know where I wanted to try this as I had been wanting to better organize my garage and my basement and this would work in both places, so I experimented in both areas. I tried it in the garage, and it fit well and would have worked great for storage too, however, when I took the locker into the basement, I found that the locker was a perfect fit around the exercise equipment that I have. What do you think? Do you agree with my decision.

I already mentioned how much I loved the Spartan logo on this, but beyond that one of the nice things is the lock on the outside of the locker, as you can then place things and not worry about little hands tampering with them. Also, the lifetime limited warranty was an added bonus for anything that might go on that was not planned.

I found this to be a great centerpiece for the MSU items that I already have in my own home and being a BIG fan I love showing these off. I have already shared this with my friends and they were so envious. A recent survey conducted by Braun Research on behalf of Gladiator GarageWorks shows that more than 75% of fans take steps to show off their team pride. This includes displaying memorabilia and decorating their home or garage. In looking through the other items that Gladiator® GarageWorks have, I am in awe of the garage organization system that they have. Talk about an amazing array of ways to make your garage work well. I have some of these systems already tucked into my all-time ultimate wish list items and maybe someday I will be able to get this too.

PrimeTime Lockers are the perfect gift for the athlete or sports fan in your life! In the midst of the holiday season, Gladiator GarageWorks has a special offer on these new storage systems.

6 Easy DIY Spring Organization Projects

6 Easy DIY Spring Organization Projects

Our home is our oasis from life’s daily demands. Nothing feels better than after coming home after a long day, slip into your pajamas and have a relaxing evening. If your home is full of clutter relaxing at home can be nearly impossible.  This spring start tackling those organizational projects you’ve been putting off.

Below are suggestions and ideas that will help put your home on the right track so your home can be clean and clutter free and you can impress your partner with your newfound organizational talents.

Via

  1. Kitchen Cupboards – Inventory the items in the cupboards. Think about their location in your kitchen and group items that are similar together. Tip: pots/pans and plates are used when cooking so consider moving them closer to the stove. Ask yourself questions like do you need both a steamer and a rice maker? How many sets of dishes do you need?  Donate, sell or throw out any items you no longer need.
  2. Bedroom Furniture – Look around at the size of your bedroom. Having too many items (dressers, tables) can make the room feel small and jam packed  Gain some space by replacing your dresser with a highboy (a tall chest of drawers on legs).  A highboy holds the same number of items but has a smaller footprint. You can pick up storage containers for underneath the bed from your local hardware store. They are great for storing your seasonal clothes, shoes and other items.
  3. Bedroom Closets – The best advice is to clean them out. Go through your clothes and donate any items that no longer fits; you haven’t worn in over a year and dated clothing. After that’s done group your clothing by type: shirts, sweaters, ties, jeans, khakis so you’ll always know what’s in your closet.
  4. Hall Closets – Group linens according to their use: bedroom, bathroom, dining table and identify their location on the shelves (you can also make labels so everyone in the family knows what goes where).  To prevent bed linens from going missing try this trick – tuck the sheets inside one of the pillow cases that way when the beds need to be changed (or when company comes) you have everything you need together. For smaller items like tea towels or face cloths put them in baskets so they don’t go missing or fall off the shelf. Any extra toiletries can be stored in baskets so you’ll always know what you have lots of or what you need to pick up.
  5. Installing Shelving:   Add shelving to your empty wall(s) to display family photos, collectables that can take up valuable table space. If you have a stellar movie collection pick up some inexpensive shelving at your local home repair store and organize and display your prized collection.  Take back the garage and add shelves to store tools, Christmas decorations, rakes, bicycles, etc.
  6. Medicine Cabinet – Would it surprise you that medicine shouldn’t be kept in the bathroom? Most medications need to be kept in a cold dry place. Only place items like your cabinet, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor etc. in your “medicine cabinet.” Store your medication in a lock box if you have young children (that way they can’t touch or accidently take your medication)

Brother P-Touch (@BrotherOffice) Makes Organization a Reality

March 3, 2012 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

How many of you have a room in your house that you wish you could organize? I am not the most organized person but my wife is exactly the opposite and has everything in its place so she definitely helps pull me in the opposite direction at times and I try to do the same for her too when I can.

Though I say that she is organized, she is always looking for new ways to get our home even more organized, especially when it comes to our kids and where they put things. At the same point, I know she would like to have me be much more organized, especially in our new office/craft room that we built in our basement.

I have spoken in the past about the basement project that in 2011 I worked on with a friend, and it ended up turning out better than I could have imagined, though it did take some time to accomplish. We developed an office/craft room as I mentioned and a family/living room area in our basement. The office/craft room was really a necessity with the burgeoning business that I have going with Dad of Divas, LLC and my wife truly enjoys crafts and making cards through Stampin Up and other means.

This was some before and after. You can see how some already have labels and some do not, what a difference!

With this in mind, I was quite happy when I was asked by Mom Central to be a part of a test group of people to try out a new product by Brother, the Brother P-Touch label making machine. Why was I happy, well first it was because my wife was happy, and second, because I could see how this might be able to better organize me and my and my kids’ lives.

So when I received my Brother P-Touch Labeling System, I was pleasantly happy to find that the first, the directions were not too complex and two that you could do so much with the system itself. My wife and I decided to look at our office/craft room form top to bottom to see where we could best use this and we found a number of areas in this room where this could help overall.

First, we decided to use this on my wife’s stamps. She has many stamp sets that she has collected and she found that it would be much easier to have them labeled, then to have to sort through each and every one of them.
Second, we have a number of file cabinets in our office area and we decided to better label the files that we do have so that the files can stand out better for us, no longer can my wife say she can’t read my handwriting!
Third, I have a small cabinet where I keep technological items for my business, including CD’s and such and we decided to label the shelves that they were on so that everything has a place from now on!
Finally, I have a resource library that I use on a regular basis and we decided to better organize this as well and place books into specific niche genres so each shelf now has a label and we alphabetize the books too.

Though I still have to say that I am not the most organized person, through the use of this labeling system, I can say that I am on my way!

I will say that using this labeling system was easy and anyone can use it. There are many features that were great to have and if you have any interest in better organizing a room in your home, or just your entire life in general, this product can definitely help!

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Brother P-Touch and received product and a gift card to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

How To Keep Kids Organized For Back To School

August 10, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

It’s that time of the year again, you finally get settled into a workable summertime routine with the kids and everything changes again. It’s back to school time and that means back to morning chaos, homework disorganization, and dealing with massive amounts of information between school and home. I’ve got some interesting tips that highlight some lesser-known ways for keeping kids organized for school, and I thought you might be able to use in a story you’re planning.
It’s normal for kids to generate chaos and disorganization (it comes with the territory), but being organized is a learned skill that is developed over time. With guidance and practice, kids can develop an effective approach to becoming organized. Amy Morris, single Mom of two teenagers and founder of GotFamilyGetOrganized.com, offers these unique tips to help your kids start the school year with a check plus.
5 Ways To Keep Kids Organized
Hub Of The House – Create a central location to hang a bulletin board that will hold important school and family information. Teach kids to update the calendar upon receiving new information and get in the habit of checking it the night before for the following day’s activities so that they can prepare in advance.
GotFamilyGetOrganized.com – An organized parent sets a good example. This website stores in a unique, simplified, and easy to use format, important family information: school schedules and extracurricular activities, social and sport information, and medical, just to name a few, and it is all available in a central location that can be accessed anytime and anywhere – from any computer, iPad, or smart phone.
Organize Backpacks – A backpack is your child’s personal assistant. Teach them how to keep it neatly organized by only filling them with necessary school day items and keeping out unnecessary loose papers, non-school items and liquids.
Make Lists – Teaching kids to make and prioritize lists will provide them with a greater sense of accomplishment – as they complete items and their lists become smaller, they will feel more productive and they have a greater sense of satisfaction in themselves.  Kids will take ownership for their tasks, shape their own time, and gain greater independence.
Student File Storage – Teach your kids to sort and effectively file school papers in an organized manner.  It will be crucial to them at exam time – especially if midterm and end of year final exams are inclusive of all the material covered to date.
Organization is an awesome opportunity for kids to gain self-confidence and independence and not lose their sanity or you lose yours.

Free Online Tool Assists Parents with Getting Chores Completed

January 13, 2010 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Goalforit (http://www.goalforit.com/) is a free online resource to help people set, manage and achieve their goals. Earlier this week, Goalforit launched several new features such as the Habits & Daily Goals Chart and To-do lists. They’re great ways to help you maintain your focus on setting and achieving goals.

One of the things that I liked (due to the fact that I have younger kids was the Chore Chart. In using this, parents can create custom behavior charts that reward children for doing chores and good behavior. Given the epidemic of childhood obesity; it also makes a great tool for parents that want to create a structured way to make sure their kids are getting more exercise and eating healthier.

How the Chore Chart helps:

  • Teaching a child about goal setting and achieving a goal through a daily habit is an essential skill that will have a positive, long term impact on their performance in the classroom, as well as build a solid foundation for their future.
