New Hallmark Kids Collection Really Motivates! Review & Giveaway

March 26, 2010 by dadofdivas 17 Comments

About the Cards
This collection was developed keeping in mind that everyone needs to be cheered on– kids included. Whether it’s school, sports or trying to make new friends, the children in our lives are on a journey of growth and self-exploration. Few things are more helpful to kids than the support of a parent or grown-up who believes in them and is there with a few heartfelt words of encouragement.

But sometimes, what kids hear “goes in one ear and out the other,” meaning that kids are often missing out on something they really need: encouraging words. In fact, Hallmark research revealed that the moms they surveyed think they are encouraging their children all the time, but in the moments when their kids most needed encouragement, the kids didn’t feel like it was there.

To help grown-ups better connect with and encourage kids, Hallmark recently introduced the all-new Kids Collection, a line of cards and gifts designed specifically to cheer kids on, cheer them up and make them smile. You can check out some of Hallmark’s Kids Collection at www.hallmark.com/kids. There, you’ll see a sampling of the gifts and cards that are available for grown-ups to share with the kids in their lives.

My Take on the Cards
I loved these cards. Not only were they funny, but they truly were on the kids’ level and I know that if I were the recipient of the cards, I would have a smile on my face! I was impressed by the variety of cards available, from basic to cards that can be electronically personalized or that provide you with keepsakes, they all are unique and special and do a great job of cheering and motivating your child to be the best that they can be, no matter what that is.

So if you are looking for a unique way to tell your child how you feel about them, look no further than the new Kids Collection from Hallmark.

Giveaway

How would you like to win these cards for yourself? I will be giving away all 5-6 Hallmark Kids Collection Cards to a lucky reader! All you need to do is let me know why you would have an interest in this product to be considered. The contest will run for one week and will end on April 2, 2010.

Book Review & Giveaway – Achieve Anything In Just One Year

    February 12, 2010 by dadofdivas 18 Comments

    About The Book

This is a self improvement, motivational and personal development book that is designed to be read on a daily basis. One page a day for one year. Each page starts with an inspirational quote, followed by a discussion of that day’s topic, and ends with a task or an assignment for the reader to follow. Achieve Anything in Just One Year equips readers with the tools to:

    • Be truly committed. Don’t just go through the motions – act like you’re making a promise to your company, or to your best friend.
    • Be specific. A resolution like “I want to lose weight” is easier to ignore than “I want to lose five pounds by March.”
    • Set a deadline. A timeframe equals commitment and helps quantify success.
    • Avoid overwhelming yourself. You may want to lose weight, quit smoking, achieve moderation with martinis and cut up your credit cards all at once, but let’s get real. Focus on a limited set of goals and plan on taking stock mid-year.
    • Change one thing at a time. Recognize that change is hard. Wait to achieve one goal before starting on the next.
    • Be realistic. Taking charge of a fitness regimen is a realistic goal, while exercising seven days a week may not be. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment with lofty goals.

The idea is to take daily action that creates a ripple effect in your life.

By transforming your life with small steps, you can stay motivated, focused and balanced. Best of all, you will feel happier about pursuing your personal success.

The key to a happier life is contained in the dreams you already have. Your aspirations can create new opportunities, a fresh direction for your life’s path. It is possible to unlock them. It’s never too late. You have started today by looking at this book.

With his accessible, unique approach using tangible daily steps to reach achievable goals, Jason Harvey can help you succeed by taking small steps to a better you.

Comprehensive and inspiring, Achieve Anything In Just One Year will teach you how to:

    • Set goals and stick with them
    • Take daily action that creates a ripple effect
    • Stay motivated, focused and balanced that
    • Feel happier everyday!!!
    • Define, pursue and celebrate personal success

Learn to equip yourself with the tools to become your own personal life coach, without relying on outside motivation. You have the power to do anything you desire. The possibilities are within you. It’s time to nurture that spark and let it catch fire.

Jason Harvey is a Certified Life Coach and the founder of The Limitless Institute.

    My Take on The Book

This book is set up as a book that you will read and work through over a year-long period with a notebook and pen close at hand.  That means that each day of the year you will read and do the activity listed on the page. The page itself not only has an inspirational quote but also a brief discussion of the day’s topic and an assignment that must be completed.
I did not read through all 365 pages of this book, but I did focus on the first month of the year. What I saw in this forst month was is that would definitely allow me to learn and grow over a year-long period.

I liked the fact that the book was straight forward and did not require a long period of focus. Instead, the book allowed the reader to know exactly what they needed to do. I have read a number of self-help books both personally and professionally and one thing that I liked about this book was that it did not  read like a self-help book. You instead feel like you are being encouraged daily.

If this book sounds like something that you would be interesting to have as a part of your collection, find it over at Amazon!

    Giveaway

How would you like to win a copy of this book? I will be giving away 2 copies to a lucky reader! All you need to do is let me know why you would have an interest in this book to be considered. The contest will run for one week and will end on February 20, 2010.

Book Review & Giveaway – Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teacher Tales: 101 Inspirational Stories from Great Teachers and Appreciative Students

    February 7, 2010 by dadofdivas 30 Comments

    About the Book
Teachers today feel unappreciated, underpaid, and stressed over shrinking budgets, tough children, and mandatory testing, among other things. Turnover rates are climbing. Chicken Soup for the Soul and the best teachers in America have come to the rescue with 101 inspirational stories that will make teachers laugh out loud, shed a few tears, and above all, realize that they really do make a difference and they are very much appreciated. As Anthony Mullen, the 2009 National Teacher of the Year, says in his foreword, “We need this book!”

In an unprecedented move, all 55 of the 2009 State Teachers of the Year have come together in this project, joined by several dozen other teachers and appreciative students, to write the stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teacher Tales (Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishing, LLC, February 2010, 978-1-935096-47-4, $14.95).

“This book is about the heart and soul of teaching and why we have committed our lives to helping children,”
writes Mullen, “This book reminds us why we are teachers and why we love our work.”

Chicken Soup for the Soul’s publisher Amy Newmark is passionate about the value of education and determined to show teachers how important they are to our nation. She approached Mullen about creating a book that would inspire novice and veteran teachers alike. Mullen, a former New York City police detective who now heads up an alternative high school in Greenwich, Connecticut, was very enthusiastic about the project. He wanted his fellow 2009 State Teachers of the Year involved. He saw it as a chance for them to express their passion for teaching and their desire to restore the value of teachers in our society.

“These teachers represent some of the very best teachers in our country,” Mullen says. “These educators
understand what we teach is not as important as whom we teach.”

In addition to the stories from the State Teachers of the Year, Chicken Soup for the Soul selected 46 stories from teachers, and some grateful students, from the thousands of stories that were submitted. These 101 stories truly represent the honor roll of inspirational stories for teachers. Teachers will be amused and touched by the stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul.

    Purpose of the Books
After 15 years of bringing real people and their stories together to touch the lives of others, Chicken Soup for the Soul® has gone beyond the bookstore to become a world leader in life improvement. As J-Mom, my mother, father and many of my other relatives are or have been teachers in the past, this book and the stories within were definitely pertinent. I came to find the stories to be inspirational and ones that any teacher would be engaged by.

I can definitely see how any new teacher or even season teacher would find comfort in the words within this book and would give them the energy and the motivation to keep persevering through the rough times as well as give comfort within the good times.

I definitely recommend this book to all!

January 20, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Allison has been the catalyst to help thousands of individuals reach their potential and attain a fulfilling personal and love life, inspiring career and healthy way of living that they never thought possible.

Allison has done—and continues to do—everything she advocates in this book.

Allison has been committed to supporting her clients’ dreams and helping them realize personal and financial goals, and also cultivate their human spirit and inner peace for their most abundant and prosperous life.
She shares the secrets that brought her and her client’s success in every aspect of life, and then outlines a clear-cut guide to infuse this prosperity in your own career or business, finances, relationships, health, personal fulfillment and spiritual life.

About The Author (From the author herself)
My first exposure to the business world was through my father, who ran one of the largest privately owned women’s clothing chains in the United States in the 1970’s. I used to accompany him as he traveled from store to store studying and absorbing the nuances of his art of business. His entrepreneurial spirit must have rubbed off because I carry his same capacity to manifest and create success. He made it look so easy, so I grew up believing it was. It has been this deep belief that anything is possible, which has been the number one secret to my accomplishments.

With this gift and my years of experience as an entrepreneur, I began to see that my formula for success fit into an incredible framework. From this winning structure that I was duplicating over and over again to manifest the visions in all areas of my life, I created my unique Blast Off! To Success System. I have now incorporated this unique paradigm into 3 dynamic programs that are transforming hundreds of peoples personal and professional lives.

My first business venture, Expressions by Ali, began in college when I was hired by fellow classmates to write personalized poetry for special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, etc. I moved to Atlanta and the demand for these poems grew. I naively thought, “I can make a living at this!” Reality set in when I realized that at $25.00 a poem, I was going to have to be writing and selling furiously day and night to cover the rent. So I decided to mass market them as greeting cards and as fate would have it, I was hired to design thank you cards for MCI nationwide. The business evolved and I began accepting requests to designing brochures and buying media even though I had no background or knowledge in advertising.

My motto was, take the work, surround myself with experts in the field, then figure out how to make it happen. I moved to San Diego, took on a partner and developed a full service Advertising/ Public Relations Firm that handled many national accounts including Charlotte Russe, Supercuts, Charter Hospital and Ben and Jerry’s. During my spare time I also co- opened a beauty salon and a scuba diving shop that still thrive today. After ten years of building these business’, I realized that even though I had gained the monetary and creative rewards, something was missing on a much deeper level in my life.

In my soul quest for a more meaningful direction, I discovered the transformative abilities of the 200- year-old system of medicine called Homeopathy. I sold the agency and salon and decided to go back to school. After becoming a Nationally Certified Professional Homeopath and Licensed Holistic Health Practitioner, I opened my own private practice in Encinitas, California. For the past 14 years, I have consulted with thousands of clients to help them lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. Then, in 1999, I built The Homeopathic Academy of Southern California, a Three Year Homeopathic Training Program in San Diego to create more awareness for the science in this part of the world. HASC is known worldwide as one of the most comprehensive and successful homeopathic school in the United States.

After years of helping people lead healthier and happier lives, my clients began observing my entrepreneurial spirit with all the business ventures I was continuously involved in. They began asking me to guide and support them to develop new paths in their career, help them develop businesses and show them how to bring more fulfillment in their personal lives. This was the birth of Blast Off.

My favorite part of Life and Career Coaching has been enthusing people to follow their dreams while witnessing the dynamic changes that occur when people get out of their own way. What I have learned over the past several years as an entrepreneur is that the fulfillment does not come from money and achievement alone. It is about finding a way to operate from the unity of knowledge, logic, the heart and the soul and learning to draw from the serendipitous guidance of my intuition and my inner voice. This deliberate choice to lead a passion filled life has helped keep my feet on the ground, my mind focused and optimistic, even in the most challenging personal and business scenarios. The financial rewards have been the icing on the cake!

    Personally Speaking
I was a single mom for 12 years. Three years ago, when I finally applied the same powerful principles that I had used to create successful businesses into my love life, I married my true love, my dearest friend and soulmate. Yes I did! I also raised my lovely daughter who now is in college. I continue to run a multitude of successful businesses and lead a very fun and fulfilling life.

My favorite sport is the Flying Trapeze. Yes, just like in the circus! Similar to the real world, Trapeze can be challenging, exciting and at some point, you have to trust and let go! My passions are my family, my three dogs and cat, laughing, building long term working relationships with my clients, and keeping my eyes open to create the newest business venture.

    The Blast Off Vision
Through my years of working with clients and students, I have come to understand how and why human beings create their own personal limits in every aspect of their lives, including: relationships, personal joy, career, health, prosperity and spirituality. I have learned to identify these self-applied roadblocks and teach my clients how to release them; and then gives the tools to become proficient in living abundant, richer and freer lives. My greatest hope is that you have every opportunity to benefit from my Blast Off! system to achieve love and happiness, success and fulfillment in all areas of your life now, today.

    My Take On The Book
I love reading books that are movitvational and get you willing to move forward toward your own success. For me, I have a lot of ideas in my own life, some of them are currently realized, and others are still to be realized. One thing that I particularly liked about the book itself was the practical nature of the book and how the author uses her life experiences to motivate the reader to succeed as well.

The book uses humor to make the reading flow easily and draws the reader in even further to the important content of the book itself.

To be honest I am usually a pretty motivated person, but there have been some things in my own life that I have help back on, and I think this book will definitely give me the motivation to move forward and start achieving the goals that I have for myself!

Don’t take my word alone. Check out Allison’s website and read about the book for yourself and see if it can make a difference in your own life.

Where Can You Find the Book
The launch date for the book is January 19th, 2010 on Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble websites. It will also be available in all other major bookstores! The book costs $24.00, but in looking around I did find that it is available for less over at Amazon.com. If you are trying to find a copy for yourself, look at the below links.

Book Review – Zig Ziglar Embrace the Struggle

November 8, 2009 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

“Life is change,” writes Zig Ziglar. and in his new book, Zig Ziglar and his daughter Julie Norman tell a new type of story for readers of Mr. Ziglar. Instead of his typical high energy motivation that people have come to expect, he provides true inspiration for all to rise up and persevere through the struggles of daily life.

On March 7, 2007, his life changed completely with one, simple, misplaced step. Some would say it changed for the worse, and by human standards they would be entirely right. But to Zig Ziglar, his fall down the stairs and subsequent vertigo and brain injury means “my life is more inspiring.”

After years of speaking and writing about the value of having a positive attitude, Zig Ziglar was forced to take his own advice after this life changing day. As a motivational speaker, Ziglar was challenged to put his words into practice on a personal basis.

As a person who had heard of Zig Ziglar in the past but who had not become a regular reader, I was amazed at the tenacity of this octogenarian. Many people after going thought the challenges that he was going through may have thrown in the towel, and said that enough was enough. Mr. Ziglar instead decided to do what he had always done, step up and try to help others to grow and learn, and this time, much of the material came from experiences that he was living on a daily basis.

Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a battle with addiction or disease, financial troubles, or a physical impairment, Ziglar, along with his friends’ contributed heartening stories of their own ordeals, offer hope to anyone faced with a struggle of their own.

In EMBRACE THE STRUGGLE, Ziglar spreads positive thinking and practices.

    • Life takes care of itself to a very large degree, if you accept life on life’s terms.
    • If we accept that the past is the past, yesterday ended last night, and today is a brand new-day, we can have an attitude of hope. We can look forward to today with an expectation that it will be better than yesterday.
    • Choose the best attitude in tough situations. If we stay riled up and in turmoil, always questioning “why” and visiting the “if” questions, we relive the pain of our emotions again and again. We get mired in the wallowing hole of self-pity or self-doubt, and our attitude becomes laced with fear, regret, and resentment,
    • Be transparent with yourself. Life is to be lived transparently, excitedly, with eager anticipation of the good things that still lie ahead, in spite of our circumstances.
    • When you have your spiritual life in focus, your family like will thrive; and when your family life is good, your mind is freed up to apply yourself to the work God has called you to. When you live life in that order, the struggles, when they come don’t undo your world. There will be no meltdowns when you know who you are and whose you are.

This book is one that truly made me understand the meaning of hope and the meaning of moving on through adversity. As I read this book I was amazed at seeing what one person could do to turn his life around in so many ways and help others to do the same while dealing with his own “baggage.” I encourage anyone to read this and learn  how to regain hope within your own life!

    Ripples

May 12, 2008 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Every week I get a feed from The Ripples Project, a project started by Paul Wesselman who felt that by making a small change you can truly make a larger one that effect many people. This week one of the quotes that were shared I felt was kind of an interesting one.

    Now is Now.
    And Now.
    And Now.

And it’ll be now later on too.
Now is sort of a continual gray area of time,
    sandwiched between then and yet.

    Now is quite plentiful really,
so it’s not like you need to worry and stress
    to take advantage of now.

But if you don’t take advantage of now,
    it becomes then.
The trick is to see yet as it approaches,
take advantage of yet as it becomes now
and turn now into a then
when you arrive at a new now.

But by far, the best now of all is now.

    -Kyle MacDonald

So my question: How do you all take advantage of now?

For me, I try my best to stay in the moment and enjoy the time that I have, but I find this isn’t always easy. I tend to plan, thinking ahead for things to come so staying “in the moment” is not always an easy thing to do. Yet, as I read this, I am reminded of the importance of being “in the moment” and how these “now” moments will only be here fleetingly…so I guess I do need to pay closer attention to these in the future…
