High Flying Action at AirTime Trampoline Park & An Ultimate Way To Enjoy The Summer!

High Flying Action at AirTime Trampoline Park & An Ultimate Way To Enjoy The Summer! photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Just recently I had the opportunity to visit the brand new AirTime Trampoline & Game Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan with my kids. My kids are always trying to jump, flip and do whatever we can, and while we have some trampoline parks near where we live they pale in comparison to this park!

High Flying Action at AirTime Trampoline Park & An Ultimate Way To Enjoy The Summer!

AirTime Trampoline & Game Parks have locations in Troy, Sterling Heights, Westland, Novi, and now in Grand Rapids, with a new park coming soon to Ann Arbor, Michigan. AirTime Trampoline & Game Park is a high-energy trampoline and music experience unlike any other. At the AirTime Trampoline & Game Park from the moment you walk in you can hear the difference as their slogan is Engineered for Fun. Powered by Music. I mean, imagine getting your bounce on surrounded by wall to wall trampolines with the speakers pumping out your favorite songs. That is AirTime Trampoline & Game Park.

High Flying Action at AirTime Trampoline Park & An Ultimate Way To Enjoy The Summer!

I am not joking about this, when we walked in the park, the music by jumping and in talking to the General Manager Jacob, he stated that having music like this really encourages kids to be kids and to have fun and in looking around I could see that this worked! There was even a live DJ and the general manager said that this happened a few times a week.

The Grand Rapids AirTime Trampoline & Game Park was huge. Filled with areas for open jumping, dodgeball, basketball, ninja course, climbing wall and more, there is a little bit of everything at this great park.

High Flying Action at AirTime Trampoline Park & An Ultimate Way To Enjoy The Summer!

My kids had a blast in our time there. If it were up to them we would have stayed all day. That is one point that I want to make about the AirTime Trampoline & Game Park. For only $15 you can get an all day pass. Yes, I said an all day pass. Around us, the trampoline parks can cost $15 or more per hour. The AirTime Trampoline & Game Park also offers some special deals too. During the week they offer some special deals for families (with or without food) and there is special time for small kids on the weekends where they can come without concerns of big kids being around.

Also, AirTime Trampoline & Game Park is giving kids another big reason to jump for joy as school lets out – a new Summer Pass that offers four months of unlimited jumping for one low price!

Michigan’s Adventure – A Thrill For The Whole Family

Michigans Adventure

Michigan’s Adventure – A Thrill For The Whole Family

Living in Michigan there is a ton to see and do but sometimes with kids you need to get your thrill on and Michigan’s Adventure and WildWater Adventure gives you just that opportunity!

Michigans Adventure

Living just outside of Lansing, Michigan, the nice thing about Michigan’s Adventure is that it is only a little more than two hours away from us, so being able to get up in the morning and then heading over without getting up too early is still possible. We visited Michigan’s Adventure this year on a Saturday and the hours were from 11AM to 10PM. Seeing that they opened a little later in the morning we had some time which allowed the kids to sleep longer than usual. We got on the road and it was a very easy ride, for us all on highways. Once we got to the park, we found that there actually were quite a few people already there even though it was only 11AM (which was surprising).

Michigans Adventure

Michigan’s Adventure does offer a few options as it comes to admissions. There are options for regular admissions, but also ones that will offer you a “fast pass” to get to the front of some of the popular rides. With prices starting at $33.00 this is very reasonable for all that you get. The fast pass starts at $68 per person, but I will tell you for the day that we visited there were definitely times when a fast pass would have been handy as we did have to wait and there were some lines we simply chose not to stand in as they were longer.

Michigans Adventure

The park itself was fun as there were rides for all ages and with the mix of amusement rides and water park rides you can really break up the day. We ended up trying to use the first half of the day, when it was cooler, to do the amusement park and then transitioned to the water park. This worked out well for our family and while we could have spent numerous more hours in the park we definitely felt that we got our time out of the park. We also found that by mid-afternoon many of the lines on the rides had gone down tremendously, much of which was because they had transitioned over to WildWater Adventure.

Michigans Adventure

There were some new things in the past since the last time we were here. On of the things that my youngest daughter loved was the new Funland Farm where you can get up close and personal with some very cool animals. She loved being able to pet a Llama and a deer among other animals too! On top of this there were some other great new things and I found that looking at this list of 100 reasons to visit this great park!

Michigans Adventure

We had a blast at the park and really jumped into the roller coasters. We loved the Cork Screw but also found that with rides like Shivering Timbers, Thunderhawk, and Wolverine Wildcat you can definitely get your thrill on and you will be coming back for more and more, or at least we were!

Michigans AdventureThere were smaller roller coasters too like Zach’s Zoomer which was also a family favorite. As you can see Michigan’s Adventure is truly a place where you can have a family vacation if you so choose. To be honest we would be considering a family season pass if we lived closer!

Michigans Adventure

I would be remiss to not talk about WildWater Adventure – This is Michigan Adventure’s incredible water park, which features thrills and fun activities for all including Beach Party, Boogie Beach, Cabana Rentals, and more!

My kids loved all of the waterslides and it was like pulling teeth getting them out of the wave pool. The nice thing was that WildWater Adventure is spread out so that you don’t have to feel that you are on top of many other people. With three wave pools, if one is full of people you can go to another and find that there is much more room for you and your family.

We had an amazing day and we are already talking about whether we could fit in another visit again this summer. If you have never visited Michigan’s Adventure in the past, you should definitely make a visit. You and your family will not be disappointed, I know my family wasn’t!

SEA LIFE Michigan ocean tank fill event #SeaLifeMI

October 27, 2014 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Sea-Life-Michigan

SEA LIFE Michigan, the 35,000-square-foot aquarium set to open in Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in early 2015, has reached a major construction milestone: filling the attraction’s 120,000 gallon ocean tank with water!

The filling of the ocean tank is a key landmark in our construction process and brings us another step closer to welcoming our array of awe-inspiring creatures. Our artists have worked tirelessly to create an exciting themed environment in the tank, including rock and coral formations, and a sculpture of Neptune’s head. All of this comes together to create a dazzling experience for our visitors that is unique to our location.

Sea-Life-Michigan

To celebrate the water fill milestone, SEA LIFE Michigan hosted a brief ceremony on Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. featuring SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium Kid Reporter Nina Groll and other local children.

Sea-Life-Michigan

SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium will house more than 5,000 amazing creatures, including sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, sea horses, a giant Pacific octopus and much more. Guests will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get nose-to-nose with the creatures in the aquarium’s unique 180-degree ocean tunnel, interactive touch pools and engaging, educational exhibits that focus on conservation and inspiring guests to take an active role in protecting the world’s oceans and sea creatures.

Advance tickets will be on sale on the SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium website beginning in November. Check http://www.visitsealife.com/michigan/ for more updates.

History Comes Alive on Mackinac Island #dadchat

July 30, 2014 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Arnold-Ferry
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Over our vacation this past week we decided to take our kids for their first trip to Mackinac Island. If you have never been to this island, it is the only place in Michigan that has held back from allowing motorized vehicles on the island. To get to the Island, you have to take a ferry or fly onto the island. There are three ferry companies that can bring you to the island. Each is a bit different, and we chose to use the Arnold Mackinac Island Ferry, the original ferry company that runs to the island. This company has been in existence in some fashion since 1878, talk about a long history. The ride itself took us about 45 minutes to get to the island and it was a comfortable ride. You can sit either on the inside or outside. We chose to sit on the inside as it was chilly, especially in the morning, though we did go outside a few times to get some of the pictures that you see here. It was so much fun seeing the island getting larger and larger as you got closer and closer to the island itself. You can gauge your passage toward the island while you are watching the Grand Hotel, the most identifiable building on the island, getting closer and closer. For me, one of the other things that I love watching for is the Round Island Lighthouse, as this is one of my favorite lighthouses in Michigan.

Arnold-Ferry

When you get off of the ferry you exit right onto Main Street and close to Fort Mackinac. You start to see the history in action with horse and carriage taking everything from people to hotels, to trash off the island. We ended up deciding to go first to Fort Mackinac. Fort Mackinac is a Fort that has a long history on the island. The Fort first came to the island in 1779. While the fort first was controlled by the British, the Americans took control of the fort in 1796, but the British came back in 1812. The Americans did not take control of the fort again until 1815 and it remained staffed with a garrison of troops until 1895 when it was turned over to the State of Michigan and it was turned into a State Park to maintain the History of our State. Over the years people did visit the fort and learn much about the history of the fort and our State, but in 1958 a large scale restoration commenced.

Fort-Mackinac

Today, visitors can get a great sense of what soldiers would have had to deal with while garrisoned at the Fort. You can tell that there was definitely hardships for many years and in reading about the fort and the soldiers, you also learn that for some time there were problems with sickness and disease too. You also see some of the more modern conveniences that were added to the fort over the years such as a bath house and modern toilets. At the same time you get to see soldiers re-enacting some of the day-to-day activities that soldiers would have experienced. At different points during the day you can see a cannon and muskets being fired. I was surprised to see that the muskets were MUCH louder than the cannon itself.

Fort-Mackinac

My whole family learned so much as we went from building to building and as we interacted with staff itself. They loved being able to get up close and personal with the muskets and seeing the bugler playing a few of the daily calls that soldiers would have heard. The Fort is also so well situated on the bluff over the city. You can see everything from the fort, which makes the Fort well situated to guard against attack, at least from that side of the island. There also were a number of other great historical businesses, churches and more that you can explore with your entrance fee. So much history is found on the island, and you and your whole family will learn so much about Michigan History that by the end of the day you will be on your way to becoming a Michigan History expert, which was perfect for my oldest daughter who will be going into 4th grade and I know that this will be the year that they will be having a large unit on Michigan History and I just gave her a jump-start!

Fort-Mackinac
When we left the Fort, we decided to walk down the main drag out of town toward Mission Point. When we got to Mission Point we stopped at the Mission Point resort and met with the Manager of the resort Bradley McCallum to learn more about the resort. Let me tell you, I am in awe at the history this resort has, as I had no clue walking into it prior to this. The initial people who started Mission Point were Missionaries back in the early 1820’s. These early missionaries were there to try and teach the ways of the church to the indigenous people of the island. The missionaries stayed for many years, creating the Mission Church and Mission House which still stand today. After the missionaries left and after some years the facility was changed and it became a part of the The Moral Re-Armament effort with Dr. Frank Buchman at the helm.

This organization became an international company/effort and they used the retreat on Mackinac Island to push forward their beliefs and views. They expanded the site to have a theatre and sound recording studio (the studio was used in the creation of some of the sets and recording of the movie Somewhere in Time) as well as the main lodge. I came to learn that the wood and beams as well as rock that you see in the main lodge were all Michigan based. I have to say that this impressed me, as it definitely showed Dr. Frank Buchman’s commitment to Michigan and to supporting the Michigan economy.

Mission-Point-Resort

After Dr. Frank Buchman’s death the retreat ended up going through a few iterations including two different colleges before going into a bit of disrepair and then getting purchased by the company who owns it today. You can read more about the history of the resort here: http://www.missionpoint.com/the_resort/history/

Today, you still have much of the history preserved at the resort itself. You can walk through the theatre, climb the tower for amazing views. Walk through the beautifully landscaped gardens or simply sit out on the front lawn in an Adirondack chair watching the sun or birds flying overhead, or bikes going by.

Mission-Point-Resort

The resort has a ton of amenities, including a pool, workout facility, theatre that offers both movies and live theatre productions, bike rentals, a putting golf course (something like mini golf, but an 18 hole putting green course), three very different restaurants and much more.

We ended up eating lunch at the Round Island Bar and Grill and all of us were quite happy with our food. From our conversation with Bradley, this restaurant was the most family friendly and we ended up choosing to eat here because of this. I ended up trying the Round Island Burger which was juicy and delicious and the onion remoulade that was on it was delicious and added just enough flavor to it too. We also tried a few of their desserts and we can definitely vouch for the Cherry Pie and the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae as both were decadent and delicious.

Mackinac-Bikes

After lunch we rented bikes to be able to tour the island. What is perfect about this island is that there are so many places where you can rent bikes. We ended up picking them up right from the resort which was perfect. They had a wide variety of bikes to choose from and even tandem and ride behinds fr young children. We ended up getting four bikes, one for each of us and we were off on our eight mile trek. While we did not know whether Diva-PJ would make it the entire way, we took our time, making stops where needed and we did make it around the island. We did not make it to the interior of the island, as Diva-PJ’s legs would not make it that far, but we did get to do quite a bit. We now have even more reason to come back in the future!

Mackinac-Island

By the end of the day, we wanted to do a bit of shopping and the kids found some souvenirs for themselves. We also had to splurge and purchase some of the fudge that the island was known for. What was hard was that there are at least four companies to choose from when it comes to fudge, so you have to pick and choose. We did get some and now we can say that we will be in a sugar-induced coma for a while to come. We were definitely tired by the end of the day, and in returning to Mackinaw City, we were ready to head home, but we did drive over quickly to get a closer look at the Mackinaw Bridge before leaving for the day.

Mackinac-BikesMackinac-Bikes

All-in-all this was a great day that we will not soon forget. We had a blast and cannot wait until we have the chance to go back and explore even more in the future!

Tom's-of-Maine

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

It is summer and that means it’s time to get outside. This is definitely my mantra when the summer months come around in Michigan. The challenge would being outside, playing with kids, etc. is that this also means that you’re going to have to deal with sweat and everything that that brings along with i which means that long-lasting deodorant is a must.

 photo running-Edit_zps5c2579eb.jpg

Outside of just being outside, more recently I started exercising again. As anyone that has gotten on a workout schedule know sometimes you fall of the wagon, this is what happened to me in the past. The summer though, I purposely set aside some goals to get back in shape and to get back on a routine of working out daily (or close to daily). Over the last 3 weeks I have really been keeping to my schedule, and because I am doing more strenuous workouts, that means, just like in doing outside activities, I am sweating a lot.

Tom's-of-Maine

With all the sweating, I need to know that I have a long-lasting deodorant that works completely and gives me the protection that I know that I need. The one thing that usually stops me from using some companies is that they don’t offer a straight out deodorant, but instead a plethora of antiperspirant, which is a product that I cannot use due to allergic reactions. The other thing that I look for is a company that is open and honest about what they are using in their product and that they use natural ingredients, which is not always the case with other companies. In my years of using deodorant, I have come to find that Tom’s of Maine is a company that not only meets both of these requirements, but they go beyond this and really go to the next level for the customer. They also give back to the community as a corporation and are green. All of these things and more have really made me a person that loves this company and what they provide.

Tom's-of-Maine

Unfortunately for me there is no Tom’s of Maine products that close to where I live so whenever I need to pick some more up I use Amazon’s new program (their pantry) to get this and other supplies. The last time that I ordered I ordered the Men’s Deodorant. I loved the experience and found that it was easy enough to use and as you can see above, there even was a coupon that I could clip for this! The box that this comes in can fit a ton of stuff, so watch your percentages so you get the most out of the flat rate $5.99 shipping!

 photo running1_zps938b75fc.jpg

In regards to Tom’s deodorant in general, I will be one to say that it really provides great long-lasting coverage. No matter if I just ran a 5K, mowed the grass, or am simply in the office I know that I am covered! The company also has a long history or providing great products and results. I had no idea that they had been in business since 1970 until I did a bit more research recently, but now it makes sense, as they are doing it right and giving me and others exactly what we need when it comes to providing the long-lasting deodorant coverage that I and others need, especially in the summer months.

Being from Michigan I can say that I love my State and for the most of my life have lived within its’ borders. Growing up on the east side of the State I never really spent much time on the West side of the State, but since I have gotten older I have definitely spent more time exploring all of the State. This past weekend my wife and I celebrated our 15th anniversary by exploring my State’s second largest city, Grand Rapids thanks to the great people at Experience Grand Rapids.   I currently live about an hour and a half from Grand Rapids and the drive is an easy one. In exploring the Experience Grand Rapids site before coming to the city I have to say that I was very impressed with the wide array of things to do in this city. Not only are there more restaurants than you can know what to do with, but the city is strewn with museums, artwork and more.

We stayed at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, an extravagant hotel in downtown, and we were placed on the Pantalind side of the hotel. This is the older side of the hotel which used to be the old Pantalind Hotel which opened originally in the early 1900’s. There is also a much more modern glass tower side of the hotel which is on the river too, but we loved our room with its’ old style charm. The hotel has a ton of restaurants within it including Cygnus (at the top of the glass tower – talk about great views), Ruth Chris Steak House, Benthams Restaurant and more! We loved how centrally located this hotel was to all of downtown!

The first night we were in town we decided to go to dinner at an amazing restaurant called San Chez, which is a Tapas Bistro in downtown Grand Rapids. We ended up meeting some friends from the area there for food that was out of this world and Sangria that was to die for. The great thing about this restaurant is that there is so much on the menu that you can choose from and then share with one another. The restaurant not only provides you with flavor that will bring you back for more but also encourages you to share so much more than food and simply talk and have a great time.

After dinner we went to a building called The B.O.B (Big Old Building) which has a ton of restaurants/Bars within it, but also has a comedy club called Dr. Grins Comedy Club. I have not been to a comedy club for a long time, but this looked like fun and the headliner Lachlan Patterson sounded good as well! I have to say that for the three acts that we saw, two of the three were great and Lachlan was definitely worth the wait! We had a great time and I would definitely come back again for not only the great comedy, but also the great wait staff as well.

On Saturday morning I ventured out into the town looking for breakfast. I decided to job around the town and see what I could see, as well as find what was open. I was surprised to see how alive the downtown area was and then found that there was a bike race in town that morning. I felt completely safe in the downtown area and ran across a number of restaurants that were open at the time. I also found some great artwork around the city as well, both installed on property and painted on the side of buildings. This made a lot of sense, especially knowing that this city is the home of ArtPrize, a art competition that I would love to come back to see in the future! I ended up just stopping to get something small from Biggby Coffee so that we could get started for the day.

Our first stop of the day was the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum. This President grew up in Grand Rapids and the Museum was right across the river from where we stayed. This museum was so interesting! This was the President that my wife and I were born into and I have to say that we both learned so much about the short Presidency of this man and what he did to heal a nation after the scandal of the Nixon Presidency. We spent quite a bit of time in this museum and even visited both his and Betty Ford’s grave.

From there we went to the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM). Again, this museum was only a block away from the hotel and I had heard great things about it. What I loved about the museum was that it had a bit of everything all in one place. My favorite floor was probably the third as it held artwork from Picasso to more Michigan-based artists and art that ranged in age from the 1500’s to present. They even had a few pieces that were recognized from previous ArtPrize competitions including the one below that just blew my mind. You may not be able to tell, but this is not a photograph, but instead was a pencil drawing – it was simply stunning!

Saturday night we went to Hopcat, one of the restaurant/micro breweries in town. I recently learned about the fact that Grand Rapids was recently named one of the top Beer Cities in the United States (who would have known). In the down Grand Rapids area, Hopcat along with a number of other micro breweries have started up and are providing customers with amazing blends of beer. At Hopcat, they had 64 beers on tap – yes I said 64, talk about crazy! The food at Hopcat was great – you have to try the Crack Fries and the atmosphere was loud and fun!

Sunday was our short day as we had to check out by 11 and had to pick up our girls as well. We had found a pizza place named Georgios Gourmet Pizza on Friday and decided to come back for brunch seeing that it had a remarkable number of different pizzas (including a Mac ‘n Cheese pizze, a Salad Pizza, Taco Pizza and more). The pizza was definitely worth the wait as it was one of the best tasting pizzas that I have tried in the past. On top of this the crust was just right which not every pizza place can claim. What was even better though was that we found out that there are two other franchise restaurants near where we live outside of Lansing, so guess where we will be going in the near future.

We just scratched the surface of this city on this trip, but rest assured we will be back. This is an amazing city with so much to offer everyone (not just adults). If you are looking for a great city that has things for all ages, food to make your mouth water, art that will dazzle and natural beauty that is awe-inspiring, Grand Rapids is the place to visit!

My Family’s Day Out With Thomas on the Huckleberry Railroad at Crossroads Village

August 26, 2012 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

We had an amazing time last weekend at the Day Out with Thomas Event on the Huckleberry Railroad at Crossroads Village. I had never been to the Village before even though I grew up close to it, and I think I was as excited as the girls were to experience and see what it was all about.

The Village itself is a step back in time, where you get to see things the way they were. You can see a Mill making flour, a cider press working its magic, artisans making beautiful items in leather, tin and other goods, and so much more. On top of all of this the girls got to see Thomas the Train which was an exciting treat for them!

We were able to ride Thomas the Train, listened to story telling, went to a Bob the Builder Show, Shook hands with Sir Topham Hat, jumped in a bounce house, and simply had a great day together.

I was impressed with the ride on the Huckleberry Railroad as it was so much fun and comfortable as well. The ride itself was about 40 minutes long and you get to see and experience quite a bit in the 40 minutes. The kids loved the ride and I have to say that I did as well.

One of the exciting things was Diva-J was selected to be a part of a Magic Show that was occurring in the Village!

We had so many great memories from the day. Here are some additional photos from our day.
