February 21, 2010 by dadofdivas 89 Comments

The Manthem commercial follows the journey from birth to fatherhood celebrating the moments when a man is comfortable with himself.

Dove Men + Care celebrates one particular man’s moment of total comfort, featuring Drew Brees from the New Orleans Saints celebrating the arrival of total comfort as he achieves his life-long dream. Did you see Drew holding his baby immediately after winning the game? He himself embodies the Dove man who’s comfortable in his own skin.

My Take On The Products
I was very happy to have the opportunity to try out Dove’s new products for men. Dove Men+Care products are formulated specifically for men like me who spend our days focusing on on others. Instead, these products allow men to indulge in themselves for at least a short amount of time, and instead we can leave behind the tiaras, hotwheels and other such toys that we find ourselves engrossed in much of the other times in our lives with kids.

I was impressed by the scent of the products and how thoroughly the products cleansed and refreshed myself after using them. The products produce a great lather and the scent, while not too strong, stayed with me for some period of time which was adequate for me.

Overall, these are products that I would recommend to any man or woman looking to get something unique for a man.

Giveaway

How would you like to win a some Mens+ Care products for yourself? I will be giving away 1 complete set to a lucky reader! All you need to do is let me know why you would have an interest in these products to be considered. The contest will run for one week and will end on March 1, 2010.

Mary Kay Products – Not Only for Women

    February 10, 2010 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

Ok, I know a number of people who sell Mary Kay Products and they have continued to tell me that they do have a men’s product line. One of our friends gave me a tester sample of their Men’s cologne, High Intensity and I tried it out today. I have to say that I am impressed. It is not overpowering and smells nice, or as J-Mom says, it smells manly.

I have not tried the other men’s products, but I have found that there is both fragrances and skin care for men. You can see more info on these and other products at: http://www.marykay.com/agenske/default.aspx

J-Mom has tried a number of the Mary Kay products and she loves them all (She can exfoliate her lips with the best of them – and they do make them soft!).

J-Mom has been working with this agent for some time and I have to say that she would not ask for a better person to work with. So if you are looking to try out some of Mary Kay’s products for yourself, I would encourage you to get in touch with Amy. She will take care of you with no questions asked!

One of the things that I truly like about this company is the history behind it. It is a story of perseverance and passion. If you have not heard about it, let me share a short glimpse:

After 25 years in the direct selling business, Mary Kay Ash resigned her position as a national training director when yet another man she had trained was promoted above her – at twice her salary. Her response was visionary. At first, she started writing a book that would help women gain the opportunities she had been denied. But soon she realized she was creating a plan that would do much more than give advice. It formed the foundation for a new opportunity where women could develop their talents and achieve unlimited success.

So, in 1963, with her past experience, her plan and $5,000 in savings, Mary Kay Ash enlisted the help of her 20-year-old son, Richard, and created Beauty by Mary Kay. It was a first – a company dedicated to making life more beautiful for women. It was founded, not on the competitive rule, but on the Golden Rule, on praising people to success and on the principle of placing God first, family second and career third. It was a company – as Mary Kay Ash often said – “with heart.”
Today her vision, her courage and her unwavering spirit continue to bring women the opportunity to achieve their potential and bring their dreams to life. With 1.8 million Independent Beauty Consultants in more than 35 markets worldwide, Mary Kay Inc. and The Mary Kay Foundation carry on the legacy of Mary Kay Ash – inspiring, enriching and empowering women to believe that they can do great things. You can learn more about this remarkable woman by visiting the Mary Kay Tribute Web site and the Mary Kay Books Web site.

So again, f you are looking to try out some of Mary Kay’s products for yourself, I would encourage you to get in touch with Amy. She will take care of you with no questions asked!

40 Gut-Busting Restaurant Challenges for Free Food

    January 12, 2010 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Most guys are drawn to food. Call it nature or nurture, I am not for certain why this is, but it is. I am always facinated by the eating contests that are out there and the people that engage in them.

In reference to this Coupon Sherpa did a great article at 40 restaurant challenges that are out there.

    A few examples include:

    Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub
    Location: Clearfield, Pennsylvania
Food Challenge: If you have two people and three hours, take on the Beer Barrel Belly Buster. The 15-pound burger includes a 20-inch patty, 17-inch bun, two onions, a head of lettuce, 25 slices of cheese, three tomatoes, mayo, mustard, relish and ketchup. Finish the challenge in three hours and it’s completely free! Fail and it’ll cost you $49.95.

    Jack ‘n Grill
    Location: Denver, Colorado
Food Challenge: As seen on the Travel Channel’s popular “Man vs Food” show, the famous Jack-n-Grill seven-pound burrito eats more like a casserole than a burrito. Women who complete the challenge receive free food for life at Jack ‘n Grill. Only three women have ever finished the challenge and word on the street is they never returned for more.

    Fat Sandwich Company
    Location: Champaign, Illinois
Food Challenge: Eat a Big, Fat and Ugly in under 15 minutes and it’s free. The challenge includes two rolls, four cheeseburgers, double cheesesteak, chicken cheesesteak, gyro meat, grilled chicken, bacon sausage, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, mac-n-cheese bites, fried mushrooms, jalapeno poppers, pizza bites, onion rings, hash browns, mini corn dogs, American cheese, mayo ketchup poppers and pizza bites.

If you have an interest in filling your belly and trying to being the Ziggy Piggy (anyone remember John Candy in the Great Outdoors) or in seeing someone else in attempting to set a new record, check out the following!

Book & DVD Review – The Good Men Project

December 5, 2009 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Recently I was asked to review the book and DVD – The Good Men Project. This project consists of a myriad of essays from men in relationship to topics that we all deal with on a daily basis:

    • Being a father
    • Being a son
    • Being a husband
    • Being a worker

I was excited and thankful for being asked to review this as it had a lot to do with what I write about and the topics that quite a few of my readers enjoy as well.

When I received the book itselfand started to read the essays/stories of the contributors, I was amazed at some of the things that these men went through in both growing up and struggling with what it means to be a man. I can relate to some of the issues, but I also found myself shaking my head in wonder at some of the stories and saying to myself, I can’t believe that they had to deal with this.

The writers were very forthright and open with their stories. The frankness is something that I have not seen in other such non-fiction accounts. As a man, many of the topics and issues that are raised are, as many of the writers reflect, taboo, or issues that should not be raised with other men. That is the amazing thing about this project and this book and DVD, it blows open the veil of secrecy that surrounds the persona, and at times myth, of what it means to be a man in society today.

The DVD also provided the viewer with a similar glance into the lives of those men documented. There was some profanity used, so I wouldn’t suggest it for the very young. I would say though that the topics covered in both the DVD and book are ones that teenage young men would and should learn and talk about with their friends or better yet their fathers.

I would recommend both the DVD and book for all men out there. The stories are short and engaging and you will find yourself identifying with some of the issues that some of the men raise, and there will be others that you will not as well, but all are important to reflect on and talk about, as it opens a discourse into what being a man is all about.

If this is the first time you have heard about this project, I encourage you to visit the project’s website to learn more. When you finish looking at the website, take a look at the project’s Facebook page and at the co-founder’s Twitter page.

New TNT Show – Men of a Certain Age

    December 3, 2009 by dadofdivas 5 Comments

    Men Of A Certain Age

    Men Of A Certain Age

John Lennon once wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” For three men entering the second act of their lives, those words are starting to hit home in TNT’s newest original series, Men of a Certain Age.

The show follows three longtime friends – played by Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond) Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street) – as they navigate the changes and challenges of mid-life.

I was given the opportunity to take a sneak peak at this show, and it does look at a myriad of issues that effect aging adult men in today’s society. With the line up (especially with Ray Romano being one of the writers) I expected comedy, but to be honest, though there were some snippets of humor, the show tackles some tough topics that all aging men have to deal with in their lives. TNT has put together a great cast which seems to work well together (at least in the preview that I observed). It is hard to say where the show will lead, but I can say that I will definitely check it out on December 7 at 10PM EST to learn more.

If this show sounds interesting to you check out the trailer!

The featured product in this post was provided to me free of charge by the producer. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by the company. Please refer to this site’s Terms of Use for more information.

The Manival #10: Independence Day Edition

July 1, 2008 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

The Art of Manliness is sponsoring this week’s Manival and there are some great submissions this week (including my own!). I encourage all of you to read some of the great blogs that are out there and encourage other dads and men to do so as well!

    Relationships

Womopo presents 3 Highly Effective Ways To Meet More Women. If you’re a single guy looking for love, Womopo suggests several places where you can meet the kind of woman you’d want to settle down with.

A Good Husband asks What Does Religion Mean to Your Marriage? Cory recently did a survey about religion’s place in people’s marriages. There were some interesting results.

iamhusband asks and discusses Why Doesn’t She Want Sex Like I Do? According to iamhusband, men need sex to feel loved and women need love to have sex. While it seems like a setup destined for frustration, this post suggests ways men can be better husbands and show selfless love for their wives.

The Simple Marriage Project takes on the issue that has plagued many a married man: the wandering eye. In Man Up: It’s Just Window Shopping, Right? Corey argues that “window shopping” isn’t as harmless as men think it is to a relationship.

Hayden Tompkins discusses Why She Loves Dating an Older Man. Hayden is the author of Persistent Illusion and one of Art of Manliness’ favorite female readers. Hayden discusses why she enjoyed dating and marrying her husband, an older man. Hayden’s husband sounds like quite a guy.

    Fatherhood

Jeremy at Discovering dad asked several dad bloggers what they think about honest communication. The post originated from a question that a mom blogger had. Great discussion on having better and more open communication between you and your spouse.

Harrowed Parent talks about how he’s implementing Father-Son Bonding Time. The take away: start early and make time for it.

Dad of Divas presents A Father as a Beacon to his children. This is a really great post. He makes a great analogy of fathers as lighthouses for their children. Like lighthouses, fathers should put out a beacon of light so their children know how to stay out of harm’s way.

Totally Consumed presents On Being a Stand-Up Guy: For Dad. This man’s father is an example to all men on what it means to be a good husband. It means giving and expecting the best from those around you.

Daddy Brain presents Equal Rights for Kids, Part 1: Let Your Kids Decide. Helping your kids make decisions on their own is important, but remember, you’re the parent. Don’t let them run the house.

Being Michael’s Daddy presents Traditions, a humorous look at one man’s goal at creating family traditions with his son.

John Stewart discusses careless and stupid parents. Being a good father means not doing things that will harm your children. I am amazed by the guy who put his toddler in a plastic bag. What an imbecile.

    Sports, Health, and Recreation

Fat Man Unleashed presents The Best Foods For Men. A nice post that summarizes Men’s Health Magazine’s list of 125 best foods for men.

James Hills presents Mancation Story: Annual Buffalo Bills Away Game and breaks down a mancation that one group of men took. It’s cool reading how they planned and carried out their man trip.

Primer Magazine presents Hero Training: Evacuating the Wounded. Are you ready to carry out a wounded person? This article shows some techniques on carrying a wounded person.

    Manning Up

Return to Manliness presents Manliness Trait: Try To Be Interesting, But ALWAYS Be Interested. Dale Carnegie said the best way to be charming is be interested in other people. Put the focus on them and you’re sure to shine.

Stormbringer’s Thunder discusses the man hating that seems to be prevalent in society in Man Bad, Woman Good. Great points on the bad arguments some feminists make about men and the lousy portrayal men get in the media.

Alessandro presents Sprezzatura and gentlemanliness. He gives a nice review of a book called The Complete Gentleman: The Modern Man’s Guide to Chivalry. Looks like a good book. Have to put it on my “to read” list.

Paul Cat presents Is chivalry dead? This post takes on some of the arguments that chivalry is dead (or should be). Interesting responses. Personally I think men should still practice chivalry. Most women I know agree.

    Fashion

Dr. Awesome presents Crocs and Clogs. No man should be caught dead in crocs or clogs. Crocodile skin boots are okay, though.

If you’d like to submit to next week’s Manival, please use this form.
