Waffle Cones in The Summer = Family Fun
I am the type of person that loves technology, but also loves a product that can bring the family together. If you have been reading my blog, you will know that by now, and if this is your first time here, you will soon see as well. Recently I was approached by Chefs choice about their products being great for fathers day gifts. Not having used their products in the past, I was intrigued to learn more. In looking through their products I noticed that they had a waffle cone maker that looked pretty cool, and seeing that we usually make our own ice cream a few times in the summer, what better gift for me this fathers day, right?
In receiving the product itself, it was small and compact, which is great, as we always need to save space in our kitchen. In looking over the product itself I loved the indicator lights that tell you when your waffle cone should be done as well as the safety latch that will catch and hold the actual irons closed as well. The instructions that came with the waffle cone maker were easy to follow and it also came with three recipes as well on how to make the batter for the cones. For my first attempt we used the regular waffle cone recipe.
Making the batter itself was not difficult and it did not use any ingredients that we didn’t have in the house. I got my youngest daughter who is five and her friend involved in the making of the cones. The recipe stated that it would make 6-8 cones, but I came to find that it only ended up making about 4 for me. The batter comes out a bit thick at first and I found that I had to estimate the number of ounces that you actually were supposed to use (which might have been why I only got 4 cones out of the recipe). That being said, one thing I would add to this if I was in charge was an actual cup that could be used to pour the batter (that was the right ounce amount) as that would be a perfect addition.
The recipe stated that once started you should only need to cook the waffle cones for 20-40 seconds to get them to the correct golden brown. I found that it took quite a bit longer than that, but it was not too long in the scheme of things.
When the first waffle cone came out, I placed it on the clean dish cloth and rolled it with the waffle cone form that was provided, but I don’t think I used the dish cloth correct as I was burning my hand with how warm that dough was and I did not get it closed adequately on the bottom. As the others came out of the waffle cone maker though I got better and better.
All-in-all, this was a cool product that definitely brought the family closer together. One thing that I wish that I had was the waffle cone holder that they have because placing the cones in glasses is a bit of a pain, but this is an additional accessory that I did not receive, but one that I think I may need to get in the future as it will make my waffle cone making that much simpler in the future!
I am looking forward to a summer of ice cream and waffle cones, how about you?
