Why You Need to Start Taking Better Care of Your Health

January 11, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

You’ve probably heard plenty of talk about the importance of healthy eating, an active lifestyle, and other common wellness phrases, but it’s often too easy to dismiss this as not applying to you. However, men are just as likely, if not more, to experience serious health concerns in their lifetime, especially as they get older. Here are some reasons, and tips, for getting more pro-active with your health.

Routine health checks can prevent serious issues

It’s a cliché to say that most men won’t go to the doctor unless it’s something really serious, and even then, they’d rather wait it out and hope it resolves by itself. Often, this results from damaging ideals about what masculinity means, which can sadly end up with more men suffering from serious conditions that could have been prevented had they taken action sooner.

Aim to have more frequent checkups with your physician and dentist, particularly as you age. It’s a good idea to regularly review your blood levels and weight. Suppose you have a family history of disease such as diabetes, heart issues, or cancer. In that case, staying vigilant of any early symptoms may help you treat and prevent illnesses from getting worse.

Invest in your diet

The food you eat is one of the most important things that affect your health and wellbeing, and it’s essential to make sure you have a balanced, nutritious diet if you want to enjoy an active and enjoyable life. While there are many kinds of diets and fitness plans, promising the perfect way to eat, in reality, it is far less complicated.

Simply making sure that you have a good mix of fruit and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and a moderate amount of proteins and healthy fats can help you meet most of your nutritional needs. An additional multivitamin for men at NoorVitamins.com can also provide a helpful top up of essential nutrients that are needed for healthy functioning.

Pay attention to your mental health

As well as ignoring physical health issues, a large number of men will also ail to pay attention to mental health concerns. This can happen for a variety of reasons, most commonly, the fact that men are often expected to be tougher and more resilient to emotional issues. However, this attitude has led to a huge number of men experiencing serious mental health problems, with growing rates of depression, anxiety, and many other disorders.

If you are worried about experiencing mental health issues, don’t hesitate to address it with a physician, therapist, or counselor. There are several ways to find a solution that works best for you. Taking steps to improve it will not only benefit you but can also set a great example for others. Encouraging friends and male family members to speak more openly about their mental health can also help reduce stigma and help them to reach out for help more easily when they need it.

I Found New Peanut Butter & Snacks You Have to Try!

September 10, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter

I have been a BIG Peanut Butter fan for years! Lately, my family and I have been more health conscious and thus we have been looking for more products that have fewer ingredients, allowing us to have a more natural experience when we eat.

I recently was introduced to Crazy Richard’s , a brand that has gone back to basics offering you 100% high quality nuts and nothing else in the peanut butter that you are eating. Crazy Richard’s is known for its creamy clutter-free nut butters that are made without the usual oil, sugar and salt, plus it tastes cleaner and better than any traditional nut butter. It tastes different than the ones that have the “clutter” as Crazy Richard’s explains, but in my opinion it tastes better!

Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter

I tried out both the extra creamy peanut butter, as well as the Crunchy Peanut Butter, and both were simply delicious. Don’t take my word on it, I can share with you that both my daughters gave it two thumbs up and said that it was awesome.

The nice thing about Peanut Butter is that it is offering so much more than a filler in PBJ sandwiches. Peanut Butter is doing a great job of filling out the protein that each of my family needs to round out their dietary intake. On top of this I also learned that peanut butter is a great source of niacin, antioxidants, resveratrol and manganese.

What I love about Crazy Richard’s is more than just the taste, but it is also that they don’t add any extra oils to their peanut butter because they use the natural oils found in nuts to ensure consumers get all the rich nutrients and protein they need in a healthier natural way.

You can get Crazy Richard’s  at Walmart, Spartan Stores, D&W, Family Fare, Amazon and CrazyRichards.com

AND JUST IN TIME FOR FALL SNACKING…NEW Wholly Rollies!

Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter Company has partnered with the National Peanut Board to roll out an entirely new category with the introduction of its new frozen snack line, Wholly Rollies – Frozen Protein Balls. This wholesome ready-to-eat snack is a satisfying, nutritious and delicious bite sized snack featuring only 5 ingredients.

Check out my thoughts on this very cool, natural snack!

Getting your fitness in as you get back into school schedule

August 23, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Tara Zimliki, founder of Tara’s Bootcamp, is no stranger to finding time for fitness.  As a mom of 4 children, she has the art of balancing back to school with her workouts. Below are some of her favorite tips for those looking to maximize their time for fitness:

Getting your fitness in as you get back into school schedule

Growing up, I remember the lazy days of summer which included sleeping in with no real priorities, staying out with family at the beach all day and heading to the boardwalk in the evening.  A midday nap to recharge was not uncommon in preparation for an evening out with the family.  When my sister and I woke up my parents took us to the  boardwalk for hours of arcade games, roller coasters and the evening usually ending with ice cream, yes, life was good.  On our day trips out to museums, water parks or family vacations; one or both of my parents were always there to supervise.  Naturally, I just assumed this was loads of fun for them, as it was for my sister and I.  I mean how could parents not have a blast as the squeals and laughter of children would indicate.  But as a mom of 4, I now realize things are not as simple as it seems.  Sure, us moms have fun but the summer is also a great deal of work trying to find time for self care activities like fitness.  As we head back into the fall schedule with children’s sports activities, managing completion of school work we naturally get back into a routine.  And as much as it can be tough managing time, it is somewhat easier having a schedule to follow by.  But be sure to include exercise in your back to school schedule.  And to get on track to success follow my back to school fitness tips:

1) Early bird gets the 6 pack

The earlier you rise, the more you get accomplished.  Get up an hour or two earlier so you can squeeze in your workout before you even get the kids off to school.  This is not only a good example to your children but you will also be amazed in how this sets the stage for a more positive and productive day.  As a personal trainer for over 14 years, the majority of my dedicated clients exercise in the wee hours of the morning.  Why?  The best time for no excuses, other then I am tired is in the AM.  And the only regret you will ever have is the workout you may have missed.  So make sure to not hit that snooze button and get out of bed sleepy head!

2) Exercise after the kids head off

If you find the mere thought of exercising at the crack of dawn to be daunting, find the best time that works best for you.  Some prefer exercising after the kids head off to school.  If you have time to do so before heading to work, go for it.  But be sure to make this a tip top priority so you stay on track to your goals.  When scheduling your kids activities be sure to schedule your workouts.

3) Workout during the kids activities

Instead of standing on the sidelines while your child practices soccer, go for a run or walk around the park.  Do not be a bench warmer, warm up your body with a super sweaty session.  In just 45 minutes to an hour several days a week you can get in better shape while feeling world’s better.  Who knows?! You may even begin a fitness trend that all the other team parents adopt also.

4) Midday workout can transform you

Break out of your afternoon slump, and awake your senses with a workout.  As your children are back in school you may find the free time in the afternoon to squeeze in a workout.  This will give you a surge of energy to fuel the remainder of the day when the kids get home.

So as the kids head back to school, schedule your routine for regular exercise.  Design a plan that works best for you and stick to it. As fall begins, it is time for you to fall back into fitness. I promise you that you will not regret it.  And you will have an established routine to help you manage your time best!

Kicking That Dad Bod This Summer

August 13, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Kicking That Dad Bod This Summer

Are you amazed at how quickly your partner managed to get back into shape after giving birth and wondering what her secret was? You don’t know how it happened, but one day you looked around and found you couldn’t see your toes anymore. It’s only to be expected for mom to put on a little weight when she’s pregnant, but where did your extra pounds come from? If you’re wondering how to get back into shape, so you can enjoy running around after the little ones, here are some tips that might help.

Skip the Late Night Meals

Do you find yourself overeating unhealthy snacks late at night? Do toasted waffles, tacos, potato chips, and pancakes get the better of you in the evening? As a busy parent, you’re going to use your evenings for chilling and relaxing, but that doesn’t mean you should be eating as well. Eating late in the evening is not the best time if you want to kick your dad bod. Consuming extra food at any time of the day is not great for the waistline. Your metabolism slows down when you sleep, which means your body is digesting and using calories at a much slower rate.

Drink Light Beer

If you regularly enjoy a few beers after a long day at work, you might not realize, but you’re consuming large amounts of unnecessary calories. If you really can’t ditch the habit all together, consider switching out to much lighter beers. Try to limit your intake to one or two beers a day or only drink on Friday and Saturday nights.

Quit Snacking

Life can become very hectic when there’s a baby on the way. This often means regular meals get replaced with unhealthy snacks. The problem with snack food is that it only fills you up for short periods of time and it’s not long before you’re reaching for the potato chips again because you’re hungry. Find the time to eat proper meals, and if you need some extra help, consider weight loss meal delivery from Jenny Craig.

Be Active

One of the best ways to lose those extra belly inches is to be more active. It’s possible to exercise at home but if you need added incentive or encouragement, consider joining your local gym. There are lots of other ways you can exercise; for example, joining a sports team, kickboxing, running, swimming or cycling. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as it gets your heart pumping at least once every day. The trick is also to keep as active as you can. Rather than driving everywhere, try walking. Take the stairs rather than the elevator. Take every opportunity to take your new addition out in the pram and show everyone in the neighborhood what a proud dad you are.

Don’t spend too long gazing in the mirror, wondering where all your extra inches have come from. Get out there and do something about it. With a little bit of effort and a few small changes, you can have a bod you’re proud of.

4 Ways To Fall Asleep in 5 Minutes

4 Ways To Fall Asleep in 5 Minutes

4 Ways To Fall Asleep in 5 Minutes

Yep-Even If You Have Kids!

I think something I share with a lot of other parents is the notion that sleep has become a delicacy like no other. That feeling at the end of a day when the kids are fed and (hopefully) fast asleep, the lunches are packed and breakfast is ready for tomorrow brings me so much joy to look forward to. Wouldn’t it be nice if it always worked out this way? More times than not I am convinced that as soon as my head hits the pillow I will be fast asleep and, unfortunately, more times than not it is more difficult than I like to admit  for me to drift off into a few hours of blissful rest. These are a few tips and tricks I have discovered aid in getting the most out of that essential sleep at the end of busy days.

Keep Your Sleep Space Mess-Free (At Least TRY To)

Try to keep your work space and your sleep space separate. A lot of things happen in your home, make a space to get work done that is separate from your sleepy-time oasis. Keeping you room as a tranquil place that gets a regular cleaning, allows your mind off and fall asleep easier and allow your stress level to decrease.

Put Your Phone Away

We have all heard it, but how many of us practice it? The blue light literally suppresses melatonin, the very thing your body releases to make you sleepy. I started leaving my phone on the table across the room from my bed so I can not give in and check social media before bed. There is never anything on there worth losing even a few minutes of precious sleep.

Meditate
In all the stress that comes with being a father, husband, or a co-worker, it can become very difficult to be everything you need to be for yourself. At the end of everyday, right as you get into bed take a few minutes to actively reflect on the day, and acknowledge what is on your mind. I keep a journal next to my bed so I can write down my thoughts and put them away before bed. Something about putting them on paper gets them out of my head for a little while. Focusing on you and how you show up for life makes a world of difference when you take a few moments to check in on you.

Keep Your Bedtime Consistent

Easier said than done-I know! Think about it though, there is a reason your kids have a scheduled bedtime (probably a lot of them), but it really does allow our bodies to get into a pattern of turning off around a certain time each night. Like anything when you incorporate something new into your life it takes some getting used to. Train yourself to be ready for bed around the same time and your body will listen to you! It is proven!

How To Take Better Care Of Everyone’s Health At Home

July 8, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

How To Take Better Care Of Everyone’s Health At Home

When you are the healthiest version of yourself, you are also able to achieve a lot more with your day. You feel more inspired, and you simply have the stamina that you need for any tasks that come your way.

Of course, your health won’t be optimal if you don’t take care of it, and this article will go over some tips you should follow that will not only benefit you but everyone else that you live with at home. It’s only natural that you want your family members to be equally healthy, as they are your loved ones and you want the best for them.

By pursuing healthier habits, it is possible for everyone to increase their quality of life. Continue reading for what these habits are.

Taking care of mental health

It is thanks to good mental health that you are able to maintain a positive outlook on life. To take better care of your mind, consider spending quality time with your loved ones, and simply participate in activities that you all enjoy. In other words, always do what makes you happy.

Eating properly

The type of food that you eat will always impact your mental and physical wellbeing alike, so you need to be careful about what you eat. Eating well as a family makes this habit easier to follow, as you can keep one another on track. Not to mention, you are bound to eat the food that you have at home in the first place, and if your fridge is filled with healthy alternatives, then your everyday meals will also be much healthier.

Spend time outdoors and stay active

Spending time outdoors is good for your overall wellbeing, and that is why it is something that you should prioritize doing at all times. Combine this with staying active, as this will not only release endorphins in your brain that make you happy, but it will help you maintain a healthy weight, strengthen your bones and muscles, and much more.

Visiting the doctor

To ensure that you don’t have an impending illness that you don’t even notice, you should regularly visit your doctor for check-ups.

Facing medical negligence

There are some situations where either yourself or your family members have become sick, and this is due to medical negligence. While this isn’t the norm, and this should definitely not deter you from visiting your doctor, you still need to know what to do during all situations that you might encounter.

For example, what do you do if you have a victim to medical negligence while you were giving birth? Which, as a result, means your baby is born with cerebral palsy – a condition in which your muscle coordination is impaired. You will need to make a complex birth injury claim, as soon as you can, and the only way to do so is with the right lawyer or cerebral palsy solicitors.

Supporting someone with this illness is difficult, and it requires the right type of treatment and therapy to get better. You are entitled to the best possible compensation when you or your family are not treated, as you should have been.

While it’s important to look after your family’s health, don’t forget that if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to properly take of others. It is exactly for this reason that your self-care must never be neglected, and working out as a family, or eating healthy meals together, then adds to the overall healthy lifestyle routine.

Raising A Healthy Family

July 6, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Raising A Healthy Family

When you have a young family, you want to raise them in the healthiest way possible. No one wants their children to be unhealthy, unfit, and miserable. No one wants their children to miss out on all the chances life gives them because they are unwell or can’t physically do all the things their peers can.

Therefore, it is important to plan carefully when it comes to raising a healthy family. There are many things you can do every day that will show your kids just how important it is to stay fit and to make it happen. Here are just some of them.

Start With Fruit And Vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are a hugely important part of everyone’s diet, so it’s imperative that your whole family eat them regularly. When your kids are little, it is easier to get them to eat their greens – they will eat what you give them without complaint.

As they get older, their taste buds change, and vegetables can taste bitter, which is why (along with hearing other children say how disgusting they are) children have trouble with vegetables.

Rather than completely cutting fruit and vegetables out of their diet just because they say they don’t like the taste, try including them at every meal and encouraging them to eat just a little a day. Make it normal, and don’t try to hide the vegetables in sauces and other ways as this won’t help the psychological aspect of eating healthy food.

Get A Water Softener

Water is another vital element of being healthy, and if you want to make the water in your home the best it can be, installing a water softener will help you to achieve this goal. A water softener will remove the ‘hard’ elements in water (such as calcium and magnesium), leaving purer, gentler water behind. This soft water is good for the skin and hair, although it can’t be drunk, so a water filter should be installed in the kitchen, or you can drink bottled water instead.

As with any piece of household equipment, your water softener will need service regularly. This will ensure that it is working at its optimum level, and keep your family’s skin and hair healthy and clean. As a bonus, since there will be nothing in the water that causes limescale, keeping your bathroom and kitchen clean is much easier too.

Exercise Together

As well as eating healthily and using good water, exercise is another vital component of being healthy, and of raising a healthy family. It’s even better if you can all exercise together. This doesn’t mean that everyone needs to go to the gym or has to join an exercise class; there are many different ways to exercise altogether as a family, including:

  • Walking
  • Playing sports in your yard or local park
  • Cycling
  • Running around together
  • Swimming
  • Playing games

Pick an activity that everyone enjoys, and no one will even think of it as exercise. This is also a good way to help you achieve the work-life balance, as you will need to make time to be together in this way.

Tips and Tricks for Spreading Health Awareness in Your Area

February 12, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Tips and Tricks for Spreading Health Awareness in Your Area

How often have you been told that you need to look after your health? It could have been something you heard from friends or family members, but what about from your neighborhood and the community in which you live? Do you ever see people going for runs in the evening after work or in the early morning hours?

Staying healthy is what will allow you to cope with illness, remain happy, and even reduce your daily stress among benefiting you in other ways. That is why it is incredibly important to adopt healthy habits, but not everyone is familiar with what this entails. Not everyone understands what it means to eat well-balanced meals, especially if they have been taught from a young age that eating processed food or sugar is acceptable.

It is, therefore, important to make an active change to your community. Leading a healthy lifestyle is one thing, but to help everyone around you too, can change a person’s life.

Talk to your friends and family members about it

The very first group of people that you can turn to are your friends and family members. These are individuals that you speak to often on a day to day basis, and if you want to start helping others, you should start with them.

For instance, how often do you talk to your family about the importance of physical activity? There are exercises you can do from home, such as even jumping rope, that if maintained, will keep you fit for the rest of your life. However, rather than simply talking to your loved ones about these healthy habits, you must offer information as to why they should adopt them, namely, that it will improve their well-being.

Once you have spoken to these individuals, you can move on to other groups. You family may also help you spread the word, too.

Help organize community events

Have you ever considered organizing a community event in your area? Some people may not be adopting healthy habits simply because they state they don’t have time. However, if you group a lot of people, it can also be more fun to exercise or go for a run, given that you have company to do it with.

Of course, you’ll need to consider the various logistics that goes into planning this type of event, but if you feel strongly about the health benefits of running and want others to do it, why not plan a large-scale event that will also be fun to participate in? This event should include everything from food, refreshments, and other activities.

Create a strong social media platform for it

Social media is a powerful tool, especially when spreading a message. In this case, you can use it for business purposes or personal, and spread the word about health and wellness.

Start an Instagram account that details your fitness goals. You can ask people to share their before and after photos along with what works for them; by having a community of people showing apparent changes, it can spur people on to follow suit.

Put together a website

Coupled together with social media, you can start putting together a website that contains various tips and tricks that allow you to live a healthy life. This can include anything from prepping meal plans, and what types of physical activity people can participate in.

In other words, you could establish yourself as a blogger in health and wellness, and you can eventually turn it into a larger-scale business venture with time.

Create a podcast

If you feel that writing isn’t your forte when it comes to spreading awareness, you can always choose to create a podcast, instead. This simply requires you to record your voice, although it is still essential for you to post the podcast on an online source, preferably on a website that you have been working on.

Always follow healthy habits yourself

We are living in an age of transparency, where people want to see the evidence before putting time, effort and money into something, be it a product, service or the word of a blogger. Therefore, there is little point in preaching the word of fitness if you, yourself, do not practice in it, too.

  1. Eat nutritious food

The next time you go grocery shopping, make sure to only purchase items that are organic and that will improve your overall health. Stick to a well-balanced and nutritious diet that is filled with vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates, and always drink plenty of water.

  1. Working out

It is crucial that you always devote some time to working out on a nearly daily basis. If you want to maintain your energy, you will need to exercise, go for runs, walk around your neighbourhood or even frequent the gym. While you don’t need to try out every work out in the book, sticking to at least a few will allow you to be physically healthy.

Only once you do this can you even become more knowledgeable on the topic, and thus tell others about what has or has not worked for you, as an example.

Become a professional fitness trainer

If health and fitness is something that you are interested in, you can always choose to pursue a career in this field, as well. You would also be seen as an expert by others, and people would come to you in order to get your help. Essentially, you can start your own business as a personal trainer or work for an existing company, although you will, regardless, need to get certified to do either.

Depending on the city you live in, there are plenty of organisations that offer these services such as how you can take the Leeds fitness courses today. These qualifications will allow you to help as many people as possible to achieve their healthiest and best selves. Not to mention, you will be fully knowledgeable on how to help yourself, as well.

If you feel strongly about health and wellness, why not spread the word about it? Moreover, if you feel that it is your passion, you can just as easily form a career around it, if you want to help more individuals than simply your immediate friends and family.

At the end of the day, there is always something you can do to spread awareness about a topic that you feel particularly strong about.

How to Keep Your Family Healthy and Happy

November 23, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

How to Keep Your Family Healthy and Happy

Living a healthy life is something that people aspire for. This is not only something that benefits yourself, but your entire family as well. Wouldn’t you want your loved ones to live long and happy lives? Everyone has bad habits that they pick up now and then, but overall, the goal should always be to pursue what makes you personally most happy.

The question remains, how can you keep your family well and happy? Although everyone needs to care for their own wellbeing, it is important to encourage one another in the process. Smaller kids, for instance, need their parent’s guidance, until they learn to be responsible adults who look after themselves. Talking with each other is key, spending quality time together, straying away from bad habits and continuously helping each other in times of need. For more information on all of the aforementioned, continue reading.

Talk With One Another

When was the last time that you spent a few hours talking to your loved ones about life? The conversations could include anything, so long as you verbalize your thoughts. Talk about your day, what you want to do in the future, events that happened in the past and so on. In particular, there are two things that you should always do when talking to your family:

Tell your family you love them

Whether you tell your parents you love them, parents tell their children, you talk to your aunts, uncles, cousins, or any other family member, you should always tell them that you appreciate and love them. Although the affection is felt even when it is not said out loud, it is something that you should always make a point of saying. You will notice the smile creep up on the person’s face as soon as you voice it.

Voice the stress

Everyone has to deal with stress at certain points, and when you do, it’s important that you talk about it. Stress harms your health, and it’s often times your loved ones that know exactly what to say in order to brighten your mood.

Go on Trips Together

When was the last time that you spent some quality bonding time with your family? While sitting down together for dinner is important, there needs to be more occasions where all of you are together. Consider planning and going on more family trips together, for one. This is something that will create a lifetime of memories together, and of course, make everyone happier as well.

Keeping Away from Bad Habits

When you or a family member becomes succumbed to bad habits, it’s important to be there for one another. From the very beginning, parents should teach their children the importance of living healthy lives, and what types of bad habits they should stray far away from. It’s not only a matter of education but leading by example as well.

That being said, if something were to happen, whether it’s alcohol or drug addiction, your loved ones will need help. Treatment centers are best equipped to do this, with one example being the services offered by Inspire Malibu, who help individuals get their life back on track.

At the end of the day, remember to never take one another for granted. Your loved ones are an important part of your life, and in order for everyone to be their happiest self, it is important to encourage each other. Something as simple as saying how much you love and appreciate one another will reduce everyone’s stress and make for a happier family.

Mamma Chia

My Take on Mamma Chia

I have been trying Mamma Chia over the last few weeks and have to same that I am impressed. Not only is there a ton of great health benefits when it comes to eating more Chia, but outside of this, the Mamma Chia products taste great too. In reviewing the products and the benefits of Chia I was really surprised to find the added benefit of protein that Chia offers, but also that it gives you healthy fat and fiber that can fill young bodies keeping filled longer than without. Finally Chia also offers all brain-friendly Omega-3s which again was not something I was aware of in the past. It’s also a great vitality boost to give people the energy they need to get from pick-up to bedtime. The mixture of flavors was also a great change. Mamma Chia offers you some very unique flavor combinations which was a lot of fun to try but also tasted great amazing too. I would highly recommend Mamma Chia to everyone!
