Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ Great Game For All Ages

March 14, 2023 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

In Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe Kirby is back for a 1-4 player* platforming adventure across Planet Popstar. I have been playing this great game over the past week and have loved it every step of the way.

In the game, float and fight along with friends on the same system as you control Kirby. Each other player can control a different Kirby or one of Kirby’s iconic friends like King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee.

Join forces to save the day

Take on the adventure alone as Kirby or invite other players to join the game as a different Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, or Bandana Waddle Dee. You and up to 3 friends can work together to find missing ship pieces in 4-player co-op on the same system.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ Deluxe

Team up for powerful Team Attacks

Combine powers with other players by riding piggyback! Just press and release the L or R buttons at the same time for a super-strong Team Attack. Effects will vary based on the number of players and who is on the bottom of the stack.

Play subgames for in-game rewards

Travel from Planet Popstar to the Merry Magoland amusement park! Play a colorful collection of subgames, collect stamps for your stamp rally, and earn in-game prizes. Share the fun with up to 3 friends on the same system.

Hop online* to see global fun facts or compete against player records from all over the world in Samurai Kirby 100.

Mask up at the Souvenir Shop

Talk to Souvenir Shop Waddle Dee to dress up each playable character with fun masks inspired by the Kirby series.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ Deluxe

A brand-new story starring Magolor

Alone in a strange dimension and without his powers, Magolor must platform through challenging stages and defeat enemies. You and up to 3 friends can take control of different-colored Magolors for 4-player interdimensional action. Complete the main story to unlock this new adventure!

Power up abilities with Magic Points

Use combo attacks to earn Magic Points to enhance Magolor’s abilities. Get special items to unlock new abilities! Each player receives the same benefits as Magolor’s abilities are leveled up. Master Magolor’s moves and overcome tougher challenges along the way!

My take on the Game

While you may think this game is for children, I will tell you that I found the game to be great for all ages. The game had a ton of great subgames as well as amazing graphics and a fun storyline. I tried out the game as a single player but even more so as a team with some friends and both were equally fun, thought the team play made the game even more enjoyable. I did get to the end of the game and one of the things that was great was that there was an additional chapter after you beat the game with new levels. You play as Magolar who is stripped of all his powers and you have to work to get your powers back. This was a great extra and it added an extra 2 hours or so of game time. One of the other things I liked was that in playing the mini games you are able to earn stamps and then cash in the stamps for masks that can be used on the main levels. All-in-all this was a super fun game for the whole family and I give it two thumbs up!

Game Review – Mario Golf: Super Rush

August 1, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Mario Golf: Super Rush

About the Game

Tee off with family and friends in this content-packed Mario Golf game
Hit the green with up to four players locally* or online** and golf with familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters. Modes range from Standard Golf to the energetic Speed Golf and an RPG-like golf adventure in story mode. Intuitive motion or button controls, a shot gauge that adapts to the curve of the course, and other new features make it easy for both new players and seasoned pros to drive and putt with power.

Swing simultaneously and make a break for the ball in Speed Golf
Tee off at the same time with up to three other players* and race through the course to get your ball in first. Outpace and interrupt your opponents with dashes and special shots. Mario, for example, can blow other players’ balls away.

Rise through the ranks of golf training in story mode
Enroll your Mii character in golf training in a prestigious country club and go from rookie to pro! You’ll face off against your Mushroom Kingdom classmates and earn experience points. Level up to improve your character’s stats like power, movement, and spin. You can bring your character (and their customized stats) into other modes, too!

My take on the game

This was my first experience in trying out Mario Golf games and for me this was a ton of fun. I tried out solo mode and party mode and I enjoyed both versions. I was surprised to find that the versions can really bring you hours of fun. As you progress through the game you will find that each round is different and a ton of fun. In the multiplayer mode you get to go off and chase the ball against your friends and this makes it all part of the fun. In the solo mode you can really work on perfecting your craft too which makes the game even more fun and you can really challenge yourself to get better and better.

I loved the amount of characters you could choose from and the different modes of the game allows you to try things in many different ways and makes the game seem different depending on the mode itself. In the adventure mode you are brought in as a rookie golfer and you have to go around the map, talking to people and learning on how best to work within the game, with the controls and more.

Rush mode was a lot of fun because it encourages you to play your ball faster to get your ball into the hole first.

If you love golf and Mario, this is a great game that I would highly recommend to all!

With the city in danger, even frenemies like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Star Sapphire will need to band together to help protect the town. Each Super Hero and Super-Villain has a unique set of abilities: for example, Wonder Woman uses her warrior skills with the Lasso of Truth and Flying Shield while Harley Quinn wields her Pop Roulette blaster that fires off mischievous effects to do both a little good and a little bad at the same time.

Freely explore the city as teenagers

Explore Metropolis as your alter ego: a high school teenager. Take on missions to help out local citizens, put a stop to graffiti in the town, save lost cats, and much more. You can even rebuild the mysterious Hob’s Bay, customizing new buildings to reimagine the area totally in your style. And don’t forget to meet up at the best hangout spots from the show like Metropolis High School and Sweet Justice…both of which happen to be perfect places to snap photos to share on Superstapost.
Power up your super squad

  • Save Metropolis with each Super Hero or Super-Villain’s unique abilities by defeating the tinkering terror of Toyman
  • Explore the city like a hero or a regular teenager and visit iconic hangout spots from the show. Metropolis High School and Sweet Justice: here we come! But be careful not to reveal your secret identity
  • Build up Hob’s Bay, an abandoned part of Metropolis, and put your own stamp on its fresh new look

Check out these game images

My Take on the game

I played this for a few hours and found that the game was a lot of fun. You get a good story mixed in with characters you have grown to know and love from the DC Super Hero Girls franchise. There are numerous tasks that you will have to do with different Supers. Some of the tasks are easier than others and some may take you a few tries to get it right, or at least it did for me. You get to flip between RPG mode and a photography mode which allows you to take a break every now and again. You also get some foreshadowing as you will find that both the heroes and villains are at the same school, even though they may not realize it at first. As you move through the game the levels are challenging and each monster or other challenge is different, so you will find that you will stay challenged throughout the game. One of the things that I liked is that the game is fully voiced and even minor characters have a voice. This is a nice touch as not all games offer this. You will find that you can start to build out your world, but then you have to protect what you have built. There are mini games that are fun and you can take pictures and share them on the equivalent of social media in their world. Overall, the game is a ton of fun, and whether you are a DC Super Hero Girls fan or not, it is a fun game for the whole family!

Game Review – Animal Crossing: New Horizons

April 8, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

About the Game

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you create your own little slice of paradise as you explore, build, and customize your very own deserted island. A cast of charming animal residents including Tom Nook and Isabelle help grow your budding community. Players make the world their own using a wealth of natural resources to craft everything from tools to creature comforts and decorate however they wish. You can even take a break to enjoy a beach sunset while ocean fishing or hunt down insects at the crack of dawn!

  • Build your community from scratch on a deserted island brimming with possibility; Create your personal getaway and customize your character, home, decorations, and even the landscape itself
  • Collect materials to construct everything from furniture to tools! Then, use what you create to give your island a personal touch
  • Watch as the time of day and seasons match real life—even your hemisphere! Each day holds potential for surprises and discoveries
  • Get to know the island residents, garden, fish, decorate, hunt for fossils, and more!

My Take on the Game

I have been a fan since Animal Crossing came out originally so I was extremely interested to see how this new version would hold up to my initial experience. While I have been held-up at home, this game let me create a whole new world (without virus) where I could build a home, make friends and be a productive member of the society. One of the things that I love in this game is that the charm of the first game was not lost in this one, and instead I think it is enhanced even further.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you experience island living. You and two randomly chosen animal island-mates start a new life on a deserted island after purchasing a getaway package from the entrepreneurial raccoon named Tom Nook. You’re handed a tent and a simple set of instructions: build out the island any which way you like, and they truly mean build.

In this game, one of the changes that I see is that you are crafting items from materials collected. This reminded me a bit of Minecraft but with a different type of humor. You don’t really know what will appear next, but you have to be ready for anything. Whether it’s a bathroom towel rack falling from a tree that you can harvest wood from or getting a t-shirt for saying something.

Being able to build in this game is intuitive and simple to do. You’ll find yourself in the menus often as you look up what ingredients are needed to make a furniture, but thanks to New Horizons’ accessible interface it is easy to navigate for all.

One of the cool things that you will experience, if you have never played this game, is experiencing that what happens, happens in real time. So for instance, a character might say “this will happen tomorrow.” When this is said you may think that this means in an hour, but no, it is actually tomorrow. This is something that you have to get used to, as many games do not allow you to experience things in this way, but this game is different and fun in this way.

This game will allow you to tally up hours of game play, which is another great thing for any gamer. The time really flies by, and before you know it, you will also wonder where the time went. The game is fun to play and experience. For any Switch owners looking for something to do during these uncertain times this will definitely allow you to get away from it all for a while. I would highly recommend this game for all.

My Take on the Game

My dad told me about playing this game when he was a kid but I never played the original Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga on Game Boy Advance, but I will say that I am always looking for a great game and Mario & Luigi have always been my favorite characters and games over the years. I was excited to try out this new game because of this too. The game was a ton of fun, mixing in humor, great characters, and a fun plot as well. The battle system and mechanics in the game were excellent, and the overall game felt fresh and new.

In playing the game I found that Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga had a great fighting system with some great battles too.  I have found that in this game Mario & Luigi simply keeps your characters active during a scuffle, ensuring that there’s never a dull moment.

You can work together as a team or fight individually. There are so many different battles that you can have and some of the bosses do take some time and effort to vanquish. The game is well paced and the addition of upgrades which allow you to become more powerful helps you to become stronger within the battles that you are in!

In the end, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is a great new game. I had a blast playing this and if you are a fan of great gaming and of Mario and Luigi, look no further than this fun game!

Game Review – Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

August 27, 2016 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpgGame Review – Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

About the Game

In Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, you get to do the following:

  • Manage your own boutique, design clothes fit for a fashionista, or style some wicked hair!
  • Master the art of make-up, and even become the next top model.
  • The world is your runway in this fun fully outfitted fashion game.

My Take on the Game
If you have someone in your family that loves style and fashion this game is one that will definitely live up to their expectations. The game has a nice story within it and as you go through the game you will find that you can not only interact with the characters but also with the environment.

You can do things like decorate a house with fun miniatures. On top of this you have your shop and in this version you do have the ability to better customize the shop itself. There were a number of clothing brands in the game and while the styles are very similar to earlier versions the brands are a bit different.

One fun thing that you get to do in this is have and participate in fashion shows and sell tickets for them to move forward in the game.

There are some ways in which you can get into some premium content. There are some add ons that can be purchased in the game if you connect the game to a funding source. Be careful about this with younger kids.

The game offers hours of game play and you can really get into the characters themselves. On top of this you also can dress the characters in very unique outfits too. I noticed that there was no way for you to be able to dress men in the game, only women. This was a bit of an oversight in my opinion.

Overall, this has been a ton of fun to play, and for anyone that loves fashion this is a game that is a must have.

Game Review – Yo-Kai Watch for Nintendo 3DS

December 23, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

YO-KAI WATCH for Nintendo 3DS
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg
My daughters are a part of the Nintendo Kid Reviewer Program
About the Game

centers on a boy who gets a special watch that lets him befriend and help mischievous Yo-kai* and later summon them to fight other Yo-kai. Players can overcome challenges and help various characters solve everyday problems with the help of Yo-kai friends. These eccentric Yo-kai resemble anything from inanimate objects to mythical creatures.

YO-KAI WATCH for Nintendo 3DS YO-KAI WATCH for Nintendo 3DS

My Daughters’ Take on the Game

This game was a lot of fun! I loved being able to go from place to place trying to catch the monsters that were causing so much craziness in this game. I used to play the Pokemon game, and while some of my friends told me that this game was similar, I didn’t see it.
I liked that I could pick who I wanted to be. It was also cool to be able to be a detective/monster-hunter. The monsters/spirits are not always easy to find, but it was still a ton of fun to be able to find them.
YO-KAI WATCH for Nintendo 3DS
I liked the yokai the best, as they could talk and it made them real and interesting too. I liked to hear their stories and see what was behind them as characters.
If you have never played this, you get to go on a number of missions and though they are not very long, they were still a ton of fun!

YO-KAI WATCH for Nintendo 3DS
The game went a lot longer than I first thought too, as there were a ton of Yokai that could be “captured” in the game. Well, I guess you are not really capturing them, you are asking the Yokai to help you.

In the end though I really liked  and I think you will too!

December 3, 2013 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

DuckTales: Remastered WII UDuckTales: Remastered WII U
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg
About the Game

DuckTales: Remastered is the perfect game that both kids and parents can enjoy together, available on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U. Players will embark on an authentic DuckTales adventure, as Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews; Huey, Dewey and Louie travel to exotic locations throughout the world in their quest to retrieve the 5 Legendary Treasures. Originally released 24 years ago, the game has been beautifully remastered, providing new parents the opportunity to share their favorite childhood show with their game-savvy kids, bridging the generation gap and ultimately bringing families together.

Game Features

  • Relive the classic TV series from the 1980’s follow the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews Huey & Dewey & Louie as they fend off enemies including the Beagle Boys and Magica DeSpell on their quest to obtain treasures from across the world
  • Authentic Disney experience – some of your favorite Disney characters are brought to life by many of the original voice-over talent from the classic DuckTales TV series and stage backgrounds take their inspiration from the classic TV episodes
  • Learn to pogo – in an all new tutorial level learn the basic playing skills including Scrooge McDuck’s iconic pogo jump and cane swing
  • Visit the museum – track your achievements, progress and status on the leader boards in Scrooge McDuck’s new Museum
  • Cash in your coins at Scrooge McDuck’s Money Bin – a new playable area, Scrooge’s Money Bin allows players to track the amount of wealth accumulated and even take a swim through his latest spoils

My Take on the Game

This game was a blast! I remember playing this game back on NES in 1989 and it was so much fun then especially as this was the heyday of the DuckTales television cartoon. While the game was very similar to the older version, I will say the addition to the HD graphics were spectacular and you get to have a ton of fun bouncing on the heads of your enemies with the can of Scrooge. This was a a lot of fun though it is a bit shorter than I would have liked, as you just get into the game and then the game is done unfortunately. The nice thing though is that there are differing levels of difficulty that you can play to challenge yourself along the way.
