Give A Great Gift To a Dad For Valentines Day!

February 10, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Are you looking for an amazing way to celebrate a dad or man in your life for Valentines Day? Sometimes it is not always easy to come up with that perfect gift, but that’s where the Manly Man Company comes in!

About the Manly Man Company

Origin Story

The idea for the Manly Man Company® came to Greg Murray after a simple conversation with his wife Jacquie, for whom he had recently bought a bouquet of flowers: Why isn’t there a gift for men that’s equivalent to flowers? Yes, you can buy men flowers, but the practice isn’t what you might call commonplace. The couple speculated that a bouquet of beef jerky might be the perfect stand-in. Soon after his wife surprised Greg with the very first iteration of what is now called “Man Bouquets”— sticks and sheets of jerky carved into the shape of flowers and roses that are presented inside a pint glass or beer mug “vase”.

Manly Man Company

Veteran-Owned Business

After the Murray’s discovered man bouquets were the perfect solution for the dilemma of what to get “him” for Valentine’s Day, during their first week in operation, Greg called a high school classmate with him he enlisted in the Marine Corps— Ben Wynkoop, to join Greg and Jacquie as the third Co-Founder, to efficiently place their custom products in front of as many people as possible, online.

Manly Man Company

The Manly Man Company boasts an ever-growing line of unique, custom and curated gifts that include:

  • Meathearts™
  • Beef Jerky Flowers
  • Bacon Roses
  • Meat Cards™
  • Single Malt Scotch Caramel Heart Tin
  • Manly Scented Gift Wrapping Paper
  • Manly Gift Sets
  • MAN CARD bottle openers
  • Tactical Christmas Stocking Kits

My take on the Manly Man Beef Jerky Flower Bouquet

I was really impressed by the beef jerky flower bouquet that I tried out. I received one that had a great mix of both sweet and spicy and all of them tasted amazing (Even my kids loved them – yes I shared). The presentation was beautiful and the pint glass they came with was fun (for a glass of beer). This is definitely a company that stands out and has such unique things. Get ready to be asked to share when this one of a kind gift reaches your door.

Humming Hemp & their new Hummingbars™

November 17, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Humming Hemp is the company, an emerging female-founded-and-led startup, and they have big ambitions to clear up any confusion surrounding the plant and introduce it as an accessible, powerfully nutritious, highly versatile, family-friendly household staple (that won’t get you high, just cleanly and superbly nourished, and feeling good about incorporating a plant that is probably the most “sustainable” and versatile of them all!).
The company first took to market a line of hemp food “pantry staples” (hemp hearts, hemp oil, protein powder, etc.) back in 2017, and figured that their best next step – and best way to get hemp’s household adoption rates up – was to introduce it in an innovative, tasty, familiar and recognizable package – and the new hummingbar™ was born. Launching right now onto the shelves of “conventional” Kroger stores nationwide (and already on-shelf in Raley’s supermarkets in N. Ca.), this delicious, nutrient-dense, clean-label protein-energy bar is on a different level from the rest. Made from soft and chewy hemp hearts grown on family-run farms in America’s Heartland — supporting the small American farmer, and sweetened with raw USA honey from Humming Hemp’s sister company humble honey co. — supporting the American Beekeeper and elevating raw, unprocessed honey that is in itself a Superfood, together the ingredients deliver the perfect balance of taste, creamy-yet-firm consistency, and solid nourishment, with each bar offering:
  • 11-12 grams of raw, complete, easily digestible plant-based protein, containing all 20 amino acids – including the 9 essential amino acids we can only get from food (fun fact, hemp has more protein per ounce than chicken)
  • The ideal ratio of vital Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids – important for keeping inflammation at bay, and especially rich in GLA – a rare Omega-6 that is highly anti-inflammatory and great for skin, hair and hormones
  • A macro and micronutrient profile to rival your daily multivitamin, especially rich in magnesium – a mineral up to 50% of the US population is deficient in
  • A RAW/CLEAN, Paleo, Dairy Free, Non-GMO, Grain-Free and Gluten-Free source of balanced nutrition on-the-go
  • 5 different unique and delicious flavors: Almond & Chocolate, Honey & Cinnamon, Lavender Pistachio & Blueberry, Pumpkin Seed & Spice, and Seed & Date
Hemp is not just for hippies anymore, but for Everyone – and Everything, and Humming Hemp is the company that wants to make sure you know that. I would love to send you some samples of their new hummingbars and their additional lineup of products if you would like to try? We have a beautiful mailer that includes their Raw Hemp Hearts (flavored and plain), Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Hemp Seed Oil, Raw Hemp Protein Powder, recipe cards with easy and tasty ideas for using the oil and hearts (here’s a preview), and a lovely hemp fiber tote – perfect for groceries or humming around town.

My Take on the Humming Bar

Over the past week I’ve been trying a new snack bar call the humming bar pretty. One of the things I was really unique about this snack bar was that it is made with hemp seed. And looking at all of the different health benefits of hemp it is amazing to see and try this. The snack bar itself comes in a number of different flavors that are very unique and not something I’ve seen in other bars of similar type. I think it’s a very unique product right now on the market cuz I don’t see a lot of hemp based product on the market today. A lot of times people think of hampel with illegal substances but this is not. This is a true health related products to that is very tasty and actually fills you up quite extensively. My kids also try the bars and really liked it the flavors as well. If you are looking for a natural snack bar that fills you up and paste grade this is definitely one that I would recommend.

I Found New Peanut Butter & Snacks You Have to Try!

September 10, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter

I have been a BIG Peanut Butter fan for years! Lately, my family and I have been more health conscious and thus we have been looking for more products that have fewer ingredients, allowing us to have a more natural experience when we eat.

I recently was introduced to Crazy Richard’s , a brand that has gone back to basics offering you 100% high quality nuts and nothing else in the peanut butter that you are eating. Crazy Richard’s is known for its creamy clutter-free nut butters that are made without the usual oil, sugar and salt, plus it tastes cleaner and better than any traditional nut butter. It tastes different than the ones that have the “clutter” as Crazy Richard’s explains, but in my opinion it tastes better!

Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter

I tried out both the extra creamy peanut butter, as well as the Crunchy Peanut Butter, and both were simply delicious. Don’t take my word on it, I can share with you that both my daughters gave it two thumbs up and said that it was awesome.

The nice thing about Peanut Butter is that it is offering so much more than a filler in PBJ sandwiches. Peanut Butter is doing a great job of filling out the protein that each of my family needs to round out their dietary intake. On top of this I also learned that peanut butter is a great source of niacin, antioxidants, resveratrol and manganese.

What I love about Crazy Richard’s is more than just the taste, but it is also that they don’t add any extra oils to their peanut butter because they use the natural oils found in nuts to ensure consumers get all the rich nutrients and protein they need in a healthier natural way.

You can get Crazy Richard’s  at Walmart, Spartan Stores, D&W, Family Fare, Amazon and CrazyRichards.com

AND JUST IN TIME FOR FALL SNACKING…NEW Wholly Rollies!

Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter Company has partnered with the National Peanut Board to roll out an entirely new category with the introduction of its new frozen snack line, Wholly Rollies – Frozen Protein Balls. This wholesome ready-to-eat snack is a satisfying, nutritious and delicious bite sized snack featuring only 5 ingredients.

Check out my thoughts on this very cool, natural snack!

Adventuring In Food While Traveling

July 30, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Adventuring In Food While Traveling

Traveling is all about experiencing new cultures, learning about parts of the world far removed from your own and connecting with people of different nationalities and religions. If you happen to love eating, then it’s also about the food.

Food has long been a great way for a traveler to integrate with locals, whether it be fish and chips in the United Kingdom or something a little more exotic from a Vietnamese street market. Nobody, after all, wants to be the other side of the world and eating in a fast food chain that exists in their hometown.

Here are four ways in which you can experience the best local cuisine while you are traveling.

Connect to the local restaurant scene

The best way to experience local cuisine is obviously to go where locals go – and that can often mean heading off the beaten track. Take New York, for example. How many locals ever eat in and around Times Square unless they are going to a show on Broadway? Not many is your answer.

To experience a real taste of New York (or anywhere else for that matter), you need to look to the suburbs of a city or town, to where the real people live. In a world where TripAdvisor exists, that is now a lot easier. Find the number one rated pizza joint away from the hustle and bustle of downtown New York, and you’ll be enjoying a far more authentic taste of the city with authentic New Yorkers.

Don’t be afraid of going down the cliché route

Having said that, you shouldn’t be afraid of going down the cliche route when it comes to eating out. If you’re in Paris, it might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sample genuine French snails, frog’s legs, or any of those other weird things that the French eat.

This is true of anywhere in the world. Don’t be afraid to gulp down a huge steak or burger in between sticking it all on red in casino restaurants. Why not go for a barbecue in Australia or have a burrito in Mexico – sometimes, cliche food can give us experiences we can’t get anywhere else.

Visit a local food market

Over the last decade, food markets have become popular tourist destinations for travelers. Food market bucket lists are now a thing, and National Geographic has even produced the Best Food Market in the World list – with Toronto’s St Lawrence Market coming top if you’re looking for destination inspiration.

It isn’t hard to see why, as these markets are a great way to understand and experience local cuisine. It’s quite easy to lose yourself for hours at a time in a food market, wandering around and taking in the sights and smells. You can sample and purchase authentic local ingredients in a way that really takes you to the heart of the city or country you are visiting.

Eat with a local in their home

Airbnb brought travelers into people’s homes as an alternative to hotels, and now that is extending into locals inviting strangers in for a dinner party. Websites such as EatWith allow travelers to seek out locals who are looking to throw a dinner party for guests they don’t know. This can provide the unique opportunity of actually being able to go and eat a local meal with a local family in their home. You won’t find many experiences more authentic than that.

Germany Is Dad Food Heaven

October 2, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Germany Is Dad Food Heaven

Germany Is Dad Food Heaven

There are three main ingredients that make Germany one of the guy food capitals of the world:

  •        Beer
  •        Meat
  •        Bread

What else do you need? While they probably wouldn’t be approved by your family doctor — and while there’s a whole lot more that German cuisine has to offer — there are plenty of rich carb-and-protein plates that you should take full advantage of during a short visit.

Explore the Regional Specialties

It seems like almost every town has at least one specialty beer, and they’re almost all wonderful. However, most of the locals will tell you that beer is always best when you drink it with food — and even better if you make the right pairing. Explore enough of the country, and you may even get a few ideas for beer-friendly dinners when you get back home.

Check Out a Bakery or Grocery Store

Restaurants are all well and good, but there’s a lot to be said for eating like a local — or at least snacking like one. You probably won’t have regular access to a kitchen on your family trip, but don’t write off these everyday shops. The local Aldi, REWE, and Lidl stores have plenty of road-trip essentials, from soda for the kids to spicy dried sausages for you. Bakeries are also a great choice for supplies. They’re absolutely everywhere in the country, and they offer the best instant gratification around.

Get Around

You have plenty of options when it comes to getting around Germany. There’s the Deutsche Bahn, one of the best railways in the world. Unfortunately, it’s also pretty pricey — especially when you’re taking multiple people between cities. A rental car is also a good option. Even though the train services most areas, you’ll have a lot more freedom to explore — and you won’t have to decipher the honor-system fares the rail system uses.

Visit the Food Centers

Most people associate Germany with beer, sausage, and pretzels — and they’re not wrong. However, the country has a lot more to offer if you know where to look. Make sure to mark on your map what to eat when traveling to Stuttgart, Germany, or similar towns that offer regional specialties. Like many of the larger countries in continental Europe, Germany has a wide range of climates, terrains, and cultures that leads to a diverse, interesting cuisine.

Take Day Trips

You can only take full advantage of any region if you make a few day trips out of the downtown areas or tourist centers. Simply hop on the train or fuel up your car and get everyone out to the countryside. You’ll find out very quickly, whether it’s from the many road signs on the highway or from your own online research, that there are plenty of fun, weird things to do in Germany.

Deepen Your Culinary Knowledge

Learning is a lot more fun when it involves eating big plates of satisfying food. Take each dinner as an opportunity to learn something. There’s always a new culinary technique or piece of history hidden in each German recipe. If nothing else, you’ll discover the true power of these hearty foods: their ability to bring families together over an enjoyable meal.

Using Manwich Bourbon For A Great Summer BBQ Meal

June 30, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Kroger

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.

After just getting back from being in North Carolina and having BBQ, I felt compelled to do a little shopping myself to get into the BBQ spirit. I have not had a good BBQ Burger in a while and in going to my local Kroger I found that there was a brand new Manwich, Manwich Bourbon that was perfect for the burgers that I wanted to make (Manwich can also be made with chicken or pork).

Manwich Bourbon

We were having a few kids over to spend the night so to tide them over I also made sure to pick up a few Slim Jim Premium Sticks, as I knew that the kids would be hungry and we needed something to hold them over until I could pull the burgers off of the grill.

slim jim premium sticks

I do love to cook, especially on the grill. I also like to experiment a bit and in seeing the Manwich Bourbon I knew that this was a perfect time to experiment with this to make an amazing burger. It was not hard to create the burger itself. I used the below recipe to create the ultimate Manwich Bourbon Burger.

Manwich Bourbon Burger (Makes 6 burgers)

  • 2 lbs of ground round
  • 1 can of Manwich Bourbon
  • Breadcrumbs (use only if meat becomes too runny from sauce)
  • 6 Hamburger Buns

Manwich Bourbon

This was a very easy recipe as all you have to do is take the meat and slowly work in the Manwich Bourbon into the meat itself. Depending on how much meat you have will determine whether you need the entire can or not. You do not want the burger to be too runny. If you find that the burgers have become too runny, then add in breadcrumps into your burgers to soak up some of the sauce.

Manwich Bourbon

Once you have put together the burgers, you will want to allow them to sit in a freezer back to hold in the sauce for about an hour or so.

Once you are ready to make the burgers, take the out of the fridge, fire up the grill on low heat and cook slowly to taste.

Manwich Bourbon

The burgers also taste great with cheese, so pick out your favorite cheese and melt on the cheese while the burgers are still on the grill.

Manwich Bourbon

Biting into the burgers you will get to taste the great sweet and tangy flavor of the Manwich Bourbon BBQ Sloppy Joe Sauce. While Manwich has been around since the 1960’s this new flavor really kicks up the flavor even more. I also love that in an entire can you are only getting 180 calories (35 calories per serving).

Manwich Bourbon

I also have to say that the kids did love having the Slim Jim Premium Smoked Sticks as snacks. They have tried these snack sticks in the past but we usually get the smaller sticks so having the larger sticks was definitely a treat! What I love about these premium smoked sticks is that each stick is grass-fed 100% beef or 100% premium pork, always raised without hormones, and with no artificial colors or flavors, and no added MSG. Also, each serving contains at least 10 grams of protein.

slim jim premium sticks

While I was at the store I found a few varieties available, but I chose to select The Smokehouse Original stick contains brown sugar and soy sauce, combining for a sweet and savory experience with a hint of spice (100% Grassfed Beef, 10g Protein).

Finding Southern BBQ Flavor in Hendersonville, North Carolina

June 26, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Moe's Original BBQ

While we were visiting Henderson County, we spent some time in Hendersonville and while there we wanted to take some time to have some great southern BBQ. In asking around we were told about Moe’s Original Bar B Que, a staple restaurant in downtown Hendersonville.

Moe's Original BBQ Moe's Original BBQ

As you walk into this casual dining establishment, you will find that they have a little bit of everything for someone that loves meat or BBQ. They even have tempeh, a vegetarian alternative for someone wanting BBQ (without the meat).

Moe's Original BBQ

You can choose to have a sandwich or a platter and they even have larger meals for a larger family. With both sandwiches and platters you get to select from two of the sides that are traditional to the menu or two of the special sides that they have on a chalkboard next to the main menu. The only other difference that the employees mentioned was that you get more meat on a platter. You also get a drink thrown in for your meal. They do have a full bar as well with local and national beers. I did not have an alcoholic beverage but there were a number of local ones that looked good!

Moe's Original BBQ

The employees are super friendly and very helpful. They are more than willing to offer you advice to what to eat or even their favorites of sides.

Moe's Original BBQ Moe's Original BBQ

The food did not take long to arrive and when it did it looked great. The whole family dug in and the BBQ had great flavor. Moe’s has their own signature sauce that has a sweet tang and a tinge of heat too. If you want your food to be hotter, there are sauces available for you to enjoy sitting on the edge of the bar just waiting for you.

Moe's Original BBQ

In the end, if you want some great southern BBQ in Hendersonville, look no further than Moe’s Original BBQ!

My family loves popcorn and we are always looking for great popcorn to share as a family and recently we just had the chance to try the Organic Nearly Naked Popcornopolis popcorn and we were really impressed.
