How to Create An Easter Basket Your Kids Won’t Forget

March 21, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.

It’s almost Easter and that means that you may be already working on some Easter Baskets for the kids. Usually you would fill it with sweets but what about creating some baskets with other items that your kids will love?

For me, I tend to know my kids, and I know what they love. While they do love chocolate, they also love snacks and lately I have been going through my fill of Slim Jim snacks and popcorn – the kids can’t get enough of them.

I decided to forego some of the candy to create an Easter Basket that will be different than they have ever had before. I went to my local Walmart to stock up and I not only found every Slim Jim varieties, but I also picked up some Orville Redenbacher and BIGS Sunflower Seeds. While this might not sound like something that a kid would love, you don’t know my own daughter.

Here are some of the tips that I would offer you for creating an Easter Basket that matches the personality of your child.

  1. Think about what your child likes most. Incorporate these items into the basket.
  2. Make the basket educational and entertaining
  3. Are you traveling around Easter if so, consider adding in some travel games or other on-the-go entertainment.
  4. What type of snacks do your kids love most. As mentioned, mine love Slim Jim snacks and popcorn – add some of their favorites to the mix
  5. Candy? Sure! Think about what they love most and add them in, but you don’t have to go over the top.
  6. What hobbies do your kids have? Do they collect anything. Depending on the answers of these questions you can add in some unique items to surprise the kids… for example, my eldest daughter loves Harry Potter and I could throw in a figurine or some other Harry Potter themed item and she would love it.

I mentioned the basket that I was creating and by now you might be wondering what it looks like. Below you will find the end result! Pretty awesome, right?

If you want some additional inspiration, try putting together a virtual Easter basket thanks to Slim Jim and you can even enter a sweepstakes that they are having!

Whether you have had a Slim Jim recently or not, you will be happy to know that they have a HUGE variety to choose from. My kids love them and I would highly recommend you to pick up a stick or more the next time you are at Walmart.

Want to know more about some of the new Slim Jim products that are available, check out some info on some of the varieties below:

Slim Jim Original Smoked Snack Sticks, 26-count box, $4.98?

One of the things I love about Slim Jim snack sticks is that they are made with beef, pork, and chicken. Because these came with 26 sticks I could easily throw one into a lunchbox or the kids could grab one for a quick snack. The flavor is bold and smoky and tastes great!  Even better, these small snack sticks have 7 grams of protein per serving!

Slim Jim Mild Smoked Snack Sticks, 26 ct. $4.98?

If the original flavor is a bit too bold for you you can also pick up a 26 pack of Slim Jim Mild Smoked Snack Sticks. The flavor is milder but still tastes amazing!

New Skylanders Imaginators Characters In Time for Easter

April 12, 2017 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Just in time for Easter, Skylanders Imaginators has come out with some amazing new characters that you will simply love. These Skylanders characters go so well with Easter. Not only do you find them in pastels that go well with the holiday but you also will find that they are also great additions to the Skylanders universe too.

So your Easter baskets are going to become a lot more powerful with these new Sensei for Skylanders Imaginators that are not only in fun bright colors that are perfect for the holiday, but a great addition to the new game. Activision sent us the newest Imaginators releases – Pain-Yatta, Grave Clobber and an Easter Exclusive Egg Bomber Air Strike. All of the new characters open new levels for your characters in your Imaginator games, and bring in new skills you can learn as you go.

We have loved using the new characters with their new abilities and incorporating them into the Skylanders universe. Check out the new character’s back stories and what they can do to add to your game!

Skylander Imaginators Grave Clobber

Grave Clobber was once a great pharaoh who ruled the Golden Desert long ago. That was until his seven jealous brothers buried him in an underwater tomb while he was sleeping. But the remaining brothers still fought among themselves, and their infighting ultimately led to their kingdom falling apart and the family name being lost forever… almost. Because Grave Clobber eventually rose from his watery grave, and when he discovered what his brothers had done to their kingdom, he hunted each of them down and clobbered them. This was how he came to the attention of the Golden Queen, who now ruled the desert herself. She recruited Grave Clobber into her gang of Doom Raiders, but when the Skylanders defeated them once and for all, Master Eon thought that perhaps there was more to this mummy than meets the eye. He gave the old pharaoh a chance for redemption, and since nobody clobbered better than Grave Clobber, he was the perfect choice to be a Sensei trainer for the Brawler Class.

Skylander Imaginators Pain-Yatta

Growing up, Pain-Yatta’s best friend was the legendary Unocorn, a unicorn with a churro-horn that sprinkles magical cinnamon from time to time. While the cinnamon donuts for breakfast were incredible, being so sweet and delicious made them both easy targets for those looking for yummy treats. But Pain-Yatta had no problem protecting the both of them with his giant sucker! One day, however, the Unocorn went missing, and Pain-Yatta was beside himself. He tried desperately to find his buddy, but to no avail. That’s when the Doom Raiders tricked him into thinking that the Skylanders were behind it all, and Pain-Yatta fell for it hook, line and sinker. He joined up with the band of villains and ventured out to get revenge on the Skylanders, but was eventually captured by the Trap Masters. Master Eon explained that the Skylanders had nothing to do with the Unocorn’s disappearance and said he would help Pain-Yatta find his friend, if he became a Skylander Sensei and trained new Imaginators in the ways of smashing! Pain-Yatta agreed and the search for the missing Unocorn continues.

Skylander Imaginators Hard-Boiled Flare Wolf

Kaos has discovered the ancient power of Mind Magic and is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders! Eon is calling upon all Portal Masters and Skylands’ greatest mystic warriors, the Senseis, to stop Kaos and his minions. Now, you must use the power of your imagination to create your own Skylanders to battle in the ultimate adventure alongside the almighty Senseis to save Skylands.
When Flare Wolf was young, he worked all summer to earn the coveted Fireworks Badge from the Wolf Scouts. In doing so, he had earned the right to light the fireworks in the annual St. Wigglewort’s Day celebration an honor of which Flare Wolf was extremely proud. But on the day of the celebration, a band of evil Ice Ogres attacked his village and took the entire community hostage! The only weapons at his disposal were the town’s supply of fireworks they were saving for the evening festivities. One by one, Flare Wolf lit them in the center of the Ogre camp, launching a dazzling display of pyrotechnics that sent the Ogres running. Not only had Flare Wolf saved his village, he had also given its residents the most spectacular fireworks show they had seen in over 100 years! Even Master Eon was impressed, and offered Flare Wolf a position at the Academy as the Official Fireworks Launcher. But after seeing him in action, he quickly realized that Flare Wolf had much more to offer as a Sensei!

Skip The Sugar This Easter – Give A Vanilla Gift Instead

April 3, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Vanilla-Gift
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Pops of green scenery, flower buds and warm temperatures are (hopefully) in our near future-spring is on its way. With this, pastel painted marshmallow peeps, chocolate shaped bunnies, and eggs filled with all the sugary sweet concoctions under the sun have begun to flood store shelves nationwide. The Easter bunny is also on his way.

Instead of filling loved one’s baskets tacky, overpriced stuffed animals and sweets sure to induce sugar highs, why not give them something everyone can make use of?  Money to spend as they please.

Vanilla Gift is a gift card, accepted anywhere Visa is, with denominations up to $500. They come in numerous themes and designs, are available at retailers nationwide and come ready to use immediately.

My take on Vanilla Gift

What a great way to let the one you love know that you care. In giving a Vanilla Gift, you allow the person to decide what they want, instead if just loading them up with sugar. Sounds like a better idea for me as a parent, as my kids get enough sugar without more being added in the mix on holidays such as Easter. In trying the card myself I found it to be very easy to use and with portability comes ease of access. I also found that being that it has the VISA name attached to it, it was accepted wherever we went.

Giveaway

How would you like to win a $25 Vanilla Gift gift card for yourself or for your family? All you need to do is fill out the below form to be entered.  The contest will run for one week and will end on April 12, 2015.

Skylanders rolls into Easter with New Toys and Starter Pack!

March 24, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

In search for the hottest Easter themed gifts for holiday round-ups or posts? Skylanders Trap Team has hopped into the Easter spirit with three limited edition toys: Eggsellent Weeruptor, Power Punch Jet-Vac and a special Bunny Earth Trap! Weeruptor and Jet-Vac are Minis characters made especially for Spring holiday and feature pastel colors and an egg-shaped package design. Full descriptions of these are included below!

Furthermore, Skylanders Trap Team has partnered with Crayola on a special edition Color Alive! Starter Pack! The packs, available now, allow kids to bring coloring to life on tablets or smartphones through Crayola’s new Color Alive! 4D Experience augmented reality technology. The limited edition packaging features unique black and white line art of Skylanders characters for Portal Masters to color using Crayola’s Crayons included in the Starter Pack.

Character descriptions:

EggsWeeruptor

Eggsellent Weeruptor: Weeruptor was chosen as this year’s official mascot for the Annual Dragon Egg Hunt!  Being new to this time honored tradition, he disguised himself as a candy-coated egg and proceeded to capture Spyro, Cynder, and Drobot within a Traptanium basket… sort of missing the point of the occasion.  But what he lacks in point-getting, he more than makes up for in “Eggsellence!”

PowerPunchPetVac

Power Punch Jet – Vac: Jet-Vac was the greatest, most daring flying ace in all of Windham.  He was given his magical wings when he was young, as was the tradition for all Air Barons.  But when his homeland was raided, he chose to sacrifice his wings to a young mother so she could fly her children to safety.  This act of nobility caught the attention of Master Eon, who sought out the young Air Baron and presented him with a gift – a powerful vacuum device that would allow him to soar through the skies once again. Jet-Vac accepted the gift with gratitude, and now daringly fights evil alongside the other Skylanders.

Skylanders-Earth-EasterBunny

Bunny Earth Trap:The Bunny Earth Trap is one of the most unique Traps of the bunch and features a cute bunny-themed design.

Creative Easter Basket Ideas

March 30, 2010 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

With Easter just around the corner, the creative folks at I See Me!, publishers of personalized books for children, have put together some fantastic ideas to help personalize a child’s Easter celebration to make him/her feel special.  Whether an Easter Egg Hunt or simply finding ways to personalize a child’s Easter Basket, busy moms everywhere love to add special touches that are simple and fun to make the Easter or Passover celebration more meaningful for a child.

Here are a few of suggestions:

  • Personalize a child’s Easer Basket by making sugar cookies decorated with the child’s name; add the names of your children to pencils, pens or small favorites; and give the child a plush bunny or duckling with a personalized hangtag.
  • Include the newest book by I See Me!, Who Loves Me?, and personalize the book with the names of people who love the child in the Easter basket.  For Easter, begin the book with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit loving the child. For Passover, begin the book with God loving the child. There is room to list up to six people who love the child.  The book is available at www.iseeme.com.
  • Personalize and Easter Egg Hunt using plastic eggs that open and include a loving message or poem to your child which will lead them to the next egg and finally to their Easter basket.
  • Tie a ribbon around each child’s door that intertwines around the house.  Have the child follow the ribbon to the end where they will find their personalized Easter Basket.

I See Me! Inc. creates high-quality personalized books that celebrate the uniqueness of each child.  The company’s goal is to build self-esteem in young children as they read these keepsake books.  For more information or to take a virtual tour of the books, including the newest Who Loves Me? book, visit www.ISeeMe.com .

Making Easter Baskets for a Good Cause!

March 19, 2010 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Hershey’s is asking people to “pay it forward” this Easter. They approached 20 bloggers through Collective Bias to use their products to create Easter baskets to donate to a charity. We all were very excited to do this and the whole family got involved in the planning, trip and execution of building the baskets. We ended up making two baskets that were donated to our local food bank. Check out this Whrrl story to see what I bought and how the baskets turned out:

Disney’s Family Fun Magazine Provides Easter Craft Fun!

March 17, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I recently was reading through the recent Disney Family Fun Magazine and noticed some very cool crafts that you can do with your families with very few items!

Crafts
  • Sheep Egg: Courtesy of hard-boiled eggs, vibrant egg dye, a cute pipe cleaner stand, and some glued-on details (paper ears, pom-pom nose, and so on), this critter is an Easter favorite.
  • Sock Hop: Make your own bunny beanbag and get some use from the single socks left behind.
  • Pop-up Eggs: Make your Easter extra festive with this 3-D paper egg. The secret to its look is colorful, accordion-folded paper strips.
  • Count the Days Till Easter: Save the eggs for dyeing, then use the carton to build anticipation for the bunny’s visit with this surprise recycled “calendar”.
  • Egg Pedestal: Display your finest blown egg on this easy-to-make stand.

Activities
  • The Great Egg Drop: Kids construct protective coverings around raw eggs before dropping onto a target below.  The goal is to hit the bull’s eye without breaking the eggs – making a little bit of a mess and a lot of fun memories!
  • Less Sugary Easter Egg Hunts: Fill plastic eggs with puzzle pieces to make Easter egg hunts more fun and less sugary.
  • A Kid-Friendlier Way to Dye Eggs: Put the eggs in wire whisks, and dip away!
