Fatherhood Friday – The Birds & The Bees With a 5 Year Old

April 17, 2015 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

Fatherhood-Friday

Last week we had a interesting question from Diva-J, “where do people come from Daddy?” We answered, a bit religiously, “God makes people” She replied, “no..no…no… I mean where do people come from” (she did truly emphasize these points). We were completely floored and had no clue that she would even want to know anything about the birds and the bees.

J-Mom and I just looked at each other and started to back peddle, as we had not thought to have an answer for this question yet for our eldest. So we used a stalling tactic that seems to work well, at least for now. We told her, “let us think about the best answer for this and we will get back to you.” She took this and hasn’t asked again, so I guess we dodged a bullet you may say.

So my question for all of you today is how have you dealt with this and how have you approached this discussion with your own children?

Dinner with Dad… Always an Adventure – Thoughts & a Giveaway

June 12, 2011 by dadofdivas

When you have kids you definitely have had had experiences that you will not forget. There have been many with me thus far and I know that there will be many to come as well. I was thinking about this the other day and I started to laugh when I thought about some of the funny experiences and realized that a number of these experiences revolved around the dinner table. There is just something about being at a dinner table that can the giggles flowing (at least at my house).

One of the funniest experiences that I can remember happened before we had our second child and my eldest and I were having dinner together. She had been playing hard all day and I knew that she was tired, but I still made her favorite dinner because I wanted to her to eat and then it would be off to bed. Things were going well, dinner was made and I served it up and we started to eat. Yet, soon into dinner I could tell that Diva-J was getting more and more tired, but she was eating. I went to the refrigerator for something quick and when I returned, I found my daughter sleeping in her spaghetti. I raised her head and tried to talk to her and then her head just fell forward yet again (this time I caught it). I just had to laugh out loud. Needless to say I ended up cleaning her up and getting her to bed, but all-in-all that made my night.

Looking back at this I realize that it is usually the small things that are memorable, conversations, jokes, words, rituals, all can make for an amazing family experience and life together. I love having time myself to spend with my kids alone and with J-Mom, but the times that I have by myself are even more special and ones that I treasure. When I speak to other fathers they too agree with me on this. What do you say? So take a moment this week and get out, or stay in, but take time with your kids and simply have fun!

Product Review – Funky Monkey Snacks

April 23, 2011 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I was recently asked to review some great new healthy snacks for all members of the family. Well… they really are being touted for kids (at least somewhat), but I have to say that J-Mom and I tried them and they could work for adults as well.

As I mentioned, Funky Monkey snacks are healthy snacks for kids and parents alike – they are gluten-free, sugar-free and preservative free – nothing but three servings of fruit in each bag.

I got to try some great flavors that Funky Monkey has: Applemon, Bananamon, Carnival Mix, & JiveALime. With the fact that the entire package is only 100 calories and that it is all natural, the snacks are perfect for those on the go and are a healthy alternative to chips or candy.

With young children in the house that are always looking for something sweet (or so it seems), I am excited about the possibility of giving my girls something that has some redeeming value to it.

In trying the snacks, all of the family tended to like them. Diva-J did not care for the Applemon, but I can tell you that the rest of us loved it. Also, the rest of the snacks were similarly enjoyed!

If these sounds good to you, you can find them for sale on Amazon. Check out Funky Monkey snacks today, your family will thank you!

The featured product in this post was provided to me free of charge. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by the company. Please refer to this site’s Terms of Use for more information.

    God Bless Us…Everyone! (Day 70)

December 26, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas and survived the holidays. We are in the midst of aftermath, but all-in-all, it was a very relaxing and happy day. We spent the beginning of the day with Nonna and moved on from there to spend it with J-Mom’s parents (Ama & Papa). Now we are decompressing and the kids are on overload, but are doing well as well. I hope that you all had a wonderful day and shared it with your family and friends!
