Why You Need to Start Taking Better Care of Your Health

January 11, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

You’ve probably heard plenty of talk about the importance of healthy eating, an active lifestyle, and other common wellness phrases, but it’s often too easy to dismiss this as not applying to you. However, men are just as likely, if not more, to experience serious health concerns in their lifetime, especially as they get older. Here are some reasons, and tips, for getting more pro-active with your health.

Routine health checks can prevent serious issues

It’s a cliché to say that most men won’t go to the doctor unless it’s something really serious, and even then, they’d rather wait it out and hope it resolves by itself. Often, this results from damaging ideals about what masculinity means, which can sadly end up with more men suffering from serious conditions that could have been prevented had they taken action sooner.

Aim to have more frequent checkups with your physician and dentist, particularly as you age. It’s a good idea to regularly review your blood levels and weight. Suppose you have a family history of disease such as diabetes, heart issues, or cancer. In that case, staying vigilant of any early symptoms may help you treat and prevent illnesses from getting worse.

Invest in your diet

The food you eat is one of the most important things that affect your health and wellbeing, and it’s essential to make sure you have a balanced, nutritious diet if you want to enjoy an active and enjoyable life. While there are many kinds of diets and fitness plans, promising the perfect way to eat, in reality, it is far less complicated.

Simply making sure that you have a good mix of fruit and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and a moderate amount of proteins and healthy fats can help you meet most of your nutritional needs. An additional multivitamin for men at NoorVitamins.com can also provide a helpful top up of essential nutrients that are needed for healthy functioning.

Pay attention to your mental health

As well as ignoring physical health issues, a large number of men will also ail to pay attention to mental health concerns. This can happen for a variety of reasons, most commonly, the fact that men are often expected to be tougher and more resilient to emotional issues. However, this attitude has led to a huge number of men experiencing serious mental health problems, with growing rates of depression, anxiety, and many other disorders.

If you are worried about experiencing mental health issues, don’t hesitate to address it with a physician, therapist, or counselor. There are several ways to find a solution that works best for you. Taking steps to improve it will not only benefit you but can also set a great example for others. Encouraging friends and male family members to speak more openly about their mental health can also help reduce stigma and help them to reach out for help more easily when they need it.

How to Use Your Diet to Improve Medical Treatment Symptoms

April 16, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

How to Use Your Diet to Improve Medical Treatment Symptoms

Side effects are a very common sight in the medical world. Medical treatment, after all, can be very harsh on the body as it attacks whatever inside you is causing you pain. It might be cancer, or a virus, or something entirely different. What remains the same is that your immune system and body are there to support you. It can only assist you well, however, when it has all the vitamins and nutrients that it needs to thrive. You need to run at full power when dealing with ongoing medical treatment symptoms, so to start you will want to:

Be Aware of the Symptoms in Advance

Go through with your doctor to determine what the symptoms of your treatment are, and what to expect. Your doctor cannot control how your body responds to specific procedures, for example. On the other hand, if you experience something out of the norm, then you need to know to get it rectified immediately. For instance, if you were misdiagnosed or otherwise experienced a form of negligence on behalf of the medical staff, your symptoms likely won’t be what you are expecting. The faster you know something is wrong, the faster you can get it fixed. Even after this fix, however, you will also want to find a firm that offers no win no fee medical negligence claims so that you can receive the financial compensation you need to pay for new treatments and move on past the trauma.

Work Out With Your Doctor How to Alleviate Those Symptoms

Before you start figuring out ways you can alleviate your symptoms at home on your own, it is best to consult a doctor or specialist. Tell them that you want to try non-medical options first to limit the number of side effects.

Switch Out Unhealthy Food to Healthy Food

One of the best ways to improve the symptoms of treatments like chemotherapy is through the power of good nutrition. Your body needs all the help it can get, but sometimes that help won’t come in the form of more medication, but through the vitamins and nutrients your body absorbs in any given day.

Drink Plenty of Liquids

If vomiting is common for you, it is vital you do all you can to stay hydrated. If you don’t, you could end up hurting your body even more, as vomiting particularly expulses a lot of hydration from your body.

Importance of Improving Your Baseline This Way

Your baseline health refers to the state of your health without the trauma of chemotherapy or other intensive ongoing treatment. Only when your baseline health is at its best can you manage symptoms well and know immediately when something is wrong. There are many adverse health issues to being dehydrated, for example, but ensuring you drink enough fluids can ease dehydration as a cause.

Whether you are undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, or just recovering from a particularly nasty cold, improving your diet is a great way to alleviate your symptoms and improve your recovery times.

What is your @ShareCareNow RealAge Test #RealAge

June 20, 2014 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

Seeing that I am less than a year away from hitting the big 40 I have really been trying to do what I can to be healthy. Eating right, exercising and working on my overall well-being has been more of a concern than it has ever been in the past.

Over the past few weeks I have really been working hard on working out daily and trying to limit going out for lunch, but I know there are probably other things that I can be doing to help me not only have more energy, but also increase my chances at prolonging my life too.

I recently was told about the RealAge Test and I was interested in seeing what it would share with me. I decided to try out the Share Care Now RealAge Test to see how old it said I was for myself.

The test was easy to answer and not too intrusive on my privacy. It took about 15 minutes in all and the overall results were interesting. It said that I was about 4.7 years younger than I am. The best part of the results was that it gives you ideas for where you are doing well, where you are not, and things that are making you younger and things that are making you older.

RealAge-Test

I encourage you to take the RealAge Test and see how old you really are.

2012 New Year, New Cocktails program by @Truvia Will Amaze You!

February 4, 2012 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I was asked recently to try and use Truvia to make some great new Cocktails for the new year. Seeing that I had not used Truvia much in the past I was interested to see what their recipes would taste like when using Truvia.

For me I tried out making the Hurricane as well as the Simple Syrup and I have to say that I was surprised to find how great the drink tasted as well as how easy it was to make. On top of the Hurricane I was happy to see how easy it was to make the simple syrup.  Going to the store and buying this you will pay at least $4.00 for a smaller bottle. You can save a ton of money by making your own (like you see below) and I have to say that I did not notice much difference in the overall flavor!

All-in-all these recipes were great and I will say that I was impressed to find how well Truvia works with the preparation of these drinks. If you are looking for a low calorie, great tasting alternative, look no  further than Truvia!

Take a look at the below twelve recipes and let me know what sounds good to you!

Bistro MD: Day 1

By; Jenna M Wood, Momma Told Me

The second day I awoke to prepare my breakfast; Spinach and Mushroom Omelet, the second day of mushrooms and eggs! After my first day, I had decided to utilize the convenience of microwaving my entrees for the remainder of the program. My microwave wattage tends to run low, so this works out to 8 minutes for me, while most will find 5-6 sufficient. Because Bistro MD has identified each entree from the exterior cardboard sleeve pulling my day’s entrees was quick and simple. On the front of each of the sleeves/jackets is an ingredient breakdown, chef’s serving suggestions, and Nutritional Facts grid. I noticed the breakfasts are particularly noted as such, for easy pulling.

My Bistro MD Chicken and Spinach and Mushroom Omelet was stuffed with fresh leaf spinach and sliced domestic mushrooms, covered in a generous blanket of smoked paprika Hollandaise. This breakfast also weighed in at just 240 calories; hard to believe with such a beautifully creamy Hollandaise. This egg was also surprisingly fluffy, and easy to cut with the edge of my fork. The moist wild mushrooms added a savory aroma the the dish. Alongside the omelet was a heaping portion of cubed sweet potatoes, a little blander than I would have liked, and more cooked than anticipated. I decided to add a dash of salt to them, and ended up only finishing 2/3 of my meal, stuffed by meals end!

For lunch was the new to me “Chicken with Grey and Pearl Pasta” weighing in at 300 calories, again. The entree’s sleeve described the chicken breast as a grilled ‘bone in’ breast of chicken, though there was no bone on my plate. This was accented by smooth, and elegant pearl pasta (which reminded me of cous cous), and a thin glaze like Chicken Jus Gravy. I must say this plate certainly rustled my taste buds- what a sight, and with ample Chicken Jus left over! If this is diet food, count me on a diet for life, because the taste was simply indulgent and wonderfully complex! By far, this dish has been my favorite so far.

For dinner that evening I enjoyed Apricot Glazed Pork Tenderloin, the first dish to actually appear dry when cooked. While the previous 5 entrees had actually shown signs of ample moisture (pools of liquid settles at the bottom of the trays), this one did not. Perhaps it would have been a better candidate for stove-top heating? Weighing in at just 270 calories, this meal kept my entree total at less than 1000 for the day, 1200 with snacks (BBQ Snack Bites and Chocolate Pudding Cup). Upon a bed of brown rice pilaf, 5 tenderloins sat, coated in a sweet apricot mustard glaze. A large component of this meal was also the addition of spinach, which BistroMd uses a lot. The spinach was moist and tender, and helped break down the slightly overcooked tenderloin. In all the flavor was fresh and decadent, but the protein did disappoint in texture.

Survey Finds Parents Concerned with Kids’ Understanding of Good Diet and Exercise Habits

June 4, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

New Survey Reveals 90% Fret Over Kids’ Diets, But Simple Steps Can Feed Good Habits From the Start

Families face many challenges today in staying healthy. But you’d be hard-pressed to find one that eats at moms more than this: getting family members, especially children, to consume better, more healthful foods.  In fact, according to a survey conducted by Country Crock®, 90% of parents are concerned about their children understanding the importance of healthy diet and exercise.
“With government initiatives and a new national focus aimed at improving family health, the challenge is even greater to find ways to instill healthy habits in family members starting at a young age,” said Ruth Carey, RD, CCSD and family nutritionist.  “The key is making small, simple changes that add up to a hugely positive impact on health and diet.”
The survey revealed a number of challenges parents face in getting their kids to eat better foods.
  • 69% of parents who want their families to eat a lot more healthy say they read nutrition labels all or some of the time, and more than 3 out of 4 parents (86%) are concerned about the amount of trans fat in their family’s food
  • More than half of the concerned parents (51%) say that the rising cost of healthy food choices is a deterrent for purchasing better options for their family
  • Picky eaters are a major hurdle among parents who are concerned about their children understanding the importance of healthy diet and exercise; nearly half (49%) find it challenging to get their kids to try new foods due to limited preferences
  • Outside pressures on children that encourage unhealthy eating (32%), and the negative influence of advertising and marketing of unhealthy foods (34%) add additional challenges for concerned parents to win the battle to serve better food options
The great concern among parents over their kids’ trans fat consumption and eating healthy isn’t surprising.  In fact, checking food labels for trans fat continues to be common among Americans as reported by the International Food Information Council Foundation’s 2009 Food & Health Survey, with 57% saying they use the information on the Nutrition Facts panel in 2009 compared to 49% in 2006. It’s also a concern shared by many food manufacturers today, and joining in this movement is Country Crock, which has completed the removal of partially hydrogenated oils from it soft spread products, and now boasts 0g per serving.  Plus it still has the same great taste, contains essential vitamins A, D and E, and has 70% less saturated fat and 30% fewer calories than butter.

Nutritious Eating, from Toddlerhood to Teens to Adulthood

The survey also found that eating patterns developed as children are likely to continue into adulthood. In fact, more than half of moms with children ages 5-12 (56%) are very concerned that their kids know about healthy diet and exercise patterns. This concern doesn’t dissipate drastically even as kids grow and become more independent, with 44% of parents still involved in ensuring healthy eating and exercise habits translate into the teen years (13-17).
In addition:
  • Parents are getting their kids involved in meal preparation from an early age (54% of kids ages 5-12) as a guidance tool to better eating habits. They are also actively teaching kids about the benefits of healthy eating at a young age (66%, 5-12) and continuing these practices into the teen years (60%, 13-17)
  • Good eating habits develop through years of teaching. More than half of respondents’ (51%) say that they eat more healthfully than their parents, and 51% expect their kids will eat even healthier than they do when they grow up
  • Some 47% of moms are consciously avoiding ingredients that they know are bad for their kids, but 94% of parents do agree that some fats are essential for a healthy diet
So which fats, exactly, are essential? Simply put, they’re the fats that we can’t live without. There are two types of fats the body can’t make; therefore it’s important that they be part of a balanced diet. These essential fats are omega-6 linoleic acid (omega-6 LA) and omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 ALA) polyunsaturated fatty acids – and they are found in every tub of Country Crock, as well as other foods such as fish and walnuts.

Book Review & Giveaway – Fat To Skinny

January 20, 2010 by dadofdivas 16 Comments

About the Book

Doug Varrieur lost more than 100 pounds…and kept it off, by identifying and eliminating the enemy: Sugar! Now he reveals his proven plan for going from fat to skinny—easily, effortlessly, and quickly.
Varrieur explains why sugar is lethal to both our waist and our health, the different types of sugars found in foods; and the various sources of sugar that we unwittingly take into our bodies. Anyone who thinks desserts are the sole culprits will be surprised when Varrieur reveals the sugar content of some typical meals.
Most important, dieters will learn how to wean themselves off sugar and carbs and “eat themselves skinny” with recipes for flavorful dishes such as Chicken Cacciatore with Spaghetti Squash, Baked Shrimp with Crabmeat Stuffing, Roast Cajun Pork Loin with Creamed Spinach Alfredo with Mushrooms, Strawberry Shortcakes, Crêpes, and more!
The book is so simply written and easy to understand, anyone can follow Varrieur’s formula for success—and become the next “biggest loser.”

My Take On The Book
Though I am not the type of person that needs to be on a diet (at least not at this point), I am always looking for ways to eat and live healthily. This book is full of great resources that help you to better understand the power that sugars and starches have on our lives as well as what these can do to our overall ability to lose weight.

The book also is full of great recipes that will help you change the way that you think about food.

Overall, the book itself is easy to read and very simplistic. Anyone, and I mean anyone will gain a lot from what this book has to say and the results in the author alone are testimony enough. If you need more proof, take a look at the website of the book as it also is full of testimonies.

So if you are trying to lose some weight or you are just trying to live better, check out this book for a new way to look at food and a new way to control your diet.

Product Review & Giveaway – Gain Some Fiber in through eating Gummies!

    December 30, 2009 by dadofdivas 26 Comments

    About the Product
In 2009 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) significantly increased the recommended daily fiber intake standards, far above the previous “age plus five” rule. In fact, today’s updated guidelines recommend 25 grams of fiber per day for four-year-old children. But how do we meet these requirements and get our children to eat high in fiber foods? … especially with the holidays around the corner and busy schedules kicking into gear.

Now there’s a delicious daily fiber supplement to help kids ages 2-11 maintain better digestive health and stay regular.* The penguin-shaped, great tasting Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies are sugar-free, calorie-free, gluten-free and made with natural fruit flavors. With a recommended serving of three gummies every day, (equal to ½ cup of broccoli!), Fiber Gummies are a great way to supplement the fiber found in fruits, vegetables and other fiberich foods in your child’s daily diet. It’s a great solution to help bridge the gap between the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended amount of fiber and the fiber that kids actually consume in their daily diet.  Don’t forget to tell your readers that Fiber Gummies are dentist approved J.

Suggested retail price is $7.99 for a bottle of 60 gummies; available at Target and Walgreens, also online and other supermarkets and retailers nationwide.
You can also visit www.fibergummies.com where they get a $1.00 off coupon and use the “store locator” to see where the product is sold in your area. And, because we know getting kids to eat foods high in fiber without complaint is a challenge faced by many moms the Web site also offers helpful tips on how to incorporate a high-fiber diet into a busy family’s lifestyle with tips for meal planning and easy-to-make recipes on the Web site, too.
Fiber Gummies is on Facebook, too!

    * This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

    My Take on the Product

I am always looking for ways to get more fiber in my and my kids’ diet. With the fact that most doctors will tell you to get about 25 grams of fiber a day, you have to eat quite a bit to get what you “need” for your body and for a health digestive system. Thus, this product sounded like a good one to me.

Also, I have been reading books like the Sneaky Chef to try and find ways to incorporate more health foods into my kids’ meals. Though I am trying these things I still know that at times they will not get everything they need on a daily basis. Thus, having a supplement that assists my child to get the needed fiber is something that I am willing to try and use.

The product itself states that by taking three gummies a day, a child is getting what is equal to 1/2 cup of broccoli per day. In each gummy alone a child is getting 2 grams of fiber, thus with chewing three per day they are on their way to the 25 grams recommended.

The gummies themselves are sugar free, but in tasting one myself (yes I did taste one), they still tasted good, and my daughter (Diva-J) liked them as well which is a good sign!

So if you are looking for a way to get your child to eat more fiber without giving them broccoli to eat, this is definitely one way to move in the right direction.

    Giveaway
How would you like to win some Fiber Gummies for yourself? I am giving away one of these to a lucky reader. The contest will run for one week and will end on January 6, 2009.

Book Review – Younger (Thinner) You Diet

    November 10, 2009 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

While I have never been much of a person who has to diet, I do try to eat right to do what I can now for a better tomorrow. This book takes a different stance to dieting. Instead of focusing on the food itself, this book examines how food affects the brain.

In doing research for this review, experts state that 98% of diets usually fail. The author of this book explains how healthy living and weight loss goes beyond the stomach, beyond calorie counting, and beyond exercise.

As the book states: Weight loss occurs in the brain.  Think about it – Every process in the body is governed by the brain’s electricity, so if the electricity from the brain is slowed down, chances are that metabolism will slow, memory will fail, hearts will strain.

Dr. Braverman teaches readers how to increase this electricity in the book to help increase weight loss, reverse the aging process, and fight diseases.

I was interested to find this book both easy to use as well as a great reference guide for any person looking to live healthier. It is packed with helpful hints, recipes and valuable foods that can jump start your body.
While the book does say that exercise alone is not the key to healthy living, he does go into exercises and what they do for the body. He provides some hints about successful exercising and how that can lead to a healthier life.
A large part of the book is set aside to talk about the new way to look at dieting as mentioned earlier. Dr. Braverman shows readers sample menus, recipes, spices, etc that all can work together to get your body where it needs to be. One of the hidden gems in the book can be found on page 141 where the author gives a list of 11 spice combinations that look wonderful! I cannot wait to try some of them out!

Overall this book is a must keep for anyone looking to get their life on a healthy track. I strongly recommend you check it out today. The book can be found over at Amazon.com.

The featured product in this post was provided to me free of charge by the author. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by the company. Please refer to this site’s Terms of Use for more information.
