My Take on the Book

This book did an amazing job at capturing the thoughts and feels that I attribute to being a father and watching my girls grow up. Each chapter and story within the book reminded me of how special each moment with my children are and that I need to revel and delight in each of these moments as they are fleeting.

The author reminds us that we must take the time to appreciate our time together and use these moments to both grow and learn about each other.  The book itself is a great testament for what fatherhood should be (or at least what I have come to find it should be)!

    My Take On The Book
    As a part of the award winning Chicken Soup for the Soul books, this book does a great job at continuing the tradition of great motivational and inspiring stories that readers have come to expect within these books.

    I enjoyed reading this collection of stories. As a person that has had many nutty family experiences, this book was full of some great stories! The stories contained within this book were humorous as well as fun, embarrassing and even strange!

    The stories were heartfelt and inspiring and I found that the different authors bring a great variety to the book itself. In reading the book I found that my favorites were:

    Mr. Lucky’s Magic Dust

    My Take on the Pillow Pet
    Like many of you your children may have seen and experienced the phenomena that is Pillow Pets. I know that our daughters heard about these wonders while watching Discovery Kids a (Yes, an educational show) and from that moment on, it was, can we get one, and “those are so cool”. So when I was offered a chance to have my girls try out these items, I was quite excited and knew my daughters would be as well. When it arrived, we opened up the box and let the kids close their eyes for a surprise and as you can see in the pictures, we were not surprised at the response. Utter joy, amazement and adoration of their new friend.

    The neat thing about the Pillow Pet was that they are easily transformed into both pet and then to Pillow and back again. You can even use the pet to store sleepover cloths (wrapped within) if you so choose. Our girls started sleeping on their Pillow Pet that night and the rest, as they say, is history.

    About the Music

    The O’Neill Brothers’ calming lullaby music has been given an A by Parenting magazine and was recently featured on TheBump.com. All of their lullaby music utilizes repetitive melodies, rhythms of 60 – 70 beats per minute and little instrumentation — elements common to the “Mozart Effect,” which has been proven to aid in development, and assist with memory learning and spatial reasoning.

    For help in developing some of the music on their lullaby CDs, The O’Neill Brothers consulted with music therapist Christina Ufer, MT-BC, who has developed pediatric music therapy programs for the Mayo Clinic, Eugenio Litta Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

    “Music can be an extremely powerful therapeutic tool, particularly with infants and toddlers,” Ufer says. “The O’Neill Brothers’ music is an excellent example of a style that really resonates with and calms children and their parents. I’ve used soothing lullaby music with my own patients, and I’ve seen it make a significant impact.”

    In addition to assisting with development, music has been shown to reduce blood pressure, heart rate and breathing rates, and reduce levels of stress, anxiety and fear. New research from the Tel Aviv Medical Center in Israel also indicates that the Mozart Effect is beneficial in helping premature babies get stronger, an added benefit that’s near and dear to the O’Neills’ hearts.

    My Take on the CD
    Filled with wonderful lulling music, this CD is an amazing collection of instrumental melodies that brings your family and your children towards a better understanding and appreciation of music.  I have enjoyed other music from the O’Neill brothers and this has continued my love for the music. The instrumental mix was one that brought together many of the best songs of the season!

    My Take on the Product

    I had seen Melissa and Doug wooden toys in the past and was always very impressed with the quality behind them. Even at our local bookstore that have a childrens section that has a ton of Melissa and Doug toys for kids to play with and our girls always tend to gravitate to them (or so it seems).  When I was offered the opportunity to review the above item, I thought it would be a great addition to the house, as I recently reviewed a cash register and thought, this would be a wonderful addition to this as well.

    When I received the store I was pleased to also see that Gummylump.com provided me with some food as well for the store itself (as it is sold separately). The stand itself was as high quality as I had seen in the past, and it was just the right size for my kids. It was easy to assemble (thank goodness) and I was impressed by how quickly it went up as well.

    Overall, I am sold on the Melissa and Doug items and I am also sold on Gummylump.com. The online store itself has such high quality items and their prices are very reasonable. The item I reviewed alone was on sale the last I looked at it, and who isn’t up for good deals!

This one-of-a-kind, kid’s remote control, from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, will debut this November 16th packed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey’s Number Roundup and Handy Manny: Big Construction Job.  The new “Mickey Mote” is a child-friendly handheld remote control, shaped like Mickey ears, that will take children’s viewing experience to a whole new level by providing an engaging interaction with their favorite Disney characters.  With multiple levels of play, the new Mickey Mote will provide hours of fun, engaging and challenging adventures for kids age 2-5.   The Mickey Mote is a value for moms and fun for kids!
    How It Works:
    The Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes Discovery Mode(tm), the interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD!  All parents have to do is program the remote control – there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD- and select the Discovery Mode feature on the menu screen.  Within minutes, kids will be easily responding to questions, throughout the story, about scenes they just watched (such as “What color is Goofy’s hat?”) by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device — a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses.  Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.

    My Take on the Product
    In trying this Mickey Mote I was impressed to see that Disney has developed something that helps a toddler to interact with the shows that they are watching. This Mickey Mote was a fun way to help young children to listen and then be able to answer questions about the show itself, so watching becomes active instead of passive.
    When we opened up the package, my youngest, Diva-PJ, was excited to try it out. We started with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD and we went through the process of syncing the new Mickey Mote with our DVD remote controller. It took a couple of times to complete the sync, but as we found, we needed to take it nice and slow and then it worked.
    When we went into the bonus features, we selected the one to try out the remote control. Diva-PJ was ready to try it out. She just loved trying it out and with our help made the right decisions. What we came to find was that it was easy to use. The only challenge that we found was that at times the remote would turn off between times when you were supposed to use it. You also need to be close enough to the DVD for the signal to be connected.
    As we got further into the DVD, Diva-PJ wanted to try another episode. We went into selecting the next episode, and were surprised to find that the episode did not connect into the Mickey Mote. However, the next day, when we went into the DVD again, it selected another episode so Diva-PJ was very excited.
    Overall, I was impressed with the Disney Mickey Mote, and Diva-PJ really loved the interactive nature of the show and the Disney Mickey Mote. If you are a Disney fan and like to have DVD’s that do not simply make your kids sit around, you should check this out!

    My Take on the Game
    As someone that never seems to have time for working out, this game was a fun reason to get fit. The game was fun and even from the very beginning you have so many choices on what you want to do. The game player has a nice three-dimensional opening that allows you to choose exercises. What was nice was that you had choices, from doing individual exercises to having the system itself putting together a routine. I liked the routine as it added to the variety and it didn’t get stale.

    Another thing that I liked about the game were the different backdrops that you could choose. This again made for additional variety and allowed you to keep it fresh.

    My Take on the Product

    I think super sipperz are awesome! The divas and I had a blast trying to develop architectural wonders that we could sip through. As my daughters simply love the idea of sipping through straws, showing them the video of this and the crazy things you could do with it, they were completely enthralled and of course wanted to start building immediately.

    This product is wonderful for a parent as it encourages creativity and imagination. I have to admit that we had a blast and so much fun together, and though J-Mom was a bit concerned about us making a mess, we found that as long as we had tight connections we had no leaks, but we did have fun!
