Thinking of Getting a Cat? All the Points You Should Consider

March 17, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

A new pet can be a welcome addition to any family, even one with small children and babies. Cats make fantastic family pets, but they are often overlooked, with preference given to dogs; but cats can give back so much affection and love that you will wish you had gotten one sooner. Of course, before rushing out and getting any pet there are some points you need to consider. Read on for more information.

Think About Where You Live

If you live in a busy, built-up area it is probably wise to get a house cat—one that will live indoors, and never venture outside; or if they do, they should not leave your perimeters/boundaries. Cats can be very streetwise but accidents do happen and you definitely don’t want to have to deal with a cat that has been involved in a road traffic accident. So, think about where you live and how you can keep a cat safe and protected from danger and harm.

Think About Your Family

If you have a young family would a kitten be ideal for you, or do you think you are more suited to an older cat? Kittens are fantastic bundles of energy and joy, but they can also be little troublemakers if you give them chance. Kittens require just as much time and care as a baby does, so if you have babies in your house a kitten is probably not the best pet to have around. Slightly older cats that can take themselves out of the way may be better suited to your family, providing you have an area for them to retreat to. Whether you choose a kitten or an adult cat you know your family and you know your wants and needs. Remember that kittens are playful and possibly easier to integrate, whereas older cats are more independent and less reliant on you for attention.

Be Mindful of Food and Vet Care Costs

Cat food costs money, especially if you end up with a fussy cat (more common than you think) that will only eat a certain brand or type of food. In addition to food you need to think about vet care for both now and as your cat gets older. You need a handy and convenient vets such as walkin vets Madison, AL, whereby you can get high-quality and affordable vet care even at short notice. As well as planning for emergency care and treatment it is also important to get your cat regularly checked over by a vet and it is just as important that they have regular boosters and immunizations, even if they are an indoor-only cat.

Consider a Rescue Cat

Before rushing out and spending money buying a cat from a breeder, think about getting a rescue cat. There are lots of kittens and cats all needing a good home and quite often they are purebred cats that are just no longer wanted anymore. Rescue cats and kittens can give you so much back, so don’t rule them out.

Four Things You Need Before Bringing a Kitten Home

October 26, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Bringing a Kitten Home

Getting a kitten can be an exciting time for any family. Kittens make adorable pets and are sure to become a firm friend for your children throughout their lives. However, just like any pet, your new kitten will need a number of essentials in order for them to thrive. A healthy kitten who has plenty of things to do is a happy kitten who will grow up to be a happy and satisfied cat. So, what are some of the essentials that you need to have ready before you bring your new furry friend home?

Litter Box

Most kittens will come with the knowledge of how to use the litter box so unlike puppies, you don’t usually need to provide them with any toilet training. They learn this from their mother when they are very young and see her using the litter box, so as long as you show the kitten where their toilet is, they should start going there with no problem. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that cats, in general, prefer to have a clean toilet – who wouldn’t? So, investing in a self-cleaning litter box is a great idea to make your life easier and ensure that your cat is happy. Read this article from Kitty Reporter to help you find the best self-cleaning litter box for your needs.

Scratch Posts

Kittens love to scratch – it’s just a normal part of growing up for them and part of being a cat. In fact, even adult cats need plenty of things that are suitable for scratching, but it’s even more essential for a kitten with their little needle claws. Providing your kitten with scratch posts and pads will help you train them early in their life to scratch something more suitable than your furniture or your hands and feet when they need to get their claws out. Place them strategically around your home so that your kitten always has one in reach.

Collar and ID Tag

While it’s a good idea to get your kitten microchipped by the vet as early as possible, you should also invest in a collar and ID tag. A bell collar designed for kittens is a great idea as they can be very mischievous and often get stuck in tight spots around the home where you might not be able to find them. Wearing a bell collar means that even if they end up hiding somewhere, it’ll be easier for you to figure out where they’ve gone. And, some kittens can be little masters of escape, so an ID tag is perfect for helping them get back to you safely if they manage to get out.

A Comfortable Bed

While many cats and kittens sniff at their bed and decide to sleep on your feet instead, providing your kitten with a space that they can call their own is essential. Cats tend to like being inside tight, warm spaces, so consider a cat igloo style bed that they can curl up in.

With the right essentials, you’re on your way to a happy experience with your precious new kitten.

Let’s Hear About Your Pet – It’s National Pet Month

April 21, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Pioneer Pet Big Max Water Fountain - Great For #Cats & #Dogs

Fewer things bring as much joy as a cuddly puppy, so we’re celebrating with National Pet Month! This holiday focuses on all the joys of puppyhood while also raising awareness for puppy mills and the influx of adoptable pups around the spring and summer. So, let’s celebrate the wonderful world of puppies this April and show the world just how great they are!

For my family we have had so many different pets. We are mostly a cat family and have had 6 cats together as a family, but along with that we have also had two rats, many fish and even two hermit crabs.

#shebacat #cbias

All of these pets engage us as a family in so many ways. We see our pets as true members of our family and we love them as such as well.

Having pets allow our kids to learn responsibility, but also the importance of taking care of someone besides themselves and also giving love to others.

Unfortunately, at times, it also makes you learn about loss as well, as there have been times when we have lost pets in our family as well, which is never easy.

All of this being said, if you are on the fence of having a pet within your home, I highly encourage the experience, not only because of the psychological aspects

Thanks for Top Agency for help with this post!

Smart Cat Bootsie’s Bunk Bed & Playroom – Tons of Fun For Cats!

June 14, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Smart Cat Bootsie's Bunk Bed & Playroom

This is my review of the Smart Cat Bootsie’s Bunk Bed & Playroom. This is fun for cats, and you will even get to see my cat’s initial impression!

This attractive unit combines your cat’s two favorite pastimes: playing and sleeping. After a vigorous workout batting toys in the gym, your cat can sack out on the top bunk for a restful nap or escape into a secluded, dual-entry hideaway. The handy roof accessory provides your cat with yet another healthy and popular feline activity -scratching.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR KITTENS.

Smart Cat Bootsie's Bunk Bed & Playroom

My Take on the Smart Cat Bootsie’s Bunk Bed & Playroom

I have two cats and they love to both relax and play. With this great product I found that they did not always want to use this together, but they did love laying on the top and underneath and even played with the toys every now and again. I was glad to have the toys and even more grateful that they screwed into the side of the product instead of simply being pushed into the product. The toys have a lot of give, so I believe that it should last for some time to come. The product was also so easy to put together. With the snap-lock system you can have this together in only a few minutes. After I got this together my cats came to check it out and have loved it ever since! Below you will see more of my thoughts on the Smart Cat Bootsie’s Bunk Bed & Playroom.

Pioneer Pet Big Max Water Fountain – Great For Cats & Dogs

June 14, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Pioneer Pet Big Max Water Fountain - Great For #Cats & #Dogs

This is my review of the Pioneer Pet Big Max Water Fountain that is great to use with your #cat or #dog. Easy to put together and use, this is one quiet pet fountain that really does an amazing job!

With its huge drinking area, the Big Max Drinking Fountain will suit most dogs or multiple cats.  Made from stainless steel, this pet fountain holds over a gallon of water.

Pioneer Pet Big Max Water Fountain - Great For #Cats & #DogsFeatures of the Pioneer Pet Big Max Pet Fountain

  • Circulating drinking water is naturally appealing to your pet
  • Replaceable charcoal filter for clean and pure, healthy water
  • Dishwasher Safe. Refer the user guide below for Pum Trouble shooting steps and Installation steps
  • 128 oz capacity. refer Troubleshooting guide for Product instruction
  • Modern design fits in any home décor

My Take On The Pioneer Pet Big Max Pet Fountain

We have needed a new pet fountain for some time and the new Pioneer Pet Big Max pet fountain was exactly what we were looking for. This fountain is larger than some we have had in the past but that does not mean that’s a bad thing. It holds a lot of water which makes it nice for not having to fill it all of the time. It also is SUPER QUIET, I mean you would not know it was running.

The fountain is made of stainless steel which means that it can be cleaned even in the dishwasher if you would like. The motor still needs to be opened up so that it can be thoroughly cleaned about once a month, but in looking at the motor and the instructions on how to do this I can tell that it does not seem to be too difficult of a task.

Pioneer Pet Big Max Water Fountain - Great For #Cats & #Dogs

So far I have been noting but impressed with this product and I think that you will be impressed as well! If you have a cat or dog, this pet fountain is a great one for you to try with your own pets!

See below for more of my thoughts on this great product!

A Dog’s Purpose – For Cats Too?

May 2, 2017 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

A Dog's Purpose Movie Night

You might think as a cat that I would hate dogs, well I don’t. I find them intriguing and while they may not be as calm as I am, I definitely see how loyal they are to their humans. I hate to admit it, but many of the dogs I know are even more loyal than I am my other furry felines can be. Ah well, that being said I still say cats rule, but dogs are not too bad.

A Dog's Purpose Movie Night

This weekend my humans seemed excited about some new movie that they had received. They decided to have a bit of a party celebrating dogs… well… I mean I was a bit put off by this at first, but I am always willing to put my feelings aside to go with the flow so I decided to give the movie, A Dog’s Purpose a try.

A Dog's Purpose Movie Night

We watched it, and I could tell my humans really liked the movie. It seemed though that this movie might have been a bit too soon after the death of my sister, Pepper. She had recently passed away and this movie seemed to make my humans’ eyes leak a bit, but I think in the end they were happy. Why do I say this, well even though their eyes did leak they also were laughing through the movie too.

A Dog's Purpose Movie Night

I heard my humans say that A Dog’s Purpose was based on a book by W. Bruce Cameron, but I do not believe they had read this themselves. They mentioned that you did not need to read the book to appreciate the movie. It seemed to me, as a cat, that even though this movie was made to appreciate the love for dogs, this really could also talk to the love that you give any pet.

Nature’s Logic Offers High Quality Dining for Cats

December 30, 2016 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Nature's Logic

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

As I get ready for the new year I cannot forget to make sure that I have not forgotten about my furry friends. Just like I make sure that I feed my wife and kids the best, I also like to make sure that our cats also have great food to eat.

Nature's Logic Nature's Logic

Recently I was introduced to a new cat food brand for me, Nature’s Logic. What I love about this brand is that Nature’s Logic is dedicated to offering diets that are made exclusively with whole foods and 100% natural ingredients. This mans that their foods:

  • Are free of common allergens and include no corn, wheat, rice, soy, potato, tapioca, peas, or sweet potatoes
  • Contain natural antioxidants from fruits and vegetables grown in the USA
  • Do not contain any man-made synthetic vitamins, minerals or amino acids, nor any genetically engineered fruits, veggies, nuts, grasses, or seeds
  • Have probiotics and enzymes that help increase nutrient absorption and aid in digestion
  • Are nutrient dense and highly digestible

Nature's Logic Nature's Logic

I tested out a few of their dry and wet food options with our three cats and I have to say that I am impressed by the high quality ingredients and also how well my cats loved this food! Just look below and you will see how much one of my cats loved the wet Nature’s Logic food.

This being said the dry food is also filled with just as great ingredients and I am seeing that I do not have to give as much food to the cats as they are getting full on less.

Nature's Logic Nature's Logic

All-in-all I have to say that Nature’s Logic really offers amazing food that your cats will love!

Pepper Goes Nuts For a Nine Lives Movie Night #CatHomeMovieNight #NineLivesInsiders

November 16, 2016 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Nine Lives Movie Night

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

MEOW! These humans of mine seems to always watch movies, but none of them ever seem to catch my eye. I would rather take a cat nap myself usually. It was different this weekend though. My humans were acting a bit crazier than usual, and I did not know that there was going to be some fun for my brother and I too. So my dad who calls himself the Dad of Divas told me that this movie was about a guy who gets turned into a cat to right some wrongs. Sounds like something all humans would learn from, especially my humans.

Nine Lives Movie Night

My humans always think we have it so easy, but it is not that easy to be a cat!

About Nine Lives

Tom Brand (Kevin Spacey) is a daredevil billionaire at the top of his game. His eponymous company FireBrand is nearing completion on its greatest achievement to date – the tallest skyscraper in the northern hemisphere. But Tom’s workaholic lifestyle has disconnected him from his family, particularly his beautiful wife Lara (Jennifer Garner) and his adoring daughter Rebecca (Malina Weissman).

Nine Lives Movie Night

Rebecca’s 11th birthday is here, and she wants the gift she wants every year, a cat. Tom hates cats, but he is without a gift and time is running out. His GPS directs him to a mystical pet store brimming with odd and exotic cats- where the store’s eccentric owner- Felix Perkins (Christopher Walken), presents him with a majestic tomcat, named Mr. Fuzzypants.

Nine Lives Movie Night

En route to present his daughter with her dream pet, a bizarre turn of events finds Tom trapped inside the body of Mr. Fuzzypants. Adopted by his own family, he begins to experience what life is truly like for the family pet, and as a cat, Tom begins to see his family and his life through a new and unexpected perspective. Meanwhile, his family adjusts to life with an odd and stubborn cat, and his son David (Robbie Amell), steps up in ways Tom never expected.

Nine Lives Movie Night

If any hope exists of returning to his family as the husband and father they deserve, Tom will have to learn why he has been placed in this peculiar situation and the great lengths he must go to earn back his human existence.

Nine Lives Movie Night

Peppers’ Thoughts on the Film

As I said I usually fall asleep during movies, but this was a fun one. I loved seeing the cats ruling the roost in this movie and as I said, that guy learned his lesson by walking a few steps in a cats’ pawprints. It was not just me, but my sister and brother and even my humans seemed to like the film too. They were laughing and had smiles on their faces throughout the movie which I guess is a good sign. I tend to be a action freak and this movie delivered. I loved all of the action and even though there were some dogs (BOO) in the film. I give the film two paws up! Watch this with your family for a great night together!

Disclosure: As a Fox Home Entertainment Insider I was sent the film, information and promotional products. As always all thoughts belong to Pepper and have not been influenced!

Evanger’s Cat Food Gives Your Cat Everything It Needs!

November 21, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Evangers Cat Food
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

I know over the last few months I have been talking more about my cats. We are definitely a cat family and we treat our cats as part of the family. As part of the family we take care of our cats, and part of that means regular vet visits, but that also means that we do what we have to to provide our cats with top notch food to maintain a healthy diet, fur, etc.

When it comes to quality cat food, I have continued to hear more and more lately about all of the amazing food that Evanger’s offers cats. I had never tried it until recently when Evanger’s sent me a wide array of items to try with my cats.

My cats can sometimes be a bit finicky, so I didn’t know whether they would like this, but when I saw all of the different varieties I was excited to give Evanger’s cat food a try.

Evangers Cat Food

What amazed me was that as soon as I opened the first can of Evanger’s my cats were all over me, they would not leave me alone. Once I dished up the food, the scarfed it down and wanted more. I think the reason that my cats like this food has to do a lot with the underlying mission of Evanger’s which is:

Our mission is to increase the quality and enjoyment of life of our companion pets through nutrition. To this day, Evanger’s remains just as committed to quality and innovation as ever, and continues to develop new products that will fit within its philosophy. We have proudly been independently owned for over 75 years, and because of this, continue to sell our products exclusively through independent neighborhood pet shops where quality and customer service are of the utmost importance.

I love that Evanger’s is the only family-owned and operated pet food cannery in the United States, and with the quality ingredients that they are placing in their cat food, I know that my cats are getting what they need to be healthy and happy for years to come.

Swiffer and BarkBox Help You Bring In Your Child’s First Pet!

November 20, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

As many of you know I have a few furry friends in my home and am a BIG advocate for pet adoption, especially from local animal shelters, as that is how we adopted all of our pets!
Part of being a new pet owner is that you have to deal with the additional cleaning that comes with them too. What is amazing is that recently @BarkBox and @Swiffer teamed up to make sure cleaning concerns are never an obstacle when it comes to your pets!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Through December, new pup parents who adopt from partnering shelters will get a free Welcome Home Kit packed with goodies and cleaning supplies. Because with any furry family member… #ShedHappens.
There are millions of animals in need of homes, so we have joined with Bark & Co. to help make the barriers to adoption – like the cleanup – less of a challenge. Together, Swiffer is providing 10,000 Welcome Home Kits to participating shelters across the country to show how easy it is to get a thorough clean in minutes so more families and children can experience the love of a first pet. Swiffer will also make a $50,000 total donation to distribute to select shelters nationwide this holiday season to support critical projects that will help more dogs find their fur-ever homes.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

In the Welcome Home Kit you will get a ton of great BarkBox goodies and Swiffer products including:
  • Coupon for a free Swiffer Sweeper Starter Kit
  • Swiffer Sweeper Dry Refill Kit
  • Swiffer Duster
  • coupon for a free Febreze product
  • Bark Toy
  • Bark Treat
  • Fresh Chicken Recipe Food Sample and Food Coupon
  • and a Welcome Home Guide featuring information from child development expert, Dr. Aubrey Fine, on the benefits of a pet for children and info from the Bark folks to make the adoption transition easier for pets.
Swiffer Swiffer
While we have cats, we know a ton of friends that have dogs, so for us it was easy to give this wonderful gift away. For us, we chose to give it to my own father, as they recently adopted a new dog and with the Thanksgiving Holiday coming up we wanted to give something to them. They loved it!
