Using Manwich Bourbon For A Great Summer BBQ Meal

June 30, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Kroger

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.

After just getting back from being in North Carolina and having BBQ, I felt compelled to do a little shopping myself to get into the BBQ spirit. I have not had a good BBQ Burger in a while and in going to my local Kroger I found that there was a brand new Manwich, Manwich Bourbon that was perfect for the burgers that I wanted to make (Manwich can also be made with chicken or pork).

Manwich Bourbon

We were having a few kids over to spend the night so to tide them over I also made sure to pick up a few Slim Jim Premium Sticks, as I knew that the kids would be hungry and we needed something to hold them over until I could pull the burgers off of the grill.

I do love to cook, especially on the grill. I also like to experiment a bit and in seeing the Manwich Bourbon I knew that this was a perfect time to experiment with this to make an amazing burger. It was not hard to create the burger itself. I used the below recipe to create the ultimate Manwich Bourbon Burger.

Manwich Bourbon Burger (Makes 6 burgers)

  • 2 lbs of ground round
  • 1 can of Manwich Bourbon
  • Breadcrumbs (use only if meat becomes too runny from sauce)
  • 6 Hamburger Buns

Manwich Bourbon

This was a very easy recipe as all you have to do is take the meat and slowly work in the Manwich Bourbon into the meat itself. Depending on how much meat you have will determine whether you need the entire can or not. You do not want the burger to be too runny. If you find that the burgers have become too runny, then add in breadcrumps into your burgers to soak up some of the sauce.

Once you have put together the burgers, you will want to allow them to sit in a freezer back to hold in the sauce for about an hour or so.

Once you are ready to make the burgers, take the out of the fridge, fire up the grill on low heat and cook slowly to taste.

The burgers also taste great with cheese, so pick out your favorite cheese and melt on the cheese while the burgers are still on the grill.

Manwich Bourbon

Biting into the burgers you will get to taste the great sweet and tangy flavor of the Manwich Bourbon BBQ Sloppy Joe Sauce. While Manwich has been around since the 1960’s this new flavor really kicks up the flavor even more. I also love that in an entire can you are only getting 180 calories (35 calories per serving).

I also have to say that the kids did love having the Slim Jim Premium Smoked Sticks as snacks. They have tried these snack sticks in the past but we usually get the smaller sticks so having the larger sticks was definitely a treat! What I love about these premium smoked sticks is that each stick is grass-fed 100% beef or 100% premium pork, always raised without hormones, and with no artificial colors or flavors, and no added MSG. Also, each serving contains at least 10 grams of protein.

While I was at the store I found a few varieties available, but I chose to select The Smokehouse Original stick contains brown sugar and soy sauce, combining for a sweet and savory experience with a hint of spice (100% Grassfed Beef, 10g Protein).

It’s Fall and That Means Finding a Great Burger at Applebee’s

October 9, 2017 by dadofdivas 4 Comments

Fireball Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's

Leaves are falling, kids are in activities like soccer and school is back in session. On top of this, football is back and you can feel the tension in the air when it is game day. I know for me, having ways to bring my family together while eating some great food is always a ton of fun! I am also a HUGE fan of finding a great burger (as this is a comfort food for me) and every time I go to Applebee’s I continue to find amazing burgers available there. If you have never gone to Applebee’s you should, and when you are there, not only will you be surrounded by some great sports action, but the food is remarkable too.

Applebee's

As I was thinking about the burgers that I have eaten at Applebee’s in the past, I found out some very things about Applebee’s burgers. Did you know:

shredded BBQ brisket, fresh jalapeños, Cheddar and signature grill sauce.
    • The Triple Bacon: Bacon seared into an all-beef patty and topped with bacon, Cheddar
      and BBQ bacon ranch.
    • NEW Whisky Bacon Burger: Fried caramelized onions and applewood smoked bacon
seared into an all-beef patty and topped with Fireball® Whisky-infused steak sauce,
applewood smoked bacon, crispy onions, and pepper jack cheese.
    • NEW Caprese Mozzarella Burger: Sautéed garlic and onions seared into an all-beef
patty and topped with balsamic aioli, grilled tomatoes, grilled red onions, fresh
mozzarella, and fresh basil. Served with classic fries.
    • Quesadilla Burger: Mexi-ranch sauce, bacon, pico de gallo & shredded lettuce in a Jack
      & cheddar quesadilla.

Applebee's

We love to eat at Applebee’s! Applebee’s is one of the world’s largest casual dining brands, and amazingly there are nearly 1,800 Applebee’s. There are even franchise restaurants in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and 14 other countries. We love the lively casual dining experience which combines simple, craveable American fare, classic drinks and local drafts and allows families to come in and know that they will have a family friendly experience.

About the Book

Wicked Good Burger ain’t your daddy’s patty on a bun. The upstart Yankee team that revolutionized barbecue with their upset win at the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational turns their talents to burgers. Wicked Good Burgers fearlessly incorporates new techniques, inspirations, and ingredients to take the burger to the next level – whether it’s the Meatloaf Burger on Pretzel Bread with Cabernet Mustard or the Island Creek Burger with Oysters and homemade cocktail sauce. You’ll learn the art and science of freshly grinding meats – from beef to lamb to goat – for the ultimate juicy burger as well as cooking methods such as smoking, grilling, griddling, and sous vide that impart distinctive flavor.

My Take on the Book

So what is your favorite kind of burger to prepare and serve? Do you like beef, pork, turkey, duck, goat, beet, salmon, or portabello burgers? What kind of sauce or bun do you use? Have you ever enjoyed a dessert burger?
This cookbook is full of delicious looking burgers of all kinds. You will receive information on shaping and cooking burgers. There are all kinds of sauces you can make using the recipes in this book. Do you like toppings too? Well, one topping was called “pig candy”. “Pig candy” is bacon that is cooked in maple syrup, brown sugar and cayenne pepper.
There are entries for different kinds of fries, onion rings, and potato chips. The reader can also make the perfect frappe, smoothie, or ice cream float. And the recipe for the dessert burger is a pistachio -gelato burger on a brioche bun.
The authors included excellent directions with each recipe and mouthwatering photographs of the finished product. This is a very creative book on burgers!
