I have partnered with Life of Dad and Cheerios for this campaign, but my words and opinions are my own.
Time is fleeting so bonding with your kids is critical, especially at an early age. It seems just yesterday that I was holding my newborn in my arms and now my girls are 12 and 8. Where did the time go? People tell you to cherish the time that you have with your kids while they are young and it is so true. This is why I have worked hard to try to be an engaged father from the moment that they were born. This has not always been easy, but it is important none-the-less. Thus, finding ways for bonding to occur between you and them is something that have to make happen.
As a working dad I find that finding and making the time to be as engaged as I want is sometimes hard. You work hard all day and the time that you have with the kids is focused into only a few hours at night and some of that time is taken away by their activities. While I know this is the case, I work hard to try and do my best to find ways to create bonding moments with my girls doing things that both I, and they enjoy participating within. Now I cannot lie, I am not always at my best and sometimes I do not have the energy I need to make this happen, but I try my best and that is all that a father can ask of himself, or that is what I tell myself.
How do we bond, well, to be honest, there have been many ways over the years. We have bonded through activities such as playing board games, video games, coloring, building LEGO sets and more. We have bonded through physical activities, such as Geocaching, hiking, biking or even jogging or playing soccer or basketball. We even have bonded through reading, spending time individually and having them read to me and me to them. Finally we bond by sharing meals together. We try and eat together at breakfast and dinner and this helps us refocus and reconnect.
During breakfast recently, as we ate some of the new Very Berry Cheerios we started talking about all of the fun things that we have done together and they came up with a fun idea (they know I like to make videos for the blog and they were having some friends over to spend the night). And guess what we came up with… Check out the below videos for a little fun and their take on some promo. This is another way that bonding with the kids can happen while still staying connected to some of the work that I do as well.
On a side note I will say that we really did love the new Very Berry Cherrios. My kids love berries and the new flavor was amazing! It really gives your Cherrios a flavor that you will not forget!
Whether you are like me and try to find bonding opportunities in almost all activities or if you focus your efforts in certain ways, the key here is that you are making the effort, I do highly recommend that if you are not doing it yet, bonding with your kids over meals makes a BIG difference. If you have a chance check out the new Very Berry Cherrios for yourself too, and let me know what you think!

About Very Berry Cherrios
Loved by parents. Smashed by kids. Berries are messy. Berries are beautiful. Berries are delicious, playful, colorful, delightful, and have silly names. Like Straw, Blue, Ras, and Snozz. Berries should be EVERYWHERE. That’s why we’re making Very Berry Cheerios, so you can have the taste of berries in every bite, wherever that bite may be.
