Top Ways to Breathe New Life Into Your Old Car

Top Ways to Breathe New Life Into Your Old Car

Everyone loves to be able to go out and buy a new car after they have clocked up a few thousand miles, however, for most of us, financially this is not realistic and so we need to come up with other ways to improve our current ride. Here, I am taking you through some of our top ways to breathe new life into your old car and save yourself a tonne of cash along the way.

New Tyres

One of the easiest ways that you can breathe some new life into your old car is to get a new set of tyres for it. While you may be thinking that this type of investment is a little boring, if you don’t have a good grip from top quality rubber then all other power and performance upgrades will go to waste! So, make sure you start off by firsts getting yourself a new set of tyres.

New Spark Plugs

When you are improving your car, many people tend to overlook getting spark plugs, but this is a mistake. New spark plugs are affordable and can make a big difference. The higher quality the spark plug is, the better your combustion will be. This then means that you can look forward to more power and better fuel economy.

Performance Exhaust

If you are driving an older car, it will most likely be a cheaper exhaust system in place, so it is a good idea to look at changing this for a performance exhaust as this can free some of the power in your engine. This will allow for a quicker path for exhaust gases to escape from, allowing your engine to breathe better and give you more power.

Engine Control Unit Flash

Did you know that many manufacturers program the engine control unit parameters to below the car’s capability? They do this for it to act as a safety net, but if you reprogramme it you can unlock lots of engine performance and even better gas mileage.

Install a Cold Air Intake

If you want to make your car run better, then you will need to make sure that it can really breathe. This is where the cold air intake comes in! This device will free up the air flow to your engine but not only that, it will also feed the cooler more condensed air and this is exactly what your engine loves!

Install New Bushings

Installing new bushings is not as easy a process, but it is definitely well worth the extra time and effort! If you are unfamiliar with what bushings are, they can be found between the suspension and frame and the engine and chassis of your car. These rubber bushings are designed to help kill the vibrations in your car, but in older cars they can tend to wear out and crack over time. We would recommend that you opt for polyurethane bushings as these can last a whole lot longer than standard rubber bushings and they will also do a great job of quelling vibrations and minimising weight transfer.

Great Gas Mileage For Commuting & More With The 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

When you are looking for a vehicle that is affordable but has a lot of technology on it the 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.4 SEL AWC  may be one that you want to consider.

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

For the past week I tested out the 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer. I will start by saying that I was very impressed by the cost effectiveness of the vehicle in general, as at just over $24,400, this is a much more affordable option for many. This vehicle is a great car for commuters in my opinion as you are getting some solid gas mileage with 23 in the city and 30 on the highway for an average of 26 MPG. This is definitely something that I am looking for when I think of cars for my drive to work. With about a 50 mile round trip daily, I do look for cars that can save some money on gas and this will do just that.

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

The Mitsubishi Lancer does not have all of the bells and whistles that some have but this is something that keeps the cost low too. The car is comfortable and handles well. I found that it is a little smaller than some, but four or five people can still fit in it without a problem.

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

The car has a ton of safety features that are included with the price as well which is something that any father is concerned about. I have no concerns about my family riding in this vehicle and being safe no matter where we go.

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

Check out a few more of my thoughts on the Mitsubishi Lancer below!

The @Progressive Snapshot Test Drive Program Saves You Money #TrySnapshot

October 1, 2012 by dadofdivas 31 Comments

Over the past month I’ve had the opportunity to try Progressive Insurance’s Snapshot Test Drive Program.  This the program is one that allows you to get a better understanding of where your money is going and where you might be able to save money based on how you drive.

When I first received the unit was a bit surprised at how small it was and then going through the website for this I was able to find my car and instructions about how to install the unit itself.

Once installed, the unit was fun to use, and every time I start my car you’d hear the little beep of the unit warming up. At the same you also have to be careful if you do something wrong you get a bit of blaring beeps sent at you as well (though some of the time I did not think that they should have been going off).

As time went on I follow my progress to see how I was doing and after a month I was able to see exactly what I was doing right, and where I can improve in my driving.

What I really like about this program was that at the end of the month I could have Progressive take this information and give me a quote based on how I drive. I also could put in more information about my current insurance provider and have them provide an apples to apples comparison.

I came to find that I could see the little money they went with Progressive in the end, and it was nice way to comparison shop.
