Michigan’s Adventure – Fun For The Whole Family!

June 23, 2017 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Michigan's Adventure photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

This past Sunday I was able to celebrate fathers day by having the opportunity to take my family to Michigan’s Adventure, an amusement park in Muskegon Michigan. This is a park that is run by Cedar Fair, the same company that runs parks that I grew up with such as Kings Island and Cedar Point. I grew up going to both of the latter parks, especially Cedar Point, and we love to visit this park every summer, its’ become a family tradition!

Michigan's Adventure

One nice thing is that Michigan’s Adventure is affordable and you get two parks in one. There are options for regular admissions, but also ones that will offer you a “fast pass” to get to the front of some of the popular rides. With prices starting at $32.00 this is very reasonable for all that you get. The fast pass starts at $67 per person, but I will tell you for the day that we visited there were definitely times when a fast pass would have been handy as we did have to wait and there were some lines we simply chose not to stand in as they were longer.

Michigan's Adventure

We always seem to start our day at Michigan’s Adventure with Zack Zoomer and the other rides on that side of the park as the kids like to work up their courage for larger coasters! Both of my girls were excited to ride more rides this year and my oldest was willing to ride all of the roller-coasters! One tip that we learned from another guest was to visit the front of the park where you can reserve lockers to have your child get measured and get a band with their height listed as then they will not need to be measured for the most part for the rest of the day. While my kids were tall enough that they did not need to be measured this was still a great resource.

Michigan's Adventure

In walking around the park I loved that it was a bit of a slower day, being a holiday as we could get right onto the rides with very little wait! There were so many rides to choose from. With over 60 rides and attractions to select from you can get your thrill on if you like or relax on slower speed rides too. There are great roller coasters like the Thunderhawk and Shivering Timbers, or Thrill Rides like Grand Rapids or HydroBlaster. If slower speeds are for you, the Family Rides like the Grand Carousel or Timbertown Railway will be perfect. And don’t forget to stop by Funland Farm but be careful of the Llama, as one of them spit at me while I was there, talk about a fathers day gift!

You also can’t forget to bring your bathing suits. It was a cool day the day that we went, but there were still a ton of people using the great water attractions. Also, coming soon to WildWater Adventure is a totally revamped Half Pint Paradise which means all new equipment including seven new kiddie slides. A new Splash Pad will offer a variety of interactive water play features shaped to reflect a sailboat navigating through fish, a sea serpent, and other sea creatures to stimulate the imagination of our littlest thrill seekers. Dumping water structures and bubbling geysers surround the features and make playtime exciting to the delight and engagement of younger park goers.

The Beach Party and Half Pint Paradise areas were also reconfigured so guests can move easily between the two family play areas with improved visibility. This will offer families with small thrill seekers the opportunity to concentrate their fun into an area designed just for them. Additional seating with shaded areas, plus private cabanas offer both relaxation and comfort for families seeking summertime fun!

Michigan's Adventure

My family had a great experience going to Michigan’s Adventure and for us, the combination of two parks in one was perfect. This park had a perfect amount of rides and we found that we were able to ride almost all of the rides during the day, and then we still had enough time to be able to go to the water park side of the park itself. While we could have used more time here we still had a ton of time and I know my kids would have spent even more time at this side of the park if we could have had more time, and if we had remembered to bring towels (you do need to remember this!).

Michigan's Adventure

We are sold on this park and my kids are already asking when we can go back again. While I don’t know the answer to that, I will say that the price is pretty reasonable at only $32 for a one day pass. The price is even better if you get a 2-day pass or if you buy multiple tickets. They even offer a season pass for only $99.00. When you look at the prices of most Amusement Parks this is a steal, and if I lived closer I know that this would definitely be something that I would take advantage of! I highly recommend this park to all families – you and your whole family will have a blast together and you will leave wanting to come back for more!

Michigan’s Adventure – A Thrill For The Whole Family

Michigan’s Adventure – A Thrill For The Whole Family

Living in Michigan there is a ton to see and do but sometimes with kids you need to get your thrill on and Michigan’s Adventure and WildWater Adventure gives you just that opportunity!

Michigans Adventure

Living just outside of Lansing, Michigan, the nice thing about Michigan’s Adventure is that it is only a little more than two hours away from us, so being able to get up in the morning and then heading over without getting up too early is still possible. We visited Michigan’s Adventure this year on a Saturday and the hours were from 11AM to 10PM. Seeing that they opened a little later in the morning we had some time which allowed the kids to sleep longer than usual. We got on the road and it was a very easy ride, for us all on highways. Once we got to the park, we found that there actually were quite a few people already there even though it was only 11AM (which was surprising).

Michigans Adventure

Michigan’s Adventure does offer a few options as it comes to admissions. There are options for regular admissions, but also ones that will offer you a “fast pass” to get to the front of some of the popular rides. With prices starting at $33.00 this is very reasonable for all that you get. The fast pass starts at $68 per person, but I will tell you for the day that we visited there were definitely times when a fast pass would have been handy as we did have to wait and there were some lines we simply chose not to stand in as they were longer.

Michigans Adventure

The park itself was fun as there were rides for all ages and with the mix of amusement rides and water park rides you can really break up the day. We ended up trying to use the first half of the day, when it was cooler, to do the amusement park and then transitioned to the water park. This worked out well for our family and while we could have spent numerous more hours in the park we definitely felt that we got our time out of the park. We also found that by mid-afternoon many of the lines on the rides had gone down tremendously, much of which was because they had transitioned over to WildWater Adventure.

Michigans Adventure

There were some new things in the past since the last time we were here. On of the things that my youngest daughter loved was the new Funland Farm where you can get up close and personal with some very cool animals. She loved being able to pet a Llama and a deer among other animals too! On top of this there were some other great new things and I found that looking at this list of 100 reasons to visit this great park!

Michigans Adventure

We had a blast at the park and really jumped into the roller coasters. We loved the Cork Screw but also found that with rides like Shivering Timbers, Thunderhawk, and Wolverine Wildcat you can definitely get your thrill on and you will be coming back for more and more, or at least we were!

Michigans AdventureThere were smaller roller coasters too like Zach’s Zoomer which was also a family favorite. As you can see Michigan’s Adventure is truly a place where you can have a family vacation if you so choose. To be honest we would be considering a family season pass if we lived closer!

Michigans Adventure

I would be remiss to not talk about WildWater Adventure – This is Michigan Adventure’s incredible water park, which features thrills and fun activities for all including Beach Party, Boogie Beach, Cabana Rentals, and more!

My kids loved all of the waterslides and it was like pulling teeth getting them out of the wave pool. The nice thing was that WildWater Adventure is spread out so that you don’t have to feel that you are on top of many other people. With three wave pools, if one is full of people you can go to another and find that there is much more room for you and your family.

We had an amazing day and we are already talking about whether we could fit in another visit again this summer. If you have never visited Michigan’s Adventure in the past, you should definitely make a visit. You and your family will not be disappointed, I know my family wasn’t!

Michigan’s Adventure – Two Great Amusement Parks in One

This past Sunday I was able to have the opportunity to take my family to Michigan’s Adventure, an amusement park in Muskegon Michigan. This is a park that is run by Cedar Fair, the same company that runs parks that I grew up with such as Kings Island and Cedar Point. I grew up going to both of the latter parks, especially Cedar Point, so I was excited to be able to share an experience like this with my girls as they have not been to a park like this in the past.

In attending the day we were a bit concerned at first about the weather as we were told that there was at least a 50-60% chance of rain in the afternoon. When we arrived there was next to noone there (I think the weather may have scared some people off), which ended up being to our benefit which also meant there was next to no lines in the park all day on rides, and there were times on roller coasters when Diva-J and I jumped on the ride all by ourselves (talk about crazy).

The park is split into two parks, the amusement rides as well as the water rides, and I am pleased to say that we were able to try both, even with sporadic short bursts of rain that interrupted the afternoon.

We started the day with Amusement Rides, and I was happy to find that there were many rides that Diva-PJ could ride at the offset, even including some roller coasters, which she really wanted to ride. The park guide itself was a great help in letting you know how tall you needed to be to ride the rides. One tip that we learned from another guest was to visit the front of the park where you can reserve lockers to have your child get measured and get a band with their height listed as then they will not need to be measured for the most part for the rest of the day. There were a few times when they were still measured, but all-in-all, this cut back the number of times drastically.

This park has a number of amusement park rides for every type of thrill seeker. From the mild rides like swan boats to extreme roller coasters like Shivering Timbers, you can choose your poison for the day. Diva-J and I rode all of the roller coasters (5 in all) and some multiple times. The roughest ride for me was Shivering Timbers. While this definitely had the largest drops, you also get shook up on this wooden monstrosity. I ended up leaving with a bit of a headache, but Diva-J was asking for another ride even though it was raining when we got off the ride.

Above was the mad mouse and this had some harrowing turns but all in great fun! You can see on our faces how much fun we were having here.

After riding a ton of rides we were getting hungry and while there were a ton of places where we could have eaten, we were given the opportunity to try out the family grill which is almost like a large backyard BBQ with food like, hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, beans, dessert and a drink – and did I mention it was all you can eat. All of this was for about just less than $11/person for 6+ and about $5 for ages 3-6. The food was very good and though the line was long, it was worth the wait and it definitely filled my stomach.

After eating we decided to go over and try out Grand Rapids. We said to ourselves, how wet could we really get on one ride. Let me tell you, this was a naive sentiment and I wish that I had changed into my bathing suit prior to the ride because you definitely get soaked. Only a few minutes into this ride my daughter Diva-PJ and I went under the first of the waterfalls and there was not an inch of us that was not wet. Luckily most of us had bathing suits (all except my father-in-law), and after the ride we paid to get into the family dryer, but for only 3 minutes you really do not get four people that dry. Even though we got soaked we still had fun on the ride. After the fact we hear that my wife and mother-in-law were looking for quarters to try and fire off geysers at us, luckily they did not find any!

After getting soaked on this ride my daughters and I changed into our bathing suits to try out the water park. I went on a number of the rides, but my favorite had to have been the Funnel of Fear. This was an extra-fun ride that shot you down a HUGE funnel after coming down a very dark tube. Let me tell you, if you are coming out of the tube going backwards, you definitely are in for a surprise and a drop. The worst part of that ride was carrying the tube from bottom to top as the tubes are a bit heavy, but the payoff is VERY worth it. Diva-J went down a number of the other slides and had a blast in these as well, and who wouldn’t love the lazy river or the wave pool. This water park had a bit of everything!
