This past Sunday I was able to celebrate fathers day by having the opportunity to take my family to Michigan’s Adventure, an amusement park in Muskegon Michigan. This is a park that is run by Cedar Fair, the same company that runs parks that I grew up with such as Kings Island and Cedar Point. I grew up going to both of the latter parks, especially Cedar Point, and we love to visit this park every summer, its’ become a family tradition!
One nice thing is that Michigan’s Adventure is affordable and you get two parks in one. There are options for regular admissions, but also ones that will offer you a “fast pass” to get to the front of some of the popular rides. With prices starting at $32.00 this is very reasonable for all that you get. The fast pass starts at $67 per person, but I will tell you for the day that we visited there were definitely times when a fast pass would have been handy as we did have to wait and there were some lines we simply chose not to stand in as they were longer.
We always seem to start our day at Michigan’s Adventure with Zack Zoomer and the other rides on that side of the park as the kids like to work up their courage for larger coasters! Both of my girls were excited to ride more rides this year and my oldest was willing to ride all of the roller-coasters! One tip that we learned from another guest was to visit the front of the park where you can reserve lockers to have your child get measured and get a band with their height listed as then they will not need to be measured for the most part for the rest of the day. While my kids were tall enough that they did not need to be measured this was still a great resource.
In walking around the park I loved that it was a bit of a slower day, being a holiday as we could get right onto the rides with very little wait! There were so many rides to choose from. With over 60 rides and attractions to select from you can get your thrill on if you like or relax on slower speed rides too. There are great roller coasters like the Thunderhawk and Shivering Timbers, or Thrill Rides like Grand Rapids or HydroBlaster. If slower speeds are for you, the Family Rides like the Grand Carousel or Timbertown Railway will be perfect. And don’t forget to stop by Funland Farm but be careful of the Llama, as one of them spit at me while I was there, talk about a fathers day gift!
You also can’t forget to bring your bathing suits. It was a cool day the day that we went, but there were still a ton of people using the great water attractions. Also, coming soon to WildWater Adventure is a totally revamped Half Pint Paradise which means all new equipment including seven new kiddie slides. A new Splash Pad will offer a variety of interactive water play features shaped to reflect a sailboat navigating through fish, a sea serpent, and other sea creatures to stimulate the imagination of our littlest thrill seekers. Dumping water structures and bubbling geysers surround the features and make playtime exciting to the delight and engagement of younger park goers.
The Beach Party and Half Pint Paradise areas were also reconfigured so guests can move easily between the two family play areas with improved visibility. This will offer families with small thrill seekers the opportunity to concentrate their fun into an area designed just for them. Additional seating with shaded areas, plus private cabanas offer both relaxation and comfort for families seeking summertime fun!
My family had a great experience going to Michigan’s Adventure and for us, the combination of two parks in one was perfect. This park had a perfect amount of rides and we found that we were able to ride almost all of the rides during the day, and then we still had enough time to be able to go to the water park side of the park itself. While we could have used more time here we still had a ton of time and I know my kids would have spent even more time at this side of the park if we could have had more time, and if we had remembered to bring towels (you do need to remember this!).
We are sold on this park and my kids are already asking when we can go back again. While I don’t know the answer to that, I will say that the price is pretty reasonable at only $32 for a one day pass. The price is even better if you get a 2-day pass or if you buy multiple tickets. They even offer a season pass for only $99.00. When you look at the prices of most Amusement Parks this is a steal, and if I lived closer I know that this would definitely be something that I would take advantage of! I highly recommend this park to all families – you and your whole family will have a blast together and you will leave wanting to come back for more!
