Parents have a new easy way to manage teens shopping with Amazon

November 7, 2017 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Amazon for Teens

This post is brought to you by Amazon and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.

Amazon has introduced a convenient way for teens ages 13 through 17 years old to shop on Amazon. With their own login, teens can use the Amazon App anytime and anywhere they want. Parents can approve all orders or set pre-approved spending limits – offering teens a customized amount of autonomy that can change and grow as they do. Learn more and sign-up at amazon.com/forteens.

I have a daughter that loves to shop and there have been times in the past when she has ordered things without me knowing and that tends to be a big problem, especially when she has used my account without permission. Now, teens can have their own Amazon login, and I can be assured that orders she makes will have to be approved by me!

Amazon for Teens

This is free for parents and teens. It is a great way to provide independence for your own teen. Even better though, if you’re an Amazon Prime member you can share many benefits with your teen, including Free Two-Day Shipping, Prime Video and Twitch Prime at no additional cost. And best of all for a parent, you stay informed and if you need to make adjustments you can!

You are offering freedom and independence for your teen but you get to set some boundaries. Once your teen makes an order it is charged to the payment method you set and shipped to an address that you selected for your teen.

Amazon for Teens

This also allows you to be able to have some great conversations about money and more.

If you feel comfortable with your teen spending money you can even choose to skip the approval step and set spending limits, offering teens the freedom to place orders up to a certain dollar amount on their own. Even better, you can get itemized notifications for every order and can cancel and return any item in accordance with Amazon’s policies.

Amazon for Teens

In talking to my own teenager she loves that the program gives her the freedom to use Amazon with her own login and without me looming over her shoulder. She has already ordered one item and after ordering it I received a text and could either allow the order to go through or not. She also loves that she can use my Prime membership as she wants to have her items immediately and if not that, she wants it in at least 2 days!

Want to learn more, watch the following video.

This is a great new program that I am so glad to have found. I highly encourage all teens and their parents to learn more and sign-up at amazon.com/forteens.

Prime Photos with Alexa – Magic on your Amazon Fire TV

October 14, 2017 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Fire TV

I love to be able to watch things that I want to watch when I want to watch them. I also take a ton of pictures and want to be able to share these with my family and friends and now with the Amazon Fire TV you can easily play a slideshow, even just asking Alexa.

This is a great benefit as you see I am a Amazon Prime member and with my Prime membership includes unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos and 5 GB digital storage for videos and files. This is a great benefit for customers in the USA as that is where this is being rolled out initially.

As I mentioned in trying this out, I loved that I could connect my Fire TV directly with my Alexa voice remote. This made it that much easier to use the Fire TV and to access the pictures. Having unlimited space for my photos is amazing and even though it took a little bit of time to get all of my pictures uploaded at first, now that I have them there I can show them off whenever I like. It is especially fun when grandparents come over, as they do not always get to see every picture otherwise.

Prime members can search for people, places and things. Prime members receive unlimited photo storage, free with Prime, and all http://amazon.com/ customers (including Prime members) receive 5 GB free photo, file, and video storage.

Amazon customers can view and search for their photos and photo albums with the Alexa Voice Remote and the Prime Photos app on their Amazon Fire TV.  Prime members can also search for people, places, and things, with phrases like, “show photos of dogs,” “show photos of Wyoming,” or “show photos of Jane.”

This is a great addition to what you can already do with Prime Photos on your Amazon Fire TV. Check out more ways to use the Prime Photos Fire TV app https://amzn.to/2wBeDlv. Now, you can relax on your living room couch and flip through your photos and personal videos on the biggest screen in your home using your Alexa Voice Remote.

Prime Photos also helps keep your photos right at your fingertips, wherever you are. Keep your photos safe while you free up space on your devices when you store your photos online with the https://amzn.to/2w0UJ0W.

Like Amazon Fire TV, the Echo Show can showcase all the photos in your Prime Photos account, with voice commands like, “Alexa, show my photos.” In fact, all the same commands work with Echo Show – just add “Alexa” to the beginning of each one.

Amazon FreeTime Unlimited Adds New Content for Kids Ages 9-12

April 26, 2016 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

amazon

Amazon today announced that FreeTime Unlimited—the all-you-can eat subscription designed from the ground up for kids and their parents—is getting even better. Amazon is adding thousands of new videos, educational apps, games, and books to FreeTime Unlimited—without raising the price. FreeTime Unlimited starts at just $2.99 per month for Prime members and $4.99 per month for customers who are not yet Prime members. FreeTime Unlimited previously offered titles primarily for kids ages 3-8 but has now added thousands of videos, educational apps, games, and books for kids ages 9-12, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Monument Valley, iCarly, Star Trek, and much more—ensuring FreeTime Unlimited content grows as your kids grow.

“Today, FreeTime Unlimited offers over 13,000 videos, educational apps, games, and books, plus over 40,000 YouTube videos and websites—for kids from preschool to preteen,” said Nate Glissmeyer, Director, Amazon Kids and Families. “To help more easily manage all that awesome content, we’re introducing FreeTime Smart Filters to give parents the ultimate say in what their kids are seeing—younger kids still have the freedom to explore the titles that are appropriate for their age group while older kids get to play Monument Valley and see other cool videos, apps, games, and books that are just right for them.”

Amazon Freetime Unlimited

Amazon FreeTime Unlimited now offers over 13,000 titles, including:

  • Thousands of hand-curated videos, including Legend of Korra, Gortimer Gibbons, Thunder Birds Are Go, Just Add Magic, iCarly, Star Trek, RL Stein’s The Haunting Hour, Superman the Animated Series, Design Squad, and Big Time Rush.
  • Hundreds of age-appropriate apps and games without any in-app purchasing or advertisements, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Monument Valley, Slugterra, Lightbot Programming Puzzles, Star Wars Rebels, Winx Bloomix Quest, Temple Run: OZ, American Girl, Barbie, Hot Wheels, Monster High, and Ever After High.
  • Thousands of books, including titles like The Witch of Blackbird Pond, The Black Pearl, The Sign of the Beaver, Harry Potter, The Island of the Blue Dolphins, Big Nate, DC Super Heroes, and Scooby Doo.

FreeTime Unlimited is also adding new titles for preschool and younger kids with popular apps like The Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, Big Hero 6, andDisney Junior Appisodes; new books The Polar Express, Sleep Like a Tiger, Tuesday, and Mr. Wuffles; and new videos from Dino Dan, Zoboomafoo,Thomas and Friends, Wishenpoof, and Tumble Leaf.

Families can also discover kid-friendly content using the Amazon FreeTime web browser, which provides kids with controlled access to over 40,000 hand-curated, age-appropriate YouTube videos and websites. All YouTube videos and websites included in the FreeTime web browser are selected and approved by Amazon experts to ensure they are appropriate for kids.

Introducing FreeTime Smart Filters

Because no two kids are exactly alike—individual development and preferences vary—Amazon FreeTime now includes FreeTime Smart Filters. Using a blend of input from Common Sense Media, Amazon experts, and parents like you, FreeTime Smart Filters is a proprietary feature to help parents sort through and manage FreeTime content. FreeTime Unlimited begins by recommending age-appropriate videos, educational apps, games, and books for kids to enjoy. Parents can then use FreeTime Smart Filters to adjust the library so that older kids are only seeing the content that’s applicable to them, and parents can be confident younger kids aren’t seeing content deemed too old. FreeTime Smart Filters will be available for 4th and 5th generation Fire tablets, including Fire Kids Edition, via a free, over-the-air software update rolling out starting April 27.

Amazon FreeTime and FreeTime Unlimited are available exclusively on Fire tablets, including Fire Kids Edition, as well as on Kindle e-readers—learn more about FreeTime Unlimited at www.amazon.com/freetimeunlimited.

The Amazon Fire Kids Edition – Made Just for Kids!

December 26, 2015 by dadofdivas 7 Comments

The Kindle Fire Kids Edition
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

My family is BIG on reading and we are always encouraging our kids to read anything and everything that they can. Sometimes we cannot always get to the local library, but we need more books to keep our kids reading more. To do that this Christmas our youngest was given the gift of an  from Santa!

We all were really excited by this gift, but especially my youngest daughter. You see, Diva-PJ is a bookworm and even at age 8 she is telling us she wants to be a librarian when she becomes an adult.

Well, the is not just for reading, and even though Diva-PJ does love to read on this, it is much more than that. The Amazon Fire Kids Edition is nice for a number of great reasons right now:

  • You can get up to $109 in savings on Fire, 1 year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited and a Kid-Proof Case, plus a 2-year worry-free guarantee
  • It’s not a toy, a full-featured Fire tablet with a 7″ IPS display and front and rear cameras. Add a microSD card for up to 128 GB of additional storage.
  • You get a 2-year worry-free guarantee: if they break it, return it and Amazon will replace it for free. No questions asked.
  • Unlimited, free access to 10,000 kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games with 1 year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited included
  • Best-in-class parental controls allow you to manage usage limits, content access, and educational goals

The Kindle Fire Kids Edition
A couple of things that I noticed was that there is room for a microSD to be added to this and if you purchase a you will have as much memory as you could ever imagine for this device. You also can enjoy free unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with your Fire Kids Edition device which lets your kids capture all of the important life moments that they experience.

Right after Diva-J got the Fire Kids Edition, we went traveling to different family homes and because of that she was able to use her Fire Kids Edition to take some very fun pictures. The Fire Kids Edition has a 2 MP rear-facing HD camera for taking high-resolution photos and 720p video, and a front-facing camera that’s perfect for video calls between kids and grandparents.

The Kindle Fire Kids Edition

We found as we were exploring the Fire Kids Edition that it has a ton to offer. On Amazon.com or the device, J-Mom and I could hand-select additional paid and free titles that Diva-PJ can access in Amazon FreeTime, like Disney Jr., Angry Birds, Minecraft, and more.

The Amazon Kindle Fire Kids Edition starts in Amazon FreeTime, which is built from the ground up just for kids. The background color and fonts change to a kid-friendly design, kids only see the titles that they have access to see, the home screen carousel shows their recently viewed titles, and they can even navigate visually to content based on characters or topics—for example “Elmo,” “Dinosaurs,” or “Puppies.”

As we were working with Diva-PJ in setting up the Fire Kids Edition, we were able to create a unique profile for her that she can access but keeps things locked down for us as parents so we do not have to worry about in-app purchases, email, or social media. at least not yet, as she is only 8.

The Kindle Fire Kids Edition

Now, that being said, it did not mean that J-Mom and I could not take it out of Amazon FreeTime using a password that we set up. By doing this we were able to fine tune settings, download apps, and even share some of Diva-PJ’s drawings with family on Facebook. This was nice because J-Mom and I could also choose specific books, videos, and apps that Diva-PJ could see in Amazon FreeTime from our library and set up time limits too.

As you can see we all are impressed by this new Amazon Fire Kids Edition and you will be too, as it offers so much for your child to explore and learn from. For the price this is a definite product I would encourage all to check out!

Amazon Releases New Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition: The Best Tablet for Reading

December 17, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Amazon today introduced the Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition, which combines the all-new Fire HD 8, a year of Kindle Unlimited with access to over 1 million books, and a limited edition leather cover for only $249.99. Reader’s Edition also includes Blue Shade, an innovative new feature that adjusts and optimizes the display on your Fire HD 8 tablet to reduce blue light exposure before bedtime. Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition is available for pre-order starting today at: www.amazon.com/FireHD8ReadersEdition.

“Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition simply delivers the best reading experience on any tablet,” said Charlie Tritschler, Vice President, Amazon Devices. “With an incredibly thin and light design and 8” HD color display, this is the perfect tablet for reading—a year of Kindle Unlimited with access to over a million books, plus innovative new features like Blue Shade—now even more readers can curl up in bed with their favorite stories.”

Read All You Want With Kindle Unlimited

Enjoy unlimited reading of over 1 million books and unlimited listening to thousands of audiobooks with Kindle Unlimited. Read freely from top books, including The Man in the High Castle, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Wayward Pines trilogy, the entire Harry Potter series, and many more. The service regularly costs $9.99 per month but is included for one year with Reader’s Edition (a $120 value).

Blue Shade – Read Comfortably at Night

Want to read that last chapter from the comfort of your bed? Simply turn on Blue Shade, an exclusive new Amazon feature that works behind the scenes to adjust and optimize the display on the Fire HD 8 for a more comfortable nighttime reading experience on a tablet. Studies have shown that evening exposure to blue light from tablets may suppress our bodies’ production of melatonin, which can prolong the time it takes to fall asleep, delay REM sleep, and reduce the level of alertness the next morning. Blue Shade uses specialized filters to limit exposure to blue light. It also offers warm color filters and the ability to lower the display brightness to an ultra-low level for comfortable nighttime reading—even in a dark room. The feature can be easily turned on or off with a single tap on the Blue Shade quick setting. Customers can also fine-tune the color settings to their personal preference, with the device intelligently adjusting the color filtering so that at any color or brightness, the blue wavelength light is always sufficiently suppressed.

The Best Reading Features

Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition includes the features readers expect from Amazon, all designed to help readers enjoy their books even more, and get more out of their reading:

  • Bookerly Font—An exclusive font designed from the ground up for reading on digital screens. Warm and contemporary, Bookerly is inspired by the artistry of the best fonts in modern print books, but is hand-crafted for great readability at any size. It introduces a lighter, more graceful look and outperforms other digital reading fonts to help customers read faster with less eyestrain.
  • Adjustable fonts—Choose from eight text sizes to find the one that fits your level of comfort.
  • Multi-colored highlights—Simply tap a word and choose from pink, blue, orange and yellow to categorize your highlighted words and passages, which can also be shared across devices.
  • Word Runner—Read Faster, one word at a time, with Word Runner, a new speed reading feature that brings each word to the center of the screen to where your eyes are already focused. Word Runner has Dynamic Pacing so it gradually builds to your preferred reading speed and algorithmically and automatically slows down for difficult words, punctuation, and paragraph breaks.
  • Audible—Choose from more than 180,000 titles, including best sellers, romances, thrillers, and much more with Audible, an Amazon company—every book is read by a professional narrator. New members can enjoy a 30-day Audible free trial with Reader’s Edition.
  • Whispersync for Voice—Whenever you see “Kindle Unlimited with Narration,” you can seamlessly switch back-and-forth between reading and listening without ever losing your place.
  • Immersion Reading—Fire tablets can synchronize Kindle text with companion Audible audiobooks so that you can read a Kindle eBook while at the same time, listening to its professionally narrated Audible companion Audiobook. With text-to-speech, Fire tablets can read English-language content to you when available from a publisher.
  • Kindle sharing with instant previews—Share quotes, highlights, and recommendations from your favorite Kindle books on Facebook or Twitter, or start a conversation with your friends on popular mobile messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Friends who receive a share can click on the book or quote and instantly start reading a free preview right from their tablet, phone, or PC web browser—no need to sign up, sign in, or install an app.
  • Goodreads integration—Combines the world’s largest e-reading community and the world’s largest community of book lovers. Reader’s Edition is integrated with the world’s largest site for readers and book recommendations, with over 40 million members, 1.1 billion books added, and 43 million book reviews. You can follow friends and authors, see what they’re reading, and share and rate books right from your device.

Engineered by Amazon – Designed for Reading

One of Amazon’s thinnest tablets ever (7.7mm), Fire HD features an 8” screen and is comparable in size to a book, making it easy to hold in one hand while reading. Featuring a widescreen 1280 x 800 HD display with over 1 million pixels—Fire HD is perfect for viewing vibrant magazines, flipping through colorful comic book pages, or perusing beautiful picture books.

Reader’s Edition includes all of the great features and entertainment benefits you can expect with Fire HD, including a powerful quad-core processor, a 720p front-facing camera and a 5MP rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, up to 128GB of expandable storage via microSD, and all-day battery life, so when not reading, you can still enjoy all the videos, music, games and photos you want on your tablet. Fire HD also offers deep integration of Amazon-exclusive services, access to over 38 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, magazines, apps and games, and much more—plus free, unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content.

The Amazon Echo Makes Halloween Or Any Day That Much Better!

October 26, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

The Amazon Echo Helps You Control Your Life No Whater What holiday that they are havng.
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Have you ever wanted to have something that could allow you to control, not only things in your home, but could answer questions that you ask it. Think, in-home robot without the arms and legs. This is where the new Amazon Echo and the wonderous Alexa comes in. I had heard about the  before and had even seen it working in the past, but I did not have one in my own home until recently.

With Halloween coming soon, Amazon send me an Amazon Echo to create a spooky home and with the Amazon Echo they even sent some  to help me to do just that.

We connected the Amazon Echo and set it up with no problem. Once set up the kids were all over the Amazon Echo and all of us were quickly just calling it Alexa – almost forgetting its’ real Amazon Echo name.

The Amazon Echo Helps You Control Your Life No Whater What holiday that they are havng.

I got right to work in trying to create some Halloween fun. I hooked up the Halloween lights that I had to the WeMo electrical outlets as well as started to ask the Amazon Echo questions to find out the extent to which Alexa could answer my questions. It was a process, and we found some funny answers as well as very informative ones too.

In the end I was able to create a fun way to turn on and off the Halloween lights within our home and them even ask the Amazon Echo for some spooky sounds. You do have to watch how you ask for things with the Amazon Echo, as if you are not careful you will not get the answer you are looking for and I found that to be true multiple times.

The girls loved what I created and we now love having the Amazon Echo and Alexa as a part of our family!

In case you’re not familiar, the  ($179.99) is a new, hands-free device designed around your voice and begins working as soon as it detects the wake word – “Alexa.” You can ask Alexa to provide information, answer questions, play music, read the news, set timers, recite your calendar, check sports scores, ask for traffic and weather updates, and much more. You can also use Echo to control anything with an on/off switch using WeMo wall plugs, switches and bulbs.

The Amazon Echo Helps You Control Your Life No Whater What holiday that they are havng.

Echo, which springs to life when you use the wake word “Alexa,” is the perfect assistant for hosting a holiday party – from setting timers while you cook to setting the mood with popular holiday music hits while your guests cozy up by the fire. Alexa is also full of fun holiday trivia and Easter Eggs. For example, you can ask:

  • “Alexa, play Prime Music Holiday Movie Favorites Playlist”
  • “Alexa, add pumpkin pie to my shopping list”
  • “Alexa, who’s playing in the Rose Bowl”
  • “Alexa, where does Santa live”

Check out what I tried!
