July 23, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

About the Book
Fine motor skills are a stepping-stone for school readiness, and Everyday Play, a new publication from Gryphon House, Inc., gives parents the tools and information they need to make developing those skills easy and fun!
Organized by age for easy reference, the dozens of creative activities in Everyday Play are inexpensive, requiring few or no materials or props, and are easy to do.  These activities allow parents and children to have fun while laying the foundation for the fine motor skills that every child needs to be successful in school.
With a chapter of frequently asked questions from real parents, developmental guidelines, and easy strategies for teaching children important skills, Everyday Play is the book parents need to ensure their child is ready for school.

The activities are inexpensive, requiring few or no materials or props. The language is conversational, so parents at every experience level will feel comfortable and capable. But most of all, teaching the skills in Everyday Play provides parents with an opportunity to have fun with their child while laying the foundation for success in school.
Activities include:

  • No-Mess Finger Painting
  • Racing Tracks
  • Squeezy Water Play
  • Graph Paper Art
  • Water Droppers

My Take on the Book

As a father of a young children I am always trying to find new and creative ways to help my girls learn and grow. This book is filled with great activities that help children work on the skills that they need to be successful once they start school. I loved the fact that the materials required for the activities are inexpensive and much of the time things that you would already have around the house!

One thing that I would have wished that the book had was color photos of what some of the activities would look like, but there are some images within the book (more graphic based than picture based) that do help as well!

This book is a great addition to any family and will add many new activities that will bring smiles to the home and learning to your children!

If this book sounds like something you would like in your own home you can find it on Amazon!
