As a parent you are always looking for online communities that allow for kids to be able to not only learn, but also be able to connect with others in a safe atmosphere. Over the past month my daughters have been trying out the new National Geographic Animal Jam online community. What I found interesting was how each of my daughters interacted with the community. My eldest daughter loved the games and being able to build her animal’s den, as well as being able to adopt pets for her animal as well. My youngest conversely, loved interacting with the environment as well as moving around the worlds, finding animals hidden in each of the worlds.
The one thing that I have found in Animal Jam that I like as a parent is that there is a great balance of both education and entertainment. You can tell that much time was spent to make the environment interactive and fun, while still holding true to the ideals of National Geographic and what they try to encourage in everything that they share both in print and online.
My daughters loved the customization that was present from the very beginning when they were signing up to the ability to create and design their dens. It allowed them to be able to keep their experience different from each other, but also allowed them to have fun and have come common experiences too.
All-in-all I was really impressed with Animal Jam and think that you and your kids will too. Just remember to encourage your kids to explore, click and check out everything in the Animal Jam world!
