If you have not heard, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened this weekend. The Walt Disney Studios announced today that the movie has set a new all-time domestic debut record with an estimated $238M. With a five-day international debut of $279M, the film has taken in $517M globally.
Thanks to Fandango and being a part of the Fandango Family I was able to take my kids to the opening weekend. Let me tell you, I do not know if I was more excited about this or if they were. You see, the kids and I have watched all of the Star Wars movies in the past so knowing that there was a new movie, which is the beginning of a set of new movies, we are were on pins and needles to see what the movie would be like.
Moviegoers: Mom, 40; Dad, 40; Jules, 11; PJ, 7).
Family faves: We love movies and have a movie night at least once a week. We love Disney movies, but beyond that we have watched all of the Star Wars movies together too.I don’t know if we have 3 main favorites as we love them all.
Fave movies for grown-ups: For parents though, three favorites for J-Mom and I include: Say Anything, Gone With the Wind and Space Balls.
What’s the story:

Now, before you read any further know that I will not provide any spoilers in this post!
A few weeks ago I went onto Fandango and was able to get tickets set up for seeing the movie this past Saturday. I went all out, signing us up to see it in the Extreme theater, this is Star Wars! I love that Fandango makes buying movie tickets easy. On top of this, you can connect your frequent movie-goer cards (for some theaters) and even be entered into giveaways when you purchase tickets too!
This past Saturday, we arrived early but were definitely not first in line. We saw people dressed up like many Star Wars characters, and while we played it calm, we were still very excited. When we finally got into the theater and found our seats, we saw some great new trailers for Superman vs. Batman and more.
What parents and kids may like about this movie:
From start to end of this Star Wars movie, you are on a non-stop thrill ride. You get to meet some great new characters. My kids loved BB-8 but they also loved Rae and Finn too. One of the things that I appreciated was that the characters were deep and the relationships between them real. You truly see the emotional attachment that some of them have for one another which is very nice.
The movie is visually stunning, and JJ-Abrams has done an amazing job at creating a whole new world that for us, has energized our love of Star Wars and by the end of the movie we were all saying – NO, that can’t be the end – we want more!
There are twists, turns and points where you will be surprised (I am not saying more!).
All-in-all though this was a movie that I think will be one that my whole family will remember always. Even after the movie, there were people in authentic Star Wars costumes posing for pictures with people (as you see below), talk about finishing off the day perfectly.
This being said, we are so excited to see the next movie as it comes out, and when it does, I will definitely be using Fandango to make sure that we can see the movie when and where we want!
Concerns: None, there are scenes that are graphic and not for younger viewers
Positive themes: Friendship, teamwork, love, commitment . 5/5)
Violence/scare factor: There is quite of bit of violence with storm troopers and others getting shot, light saber fights and more. There is violence but no gore. 3/5)
Sex/Romance: There are some tender moments and a few moments where there is a slight kiss – 1/5
Bad language: Very little bad language – 1/5
