My Take on the Movie

As someone who lives in Michigan and spends a lot of time enjoying our own wildlife and natural spaces, Hoppers really struck a chord. Directed by Daniel Chong, this animated adventure blends humor, heart, and an environmental message in a way that feels both entertaining and meaningful. The story follows Mabel, who uses new technology to connect with animals in a completely unexpected way, leading to friendships and discoveries that drive the film forward.

The animation is vibrant and full of personality, especially in the way the animals are brought to life. There’s a warmth to the storytelling that makes it easy to connect with, whether you’re watching as a parent or just someone who appreciates a good animated film. While the central conflict may feel somewhat familiar, the emotional moments and lighthearted humor help carry it through.

For anyone who loves nature—or just a feel-good story—Hoppers offers a fun, thoughtful experience that lingers after the credits roll.

My Take on the Movie

As someone who’s been hit-or-miss on Marvel’s recent releases, Thunderbolts honestly surprised me—in a good way. From the opening sequence, I could tell this wasn’t going to be the usual flash-and-quips formula. The emotional core of this story, especially with Yelena and Bucky, really landed for me. These aren’t polished heroes—they’re scarred, guarded, and more human because of it. That made their chemistry feel earned, not forced.

The action is tight and satisfying, especially that unforgettable limo scene, but what stuck with me was how each character wrestled with guilt, trust, and redemption. Lewis Pullman’s Bob was an unexpected highlight—quiet but magnetic. The blend of dark humor, strong pacing, and grounded performances made it feel closer to Winter Soldier than most recent Marvel entries.

It’s a movie about broken people trying to rebuild—something I didn’t realize I wanted in a superhero story until now.

My Take on the Movie

I did not know what to expect with this movie, but seeing that my kids loved Dora growing up and were excited to see this as well. The movie was funny in many parts but also had a great storyline too. You see growth in the characters as well which made it fun too. The movie moved along quickly and while there were parts that were a bit over the top, as Dora was as a cartoon, the characters were great and definitely ones that you can relate to. There are lessons that go throughout the movie about finding out who you are and being willing to be the person that you are meant to be. My oldest daughter actually said she would love to see more movies in the future. This is a family friendly movie that will put a smile on your face throughout the entire film!

My Take on the Movie
My family loves animated films! I didn’t know what to expect with this DVD, as I had never heard about it before. That being said I was impressed with the casting within the movie, so we were excited to check it out and experience it for ourselves.

Watching this with the kids, I first noticed that the animation and story were strong. That being said, the move was fast paced and fun and my kids loved watching this as did I.

This renewed my faith in non-big box animated films as it was great and definitely had a great message that was shared!

February 19, 2015 by dadofdivas

Strawberry Shortcake Snowberry Days
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the DVD
‘Tis the season for winter fun in these berry cool Strawberry Shortcake episodes. A fun-filled playtime is interrupted when someone notices that the squirrels are low on supplies in “The Berry Long Winter.” Blueberry’s success with her own specially designed ice skates have the other girls feeling left out in “The Big Freeze.” And Raspberry’s spring fashion show plans are put “On Ice” when cold weather and an out-of-control fountain covers the catwalk fruit-colored ice. Join Strawberry and her berry best friends as they discover working with others ensures a Snowberry good time for everyone.

My Take on the DVD
You all know that I am a father of two girls and yes, my girls like Strawberry Shortcake, so whenever I get the opportunity to get a new movie with her, and her friends in it, they are ecstatic. That being said, this is a fun DVD that again brings forth Strawberry Shortcake and the whole gang on a whole new adventure. As a parent, one of the things that I love about this series of shows is the messages that they share with kids, especially about friendship, teamwork, sportsmanship and more. The DVD was well made and the illustration was pristine. Any fan of Strawberry Shortcake will love this DVD, and even those that may not know much of the series, will also find it light and fun. So take some time today to just let loose and let go and hang out with Strawberry Shortcake and her friends!

My Take on the Movie
For anyone that loved the first movie, don’t expect that this movie will be the same, as it won’t. That being said I will say that the movie was good though and very funny too. You do get similar humor throughout and with the acing of Carrey and Daniels you get a great team that play so well off each other and really do bring their characters back to life. I know that there are some that did not like the movie, but that being said I will say that this movie lived up to what I expected the movie to be. While they tried to hold the movie to the same standard as the first movie, they didn’t need to as I think it could stand on its’ own. That being said, the movie is not going to win any oscars, but it will provide some good laughs throughout!

DVD Review – The Aviators

February 18, 2015 by dadofdivas

The Aviators
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the DVD
An animated story of heroism, bravery and friendship, Brad Garrett (Finding Nemo, Ratatouille) and Jeff Foxworthy (Smurfs, Fox & The Hound) headline the family-friendly, high-flying tale, The Aviators, arriving on Bluay Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD February 3 from VIVA Pictures and Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM). Directed by famed animator Miquel Pujol, the unforgettable adventure features the original song “We’re Fighting For Survival,” performed by Foxworthy.

Based on a true story set during World War I, The Aviators follows the adventures of a courageous, albeit clumsy, group of pigeons and their sidekick, a resourceful engineer mouse (Foxworthy). When their small farm is turned into a military training post and communications centre for the Allies, the group of unlikely heroes enlists as carrier pigeons and bravely complete airborne missions to assist the soldiers on the battlefield. When given their biggest assignment yet, the team bands together to save the day and soar into history!

My Take on the DVD
This was a fun DVD that combines history and fiction to create a family friendly movie that, while relatively unknown (or at least it was for my family) was still heart-warming and enjoyable. The animation was strong and there were a number of well-known actors that did a great job creating characters that you will definitely remember. For me, one of the great things as a parent though that I saw was that the movie has a great moral that in the end any parent will want their child to experience.
