Getting My Tech On With Cobra Electronics This Fathers Day

Anyone that has been following me over the years knows that I am a BIG fan of technology and electronics, and I love to dabble and try many different things to see how they work and how best they can make my life better.

So you can probably guess that there are usually just a few electronic/technology related items on my gift lists. Sometimes this is a challenge for my family, as they complain as there are not always affordable gift options, but one of the companies that continues to come on my radar over and over again for affordability and quality is Cobra Electronics.

I have owned Cobra Electronics Two-Way radios in the past, and loved them due to the range and quality that I received. Because of this experience I have always stayed connected to what they were up to and interested in their products. Recently, they asked me to try out the  , their latest in radar detection technology.

At first J-Mom was flat against using this because she thought it was illegal in Michigan (which I think it might have been when we were growing up). That being said, we verified this and no, it is not illegal to have these, just having radar jamming equipment.

Cobra-Electronics

This radar is small, but powerful and includes the SPX 7800BT, which is the world’s smallest radar detector. This detector has more than double the detection range than previous models from what I found in my research which was very cool!

The SPX 7800BT offers IntelliShield™ quad-level false signal rejection, pin-point radar frequency, auto mute/IntelliMute™/IntelliMute Pro™, super-charged LaserEye™ 360 laser detection, 5-level graphical signal strength meter, voice alert, car battery voltage display, low car battery warning and super-bright white OLED graphics display. All of this being said, this means that it was completely decked out with all of the bells and whistles which made it amazing to use.

Let me tell you that I am not a speed-demon – far from it, but it was cool to have this and have a eye on the road to come and to know where the “hot” spots might be. The installation was easy and Cobra Electronics has made it simple to understand and use too.

I found that it was accurate and while there were a couple of false readings around stores, I wondered whether there might be some other technology in place that was giving off similar waves as were given off by radar guns.

Purchasing this also gave me access to the iRadar™ Community, which is the world’s largest and most active detection community in the world, for live speed trap data via smartphones. I never even knew that this existed, so it was a ton of fun to explore this and learn more about this community.

This model is available now for a retail price of $249.95 but I have seen it on sale at a few places, so you may still be able to find a good deal. I know right now at they have it for only a little over $185.
