I had the opportunity to be able to try out Florists.com and see for myself what they had and the quality of the flowers that were delivered. As I always want to be the romantic, I put in an online order and you see the flowers above that arrived and how good they look!

I was impressed with how easy the process was and the flowers were beautiful and fresh looking. We have now had these for over a week and they still look great, so the quality itself was also amazing too!

My Take on the Site

As someone that wears nice clothing everyday for my professional job I am always looking for clothes that will last a long time and that look good too. Recently I found out about Original Stitch and I was excited to check out the site and what it offers. In looking through the site itself I was impressed to find the breadth and depth that it offered consumers. I explored the site and found that there was a ton of things that could be customized and that no matter what your size you were able to develop clothing that will fit you well and look good too.

I found the site to be very easy to use. It walks you step-by-step through the process that you would need to get the right measurements and get the right fit. I was impressed with the quality that I found on the site as well as the variety as well. The prices were also reasonable based on the fact that you are getting a customized shirt, which you cannot get by just going to the store itself.

All-in-all, this was a great site that offered great quality and customization and I highly recommend that you check out the site for yourself to see what it can offer you too!

Marbles ( @TheBrainStore) Challenges You To Continually Learn

February 13, 2014 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Marbles: The Brain Store

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

The older I get the more that I know that I have to continually challenge my mind to stay active and keep thinking about bigger and better things. The more I think analytically and challenge myself, I find the more benefits that it provides me in other ways too.

This is something that I continually want to challenge my own daughters to do as well and a new company that I just learned about is doing just that. Marbles: the Brain Store, offers products that challenge your brain to think harder and deeper, as well as to see the world around you in new and unique ways.

In looking through the site there are so many gifts and items for yourself that are too cool and make me want to go on a shopping spree, but alas, I find myself restraining. That being said though, I have talked in the past about the fact that my daughters are smarties and are sometimes even too smart and clever for even themselves. With that in mind I knew that I could find find gifts for my Clever Kids and with my youngest daughter coming soon, I wanted to find just the right gift that would be a ton of fun, but would also challenge her as well.

That being said I seared through the pages of Marbles: the Brain Store, and found a game (our family loves family game night) called Rush Hour that looked like a fun game with a lot of learning potential.

rush hour collectors editionWhile the game may not look like much, it is a blast to play and centers around using the game cards to set up the board and then moving the cars around the board to help the red car escape the Rush Hour that you have on the board itself. It requires you to think, but also gives you a great sense of satisfaction when you bring the car out of the board. Both my girls loved this game, even my 5.5 year old. It is a one player game for the most part, but you can always ask for help or take turns between rounds too. I put together a short video to give you a sense of the game itself.

This was a great game and one that I know that my family and I will be using for a long time to come…I just hope that we can get new card packs in the future possibly!

If you have never checked out this website/company I highly encourage you to do so and see all of the cool items that they have. Marbles: The Brain Store is a company that has things that you will not find in stores and it will definitely be a store that I will come back to again in the future.

Best of all, right now Marbles: The Brain Store is offering Free Shipping with any purchase!

Pen Pal Kids Club ( @PenPalKidsClub ) Website Review and #Giveaway

May 30, 2012 by dadofdivas

About the Company

Children everywhere are invited to join Pen Pal Kids Club (www.PenPalKidsClub.com) and go on exciting global adventures this summer – all from the safety of their own home computers!  Pen Pal Kids Club – the safe social network for kids around the world™ – encourages a love for learning about other cultures, providing different levels of challenge for children aged four to 14.  A key component of the site allows kids to share, explore and play with global pen pals in a completely secure environment.

Guaranteed free of any advertisements, the learning-and-fun-filled Pen Pal Kids Club website is available for $2.99/month (first month free) or $29.99/year (two months free).  Among the key features of this one-of-a-kind site are:

  • Kids write and receive digital postcards from children around the globe, while learning about their new friends’ lifestyles, locales, dreams and aspirations.  To ensure privacy and security, subscribers create and communicate via an avatar, while parents can help locate and approve their children’s Pen Pals as well as monitor the communications that take place.
  • Postcards are automatically translated into seven different languages – English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, French, Italian and German – allowing children from most major regions of the world to communicate with each other.  Pen Pal Kids Club plans to add additional translated languages in the future.
  • Adding to the learning fun, the site features engaging games founded in subject matter relating to world history, language, social studies, economics, geography and government. The six interactive games on the site’s current roster are designed for a range of ages and skill sets.
  • Thanks to an exclusive partnership, Pen Pal Kids Club subscribers enjoy direct online access to Encyclopædia Britannica for Kids’ vast library of information. Filtered to be appropriate for children, this rich database lets kids explore their pen pals’ cultures, world history – and even their own family roots!
  • Pen Pal Kids Club places the highest priority on safety.  The advertiser-free online environment offers built-in parental controls, is fully compliant with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and has earned the TRUSTe seal of safety (www.truste.com).

Launched in 2011, the Pen Pal Kids Club website was co-founded by John and Shelley Aliotti, based on a concept from Shelley Aliotti, author/illustrator of “My Pen Pal Scrapbook: An Educational Journey Through World Cultures.”  Published in 1995, the book’s mission has been continued with the website.

“Our goal is to instill a love of learning about different people and places in children,” said Ms. Aliotti.  “With Pen Pal Kids Club, children can reach across geographic, time and language barriers to communicate safely with each other – and expand their knowledge and understanding of world cultures in ways never before possible.”

Among the six games on the website are:

  • Trivial Travails!  How much do you know about the world?  Children test their knowledge by competing IN REAL TIME against three other players from around the globe to answer fast-paced questions about history, geography, and related subjects. The first one to make a trail from one side of the board to the other is the winner!
  • Fare Fair!  Help customers choose a meal that is native to their country. Learn to recognize and associate foreign words, foods and currencies – and work fast to keep your customers happy with your service!
  • They’re There!  Search through interesting scenes and monuments to find hidden objects. Find them all before time runs out!
  • We’re Where?  How well do you know the numerous mountain ranges, deserts and volcanoes spread across the continents?  Race against the clock to identify their locations and learn interesting facts as you go.
  • World Mix & Match Have fun recognizing monuments, flags, and other cultural phenomena in a fast-paced matching game that will have students coming back again and again.
  • My Mysterious Mysteries Children will get hooked on solving global mysteries which challenge them to outwit an obstacle course filled with hidden fact-based clues, then write a report about their conclusions.

For further details about the site’s content and security safeguards, or to subscribe, please visit: www.penpalkidsclub.com.

Some History on the Company

The concept of Pen Pal Kids Club started when the creator Shelley A Aliotti was a kid…like many kids back then, around the world, she had a Pen Pal – Michi from Japan. Through her letters and mine we shared, learned and forged a unique friendship. That relationship, and fun, stayed with me as she grew, married, became a mom and grandmother.

In 1995, Shelley decided to share this experience by creating My Pen Pal Scrapbook. She traveled to schools, groups, organizations and more. My Pen Pal Scrapbook made it easy and safe to share, learn and create friendships for life…worldwide.

Shelley is proud to say that the original My Pen Pal Scrapbook has been read throughout the world. Pen Pal Kids Club is much more interactive, exciting and…much easier to use than the original. Now as a global website, kids can Explore, Play and Share – within a completely safe site…from any computer! Kids are able to send digital postcards to one another and, with the speed of the internet, they can quickly see, that despite their physical and geographical differences, they are all much the same inside.

At Pen Pal Kids Club there will be no outside advertisers, members or hidden traps – this is a completely safe site. The company sums it up by saying that, by joining Pen Pal Kids Club now, your family will begin safe, new adventures in Exploring, Playing & Sharing – in your home…and around the world! At Pen Pal Kids Club, on this virtual global playground, children everywhere will find that “The world is just a friend away.”

This alien is so fun and my girls loved the quirky nature of the illustrations on the shirts that we received but also in going onto the website I was interested to find so many educational components. The website is filled with great educational videos with amazing images surrounding everything from space to aliens to music and more. There also were some very cool online games that were a part of the site itself. If you have kids that love to learn and to learn about aliens and space, then you should check out this site with your kids today!

National Geographic Kids Books Encourage the Mind!

July 2, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I was recently asked to review some of the new books coming out from National Geographic Kids this year and to say it bluntly I was impressed. I have been a fan of National Geographic since I was a kid. I loved reading about far off places and would imagine myself being able to visit the exotic destinations that I was reading about. Now, with National Geographic Kids, my own girls will be able to be transported to Africa, or back in time to the Civil War, or even further back to the time of the Dinosaurs.

The books that I was able to read were full of great information and when I sat down and read the books with my daughters their attention was completely focused on the material that was presented. Also, the books were fully illustrated with beautiful photos, as well as illustrations that drew my and my daughter’s eyes.

I was impressed, while exploring the bookstore online, at the number of books that National Geographic has for children. One title (that I did not receive as a reviewer) that I was drawn to was about the US Presidents. I am currently working on reading the biographies of our Presidents, and loved the fact that National Geographic had also put out a book detailing (in general) some information about each of our Presidents, up to our current President today.

Not only does National Geographic kids provide great books for children to read, they also have a wonderful magazine and online site to encourage all forms of learners. With games, videos, stories, activities and more, no child entering this site will be bored. There is something for everyone!

As mentioned, there is something for everyone from National Geographic Kids. I would recommend that you check out their online world as well as their bookstore for yourself to see what you and your kids can learn about the world around them!

All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by the company.  Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider. Sesame Street eBookstore Debuts with Collection of More Than 100 Titles

July 2, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization that produces Sesame Street, and Impelsys, launched today a new online Sesame Street eBookstore at www.ebooks.sesamestreet.org. Readers can subscribe with Impelsys to get unlimited access to a library of more than 100 Sesame Street eBooks for an annual subscription price of $39.99. A special introductory subscription price of $24.99 is being offered to subscribers through July 4, 2010.

Managed by Impelsys, the store features an eBooks collection including a wide range of fun and educationally rich Sesame Street titles such as Elmo’s ABC Book, Abby in Wonderland, and Grover’s Guide to Good Eating. Titles are offered in a variety of formats: eBooks allow a child to read along at their own pace; audio eBooks contain narration, sound effects, and music; animated eBooks bring beloved Sesame Street characters and stories to life in full-color animation; and interactive eBooks invite children to play along and learn.

Other features include an auto-play option that turns the pages for the reader and text highlighting that visually reinforces the narration in audio eBooks. The site also provides the option of viewing in Kids Mode, which simplifies the navigation for a child by displaying only the available books while removing parent tips and menus.
eBook titles cover 19 subject areas including letters, numbers, counting, colors, and cultural appreciation. New titles will be added regularly to the bookshelf, and a rotating selection of five eBooks will continue to be available free of charge at ebooks.sesamestreet.org/free.

The Sesame Street eBookstore is powered by iPublishCentral, a 2010 SIIA CODiE Awards finalist for “Best Software as a Service Solution.” The breakthrough digital publishing platform was developed by Impelsys, a fast-growing company that enables book publishers to deliver their content online with a cost-effective turnkey solution.

“There is a new generation of readers that is moving toward electronic devices in order to access news, information and books, and we want to deliver our content to young readers in the formats they are engaging with on a daily basis,” said Scott Chambers, senior vice president of worldwide media distribution at Sesame Workshop. “Thanks to our partnership with Impelsys, the debut of the eBookstore is an important step forward in bringing our 40-year library of children’s books to the next generation of young readers.”

“We’ve been very pleased with the enthusiastic response we received in our successful pre-launch and are excited about the debut of the first-ever Sesame Street eBooks collection,” said Sameer Shariff, chief executive officer of Impelsys. “Our goal is to showcase the powerful Sesame Street brand with an ambitious digital publishing initiative that will establish a new standard in online libraries for children’s eBooks.”

My Take on These Books
I had the chance to try out a number of these books and when they say that they are interactive, they mean it! My girls loved interacting with the characters and the stories. Even for the young reader, they can easily read along with their favorite Sesame Street character. If you have not yet checked this out, I highly recommend that you do!

Shoppingnanny.com Lets You Save Money, Easily!

June 23, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I am the type of person that is always trying to save money! In a one income family, that is just what you do! So when I was asked to try out shoppingnanny.com, I was happy to oblige.

What Shoppping Nanny DoesShopping Nanny smartly matches coupons and deals to your individual shopping list. The site guarantees a $500 per year savings. You simply give some basic info about where you shop and what you buy, and Shopping

Nanny will plan, search and sort all the available deals for you. It’s just $5.95 per month.

My Take on the SiteI found the site to be well set up and full of deals. I have been to many coupon sites and this site tends to have a bit more flexibility and functionality than some.

I liked the personalization that the site provides. You can simply finish filling out your profile to get great deals sent to you in the privacy of your home. While the site is still new, one of the challenges that I had with it was when I did go in to personalize it, only two grocery stores came up and they were about 2 hours away. I know that this is because the site is just getting to launch and am sure that the kinks will be out soon once it launches across the USA soon (California and Arizona will launch on July 1),

There are some other nice features, which include live chatting with a shopping nanny as well as the ability to make your own shopping list form the coupons that you find as well as other items that you need.

Overall, I was impressed by the site and know that it will definitely provide families like mine with great deals. Keep an eye on the site as they continue to expand in the future!

FashionPlaytes.com – Let your child be the designer

June 23, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I was given the opportunity to try our Fashionplaytes.com recently and I have to say that I am impressed! The site provides girls the opportunity to take their creativity to the max, designing their own outfit that can then be made for them.
Sarah_and_maddie
In going through the website, I loved the reasons that Sarah (the creator) started the company. She wrote:

As a young girl I designed most of my clothing and was fortunate to have a very talented mother who could sew. She indulged me and made wonderful custom outfits for my first days of school, dances and special events. On occasion, we’d stay up almost all night selecting embellishments and making the outfit “just right”. I recall the pride and satisfaction of creating something that was exclusively mine. I now have a 7 year old daughter who is designing clothing and asking me to make it for her. Fortunately, Grammy Rose is happy to take on most of these projects (along with a sword cover or two from my son, but that’s for our next project…).

Fashion Playtes is a personal passion. I’d like to offer girls the chance to create something unique and build their confidence and self-esteem in the process.  Our business offers tween girls an opportunity to design clothing and have it produced to wear at a reasonable price.
At the essence of our business is collaboration between parents and daughters throughout the design process. We hope to garner parents as ambassadors of our brand.  We are a tween and parent friendly company working to ensure privacy and security issues are managed correctly.
It’s a fun journey seeing this vision translate to reality. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do! We are very much looking forward to seeing the magic of your customization and self-expression. Please send us your feedback!

Diva-J had a blast designing both a shirt for herself and a dress for her doll on the site. The design templates are easy to use and though it takes a few weeks to receive, the end product was definitely something that was of high quality and something that any girl would be proud of. In our own home, once we received the items, Diva-J has not wanted to not wear the shirt she designed (it is like a badge of honor)!

So do you have a budding artist? If so, I would recommend that you go over and check out Fashionplaytes.com and try out your (or your child’s) designing skills and see what you can come up with!

ParentFurther – A New Website to Assist Parents

April 26, 2010 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

ParentFurther is a new online resource for families that offers parents the step-by-step guidance and tips they need to raise successful kids. Instead of focusing on what is wrong with our kids, ParentFurther provides positive, strength-based parenting advice that highlights what is right with kids AND parents. With topics about young children as well as older teens, ParentFurther provides interactive content in the areas that matter most to families.
ParentFurther is the only online parenting community that helps parents do just that: parent further. Providing practical, everyday parenting tips and useful advice for difficult situations, ParentFurther helps parents:

  • Teach kids positive values
  • Build a strong family
  • Improve family communication
  • Set clear boundaries and enforce reasonable consequences
  • Find the support and knowledge needed to help kids grow up successfully
  • Focus on the things that matter most to family

The content and advice featured throughout ParentFurther is backed by research as well as a panel of family and parenting experts. ParentFurther provides parents the research-based knowledge they crave with the everyday tools they need to tackle family issues. It is the only parenting site based on Search Institute’s Developmental Assets®.* Forty common-sense, positive qualities and experiences that help influence the choices young people make. By combining the assets concept with the power of positive parenting, ParentFurther provides innovative and successful approaches to a wide variety of topics relevant to today’s families.
In addition to the more traditional “ages and stages” information, topics covered include:
Friends
Health and Nutrition
The Environment
Kids and Money
School Success
Siblings
Technology and Media
Work and Family
Chores and Responsibilities
Peer Pressure
Positive Values
School Problems
Caring Relationships
Connecting to Community
Family Communication
Family Fun
Serving Others
Spiritual Life
Alcohol Use
Tobacco Use
Bullying and Violence

Presenting a proactive parenting strategy, ParentFurther gives families the tools they need to build caring relationships and develop positive values, and it helps parents address not only the issues their children are dealing with now, but also the issues they will face in the future. http://www.parentfurther.com/.
