Quiznos Now Offers Toasty Pastas!

All parents are familiar with the dinnertime struggle. Deciding what to eat (and what not to) is one of the first acts of independence a child makes because it’s an area where they hold actual control. But, the dinner table doesn’t have to be a battleground! quiznos-toasty-pasta Quiznos, the brand you know for its Toasty subs and delicious soups and salads, is launching a line of new premium Toasty Pastas for people of all ages. Quiznos has brought four brand new pasta dishes for everyone that include:

  1. Mac & Cheese – The new pasta lineup is highlighted by three flavors of Mac & Cheese, including Classic Mac & Cheese, Bacon Mac & Cheese and Lobster Mac & Cheese, featuring Cavatappi pasta with Romano Parmesan, Provolone and Fontina cheeses, all topped with Quiznos hand-made breadcrumbs.
  2. Spicy Sausage Marinara – The Spicy Sausage Marinara features Illinois-based Fontanini Italian Meats spicy all-pork Italian sausage and all-natural mozzarella, topped off with lightened up basil marinara sauce all served over Cavatappi Pasta.
  3. Meatballs Marinara –Featuring Fontanini’s old-fashioned beef and pork-blended meatballs, which are filled with freshly grated Romano and Ricotta cheese and a perfect blend of Italian seasonings. Layered with a double portion of all-natural mozzarella, paired with a new and improved marinara sauce and all served over Cavatappi pasta.
  4. Chicken Pesto – The Chicken Pesto Pasta features sliced all-white chicken breast, paired with diced balsamic tomatoes, an Italian three-cheese blend topped with Quiznos original Basil Pesto sauce all served over Cavatappi pasta.

quiznos-toasty-pasta My Take on the Pasta As an Italian I grew up on pasta dishes so I was excited to try these new toasty pasta dishes. I decided to try the Chicken Pesto as my first try on these dishes. Just like the other subs I have tried in the past, I was impressed with how freshly made all of the items are and how they take their time to toast the items too. For this order I also tried ordering online (as I had never done this before). The online ordering process was easy, though I did find that not all locations would take the orders online. My order was going to be done about 30 minutes after I ordered so I got in my car and headed over to the location to pick up my pasta. I arrived on time, but my dish was still being made, so I had to wait a short period of time. I made sure I was all taken care of financially and by the time this was done my food was ready! quiznos-toasty-pasta I ended up taking my pasta back to my office, and even though that was about 10 minutes away, by the time I got there my food was still a good temperature and I could easily dig in. The pasta itself was delicious, with just the right amount of pesto and chicken. This makes me wonder what the other dishes are like…alas, another day another lunch. quiznos-toasty-pasta All-in-all I was impressed and sold on this new lunch item. If you like pasta I would recommend this to all as it is the right size for lunch and the right price too – only 6.99 for my dish! Check it out today at your own local Quiznos!

Firehouse Subs Taste Great and Give Back-What Could be Better

October 8, 2013 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to bring my family to the new Firehouse Subs franchise in East Lansing Michigan. I had never heard of this company before, and came to find that they are just catching on and opening in Michigan, but are based out of Jacksonville, Florida.

Upon arriving the location, I was impressed with how clean the facility was (granted it was new). You could tell that the employees cared about the facility. On top of this, the moment we walked in the door we were greeted my a rehearsed line (I hate to say it, but I cannot remember what it was) which was an impressive way to enter a restaurant and made all of us feel welcome at once.

 firehousesubs8

The restaurant definitely has a  Firehouse theme, and upon talking to the Manager I came to find that all of the apparel and firehouse regalia was donated by local fire houses – Talk about keeping it local. On top of this, there was a very cool mural (see above) that was painted and designed with the local city in mind. With this being a block away from the doors of Michigan State University, you can see why there were definite Spartan references, as well as references to the rivalry between Michigan State and the University of Michigan and Ohio State University.  In particular, I loved the Spartan cloud in the mural!

firehousesubs10

The menu was quite diverse and allowed my family a ton of choices (too many for my first time), but I guess that just makes me want to come back that much quicker! We ordered and I had a chance to chat with the owner a bit more. I came to find out that the company itself gives back a ton to the local communities in which they are a part. At the register you will find a box where patrons can donate money toward a grant fund that raises money for firehouses throughout the United States. From the money that was raised the company makes grants of $10,000 available for local firehouses to apply for, and the goal is that a local firehouse near each franchise will have the ability to all receive one grant in the future. I love this concept, as it shows that they are there for so much more than just making money and serving food!

The flavor of the food that we had was great. We all loved the sandwiches that we chose and we all feel that there were plenty of other sandwiches that we want to come back to try in the future. Just look at the smile on my kids’ faces and you can see how much they enjoyed it and so did my wife and I.

Looking for the Perfect Steak This Fathers Day at #Longhorn Steakhouse #sponsored

June 10, 2013 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

So many times for fathers day I am asked what I want. While some of my favorite gifts in the past have been the homemade kind from my kids, I have to say that food also warms my heart and fills gullet. At the same time, I am also a sucker for a great steak. I was so excited to be able to go out for the first time to try a local Longhorn Steakhouse with my family as an early father’s day present.

longhorn steakhouse, dad of divas. dadofdivas.com

In entering the restaurant, I was first drawn to the decor. With a southwest feel, you get drawn into the feel of the theme of the food that you will be found here. Whether it was the artwork, the antler adorned light fixtures, or cowboy motifs, all are placed to transport you into a feeling the of the southwest. Even the music, Country of course, was well laid out, and one thing that was great was that while the music was playing it was not loud or over-played, but instead was just right.

longhorn steakhouse, dad of divas, dadofdivas.com longhorn steakhouse, dad of divas, dadofdivas.com

All of my family were impressed with the breadth of the menu itself. You will not only find steaks (7 types of steak to choose from) at this restaurant, but a wide array of food that any patron will be able to connect with. If you are looking for a huge variety of steaks though, as I was in this visit, this restaurant will deliver. Even better though was the fact that the steaks that they offer range from prices starting at $11.99 on up so depending on the cut of beef you want and how much you can eat, you can definitely find a bit of everything. Most of my family, except the kids, all got steaks. The kids were happy as well with their choices on the menu. As a parent the prices for these children’s menu options were very reasonable and they get a ton of food, as did the adults.  The adult’s entrees also came with a ton of food, including salad and a side dish.

This was a Kids Meal!

When we received our food the only thing we all could say was WOW! The steaks that the adults received with mouth-watering and very well flavored. The food was made to our specification and the flavor was out of this world. I was the only one at the table to get the fully loaded sweet potato, and for any of you that love this amazing spud, I highly recommend, but know that it is definitely sweet!

As you can tell we were very excited about the food and the atmosphere in this restaurant. On top pf all of this was the service though. From the greeting at the door, which was held ope for us, we felt a part of the experience. The waitress we worked with was very attentive, and the manager that stopped at our table truly wanted to hear about our experience (and she did not know I was reviewing the restaurant).

A Mantra Everyone Should Live By!

With all of this said, I have to give five stars to Longhorn Steakhouse, for all of the reasons that I mentioned above and so much more. So if you are looking for a great way to show your love for a dad this father’s day, give them the gift of a great meal (and steak) and Longhorn Steakhouse can definitely offer this!

The Sea Captain’s House Restaurant in Myrtle Beach ( @MyMyrtleBeach ) is Amazing! #myrtlebeach

August 26, 2012 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

A few weeks ago my family and I traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a vacation and while there we had some great experiences and shared some very fun times. I was lucky enough to be able to work with the Myrtle Beach Tourism Bureau as a part of the trip and one of the things that they provided was a gift card to The Sea Captain’s Restaurant. I had never heard of this restaurant before so I ended up looking online to find out more. What I saw online look simply delicious and I could tell that I was going to completely enjoy myself when we went to this restaurant (as I love seafood)!

We ended up going to the restaurant on an evening after a very full day of other activities and by the time that we got there it was close to 7:30 pm (quite late with kids). We had not called ahead to get a reservation, but seeing at what time it was we thought it would not be too crowded… we were wrong. Even at this later hour, the restaurant was hopping! We ended up having to wait about 25 minutes for a table but the time went by quickly as they had wait staff to bring out drinks and games in the lobby as well.

When we got to our seats we were given a hot basket of hushpuppies and were able to see the amazing array of food that they had on the menu (so much more than just seafood).

My Review of the Restaurant

To conclude, this was an amazing restaurant with amazing food that I would highly recommend to anyone that is going to Myrtle Beach in the near future!

Brunch at C-House at the @MileNorthHotel Provided A Nice End to a Great Weekend

July 14, 2012 by dadofdivas 28 Comments

About two weeks ago my wife and I went to Chicago to celebrate our 14th anniversary as many of you have read. We only stayed a few days, but in those few days we did a lot. On our final day, Sunday, we wanted to take it easy and simply enjoy some quiet time together. In looking for options we found out that the C-House Restaurant at the Mile North Hotel they offer brunch on Sunday mornings starting around 10:30. This was perfect as we wanted to sleep in and not have to rush.

We ended up walking from our hotel ( which was only about five blocks from where we were staying) and made it to the restaurant just prior to our reserved time. When we arrived there was only one other family there having breakfast so we had the restaurant to ourselves.

The restaurant provides a modern urban feel and you get to relax in very comfortable surroundings while you watch the kitchen do their work ( as it offers an open floor concept). I was impressed to see the wide variety of food on the menu, from traditional items that you would think would be there to items that truly were unique.

For our meal my wife decided to order a more traditional breakfast while I ordered the lobster club ( partly because I love lobster and partly because of the unique nature of the menu item itself).  We ended up having to wait a while for our food which was the only downside to the experience, but I will say that this offered my wife and I agreed opportunity to reconnect and talk about many different things which was nice as with kids you don’t always get this opportunity.

When our food did arrive both my wife and I were very pleased with not only how the food was presented, but once we started eating we were very impressed with the mixtures of flavors and the quality of the food that we received. I particularly enjoyed the lobster club. I waitress mentioned that many people order this item. I will make one caution with this sandwich though, and that is that the sandwich is a bit messy so be aware of this and know that you will need your napkin while you are eating.

Overall our brunch experience was very positive and I would return to the restaurant in the future to try some of their other Menu items and I encourage you too as well.

Experiencing Amazing German Cuisine at The Berghoff ( @berghoffchicago )

July 14, 2012 by dadofdivas 23 Comments

I come from a German family, or at least part of my family is. My grandmother on my father’s side and all of her relatives were German and I was growing up I had the opportunity to grow up with a love of great German food. Living where I do now unfortunately there is not a lot of German influence in the restaurants surrounding the city so needless to say we do not have many opportunities to be able to he had German restaurants very often.

About two weeks ago my wife and I went to Chicago to celebrate our 14th anniversary and as a part of this trip I wanted to be up to go and experience a restaurant that I had heard about but never tried.  The Berghoff Restaurant in Chicago is a restaurant that has been around for many years. Actually the restaurant started back in 1898 and as you walk around the existing restaurant see hints of history all around you. The restaurant even has a menu from early in the 20th century right when you walk in, and when you look at this you will be transported back in time and will be amazed at the number of items that were on the menu at that and time and how much food and drink ended up costing.

In arriving at the restaurant we were greeted kindly and shown to our reserved table. The staff was friendly and it was busy for the night that we were there (as the server said most sites are). I noticed right away that the menu was not as extensive as the one you see walking into the restaurant, but you still have the opportunity to see some great looking items on the menu as well. One thing that I enjoyed seeing is that the menu provided to guests with a coded review of what you could order to have the true Berghoff experience.

Seeing that we were in Chicago for only a few days and that we would only visit this restaurant once, my wife and I wanted to experience the restaurant at its best. We ended up ordering the Alsatian Onion And Apple Soup to share and then each of us ordered Sauerbraten, both of which were listed as specialties.

When the soup arrived the presentation was amazing. The taste was something that I had not tasted before with a mix of sweet and sour it was completely delicious.

The Sauerbraten followed and we were both amazed had the amount of food we received and how wonderful it tasted. Again the mix of sweet and sour made to meat taste amazing, and with a mix of vegetables and whipped potatoes that came with it, you definitely left the restaurant filled ( in a good way).

For dessert we selected the Apple Strudel and for us this was simply delicious. The dessert itself simply melted in your mouth making the end of the experience a very satisfying!

If you I’m going to be in the Chicago area and are looking for an amazing German restaurant that offers history as well as great food at a reasonable price look no further than The Berghoff Restaurant!
