I have had the opportunity to work with and get to know Kathy Slattengren from Priceless Parenting quite a bit over the past few years and even was able to go through her online parenting course a while back as well (http://dadofdivas.blogspot.com/2008/09/priceless-parenting-great-training.html). I was very impressed with her programs and she continues to impress me with the passion that she has to helping parents become the best that they can be.
Recently she has explored and started a few new initiatives to help parents. First, she researched a new phenomena, that of young children searching for sex sites on the internet. She was recently interviewed on this topic on a morning TV show (See Below).
Another initiative that Kathy is working on is helping parents work on the transition that they andntheir children are going to be going through as they get ready for college. I have written on this and will soon be revealing a new E-Book for my readers on the topic of preparing for college, but Kathy looks one step further in the effects of the college decision and your child leaving the home.
Is My Teen Ready for College? Am I Ready to Let Go?
Emotions run high as high school students prepare for their next major step in life. Now there is an online course to prepare parents for the new changes and challenges of this stage.
Applying to colleges brings out strong emotions in both teens and parents. Teens are filled with excitement and anticipation while parents are often unprepared for the letting go process.
Help for parents in navigating these challenging years is now available! “Ready to Launch: Parenting Teens Through the College Transition” is an eight lesson, online course that prepares parents for the impending changes.
Up to this point, little attention has been paid to the difficulties parents encounter as their teens begin to spread their wings. This course addresses those challenges by giving parents the tools to successfully navigate the high school to college transition years.
Social psychologist, Jane Adams, realized parents often lacked information explaining “I saw many parents of teens struggling with common issues of separation and identity. These parents were unprepared for the significant changes in their lives triggered by their teens leaving for college.”
Dr. Adams, whose best-selling books focus on young adult children, and Kathy Slattengren, M.Ed., a veteran parent educator and founder of Priceless Parenting, teamed up to produce this unique, innovative program. According to Slattengren, “Launching teens into college is one of the most stressful parenting periods. We designed this course to help parents cope with issues and critical concerns that often occur during this transition.”
The Ready to Launch course can be found at http://www.pricelessparenting.com/. Parents can try the first lesson for free. The entire course may be purchased for $75.
Kathy also is launching a seven week parenting class combining her online class with calls/discussion starting February 22nd. This page has more information:
