Cruella To Be Releases May 2021

February 17, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

The Walt Disney Company has released the trailer, two posters and new publicity stills for its all-new live-action feature film “Cruella,” starring Academy Award®-winners Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, directed by Craig Gillespie. The film will be releasing May 28, 2021.

Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

Disney’s “Cruella” is directed by Craig Gillespie (“I Tonya”) from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis. It was produced by Andrew Gunn (“Freaky Friday”), Marc Platt (“Mary Poppins Returns”) and Kristin Burr (“Christopher Robin”), with Emma Stone, Michelle Wright, Jared LeBoff and Glenn Close serving as executive producers. Two-time Oscar®- winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “A Room with a View”) creates the dazzling and imaginative costumes, which take on a life of their own.

Movie Review – Upside-Down Magic

December 17, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Upside Down Magic

About the movie

In Upside-Down Magic, when 13-year-old Nory discovers she can flux into animals and best pal Reina can manipulate flames, they enter the Sage Academy for Magical Studies. But Nory’s wonky magic and tendency for turning into a “Dritten” – a half-kitten, half-dragon – lands her in a class for those with unconventional powers, and she and her classmates must prove that their upside–down magic beats right-side up!

Cast

  • Izabela Rose as Nory Boxwood Horace;
  • Siena Agudong as Reina Carvajal;
  • Kyle Howard as Budd Skriff;
  • Max Torina as Andres Padillo;
  • Elie Samouhi as Elliot Cohen;
  • Alison Fernandez as Pepper Paloma;
  • Vicki Lewis as Headmaster Knightslinger;
  • Yasmeen Fletcher as Chandra;
  • Callum Seagram Airlie as Phillip;
  • Cynthia McWilliams as Professor Argon;
  • Elaine Hao as Professor Han;
  • Amitai Marmorstein as Professor Lewis

My Take on the Movie

As someone that has read the book, I will say that the storyline and characters of this movie mostly don’t follow the book. There are a number of extras and the storyline is a bit different, with new characters that were not in the book itself. That being said though the movie was still a fun movie for the whole family to watch together.

The movie had a very diverse cast which was great to see. Whether you have read the book or not, I would still recommend the movie as a family friendly movie. If you have read the book, go into watching the movie with a clean slate. Enjoy the movie, the characters and the plot and you will find that it was a fun way to spend some quality family time.

Claudine Blu-ray Giveaway

October 27, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

(Stars: Diahann Carroll, James Earl Jones, Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs, Tamu Blackwell, David Kruger). Diahann Carroll is radiant in an unforgettable, Oscar-nominated performance as Claudine, a strong-willed single mother, raising six kids in Harlem, whose budding relationship with a gregarious garbage collector (an equally fantastic James Earl Jones) is stressed by the difficulty of getting by in an oppressive system. Directed by John Berry, this romantic comedy with a social conscience deftly balances warm humor with a serious look at the myriad issues—from cycles of poverty to the indignities of the welfare system—that shape its characters’ realities. The result is an empathetic chronicle of both Black working-class struggle and Black joy, a bittersweet, bighearted celebration of family and community set to a sunny soul soundtrack composed by Curtis Mayfield and performed by Gladys Knight & the Pips.

  • The contest is for one Blu-ray copy of “Claudine” (The Criterion Collection).
  • The contest ends on November 2, 2020 at 11: 59 pm.

Legends of Tomorrow: Season 5 Blu-ray Giveaway

October 25, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

(Stars: Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Victor Garber, Dominic Purcell, Matt Ryan, Tala Ashe, Lisa Marie DiGiacinto, Veronika London, Jes Macallan, Amy Louise Pemberton, Mathias Retamal, Shayan Sobhian, Adam Tsekhman, Jasmine Vega, and Arthur Darvill). As we reach the conclusion of season four, a demon named Neron has possessed the body of Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), leaving John Constantine (Matt Ryan) to wrest Ray’s soul from the hands of Astra Logue (Olivia Swann), the “innocent girl” he failed to rescue from Hell years all those long years ago. Meanwhile, up in our world, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and her girlfriend Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) must deal with a magical creature-fueled paranoia. Harvesting souls via an insidious Palmer Tech app, Neron is poised to “Make Earth Hell Again.”

To make matters worse, Sara’s Timeship has been turned into a Noah’s Ark for various unruly monsters and magical creatures. Oh, and Ava’s Time Bureau was taken over by an evil Fairy Godmother. To defeat Neron, the Legends realize in the end that they will have to sacrifice one of their own. But it gets way worse…

In attempting to change her future, Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe) will accidentally change not just the past she shared with Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), but fundamentally change who the Legends are in season five. Can our team go back to who they were next season? Can a reformed arsonist turned romance novelist Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell), a half-werewolf named Mona Wu (Ramona Young), and a punk rocker shapeshifter named Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) stop the literal Hell that Astra unleashes on the world in the finale? And what happens when the Legends awaken the original guardians of Time (no, not the Time Masters, sillies, that was season one!) who wish to erase everything the Legends have “screwed up for the better” over the past four seasons?

  • The contest is for one Blu-ray copy of Legends of Tomorrow: Season 5.
  • The contest ends on October 28, 2020 at 11: 59 pm.

My Take on the Movie

As a fan of Star Wars I can say that this movie was a thrill ride from beginning to end. While I know that no movie can please everyone, for me, I found this to be a great conclusion to the trilogy of films in this series, and one that provides you action, adventure, drama and more.

The movie was visually amazing with fight scenes and cinematography that draws you into the worlds where you find the characters.

Personally, I loved the characters. You get to see all of the characters that you have come to love such as Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaacs). One character that seemed to get a bit forgotten was the character of Rose Tico. While you see her a bit, the relationship between her and Finn seems to disappear and her being injured in the previous film was not even addressed which I found a bit strange.  Outside of this I did also like the new characters in the film.

All-in-All I felt that the movie pulled me in and definitely kept me connected from beginning to end. The movie does embody the essence of a Star Wars film. You will get great action, characters and more and for me, it was a great use of my time and I will definitely be watching it again in the future!

My Take on Frozen 2

For me I was so looking forward to seeing Frozen 2. While yes, I am a man, I am also a father of two daughters that simply adored Frozen. All of this being said, we put this up on a pedestal and we were really looking forward to see what would come next. In watching this, I can say that we all loved the movie. The music was memorable and the 80’s ballad in this made my wife and I laugh. Beyond this, we loved how this movie ties up some of the questions from the original movie and keeps it open to possible movies or sequels int he future. The movie was a great sequel and definitely left me with a huge smile on my face. After watching this my daughters and I actually decided to watch this again and you will too!

Playing with Fire

Playing with Fire

In Playing with Fire you find John Cena and others as fire jumpers showing a super masculine, organized atmosphere that gets turned upside down when they rescue three kids from a cabin fire. I can say that my family and I did not know what to expect in this film but we found that it was a fun family movie that was heart-warming, funny, action-filled and more. I loved the “family” that you see in the fire station in the movie and how this family embraces the kids, even when the kids throw their world into a bit of chaos. This is a really feel good movie and of course teaching a lesson, family even not blood related, can be just as happy as a normal family. And no this will not be a normal family which works for all of them. This is a great movie for the whole family!

About the Movie

Called “fun for the whole family” (Mark Pacis, Nerd Reactor) and “full of laughs” (Jamie Mariano, The Movie Elite), the hilarious family comedy PLAYING WITH FIRE debuts on Digital January 21, 2020 and on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand February 4 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

The Digital* and Blu-ray releases deliver even more laughs with wildly funny bonus content.  Sit down with Captain Jake (John Cena) as he reads a bedtime story with an amusing twist; see what you missed in theaters with deleted scenes and laugh-out-loud bloopers; plus, enjoy behind-the-scenes featurettes with the cast.

When firefighter Jake Carson (John Cena) and his team (Keegan-Michael Key & John Leguizamo) rescue three siblings in the path of a wildfire, they quickly realize that no amount of training could have prepared them for their most challenging job yet – babysitting. While trying to locate the children’s parents, the firefighters have their lives, jobs and even their fire station turned upside down and learn that kids – much like fires – are wild and full of surprises.

BONUS FEATURES ON BLU-RAY COMBO & DIGITAL*

  • Storytime with John Cena
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Bloopers
  • Lighting Up The Laughs
  • The Director’s Diaries: Read By Star Cast
  • What It Means To Be A Family
  • The Real Smokejumpers: This Is Their Story

The PLAYING WITH FIRE DVD includes the feature film in standard definition.
