My Take on the film

This is an amazing film and one that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I was intrigued by the bringing together of the multiverses and loved seeing all of the characters coming together in one place for an ultimate showdown. The writing was strong, acting superb and to be hones by the end I was hoping to see more of these actors together as the future continues. While Peter has to make some difficult choices, I still want the best for this friendly neighborhood hero and I am hoping for the best as future movies continue. Also, this movie opens the door to the future of the multiverse with Doctor Strange and beyond and I cannot wait to see what is next. In my opinion, I thought this movie was one of the best Spider-Man movies thus far!

Marvel Movies Your Kids Need To Watch This Spring

April 27, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Marvel ComicsImage by Ralph Leonard Poon from Pixabay

As a parent, one of the biggest challenges you face is entertaining the kids while they are at home. From giving them books to read, a craft table to play with, or bringing them to the park for football – there are many choices you can make but many of them involve active involvement.

If you are looking for a way to keep the kids entertained while you do other things around the house this week – TV is a great idea. There are various types of gadgets your kids can enjoy throughout the day but TV is always a great way to keep them calm and out of trouble while you do things around the house.

Today we want to talk specifically about Marvel Movies and the MCU. If your child has never seen a Marvel movie before – we have some great choices to start them off with that will introduce them to key characters, teach them important moral lessons, and provide them with entertainment.

Avengers Assemble

The first film you should get your children to watch this spring is Avengers Assemble which came out in 2012. This is the first team-up for the titular team and will allow your children to get to know some of the best superheroes around in a fun story that has many layers. This movie features Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, and Black Widow and is a brilliant action and adventure film all around.

Iron Man

Iron Man is a film that came out in 2008 and is the birth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iron Man, or Tony Stark, is a selfish billionaire who learns throughout the film how to become a hero and put others first. There is some amazing action in this film as well as humor making it a perfect choice for the kids at the weekend.

Captain America: Civil War

Steve Rogers is perhaps the most stereotypical hero in the whole MCU. His courage and good heart make him the perfect role model for your kids. This third installment in his trilogy features the biggest cast of superheroes before Infinity War and it also introduces the world to Spider-Man and Black Panther for the first time. You child will love the epic airport battle as well as seeing all of their favorite heroes interacting together for the first time.

Ant-Man

Ant-Man might have a silly name but this film is not only funny but also an example of a brilliant heist movie. Your kids will love the playful way that Paul Rudd portrays Scott Lang and you’ll be able to see some hilarious action sequences including a giant Thomas the Tank Engine toy. It is a great movie to watch for a laugh as well as a relatable superhero that shows anyone is capable of greatness if they just work for it and believe.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its epic films as well as the intricate plot that weaves through every film. But as well as this, each hero has a story, and lessons are learned throughout that your children can also learn positively from.

My Take on the Movie

As someone that saw all of the Marvel Universe movies leading up to this one, I was very excited about seeing this movie and seeing how they pulled everything together in the end. Not that this is the last Marvel Universe movie, but it is the end of an era in many cases and the start of something new as well. I felt that the movie did a great job at bringing together the many stories into one cohesive story that tied up most of the loose ends in the end. The movie was action packed and had its’ share of drama throughout. While there was plenty of CG, there also was great acting throughout as well. I have to say that I loved the action scenes and even though it is a long movie, you will be sitting on the edge of your seat throughout and the time flies by before you know it.  This movie really does pull together all of the characters that have made the Avengers franchise shine. You will love seeing them both together and alone. You will love the action sequences and seeing the war happen is totally remarkable. I will not give out spoilers if you have not seen it, but it is worth the time and the build up and Marvel tied this series up well in my opinion!

Captain Marvel – Girl Power in Action

June 15, 2019 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Captain Marvel

My Take on the Movie
As a father of girls I was very excited to be able to introduce my daughters to Captain Marvel. As a comic book fan Captain Marvel has always been a favorite of mine because of the powers that she had but also because of the heart that she brought to the page and to her role as a superhero. I don’t know if my daughter is as excited as I was to see the movie but in leaving the movie I can tell you that they loved every minute of the movie experience.

If you have not seen this movie yet I highly recommend that you do. It gives some back story that will help you to better understand Avengers Endgame as well. Also, as a person that grew up in the 1980’s I loved all of the references and fine detail that was put into the movie to allow the 1980’s to shine. There truly was a huge amount of detail, down to the movies that were on the shelves at Blockbuster.

Beyond this, the movie also has a great story behind it. I knew a lot of the backstory Captain Marvel, but this allows you to experience it in a whole new way. You also will not be lost if you have never read or if you don’t know anything about this character. The nice thing about the movie is it could easily stand alone from other superhero films , in my opinion.

There also is a sense of girl power that is in this movie that was refreshing. In other superhero movies there have been some female Heroes that have taken in center stage but this movie truly is the first that has allowed a single character that is female to stand out. Well, there may be other movies in the future that will do something similar, this movie is one that paved the way for others to follow.

All-in-all this was a movie that I loved and I would highly recommend this to any superhero fan.

Time for an Ant-Sized Movie Night Watching Ant-Man & The Wasp

October 14, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Ant-Man & The Wasp

This past weekend my kids and I decided to have an Ant-Sized Movie Night watching the new Ant-Man & the Wasp movie. If you have yet to see Ant-Man & The Wasp, this movie follows Scott Lang who is a father grappling with the consequences of his choices as the superhero ‘Ant-Man’ in the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War.”
Ant-Man & The Wasp
As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.
Ant-Man & The Wasp

My Take on the Movie

My daughters and I loved the new Ant-Man & The Wasp movie. As fans of the first movie and all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, this movie added a lot to the Universe while also setting the stage for a tie-in with the most recent Avengers movie. You see, even in the end of the movie you can see that not only is there is a true tie-in to the Avengers Infinity Gauntlet film and the future of the Marvel Universe and you are left on pins and needles as you want to know what happens next.

Ant-Man and The Wasp

I will say that seeing  the character of Scott Lang doing whatever he could to be a great dad is exactly what I needed the day that I saw it. The movie has some great characters and we loved being able to have an engaging plot as well that brought forward a new “villain.” The movie has a strong plot and humor that will keep you chuckling throughout the movie.

I loved seeing Ant-Man growing and shrinking in size and The Wasp was a great add to this movie, as both characters have to learn to work together. My daughters liked to see a strong female character that stood up for the things that she believed in and so did I.

Ant-Man and The Wasp

If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommended it. I would recommend seeing Ant-Man first to give you some context to what you are seeing in the film itself.

Our Take on the Movie

This was a movie that my whole family was excited about seeing. This past weekend we snuggled down for dinner and a movie!

We have all seen all of the other movies that have led up to this. After seeing this movie I have to say that it is one of the darker of the movies in the Marvel Universe of movies. Throughout the movie you will feel the true threat that is threatening humanity.

A Dog's Purpose Movie Night

This movie brings together so many of the Marvel characters that you have seen over the past 18 films. The movie is non stop action and suspense. You are brought through the entire movie on pins and needles as you wonder what will happen and whether Thanos will collect all of the Infinity stones.

There were so many characters in this movie and what was great was that the movie gave most of the characters great moments. For me I have to say that some of the standouts for me were probably Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and Josh Brolin as Thanos. You believed their relationship as daughter and father respectively and you felt the emotional consequences of their relationship and what that relationship entailed. Thanos also was the main focus of this film. He is an amazing villain! There are points throughout the film that you have to wonder the motivations of Thanos, but there are people I have spoken to that some that have even said that at times they found themselves agreeing with some of Thanos’ reasonings.

Avengers: Infinity War

I will say that you really need to have some concept of the other movies to be able to understand this movie. Also, you need to have some sense of the Marvel Universe in this movie as well because of all of the characters that are in the movie itself.

Overall, this is an amazing comic book movie, but even more so an incredible movie for young and old.

Black Panther Movie Night Fun – Wakenda Forever!

May 15, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

My family and I love to watch movies together and we have been so excited to see the new Black Panther movie as we did not get to see it in the movie theater. Just recently we received a very cool package with some very fun items included to help us to have a very fun movie night together.

This movie arrived at just the right time. We were planning to go and see the new Avengers movie, but had yet to see Black Panther. We quickly opened our box and decided to watch the movie then and there.

It was a cooler day so my daughter and I made some popcorn, and snuggled up under the new Black Panther throw that was sent to us for a fun night of watching this great movie.

What we both loved about this film was that there was action from beginning to end and so many new characters. While we had met some of the characters in Captain America, we did not really know much about Wakenda, but this movie expands the Marvel Universe and allows you to better understand more about Wakenda in general and about the culture as well.

We had a blast watching the movie, but also watching all of the great bonus features to learn more about the movie and the making of the Black Panther film. There were definitely some twists and turns in the film, but in the end it was a well made film that makes you want to see more.

Below are some additional bonus features that I wanted to share with you as they really give you a glimpse into the film itself!10 THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT MARVEL STUDIOS’ BLACK PANTHER

10 THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT MARVEL STUDIOS’ BLACK PANTHER

To celebrate the in-home release of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, we’ve uncovered 10 stellar secrets from the making of the epic super hero saga. The mighty new Marvel movie is released Digitally in HD, 4K Ultra HD™ and Movies Anywhere on May 8 and on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand on May 15. Wakanda forever!

SUPER HERO SECRET #1

THE COMIC BOOKS WERE A HUGE INSPIRATION FOR THE FILMMAKERS

When it comes to the inspiration behind the story of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, director and co-writer Ryan Coogler admits that he delved deep into the history of the acclaimed Marvel comic book series. “We pulled from all of the comics,” Coogler explains. “When you watch our film, you will probably see something from every writer that has touched T’Challa’s character in the Black Panther comics. Everything from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s initial runs through to Don McGregor, Christopher Priest, Jonathan Hickman and Brian Stelfreeze. We grabbed from it all. Each writer left their own mark, so Agent Ross [played by Martin Freeman in the movie] came from Christopher Priest’s run and the character of Shuri came from Reginald Hudlin’s run. Each run left something for us to pull from, but we pulled from absolutely all of them.”

SUPERHERO SECRET #2

THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL ON SET WAS MIND-BLOWING FOR THE ACTORS

“It was incredible to walk on to the Wakandan sets,” enthuses Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye in the movie. “Our production designer, Hannah Beachler, was amazing. I remember walking into the Tribal Council room and thinking, ‘This room is stunning.’ The floors were see-through. There were massive, beautiful panther statues. The throne was very African. The entire décor was very African. It was an amazing experience, which was very rich for my character because I stood there and I thought, ‘This is like nothing else on the planet and it’s my character’s job to protect it.’ Hannah pulled from lots of awesome traditional African esthetics. You don’t get to see it in the movie, but she also designed T’Challa’s office, which was another amazing room on set. We shot some scenes in there, which were left out of the movie – but the office was constructed and it looked amazing.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #3

THE PRODUCTION TEAM TOOK A TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA TO RESEARCH THE MOVIE

“We took a really important trip to South Africa to do a ton of research for Black Panther,” reveals production designer Hannah Beachler. “We went up and down the country, which helped immensely when we started to create the sets. It was incredible to see all the colors, the textiles and the way things were built. In the end, we shot a lot of plates and second unit footage in South Africa. We shot footage in Uganda, which was used to show the farm land and open space of Wakanda. It was beautiful. We also shot at Victoria Falls in Zambia. When the fighters come flying through the falls and get to the challenge pool; that flight through the falls is Victoria Falls. But when you get to the challenge pool, what you see behind them is a bit of Iguazu Falls, which is in South America. We smashed the two together because we wanted a horizon.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #4

SEBASTIAN STAN WAS ONLY ON THE BLACK PANTHER SET FOR ONE DAY

“The tag scene with Bucky [played by Sebastian Stan] at the end of the movie came as a wonderful surprise to me,” explains Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri in Black Panther. “I was so happy when I read about it. Props to Ryan [Coogler] for adding it to the movie. This scene was shot quite late in the production, but I really enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day on set and I thought it was a great way for us to find out where Bucky had been hiding in Wakanda. We shot the scene in a forest area somewhere in Atlanta, but it only took a day. Sebastian was really great to work with. He’s a good chap.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #5

THE IN-HOME RELEASE IS PACKED WITH DELETED SCENES AND OUTTAKES

Marvel fans can delve deeper into the wondrous world of Wakanda with the exclusive bonus features packaged with the in-home release of the movie. Not only are there behind-the-scenes featurettes and never-before-seen outtakes, but there are also a number of deleted scenes. “There are a couple of scenes with Okoye and W’Kabi [played by Daniel Kaluuya] that I would love people to see,” explains Danai Gurira. “There’s a scene between Okoye and W’Kabi, which takes place after Killmonger tells us what he’s going to do with the kingdom. Okoye is very disturbed by her man seeming to positively respond to Killmonger. There’s also a scene where W’Kabi and Okoye go head-to-head. Okoye pushes W’Kabi to a place where all the rage he had towards T’Challa comes out. I hope some of those moments end up in the deleted scenes.”

LUPITA NYONG’O HAD TO LEARN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES FOR THE MOVIE

“The African language that we speak in the movie is Xhosa, which is a Bantu language from South Africa,” reveals Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia in Black Panther. “It has the clicks which my native tongue does not have, so I had to learn it for the movie. I worked very closely with a dialect coach to get it right. I also speak Korean in the film, which was a doozy. A week before we shot the scenes in South Korea, they finalized exactly what Nakia was going to say, so all week I kept practicing the lines over and over again. However, I slipped up from time to time. At one point, the Korean extras laughed because they told me I’d said something about a barbecue by mistake – but we got there in the end.”

LETITIA WRIGHT DISCOVERED SHE’D WON HER ROLE IN A RATHER UNUSUAL PLACE

“The audition process was really interesting,” admits Letitia Wright. “I sent over two tapes from London and I didn’t think anything would happen – but then I got a call asking me to fly out to Los Angeles for a screen test. That’s where I met Ryan [Coogler] and Chadwick [Boseman, who plays T’Challa]. Thankfully, we had an immediate connection. I went home and I didn’t hear anything for a couple of weeks – but then I was called back for another screen test. This time, I flew to Atlanta and they put braids in my hair – and I knew I just had to have fun with the audition. I remember thinking, ‘Man, if this happens, it will be very special for me.’ A couple of weeks later, I found out they wanted me for the role of Shuri. I was standing at a bus stop in London when the call came through. I went crazy! I was screaming at the bus stop! I was overjoyed to be part of this epic movie.”

CAST MEMBERS HAD TO TACKLE A GRUELING SIX-WEEK BOOT CAMP

Before the cameras started to roll on Black Panther, cast members flew out to Atlanta to prepare for the movie’s awe-inspiring action sequences. “The boot camp lasted six weeks,” reveals Danai Gurira. “It was really helpful to get athletically conditioned for the film shoot, although we also got into the specifics of the movements of our characters. We learned fight choreography, as well as different techniques of how our character was going to move on set. It was intense, but I learned a lot. Okoye is the general of the army and the head of the Dora Milaje, so the way she fights is very traditional. Her movement with the war spear comes from very ancient movements of the nation. It was really interesting to learn.”

THERE WERE RAP BATTLES BETWEEN THE ACTORS ON SET

An exclusive gag reel has been created for the in-home release, which is packed with comedy bloopers and slapstick slip-ups from the set of the movie. “There were a lot of funny moments during the filming of Black Panther,” recalls Letitia Wright. “Even though the shoot was a lot of hard work and there were some incredibly physical scenes, we always found moments to have fun. We had rap battles in between takes, or we organized dinners and bowling sessions. There was a day where we did a Get Out challenge, because we had [Get Out star] Daniel Kaluuya working with us. Who won the rap battles? To be perfectly honest, I think I was the best. I was up against a lot of people, but their rapping skills were terrible.”

LOOK CLOSELY AT THE MOVIE’S KIMOYO BEADS FOR HIDDEN QUALITIES

Hannah Beachler admits she had a ton of fun working on the high-tech gadgets for the movie. “The Kimoyo beads are my favorite,” the production designer admits. “I really pushed the design on them because I knew the beads needed to be something really cool. The Kimoyo beads were originally introduced in the Black Panther comics – but Ryan [Coogler] loved the idea of using them for communicating in the movie. If you look closely at the beads, you’ll see there’s a prime bead, which is given to you when you’re born in Wakanda. There is a little peak on the prime bead, which makes it stand out from the others. All the beads’ symbols light up, but the prime bead lights up completely. A Nigerian language – nsibidi – is used for the symbols on the beads. You’ll also see nsibidi writing on columns of some of the iconic buildings in Wakanda, too.”
