I have talked before that I like to stay and eat healthy, and one of the ways that I do this is through making smoothies in the morning. I am a purist when it comes to this and really try to use everything in the fruits and vegetables that I eat. This being said, I have been hearing lately the benefits of juicing fruits and vegetables and the health benefits that you can get from this as well. I guess Champion Juicer heard of my health kick and they reached out to see if I would give their new Champion Juicer 3000 a try. I said, what the heck and jumped into it with both feet, even though I really had a lot to learn.

When this arrived, I first was completely amazed at how heavy duty this was. This was not a simple blender or light-weight machine. Instead, it weight a bit and definitely was larger than I was used to with the smaller machine that I had used to make smoothies in the past. This was not a negative, but just an observation!

I decided to jump into trying out some juices. Now, you can probably think of quite a few fruits or vegetables that would contain more juice than others such as watermelon, cantaloupe, oranges, apples celery, and cucumber. However, I also found that you can get quite a bit of juice out of kale, carrots, strawberries and a few others. I have yet to try beets, but I hear that they are great. Nor have I tried tomatoes, though I know I would get quite a bit there too.

Champion-Juicer

As you can see in the pictures above you do get quite a bit of juice from this Champion Juicer. You also get a bit of by-product too. I ended up taking the byproduct, mixing it with a bit of the juice or other juice and yogurt and turning that into a smoothie. So, you see, I get the best of both worlds with this Juicer (I don’t know if you are supposed to do that, but it seems like a good idea to me!)!

I looked at the Champion Juicer website and they have a ton of great juice recipes that I am looking forward to trying myself. That being said, I have included a few of them below for you to get a sense for the mixtures!

Quick Juice Recipes
Orangeade
2 oranges, peeled
1 lemon, peeled
1/2 cup raw sugar
Juice oranges and lemon. Add sugar to juice. Rerun pulp. Add water to make 1 quart. Serve with ice cubes.

2 apples, cored
1 medium beet
1 orange, peeled
3 carrots
Juice together in the order given.
Rose
1/2 pineapple, peeled
1/2 slice lemon
1/2 cup fresh cranberries
3 tablespoons raw sugar

Rich-Blood
6 tomatoes

Chlorophyll
1/2 cup water
7 almonds
4 teaspoons sunflower seeds
4 pitted dates
1 pound spinach, OR other dark leafy green vegetable

Soak the nuts and dates in water overnight. Assemble the Champion for juicing. Run the mixture through the machine alternating it with approximately 1 lb. or leafy greens, such as spinach, comfrey, parsley, etc. Add a slight amount of water to the discarded pulp and rerun through the machine to completely extract all the values.

Spicy Jess Green Juice Recipe

1/2 bunch cilantro, cut into 3-inch length
1/2 bunch parsley, cut into 3-inch length
1 cucumber
1/2 to 1 jalapeno pepper, seeds removed
1 clove garlic
1 lemon
1-inch knob of ginger
Wash all the ingredients and run them through the juicer. Rerun pulp through juicer, being careful to wash your hands after handling jalapeno pulp. Substitute vegetables to your taste! 3 cups juice
Creamy Broccoli Soup
1 onion
1 stalk celery
1 tablespoon butter
6 cups broccoli florets and stems
1 potato
4 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup cream, optional
Ground black pepper and salt to taste
Shredded Cheddar cheese, optional
DIRECTIONS:
Using blank screen, puree onion and celery. Melt butter in medium stockpot, sauté onion and celery until tender. Using blank screen, puree broccoli and potato; add to pot. Mix any resulting vegetable juice and broth to make 5 cups. Simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes. Stir in cream, if desired. Season with pepper and salt, and serve with Cheddar cheese. Makes 8 cups.

Cheribundi ( @cheribundi ) Review and #Giveaway

February 9, 2013 by dadofdivas 2 Comments

Cheribundi
If you aren’t familiar with this product, Cheribundi is a premium tart cherry juice.  As you may know, tart cherries offer many benefits for runners, climbers and other athletes, as well as those suffering from gout, arthritis and inflammatory disease.  Runners in particular find that tart cherry juice reduces pain and inflammation, and aids in muscle recovery.  Tart cherries also contain natural melatonin, which promotes more restful sleep. You can learn more about Cheribundi, our original flavors and the benefits of tart cherries on our web site at www.cheribundi.com.
Starting January 1, Cheribundi introduced 16.9 oz juice and tea blends that contain 20 cherries per bottle but are aimed more at the casual beverage consumer rather than athletes.  The drinks are hydrating and are meant to be something you might drink with lunch rather than something you’d use as a supplement.

My Take on the Product
I am a big fan of healthy eating and using juices to make my own life healthier. I actually usually have a smoothie every morning is made for 100% fruit and vegetables. Thus, you can probably guess that I am kind of a stickler when it comes to good tasting juices that are good for you. I’ve heard of this company before but never tried their products ( the I have wanted to). I am also a big fan of cherries, so this time of year it is hard to find them in the local grocery stores is because of where I live ( in Michigan).
First and foremost when I received the juices/teas I was quite impressed with the variety that I received as it was not expecting as fast of a variety as was available. I decided to jump right in and tried one which is a combination of cherry and pomegranate him and it had 25% fruit juice within it ( there was a mix of juices that had 25% and some that had 5% fruit juice). In trying this juice I was quite impressed with the taste itself. There is a slight cherry taste that underlines the overall taste of the pomegranate itself which is very nice and quite refreshing.
I did like what I tried though I probably would have also enjoyed to have tried something with a higher juice content within it… to me 5% is quite low and even 25% is lower than I typically would drink. I think there may have been issues though if the content of the juice was closer to 100% due to the tartness of the cherries themselves.

Owillverall, I was quite impressed with the variety and taste of the juice and tea samples that I received. If you enjoy cherries this new product is definitely one you want to take a look at and definitely try for yourself. I think you too will find that it is a nice blend of cherries and other fruits/teas that will both refresh you and tickle the taste buds.
