Inside Out Comes To Disney Infinity!

Inside Out Characters are introduced to Disney Infinity 3.0
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

As all of you know my kids and I are BIG  fans. We love making worlds in the toybox and exploring the worlds and games that have been set up by the great people at Disney too. As fans of this, we have been very excited about the release of the Star Wars themed Disney Infinity sets in the 3.0 launch, but even moreso, we were excited about the addition of too.

Recently I was sent the Inside Out Disney Infinity characters to try out with my daughters and I have to say that they did an amazing job first at capturing the essence of the characters in the figurines. Beyond this though, the inside out characters and games that were included were so much fun to play as a family. The game is fun, colorful and a great game that you could play with friends or by yourself!

The Inside out set was funny and age appropriate for our youngest child (age 7). The majority of game play is done in the toy box hub or toy box creations sections of the game.

You really get to control the game and the characters and no matter who your favorite character is, you truly can take control and get into the mind of the emotions that you want to control yourself!

So get into Inside Out in a whole new way with Disney Infinity Inside Out characters!

Inside Out Toys & DVD/Blu-ray is Now Available Everywhere! #InsideOutEmotions

November 6, 2015 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Inside Out Is Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD
Inside Out Emotions are shown through the new Tomy toys that are available for all ages!

I am so excited that Inside Out is now out on DVD! My kids, well, who am I kidding, the whole family loved this movie when it initially came out, and we knew walking out of the theater that this would be in our movie library too. As the movie got closer and close to being released my girls had been seeing all of the amazing toys that are also out in the stores and online and they have been clamoring for them. This was especially true when it came to Joy and Anger toys. Don’t ask me why these characters specifically, but each daughter had their favorites, my oldest loved Anger and my youngest loved Joy!

Inside Out Is Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD

Recently I took a trip to my local Walmart because I wanted to surprise my girls with some Inside Out today to celebrate the release of the Inside Out movie this week. Before going to the store, I checked out all of the amazing Inside Out toys that were on the Walmart website. I did not know what I would find in store specifically, but I was impressed with the variety that I found online.

Because I went to the store on November 3, I also decided to pick up the Inside Out movie too. My kids had no idea I was going to surprise them like this so this was going to be a ton of fun!

Inside Out Toys

After I found the movie, I went to check out the toys and specifically what they had in regards to the Anger and Joy characters. In going to the store I had to search a bit to find what was there.

InsideOutToys

It took a little bit of looking around to find the TOMY toys at Walmart, but when I did I was lucky enough to find exactly what I was looking for. As mentioned, the characters of Anger and Joy were the two characters that resonated with my girls, and as luck would have it, those were the two characters that they had. So I purchased both!

Inside Out Is Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD

As I took the movie and TOMY toys home I can tell you that the girls were ecstatic. They jumped up and down and they were so on board with having a movie night then and there! We pulled out the movie and popped some popcorn – it was as  amazing watching this the second time as it was when we saw it in the movie theater!

Remember that Inside Out is now available for purchase and as you can see there are some great TOMY toys too that will truly make the movie come live, and open up the imagination of your kids too!

Be sure to pick up your copy of Inside Out at Walmart!. I’d love to hear about your DVD watch party plans!

Riley’s First Date : An Interview With Josh Cooley & Mark Nielsen

November 5, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Riley's First Date
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

As most of you know I attended a special Disney. Pixar & Disney Junior event from September 29-October 2 in San Francisco to take part in a fun few days of exploring the movies, Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur and Miles From Tomorrowland. It was an amazing few days and it is my pleasure to share some of my experiences with you!

On the first day there we spent all day meeting cast as well as the Directors of the movie Inside Out. As a HUGE fan of the movie, I was really excited to have the opportunity to talk to these wonderful people and let them tell their side of the story and share with me what the movie meant to them.

Today I am sharing with you some of my experiences interviewing Josh Cooley and Mark Nielsen of Riley’s First Date, the animated short being released with Inside Out .

Riley's-First-Date

As someone that loved Inside Out and who also the short film Riley’s First Date I was both excited to meet and talk with Josh Cooley and Mark Nielsen. I love getting into the minds of the animators and creatives that make such amazing content for us.

Both of these gentlemen were as humble as can be when it came to their film. I was first impressed to find out that it took only 10 months to create this short. They said that it was shorter than many of the previous shorts because they simply kept filming and working on it once the Inside Out Feature film was completed. They explained that it was easier to do this because they had talent on hand and the creative team was still assembled.

They both have daughters themselves, so they truly wanted to bring to life the family dynamic, but in specific, they wanted to be able to show the relationship between father and daughter. For both the theme of this short hit close to home. While they both said they did not know if they would be able to bond in the same way as Riley’s dad, they still hoped that they could relate to the boy in some way.

When they were first making this short they thought that it would be more from the daughters’ point of view, but they soon found that it was not this at all. Instead, it was about the parents having to let go of their daughter and let her move forward with her life. As any parent knows this is not easy, and I truly feel that they captured this well in a humorous way for the viewer.

We also talked about the Inside Out feature film too, and found that Josh Cooley himself was the voice of the clown in the feature film and another voice in the short. They explained that at times, they use “scratch voice” individuals to step in for a voice before they have talent in place and sometimes the “scratch voice” actor becomes the voice for the part in general.

Speaking of voices, one of the voices you hear in the head off the boyfriend in the short was Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

In talking with both Josh Cooley and Mark Nielsen we found out that the concept for Riley’s First Date really did not change from inception to completion. All that really changed were some of the things throughout that were added to make it better such as the dad playing the guitar.

It was so much fun getting to get behind the scenes of Inside Out and Riley’s First Date with Josh Cooley and Mark Nielsen and I hope you learned a ton from what I shared!

Riley’s First Date & My Interview With Kyle MacLachlan & Kaitlyn Dias of Inside Out

November 3, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Rileys-First-Date-Dad

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Today I am sharing with you some of my thoughts on the short from the Movie Inside Out, Riley’s First Date and on the interview with Kyle MacLachlan and Kaitlyn Dias.

Riley’s First Date is the story of just that, Riley having her first date and the internal and external reactions from mom, dad, Riley, and her date Jordan. The short was a ton of fun and one of the things that was very cool form the very beginning was that the same voices were used throughout the actual movie and the short. There were some new voices inside of Jordan’s head including Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Inside-Out

The short was special for me as I could easily put myself in the shoes of the dad, Kyle MacLachlan’s character as he has to deal with his own feelings of letting go. There was comedy as well as touching moments. I have to say that I can only hope to be that cool when my daughters have their first dates (when they are 25 or so).

The short is one that I know people will love, and just wait until you see the inside of the boyfriend, Jordan’s head – it is amazing and the voices were epic!

In regards to the interview with Kyle MacLachlan and Kaitlin Dias, I was very excited to meet both of these actors. While I knew the body of work that Kyle has done in the past, much has been geared toward adults and this was completely different which was refreshing and new and Kaitlyn was a brand new, young actress which really captured the essence of the character Riley.

Inside-Out

What was interesting from the beginning in this movie was the journey of this film. We learned that the film took about 5 years to complete. Kaitlyn Dias mentioned that she started work on the film as a scratch voice (a voice used as a fill in for a character while they are in pre-production) and they approached her about being the actual voice. She started this when she was 11 and now she is 16. She talked about the changes that she went through herself during this time, and how she had to physically raise the pitch of her own voice to keep it consistent with what she had started with years before.

Kyle MacLachlan explained that being a part of this movie was a pleasure, as it is a film that he can share with his own seven-year old son. He actually told us the story of the first time his son saw the film and all of the questions that he had afterward. He let us know how much the film allowed his son to now articulate the emotions that he had, which was part of the power of this film in general.

Someone asked Kyle how he felt about being a Disney Dad now and also being listed as one of the top sexy Disney Dad and his response? “I’ll reign for a few weeks and then get bumped off.”

We also asked Kyle MacLachlan about whether he was an ACDC fan, as he really rocks out on this with Tiley’s boyfriend Jordan in the short, but Kyle confessed that if he was being honest it is Led Zeppelin that really holds his passion!

Both actors stated that they put a lot of themselves into their characters. Kaitlyn Dias specifically mentioned that you see a lot of her, especially in regards to goofball island.

I asked both who was the better hockey player and both agreed that Riley took that honor. Kyle shared a story with us about a trip that he and his family took to Rockefeller Center. While there, they went ice skating and it was his son that had to lead him around the ice holding up his dad.

We talked to both about their favorite characters in the movie. Kaitlyn Dias mentioned that Anger probably was hers as she mentioned she loved that “his head explodes” and Kyle MacLachlan said that he loved Joy and he tries to have this for himself on a daily basis. He also talked about how he enjoyed seeing how joy manipulates Sadness at first and how that relationship has to change and the importance of this.

In the end I loved how both of these actors played off of each other in the interview and even though Kyle has been in the business for many years he did an amazing job at drawing Kaitlyn into the conversation too!

My Interview With Phyllis Smith and Richard Kind of Inside Out

October 29, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Richard-Kind

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Today I am sharing with you some of my thoughts from the interview with Phyllis Smith and Richard Kind.

Both of these actors were ones that I deeply respected. Not only because of what they did in this film, but also for what they have produced and been a part of over the years.

Richard-Kind

In preparing for this interview, one of the things I was taken by first was the breadth and depth of the experience that Richard Kind has. If you look at his IMDB page you will see so many television and movie experiences and they have gone back to the start of his career in 1985. I salute you Mr. Kind for the body of work and professionalism you have brought to the industry.

In looking into Phyllis Smith’s background (more info on IMDB) I was struck to see the interesting journey that she went on to be where she is today. She touched on this in her interview as she talked to us about starting as a St. Louis Cardinals cheerleader and dancer, getting injured, and then getting into casting work for about 19 years, as she mentioned, honing her craft without knowing it. She attributed her success to a continual process of working at it. By doing this she said that a new life emerged.

As the bloggers waited to meet with these two actors, the room was charged and you could here Richard and Phyllis coming in and everyone was so excited. As they entered and we clapped, it was so much fun to see the smile on Richard’s face as well as Phyllis taking pictures on her own cell phone!

Richard-Kind

While we did not have a lot of time with them, they were both very open and honest in their interview.

Phyllis shared that she never really realized how popular Sadness was, while Richard quickly retorted that in fact she was popular, which led to laughs from the room. Richard continued though in saying that he felt that Sadness really was something that everyone related to and that Phyllis was perfect for the role as she portrayed the character as down in the dumps, not depressing, just sad.

Phyllis explained that to get into her character she did not sit around thinking about horrible things. Instead she did whatever she could to be truthful with the scene or the line and allow people to experience the emotion. She and Richard Kind both mentioned that both Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera did an amazing job at working with the actors to help them to embody their characters by supporting them and encouraging them. Sometimes this meant trying a line numerous ways to make sure that the message of the line was being received in the right way!

Richard Kind talked about his character, Bing Bong. He told us that he truly loved playing Bing Bong. He told us that in creating the character he put a lot of himself in the character. He told us that he is energetic and sees himself as a nice man with ethics and morals and he saw this in his character too. He also said that he appreciated that Bing Bong was free of negativity and though Richard said that he could not say that he always was free of negativity himself, he tries to emulate Bing Bong in this way as he can.

At the end of the Inside Out interview I asked Richard Kind a question I had been wondering about what he hoped people would take away from the sacrifice that Bing Bong makes. Richard Kind was very open when he told us that he really did not interpret what people thought of Bing Bong. Instead he said that he would leave that to religious people. I thought it was very touching and true when he said to us “I don’t think. I just interpret.” Well, Richard Kind, you interpreted the character of Bing Bong perfectly and your interpretation will live on for years to come!

This was an amazing interview and we had a ton of fun doing interacting with them!

My Interview With Peter Docter & Jonas Rivera of Inside Out

October 27, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

The Disney Pixar movie Inside Out
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Today I am sharing with you some of my thoughts from the interview with Director, Peter Docter & Producer, Jonas Rivera.

My interview with Director, Peter Docter and Producer, Jonas Rivera of the Disney Pixas movie Inside Out

I was so excited to be able to be interviewing Peter Docter and Jonas Rivera on the first day. Why, you might ask? Well, as someone that has been a fan of Pixar for years, I loved what Peter Docter did on movies such as , , , , and and while I did not know Jonas Rivera as much, I was in awe at what they created together in Up and in Inside Out and was interested to hear more about the creative process and more.

As Peter Docter and Jonas Rivers started their conversation with us, I was so impressed with how open and honest they were as well as how close of a team that they were in regards to their working relationship and how they thought. I was first surprised to find out that it took five years to bring Inside Out to the screen. While you can guess how much goes into the making of a movie like this, I would have had no idea that it could take that long.

We talked about a lot in regards to the movie, but one of the first questions out of the mouths of the bloggers in attendance was whether there would be a sequel. Unfortunately, their answer was no as they said that “what wakes us up in the morning is the idea of creating something new.” Don’t be too sad though as they said that if you liked Inside Out know that they already have some ideas that the two of them are working on already and they are very excited about them!

In regards to Inside Out, both Peter Docter and Jonas Rivera both said that they felt that they have the greatest job in the world. They were also very happy at the success of the movie. They said that “we knew we liked it” but they “never dreamed it would be received s broadly.”

My interview with Director, Peter Docter and Producer, Jonas Rivera of the Disney Pixas movie Inside Out

When you think of the inside of the mind that was depicted in the movie Inside Out Peter Docter and Jonas Rivera told us that the first depiction in the creation of the movie was that of a spaceship and from there they created the headquarters that you ended up seeing in the film itself. They also talked about the process of creating the islands and areas of the brain that were explored and how there were some areas that were considered but not used such as: The Stream of Consciousness and Brain Washing. In all they saw the brain and how it was set up kind of like Disney Land.

We asked Peter Docter and Jonas Rivera about the evolution of the character Bing Bong. They told us that “at the beginning we thought it was about growing up. Then we figured out that it really was from the adult stand-point.” Bing Bong was the character that they said embodied the overall film. They expounded further and said that in the end it is Bing Bong who gets to represent the message of the film.

The other characters that you see in the control room came about after many tries. There were many other characters that were also in the mix, but after trying all of the ideas through many situations and scenes it was Anger, Disgust, Fear, Joy and Sadness that remained in the end.

While the movie of Inside Out is behind us both Peter Docter and Jonar Rivera both stated that it only took about 45 minutes from the idea being born that they both hoped that Inside Out would be a part of one of the Disney theme parks. They shared that they were so pleased to see that both Joy and Sadness are already a part of the park,  “they’re beautiful, and just seeing them there is really a treat for us.” So in the end, they, and I, hope that Disney acts on this and brings forward some of the fun worlds seen in the mind for all of the world to explore and enjoy together – only time and the creative imagination of Disney will tell!

A large thank you to Disney for bringing Peter Docter and Jonas Rivers to meet with us. Also, thank you too Peter Docter and Jonas Rivera for being so open and honest with all of us! It was so wonderful to turn the minds of Peter Docter and Jonas Rivera Inside Out!

I’m Heading to San Francisco For An Amazing Event!

September 6, 2015 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Disclosure: I am being provided with an all-expense paid trip as part of a press Junket with Disney in exchange for my press coverage.  All opinions are 100% my own.

#GoodDinoEvent-#MilesEvent-#Waltagram-Disney-Event

As many of you know I had the amazing experience about a year ago to go out to California to experience the press junket and viewing of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie as well as a number of ABC Family shows and the movie Hundred Foot Journey. I had an amazing experience at this event and I am VERY excited to be heading back to California at the end of this month to be able to experience and report back to you great information on the new movie, The Good Dinosaur as well as a number of different other experiences.

These trips are whirlwind adventures, but they are definitely exciting. On this trip some of the things we will be doing include:

  1. Viewing and Learning More about the new Disney Pixar Film, The Good Dinosaur

About the Movie
Have you ever sometimes wondered what it would be like if animals, moreover, dinosaurs roamed the world as we humans do everyday?  “The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?  Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of. In theatres on November 25th!

2. Celebrate the Release of Disney’s Inside/Out With a Press Junket!

Inside-Out

My family and I are big fans of this movie and I am looking forward to hearing from some of the actors form this film too. I have yet to find out who I will be meeting, but I know that it will be eye-opening and a ton of fun too!

About the Movie

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (MindyKaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

3) Seeing and Learning About the new Short, Sunjay’s Super Team

I have always wanted to go behind the scenes to explore the Pixar Animation Studios and I will be at the end of the month! During this day I will be having an exclusive press day trip to Pixar where I will also be able to interview some of the amazing and talented filmmakers and animators of The Good Dinosaur as well as learn more about Disney Junior’s Miles From Tomorrowland at Google Headquarters and interview with some of the voice talent from the show.

About Miles From Tomorrowland

Disney Junior’s “Miles from Tomorrowland” is an intergalactic adventure that charts the outer space missions of young adventurer Miles Callisto and his family – mom and ship captain, Phoebe; mechanical engineer dad, Leo; tech-savvy big sister, Loretta; and best friend robo-ostrich pet, Merc – as they help connect the galaxy on behalf of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Miles, Merc and the Callisto family explore wondrous and diverse new worlds, taking young viewers and their families on a futuristic journey designed to fuel kids’ natural interest in space, and at the same time reminding them of the importance of what lies close to home – the family bond.
