Knowing When to Ask for Help When You Need It

Knowing When to Ask for Help When You Need It

Being a single parent can be tough. You need to learn to ask for help when you need it, because there will be times when you don’t have everything figured out. It can be difficult for anyone to adjust to parenthood, but these feelings can be heightened when you are going solo. The important thing to remember is that people want to help you. Here are five key times when you need to ask for help in all areas of your life:

  1. Getting Advice and Learning

The first thing all single father’s need to do when they have a child to raise is to ask for help in raising her. Most things parents do is instinctual, and they do it because they believe it is best for their child. You will have these instincts in abundance, but you may not have the confidence to act on them. Do not be afraid to ask friends and family for advice: you do not have to take it, but it’s always good to hear about other people’s experiences. As your confidence grows, you will find that you need to seek out advice less and less: you are on learning curve just as much as your child is!

  1. Delegating Tasks

When you’re a parent, you’re going to be busy. You are going to have to juggle your child and work, and still try to fit in time for your friends and yourself, too. To be able to keep all of the plates spinning, you need to get comfortable with  delegating certain tasks. This could mean anything from getting help to find the perfect daycare to babysitting duties, to even seeing if someone can cover you at work when your child is sick. All you need to do is do your best, and know when to ask for help. Doing too much at once is how you’ll fail and burn yourself out. Los Angeles is a fast-paced city, and you need to keep up.

  1. Getting Help When in Trouble

When you’re busy, it’s easy to let things slip through the cracks. A big reason that many people might find themselves in trouble with the law is because their taxes are incorrect. When this happens, don’t fret, instead, ask for help. Instead of getting help from your friends and family, however, you need to contact a Los Angeles tax attorney. They will help fix your issues and allow you to move on with your life, instead of stressing out about juggling a child and a career on top of dealing with the IRS.

Single parents of either gender face the same struggles. The difference between single mothers and single fathers, however, is the societal norms. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you are out of your depth or you are strung far too thin. You may feel alone, but you are not. Reach out to family, friends and professionals who can help you in your time of need.

I need your help!

November 3, 2009 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

Over the past month I have been doing a number of reviews over on my Dad of Divas Review site. I have been struggling on whether I should continue having both a review site as well as this site or if both should be one. In the survey that I asked everyone to fill out, I heard from a few of you and it was about 50/50 in regards to whether I should remove reviews altogether from Dad of Divas.

So now I am asking all of you for your help in shaping what Dad of Divas becomes in the future. What are your thoughts on combining the two sites?

Literary Agent Needed

August 7, 2009 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

I ahve a high school friend that is working on a book that sounds like a very powerful topic. It surrounds her life and her battle with illness for the past 20+ years and how she has overcome this and become that much of a stronger person (I am not giving the text all of the credit that it worth). I am trying to assist her with making this book a reality and was hoping to be able to find a literary agent she might be able to work with to make this book happen. Anyone out there have any contacts?

Blog Site Look

May 11, 2008 by dadofdivas 3 Comments

So…I have been playing with the look of the site and somewhat like how it is going though I would love to be able to use more of the screen and the dang templates on blogger only use one side bars… any ideas from anyone out there? I like how Deb over at Mom of 3 Girls’ site looks, but I definitely don’t have the tech expertise that I know her hubby has (who may have helped with the site) (If not…sorry Deb!) … So if anyone has any ideas please comment back!
