Game Review – Mario Golf: Super Rush

August 1, 2021 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Mario Golf: Super Rush

About the Game

Tee off with family and friends in this content-packed Mario Golf game
Hit the green with up to four players locally* or online** and golf with familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters. Modes range from Standard Golf to the energetic Speed Golf and an RPG-like golf adventure in story mode. Intuitive motion or button controls, a shot gauge that adapts to the curve of the course, and other new features make it easy for both new players and seasoned pros to drive and putt with power.

Swing simultaneously and make a break for the ball in Speed Golf
Tee off at the same time with up to three other players* and race through the course to get your ball in first. Outpace and interrupt your opponents with dashes and special shots. Mario, for example, can blow other players’ balls away.

Rise through the ranks of golf training in story mode
Enroll your Mii character in golf training in a prestigious country club and go from rookie to pro! You’ll face off against your Mushroom Kingdom classmates and earn experience points. Level up to improve your character’s stats like power, movement, and spin. You can bring your character (and their customized stats) into other modes, too!

My take on the game

This was my first experience in trying out Mario Golf games and for me this was a ton of fun. I tried out solo mode and party mode and I enjoyed both versions. I was surprised to find that the versions can really bring you hours of fun. As you progress through the game you will find that each round is different and a ton of fun. In the multiplayer mode you get to go off and chase the ball against your friends and this makes it all part of the fun. In the solo mode you can really work on perfecting your craft too which makes the game even more fun and you can really challenge yourself to get better and better.

I loved the amount of characters you could choose from and the different modes of the game allows you to try things in many different ways and makes the game seem different depending on the mode itself. In the adventure mode you are brought in as a rookie golfer and you have to go around the map, talking to people and learning on how best to work within the game, with the controls and more.

Rush mode was a lot of fun because it encourages you to play your ball faster to get your ball into the hole first.

If you love golf and Mario, this is a great game that I would highly recommend to all!

In DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power you get to join the fight as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl from the animated series DC Super Hero Girls, and save Metropolis from the tinkering terror of Toyman! With the city in danger, even frenemies like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Star Sapphire will need to band together to help protect the town. Each Super Hero and Super-Villain has a unique set of abilities: for example, Wonder Woman uses her warrior skills with the Lasso of Truth and Flying Shield while Harley Quinn wields her Pop Roulette blaster that fires off mischievous effects to do both a little good and a little bad at the same time.

Freely explore the city as teenagers

Explore Metropolis as your alter ego: a high school teenager. Take on missions to help out local citizens, put a stop to graffiti in the town, save lost cats, and much more. You can even rebuild the mysterious Hob’s Bay, customizing new buildings to reimagine the area totally in your style. And don’t forget to meet up at the best hangout spots from the show like Metropolis High School and Sweet Justice…both of which happen to be perfect places to snap photos to share on Superstapost.
Power up your super squad

Choose which Super Heroes and Super-Villains you want to recruit for your crime-fighting team, taking on exciting battles and missions throughout the city. Each character can unlock new abilities as you play, so always level up and pick your favorites as the battle rages on. • Save Metropolis with each Super Hero or Super-Villain’s unique abilities by defeating the tinkering terror of Toyman
  • Explore the city like a hero or a regular teenager and visit iconic hangout spots from the show. Metropolis High School and Sweet Justice: here we come! But be careful not to reveal your secret identity
  • Build up Hob’s Bay, an abandoned part of Metropolis, and put your own stamp on its fresh new look

Check out these game images

My Take on the game

I played this for a few hours and found that the game was a lot of fun. You get a good story mixed in with characters you have grown to know and love from the DC Super Hero Girls franchise. There are numerous tasks that you will have to do with different Supers. Some of the tasks are easier than others and some may take you a few tries to get it right, or at least it did for me. You get to flip between RPG mode and a photography mode which allows you to take a break every now and again. You also get some foreshadowing as you will find that both the heroes and villains are at the same school, even though they may not realize it at first. As you move through the game the levels are challenging and each monster or other challenge is different, so you will find that you will stay challenged throughout the game. One of the things that I liked is that the game is fully voiced and even minor characters have a voice. This is a nice touch as not all games offer this. You will find that you can start to build out your world, but then you have to protect what you have built. There are mini games that are fun and you can take pictures and share them on the equivalent of social media in their world. Overall, the game is a ton of fun, and whether you are a DC Super Hero Girls fan or not, it is a fun game for the whole family!

Game Review – Animal Crossing: New Horizons

April 8, 2020 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

About the Game

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you create your own little slice of paradise as you explore, build, and customize your very own deserted island. A cast of charming animal residents including Tom Nook and Isabelle help grow your budding community. Players make the world their own using a wealth of natural resources to craft everything from tools to creature comforts and decorate however they wish. You can even take a break to enjoy a beach sunset while ocean fishing or hunt down insects at the crack of dawn!

  • Build your community from scratch on a deserted island brimming with possibility; Create your personal getaway and customize your character, home, decorations, and even the landscape itself
  • Collect materials to construct everything from furniture to tools! Then, use what you create to give your island a personal touch
  • Watch as the time of day and seasons match real life—even your hemisphere! Each day holds potential for surprises and discoveries
  • Get to know the island residents, garden, fish, decorate, hunt for fossils, and more!

My Take on the Game

I have been a fan since Animal Crossing came out originally so I was extremely interested to see how this new version would hold up to my initial experience. While I have been held-up at home, this game let me create a whole new world (without virus) where I could build a home, make friends and be a productive member of the society. One of the things that I love in this game is that the charm of the first game was not lost in this one, and instead I think it is enhanced even further.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you experience island living. You and two randomly chosen animal island-mates start a new life on a deserted island after purchasing a getaway package from the entrepreneurial raccoon named Tom Nook. You’re handed a tent and a simple set of instructions: build out the island any which way you like, and they truly mean build.

In this game, one of the changes that I see is that you are crafting items from materials collected. This reminded me a bit of Minecraft but with a different type of humor. You don’t really know what will appear next, but you have to be ready for anything. Whether it’s a bathroom towel rack falling from a tree that you can harvest wood from or getting a t-shirt for saying something.

Being able to build in this game is intuitive and simple to do. You’ll find yourself in the menus often as you look up what ingredients are needed to make a furniture, but thanks to New Horizons’ accessible interface it is easy to navigate for all.

One of the cool things that you will experience, if you have never played this game, is experiencing that what happens, happens in real time. So for instance, a character might say “this will happen tomorrow.” When this is said you may think that this means in an hour, but no, it is actually tomorrow. This is something that you have to get used to, as many games do not allow you to experience things in this way, but this game is different and fun in this way.

This game will allow you to tally up hours of game play, which is another great thing for any gamer. The time really flies by, and before you know it, you will also wonder where the time went. The game is fun to play and experience. For any Switch owners looking for something to do during these uncertain times this will definitely allow you to get away from it all for a while. I would highly recommend this game for all.

New Super Lucky's Tale

New Super Lucky's Tale

My Take on the Game

What a fun game! Initially I didn’t know what to expect, but the game starts with a great story that sets up the whole game. While I had not played Lucky before, I found the story to set up the game completely well and as I got into the game I really loved each of the levels.

The game itself was a ton of fun and each level is more and more challenging. There are puzzles as well as levels that will challenge you in numerous ways. For you to pass the levels you have to finish a few different things in each level to be able to collect all of the scattered pages of the book. Some levels were easier than others, but it became a bit of an obsession for me to be able to finish all aspects of every level so I could complete everything. Sometimes this was easy and sometimes not.

New Super Lucky’s Tale is so much fun and while I have not yet gotten to the end of the game yet, I am having a ton of fun trying to get there one level at a time. Lucky is a fun character and you will love getting to know him as you bring him closer to the end of his journey. I for one have loved every minute if this game and you will too!

My take on the game

This was such a fun game. I remember playing the computer game on the Commodore 64 and while this is not digital, the concepts are similar and the game is just as fun. My oldest daughter had not played the game on the computer before so this was a new experience for her. We started the game by watching the instructional video that was included and this greatly helped us better understand what was happening in regards to the game itself. Once we had watched this, the written instructions were a snap and we were ready to go. The game was a lot of fun and you get to work your way back and forth down the game board as you try and reach safety before you all die. While this may

Getting Your Trivia On As a Family

September 3, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Quiz Master: Pop Trivia

Over the last few weeks my family and I have been trying out two new trivia games from Games Adults Play and I wanted to share my experiences with all of you on both of them.

As you know, my family and I love to play games and spend time together as a family, thus, when we find new games to try we are always up for the challenge!

So when we were asked to try the new Quiz Master games from Games Adults Play we said, “why not”

Most of the games at Games Adults Play are made for adults, but these are made for I would say, tweens and above. Because both games are made with Trivia in mind, some of the questions will be harder than others but the games are fun throughout!

Quiz Master: Pop Trivia

Quiz Master: Pop Trivia

About the game

Featuring questions across 6 decades, Quiz Master: Pop Trivia covers every aspect of popular culture from flares to feng shui, Beatlemania to breakdancing, as well as questions on the music we all enjoyed too! For 2 or more players.

Quiz Master: Pop Trivia

Highlights

  • Quiz your family and friends and find out who the Pop culture expert is.
  • Includes 900 questions covering different genres of popular culture over 6 decades.

Quiz Master: Totally Trivia

Quiz Master: Totally Trivia

About the game

Ideally suited to part-time puzzlers and trivia fiends alike, Quiz Master: Totally Trivia is a comprehensive collection of questions covering all aspects of general knowledge. For 2 or more players.

Highlights

  • Quiz your family and friends and find out who the real know-it-all is.
  • Includes 900 questions covering a variety of topics.

My take on the games

Both of these games were a ton of fun. We loved getting into the trivia and trying to see how much we knew. Some of the questions were easier than others to answer. I found that even when I did not know the answer though I did learn a lot from the questions themselves. The rules were easy enough to follow and the kids and I had a fun time playing through the game and because there is not really any board you will be able to bring this trivia game with you anywhere! The game is a ton of fun and the questions were very diverse!

Bottle-Bullseye – A Great Game To Bring The Family Together

June 3, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Bottle-Bullseye

About the Game

Bottle-Bullseye™ was the result of one Dad’s desire to get his children and their friends to play outside one day when he was trying to work from home. Despite countless attempts to promote the mountain of games, toys and sports equipment that were readily available, nothing seemed to keep them occupied for more than a few minutes. Desperate to find a way to get some uninterrupted time to work, the kids were offered $ get help prepare for trash pickup day and to go around the house and empty trash-cans and get the recycle bin out to the curb. After over an hour passed performing this 15-20 minute chore, the perplexed Dad checked to see what they were up to and was surprised to see the sounds he had been hearing were the sounds of bottles being flipped around the house. Happy that they had found something to do but concerned that they would grow bored and wander away from the house, the Dad grabbed some old vinyl floor tile left over from the previous owners of the house and made a few targets for the kids to aim at. The players enjoyed playing for points compared to random shots and the rest is history!

Bottle-Bullseye

One of the things the inventor of the game wanted to be sure to achieve was simplicity. By keeping the standard rules simple, the hope is that players will invite others to play as the rules are easy to learn and follow. Some of the other suggested “Game Modes” are intended to encourage creativity while keeping the basic principles of the game intact. Compared to other sports or games that require a bit of time to understand the rules and advanced game concepts, we believe that Bottle-Bullseye™ can be easily learned and enjoyed in a very short amount of time.

My Take on the Game
You’ve seen kids doing it for the past few years; at the family reunion, in the park, on the bleachers at the ball game… flipping half filled water bottles in the air, trying to get them to rotate *just so* and land upright.  It takes skill, it takes practice and, guess what, it’s kind of fun.  Building on this simple but addictive trend, A game company out of Buffalo, NY, AKE Games, has fleshed out the concepts and formalized them; creating a scoring system, a bullseye mat, and specially designed water bottles in order to bring some structure to the competition.  They call it BOTTLE BULLSEYE.
The flipping bottles provided by the company are sturdier and of a more uniform design than your typical recycled water bottle (no thin, recycled plastic and no ridges or odd shapes) and have a large broad cap.  This is important for scoring because, under AKE’s rules, players not only receive points for landing the bottle upright on its base but BONUS points for managing to land the bottle on its cap.  The thickness and simple design of the bottles makes the “art” of flipping much easier to master.  There are also two “tuning bottles” provided.  These are essentially small squirt bottles which allow players to easily add water to their flipping bottles.
While the design of the flipping bottles was smart, perhaps the most unique aspect of what AKE Games provides is the bullseye mat, which is made from a thick rubber material that is naturally tacky.  It provides an excellent surface for the flipping bottles to land, even when playing on carpet.  As with any target game, the opportunity for more points increases as players manage to land their bottle closer to the bullseye.  There are three different “game modes,” single player, team, and a “melee” or speed version that my kids found to be the most fun.
Bottle-Bullseye
At first glance, some might question why they would want to pay for a game that most have been playing impromptu, and free, for years.  What more do you need other than a half full Absopure bottle and flat surface?  In truth the answer is “not much,” but then again, if you or your kids really enjoy the art of bottle flipping (and clearly many people do, given the number of You Tube videos devoted exclusively to the art and science of the flip) and have been inventing your own house rules to determine who the best flippin’ bottle flipper is, Bottle Bullseye is definitely worth a look.

WONDER WOOL

Collect these bundles in each stage to re-knit a friend, then visit the Yoshi Hut to give Yoshi a fresh new look!

CATCH YOUR BREATH IN MELLOW MODE

Switch in or out of Mellow Mode at any point in the game to give yourself some extra airtime with Yoshi wings. You can also get help from the three adorable Poochy Pups! These curious lil’ fellas will sniff out secrets for you, like hidden passages and items.

SIMPLE TO START, DEVILISHLY DIFFICULT TO FINISH

The gameplay in the Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World game is simple enough to pick up and play, but once you get past the first level, the difficulty steadily increases until even the most experienced gamer will be challenged.

If you do manage to make it through the entire game, even more challenges await, like the Boss Tent, where you test your skills against all the bosses from Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World for a chance to win Bronze, Silver, or Gold Yoshi.

About the Product

  • Exclusive new stages focus on Poochy: Players must time Poochy’s jump to collect beads, and Poochy Pups as they head for the goal.
  • Poochy Pups are curious little helpers who jump on suspicious spots to indicate where players should look for secrets and collectables.
  • Rated “E” for Everyone w/ Mild Cartoon Violence

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World

My Take on the Game

We have been big fans of Yoshi for a long time so we were really excited to try out Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World for ourselves too. In trying out this new game is filled with the great characters you have come to love. You have the woolly goodness that the Yoshi’s world is known for and in the 3DS while it is smaller than what I have played on the WII-U in the past, it was still fun and the graphics were as vibrant as I would have hoped too.

I was a little surprised at first that Poochy was not in this as much as I would have expected. However, I did really like the three poochy pups that follow you around and help you find secrets, and help you get rid of the bad guys too.

My girls loved that the game came with the Poochy Amiibo that you could use to call Poochy to help you defeat other evil characters. Also, the new 3DS systems that are available can read Amiibos directly, which is amazing!

While you don’t use Poochy a lot you will see Poochy in a lot of videos throughout the game.

The gameplay was very fun. The levels were well designed and movement was fluid. So far we have been playing for many hours and it seems that there are many hours more to go. I highly recommend this, especially if you’re a fan of previous Yoshi’s Island games, though this has been the best thus far.
