Lottie’s message for young girls… Be bold, be brave, be you!

Launched in August 2012, Lottie™ is a new, innovative doll for children aged 3- 9. A wholesome antidote to other leading doll brands, Lottie has been purposefully designed under expert guidance, to both look and dress as a regular child – a childlike body shape, no make-up, jewelry or high-heels. Lottie also has the ability to stand on her own two feet, in both a very literal and metaphorical sense. Lottie is fun and educational; an affordable, aspirational ‘pro girl’ doll.

Since her debut, Lottie has won 19 awards in the USA, Canada and UK, including 5 Oppenheim Portfolio Platinum Awards, generated international press coverage and been the beneficiary of positive parent and blogger reviews.

Nenuco Dolls are so Lifelike! #dadchat

August 1, 2014 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Nenuco
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Bringing home a little sister or brother can be daunting for little girls. They don’t just know how to be a big sister. It all starts with imaginative play by caring for a favorite doll.  Nenuco, one of Europe’s most prestigious doll makers, has crafted a line of soft-body baby dolls so that young children everywhere can practice feeding, bathing, dressing and all-around nurturing in preparation for when mommy brings home a new sibling.  With a Nenuco doll and the best role model they could hope for (thanks mom), they’ll be prepared to be the best big sister ever.

The Nenuco brand hails from parent company Famosa, a Spanish toy company that has crafted high-quality dolls with engaging & unique features for the past 50 years.  New this summer is My Little Nenuco which features that sweet new baby smell (yes, smell!) My First Nenuco Kisses will give you a sweet peck when you bring this baby doll close to your face. Last but not least, Nenuco & Her Little Sister feature matching jumper outfits that are sure to please.  All of the above feature an array of high quality accessories that are perfect for imaginative play.  From onesies and pacifiers to Pajamas and footsies, Nenuco has it all.

Nenuco

My Take on the Dolls

My daughters are girly girls… they like dolls and they like being girls. When it comes to dolls they want high quality and they want dolls that look and feel like real babies and Nenuco gives this to kids. The dolls themselves are high quality and they are well constructed. I was impressed with how much they look like real babies. They have soft skin and facial expressions that are very emotive of real people. The eyes seem to look right into you and allow you connect with the doll and with the imaginative play that as a parent I want my kids to be able to experience.  All-in-all my youngest daughter loves her Nenuco dolls and if your child is anything like mine, the will LOVE these dolls too! If you are looking for high quality dolls that are reasonable priced, Nenuco offers this and allows your child to take their creative doll play to the next level! While my youngest daughter will never be a big sister, she loves being a sister and now she can act out this relationship through her dolls too, and you can see how much she loves that!

My thoughts of these items

I had the opportunity to try out two of the above items, one for each of my daughters. The first was the matching sparkle dress for my youngest daughter and her American Girl doll. This matching dress set was beautiful and really made my daughter feel like a princess. She also thought it was so cool to be able to be dressed with her favorite friend. I love that American girl has these sets available and it allows you to let your girls feel special and share something fun with their dolls. The dresses are of high quality and are simply beautiful and for the holiday, the dresses were perfect!

My eldest daughter is completely into Saige, so I was able to get her the Saige painting set and accessories. My daughter is a painter like Saige, so she thought this was awesome! What I love about American Girl is the attention to detail that they put into the dolls and the accessories that they make for all of their dolls and these two kits were no different.

In all of my experiences with American Girl I have to say that I have been completely impressed thus far with their quality as well as the breadth and depth of their collection and their attention to detail. If you have never experienced this great company and their dolls, you definitely should!

You can get free shipping at American Girl until December 9, so act quickly and save some money!

American Girl products are available through the American Girl catalog at 1-800-845-0005, at americangirl.com, and at our American Girl retail stores.

Announcing the 2013 American Girl Doll of the Year

December 30, 2012 by dadofdivas 4 Comments

Saige Copeland, American Girl, 2013I am excited to share some news about the new 2013 American Girl Doll of the Year – Saige!

About Saige

On January 1, 2013, girls everywhere will be inspired by   Saige Copeland, American Girl’s 2013 Girl of the Year®. Saige is a spirited and imaginative young girl who loves painting and horseback riding at her grandma’s ranch in Albuquerque, New Mexico—the hot-air balloon capital of the world. When budget cuts take away art class at school and a horse she loves might be sold, Saige draws on her talents, mobilizes others, and takes action to improve the world around her. Saige’s collection is available for one year; the character comes to life with a beautiful 18-inch Saige™ doll featuring long auburn hair and an array of outfits and accessories, including a hot-air balloon and a posable horse. And, to extend the fun for girls, a new movie based on Saige’s stories will premiere in 2013 on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Saige Copeland, American Girl, 2013

To support Saige’s message of preserving arts programs in U.S. schools, American Girl is sponsoring a school grant contest and partnering with Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education. American Girl’s “Shine On Now” charitable initiative will provide financial support to the organization’s Arts Education Program, which provides arts education professionals with the information, materials, and resources they need to enrich student experiences with the arts.

To further engage girls, American Girl is introducing the following Saigeelated initiatives:

  • Elevate the Arts School Grant Contest: Starting January 1, elementary art teachers can enter to win one of thirteen grants totaling $45,000 for their schools’ art programs by submitting a digital image of a hot-air-balloon-themed art project and a written essay that conveys why the arts matter in their schools. Entries must be received via the online form by May 31, 2013.
  • Soar with Saige Sweepstakes: Girls can share their artistic talents by downloading a hot-air balloon template from americangirl.com/girloftheyear and creating a colorful design using crayons, markers, or pencils. All balloon artwork sent to American Girl by April 1, 2013, will be uploaded to an online hot-air balloon mosaic and automatically entered to win one of ten prize packages.
  • Saige Learning Guide: American Girl has teamed up with Americans for the Arts to create this free, downloadable curriculum, which encourages children to draw on their imaginations and discover how creative they can be. Students in grades 3 to 6 will enjoy reading Saige’s stories and doing the fun art activities outlined in this curriculum. Activities for parents to engage in with their kids are also available via Americans for the Arts’ website: AmericansForTheArts.org/go/AmericanGirl.
  • Saige Retail Events: Starting on January 1, girls can take part in Saige-themed events at American Girl retail stores nationwide, including painting demonstrations, free craft activities, photo opportunities, and delicious Saige-inspired meals.

On January 1, 2013,the Saige collection will be available through American Girl’s catalogue, at americangirl.com, and at all American Girl retail locations.

About the Doll

As the War of 1812 begins, so does the story of Caroline Abbott’s bravery. She loves sailing with her father, but when he’s captured, Caroline must help keep the family’s shipyard running. When she sees a chance to rescue her father, Caroline discovers that she must use her mind and heart to guide her decisions. From sharing winter fun to helping on the farm—it’s all in Caroline’s six-book series.

Caroline Abbott™ is a daring, self reliant girl who learns to steer a steady course amid the challenges of war while growing up in Sackets Harbor, New York, on Lake Ontario during the War of 1812. The Caroline doll is 18” tall with light aquamarine eyes and long blond hair. Monster High Dolls ( @monsterhigh ) Allow Children to Explore Their Own Freaky Flaws

September 25, 2012 by dadofdivas 39 Comments

About Monster High Dolls

Monster High dolls are freaky in their own way,  but offer kids the opportunity to see and understand these flaws from the first point that they start playing with them. On top of this, with more and more girls and boys geting into the monster craze, these dolls fit right in. With dolls such as Cleo De Nile, the daughter of the Mummy or Clawdeen Wolf, daughter of the Wearwolf among others. The other things about the dolls is that they have their own online universe that brings fans together to learn more and have fun.

My daughter has enjoyed playing with these dolls for a little over a year now and as time has gone on, Mattel has brought out more and more fun toys for fans, which has been great. They even now have kits where you can build your own monster, which my daughter loves.

If your child enjoys playing with dolls and using their imagination to develop their own world, this is definitely the set for them as they will love how they can just let their imagination soar!

As a parent, what I like is that each of the dolls do have their own flaws, and it is these imperfections and insecurities (that kids learn about) that allow kids to know that they too do not need to be perfect!

2012 American Girl Doll McKenna Offers Beautiful Construction and a Great Story and Message to all Girls

December 26, 2011 by dadofdivas 11 Comments

This January, girls everywhere will flip for McKennaTM, American Girl’s new 2012 Girl of the Year®. A determined, energetic girl who loves gymnastics, McKenna shines on the balance beam, but when she falls behind in school, she must use her strengths to turn challenges into triumphs. Through McKenna, girls will discover the power of believing in yourself and your potential to achieve great things.

American Girl is also introducing a companion book to the McKenna series, Take the Challenge: Crazy Challenges and Silly Thrills to Explore Your Talents and Everyday Skills. The non-fiction activity book is filled with more than 100 challenges, including brain-building games, timed tasks, crafts, and quizzes, to help girls improve their skills and boost their self-confidence.

Starting on January 1, 2012, the McKenna doll, books, and accessories will be available for one year or while supplies last through American Girl’s catalogue, at americangirl.com, and at all American Girl retail locations. To request a free American Girl catalogue, call 1-800-845-0005.

Available for one year, McKenna will launch with two books that tell her story; a beautiful 18-inch McKenna doll featuring long, caramel-colored hair and blue eyes; and an array of outfits and accessories that bring her world to life. And, extending the fun for girls, an all-new movie based on McKenna’s stories will premiere on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment in 2012.

Written by Mary Casanova, the 2012 Girl of the Year books, McKenna and McKenna, Ready to Fly!, introduce readers to McKenna Brooks™, a skilled gymnast whose confidence tumbles when she starts having difficulty with reading comprehension—an issue affecting many children as they enter fourth grade. With the help of her tutor, McKenna learns to bring the same focus and determination she uses in her gymnastics training to improve her reading skills and get her grades back up. As McKenna’s self-assurance deepens, so does her desire to help her friends to face their own challenges. The nonfiction section in the back of the McKenna books features questions and advice from real girls on overcoming obstacles in the classroom and beyond.

To explore their own special talents, girls can participate in the McKenna’s Take the Challenge! strength-finding quiz at americangirl.com/girloftheyear. Upon completion of the quiz, girls

will discover their top three strengths out of a possible eight categories, such as Music & Rhythm, Math & Numbers, and Nature & Animals. After completing ten fun offline challenges     that correspond to a particular strength category, girls will receive a trophy. And for each        trophy earned, American Girl will donate 25¢ (up to $50,000) to Save the Children’s U.S.     Literacy Program.

Blog Pop Christmas Wishes ( #bpopcw) @PlaymatesToys Heart 4 Heart Girl Doll Giveaway

November 3, 2011 by dadofdivas

Between November 3-6 the 10 bloggers from Blog Pop are working together to bring you some awesome giveaways! So go and check out the following blogs for some other great prizes, and remember to come back here a lot over the next few days to enter for some great prizes! Quick Tattletails Still Blonde After all These years The Socialite’s Closet Stash Mama Momma Told Me
Turning the Clock Back Making Ends Meet My Life with Rats and More Confessions of an Overworked Mom Dad of Divas

My next giveaway is Below!

Girls can make a difference and change the world…and it starts with a doll!  The Hearts For Hearts Girls, which is a charitable doll line and fashion collection from Playmates Toys, seeks to empower girls to become agents of change in their communities, their countries and around the world.  The line features six dolls that represent real girls from real places all over the world.

Each authentically dressed and lifelike doll has her own story to share and is working to change her community in ways unique to her home country.  For example, Consuelo is based on one beautiful real life girl from Mexico who helps hungry children living in the streets of her community. Her parents own a bakery, and Consuelo decides to open a “café” where hungry children can come for unsold baked goods at the end of the day.

Girl power is global, and Hearts For Hearts Girls help youngsters see how they can make a difference at any age. Girls can help others in need simply through the purchase of a doll. When you buy a Hearts For Hearts Girls doll, a portion of the purchase price is donated to children’s causes in that doll’s country. Playmates Toys is working with non-profit partner World Vision to make this possible.

The Hearts For Hearts Girls come to life with a fully interactive website that lets girls discover different cultures, hear about girls just like them and learn about how they too can make an impact. Each doll comes with a special code that lets girls unlock a free membership to the kid-safe website at www.hearts4heartsgirls.com.  All girls are welcome to visit the website, but the special code that comes with purchase provides access to a larger array of games and also lets girls create their own “my Heart” page which displays things they care about and ways in which they want to help other girls or their own communities.

“These dolls make a perfect gift for parents who are looking for unique and interactive ways to expose their daughters to different countries and cultures,” said Gina Beebe, SVP, Girls Marketing of Playmates Toys. “The dolls are also an excellent way for parents to teach their children about the importance of giving to those who are less fortunate.”

The 14 inch dolls retail for an affordable $29.99 each and are intended for girls ages 6 and up. The six Hearts For Hearts Girls include:

    • Consuelo lives in Mexico City, aiding hungry children who are homeless and live on the streets near her parents’ bakery. She loves pretty colors — notice her earrings and pretty pink floral headband.
    • Lilian of Belarus is determined to help girls whose parents must find work in the city — and are forced to leave their children with orphanages. Lillian is dressed in a Russian long sleeved blouse and colorful vest with traditional embroidery.
    • Dell lives in Kentucky’s Appalachian Mountains where she creates music and knitwear to share with others who need warm clothing. Dell wears a camouflage cap and a butterfly necklace.
    • Rahel of Ethiopia journeys with her family into the bush to help bring back aid to her community. Rahel dreams of becoming a doctor, which will allow her to make a real difference for people of all ages in her region. She proudly wears colorful beads of her native land.
    • Tipi lives in Laos, and is based on a real girl who shares her art and storytelling with others through dancing, drawing and puppetry. She leads her school in a mural contest in hopes of winning much-needed books for her class.  Tipi’s authentically detailed t-shirt and cropped pants reflect her sweet nature.
    • Nahji hails from Assam, India, and breaks tradition to bring courage and learning to the girls who must work the tea fields. See her beautiful earrings, nose gem, necklace, headpiece, and henna on her hand — all distinct and authentic details.

Included with each doll purchase is a friendship bracelet and a story booklet explaining (at an age-appropriate level) how these multicultural girls live and contribute to their families, communities, countries and the world.

To further bring to light each Hearts For Hearts Girls’ culture, additional fashion assortments are available for the dolls.  Youngsters can envision each doll’s story as they play and change their doll’s attire. The basic fashions include Tipi’s two-piece pajama outfit patterned after authentic Lao fabric, Consuelo’s dance dress inspired by traditional Ballet Folklorico costumes and Lilian’s fleecy, furry outfit designed to keep her warm on the cold winter nights in Belarus. The basic fashions retail for $12.99 each.

The deluxe fashion assortment includes themed fashions and accessories. The assortment includes Nahji’s costume sari and tea set, Rahel’s school uniform and school supplies, and Dell’s dance outfit and accessories inspired by traditional clogging in Appalachia. The deluxe fashions retail for $17.99 each.
