Swingin To The Stars

I try to keep my enthusiasm in check, but this morning over at DadBlogs they are having their annual spring giveaway and this one is a doosy. They have partnered with Kids Creations to give away one sweet swing set. Now I am not talking about a run of the mill swing set, oh no, this is one to drool over! 
Many of you may know we just moved to Michigan and my daughter (Diva-J) has been all over me to find money on the ‘Ol Money Tree to go and buy something that I would typically not even call a swingset, at least not in the sense that I am used to. No more metal or wood swings, now a visit to Toys R Us brings us to seeing mechanical and archetectural wonders with every thing this side of the kitchen sink. Now I am not saying that I would never break down and get something for my kids (what dad could say no to those pleading eyes…right?), but sometimes I have to say how much is too much.
At the same time, I take pause because at our new house we lack a play structure to date and our neighbors, well actually, a few of our neighbors have much more cool places to hang out, as Diva-J tends to want to spend more time away from our house than at home. I am starting to wonder whether we have a preschooler or a teenager (for more reasons than this let me tell you). 
In looking, reading and hoping that I win this contest (I tend not to win much in my life – just ask my wife), I was extremely impressed at both the quality of the materials, but also at the ease at setting this up. I mean, 5 hours is nothing, and having a father-in-law who was a carpenters son also doesn’t hurt/ Maybe we can cut that 5 hours down to 4? You never know! 
In thinking back to my own childhood days, I can remember the first swingset that my parents got me. It was the old standard metal A frame with 2 swings and a slide. I remember spending all my free time out there and trying to get my friends over to play as well (this was before nintendo, though Atari and intellivision was popular). If I won his, I can just picture in my mind the bugged out eyes from Diva J but also Diva PJ (She would grow into it)…and I would be the father of the centruy (Now who wouldn’t want to be considered this, at least for a day that is). 
If you do not want a swing set they are also giving away a Canon PowerShot SD1100 Digital Elph. Most of you know how much I take pictures, so a new digital would also be great for me (though I woud still prefer the playstructure as you might have guessed!

One last thing is that if I won, this would be a great belated birthday present for me (I am a kid at heart!).

Operation DIVAS

I have been thinking a lot about what the name of this blog means. The history behind the name is as such: When I started the blog, I started it initially as random thoughts I would share with whoever would listen, as well as family and friends.

As I started to read more from other Dad Bloggers I saw the wealth of rich knowledge and experience that was being shared with others and I wanted to be more of a part of it.

When this realization hit, I was talking to J-Mom and told her that I wanted to have a creative name to talk not only about myself, but also one that was relevant to my family life. Knowing our girls quite well as she does, she came up with the name Dad of Divas (Thanks Sweety)!

At first a Diva was just that, but recently, as I have been thinking of the blog redesign that Summer worked on for me, I started to think in terms of acronyms.

I wanted to think about what DIVAS could stand for for the new design and I ended up coming up with (With the help of J-Mom and other close family members) –

  • DIVAS = Drama, Imagination, Vibrancy, Attitude and Silliness

This truly encompasses my life on a daily basis, as probably many dads could also attest.

SO as I continue to blog I will use this as a way for me to filter my thoughts somewhat at least and this will also give you an idea of where I came from and what DIVAS really stands for (outside of the literal meaning that is)!

Thursday Thirteen #3 – Why My House is A Diva-Dome

13 things that come to mind about why my house is truly fir for divas!

1) I have 2 girls who are either true Divas or Divas in training

2) Dresses….dressing up, etc

3) BLING! (Necklaces, rings, galore)

4) Can someone say play vanity (No makeup allowed on these girls at least not yet thankfully)

5) Princesses, Princesses, and more Princesses (We should own stock in Disney) – check out a great post over at Building Camelot on this!

6) I can imagine what life is going to be like when the girls are teenagers (you know a while back I got something regarding an application to date my daughter…I’m saving it for later in life!)

7) Dancing, Dancing, and more Dancing

8) Immediate gratification… “I want…” or from Diva-PJ – WAAAAA (I want _____ now!)

9) Demanding attention at all times!

10) Money for nothing! (Can you buy me that???)

11) Fake Cell Phones (actually inoperable cell phones that J-Mom and I had)

12) Enough decorations/stuffed animals to rivals most.

13 Stuborn, stuborn, stuborn

So how is your home like a Diva-dome???
