Disney and Marvel Announce the Winner of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge!!!

In conjunction with the May 6, 2016 release of Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Marvel Studios, Dolby Laboratories, Synchrony Bank, Broadcom MASTERS and Science & Entertainment Exchange, a program of National Academy of Sciences are proud to announce the MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – GIRLS REFORMING THE FUTURE CHALLENGE Grand Prize Winner and recipient of an internship at Marvel Studios.

Maia Dua, from West Sacramento, California was selected from five finalist as MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – GIRLS REFORMING THE FUTURE CHALLENGE Grand Prize Winner and will participate in a week-long internship at Marvel Studios. Over 1,000 young women from across the nation accepted the challenge to use science and technology to create a project that would create positive world change for their generation and beyond. Maia developed a “seeing eye” robot as a cost-effective and durable alternative to a seeing eye dog. The self-propelled, echo-locating “Seeing Eye-Bot” is made of readily accessible materials, making it more available to individuals of limited financial resources. Maia designed the seeing eye-bot to require minimal maintenance and to have a functional life span in excess of 7 years. Maia hopes her invention can address the needs of the visually impaired, who may be unable or unwilling to own a seeing eye dog.

Maia will spend a week at Marvel Studios, learning firsthand how STEM skills are being used in innovative and creative ways to produce some of the world’s all-time favorite characters and films. At the conclusion of her internship, Maia will join together with the four other finalists form Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge; Holly Riepling from Colorado Springs, Colo.; Janie Kim from San Diego, Calif.; Margaret Fleck from Emmaus, Pa.; and Vivian Qiang from Marlboro, N.J., to inspire other young girls around the world by participating in a special LIVE global webinar hosted by Broadcom MASTERS. During the webinar, all five girls will discuss how their STEM skills enabled them to create their projects and become a finalist of the Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge. Maia will share her Marvel Studios internship experience, giving girls everywhere a peek into STEM skills in action outside the lab and classroom.

One exceptional young woman will be selected to receive a one-week internship with Marvel Studios. In “Captain America: Civil War,” each hero is forced to take a stand and choose a side in their fight to reform the future. Although the team becomes divided, they remain united by the same goals: the commitment to safeguard humanity, protect the earth at all costs and make the world a better place for future generations. Marvel, continuing to build on the success of the Ultimate Mentor Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy: Guardians of Good, and Ant-Man Micro-Tech Challenge, is launching the GIRLS REFORMING THE FUTURE CHALLENGE to engage young women to further the Avengers’ goal of making the world a better place.

This program, supported by the Science & Entertainment Exchange, a program of National Academy of Sciences, seeks to inspire young girls to create positive world change for their generation and beyond through science and technology. One exceptional young woman will be selected to receive a one-week internship with Marvel Studios. The challenge invites girls nationwide,ages 15 – 18, in grades 10 -12, to submit innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)-based projects that have the potential to change the world. Each applicant will be asked to submit a short video demonstrating her project andexplaining how her science and technology-based project could make the world a better place. Five finalists will be selected to come to California and present their projects to a panel of experts. One grand prize winner will be selected from the five finalists to receive an internship with Marvel Studios.

Finalists will have the opportunity to inspire other young girls around the world by participating in a LIVE global Broadcom Masters webinar during which the girls will discuss how their STEM skills enabled them to create their projects and become a finalist of the Captain American Civil War: Girls Reforming the Future Challenge. The Grand Prize Winner will share her MARVEL STUDIOS Internship experience, giving girls everywhere a peak into STEM skills in action outside the lab and the classroom.

Each finalist will receive: Two round-trip tickets to Southern California for the finalist and her parent or guardian, including scheduled meals, ground transportation to and from organized activities, hotel accommodations, from April 10 through April 13,2016; an opportunity to be on the red carpet at the World Premiere of Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” at the Dolby Theatre^® in Dolby Atmos^® and Dolby Vision™ on April 12, 2016; a tour of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California; and $500.00, deposited into a High Yield Savings account with Synchrony Bank.

Marvel Studios Begins Production on Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War!

Marvel Studios has commenced principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on “Captain America: Civil War,” the third installment of its Super Hero franchise. The production will shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production, as well as locations in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Marvel Studios Unveils Phase 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe! #Marvel

This morning, during a special event at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed the films that will make up Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring a mix of fan-favorite characters and several heroes who will be making their big-screen debuts.

The next two films to be released by Marvel are AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015, and ANT-MAN on July 17, 2015. Marvel revealed the dates and titles of nine additional films through 2019, including upcoming Captain America, Thor, Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy installments, along with films featuring Black Panther – who, Feige announced, will be played by Chadwick Boseman – Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and the Inhumans.

The announced films are as follows:

5/1/15 – AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
7/17/15 – ANT-MAN
5/6/16 – CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
11/4/16 – DOCTOR STRANGE
5/5/17 – GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 (previously dated 7/28/17)
7/28/17 – THOR: RAGNAROK
11/3/17 – BLACK PANTHER
5/4/18 – AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PART I
7/6/18 – CAPTAIN MARVEL
11/2/18 – INHUMANS

Ten films have already been released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with 2008’s IRON MAN. All 10 films opened at #1 domestically and have collectively grossed over $7.1 billion globally.

Two of these films, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS and IRON MAN 3, set records as the #1 and #2 domestic openings of all time with $207.4 million and $174.1 million respectively. MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS went on to become the third biggest film of all time worldwide, while Marvel’s IRON MAN 3 ranks as the sixth biggest film ever. They are the two highest grossing Super Hero films of all time.

Earlier this year, Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, which broke the April opening domestic record with $95 million, earned $714 million worldwide and is the #5 film of 2014. Most recently, Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY crossed $757 million globally after opening with a domestic August record of $94.3 million and setting an October debut record in China, where it has now grossed nearly $90 million. It’s the #1 film of the year domestically and the #3 film worldwide.

eKids Captain America Technology Offers Great Sound Quality!

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier now being in theatres, eKids, a sister company of iHome Audio has introduced some amazing new technology for kids that connect kids, not only to the movie, but also to some great technology.

The eKids Captain America Over-the-Ear Headphones feature an adjustable headband and soft ear cushions, while the Noise Isolating Earbuds are compact enough to throw in the carry-on for summer travel! The Rechargeable Character Speakers are also very travel-friendly and lightweight, hooking up to any MP3 player or laptop to play movies and music.

The items vary from $14.99-$24.99 and are available at eKids.com.

My Take on the Products

I have been a fan of Captain America for years, and now with the movies out, a new generation is also getting connected to this great American icon. On top of the movies though eKids has come up with a HUGE line of products that allow kids to connect with their favorite characters (from super heroes to Mickey Mouse and more!). I was lucky enough to be able to try out a few of the items above to share my thoughts on with you today.

I tried the headphones that you see at the top of the screen and the wireless speaker above. First off, I have to comment on the artwork and design of the products. both were well done artistically. I loved the color scheme and its connection to Captain America. That being said there were a few details that I loved on these products. For example, the shield that is on the side of the wireless speaker was a great touch and something that I would not have expected to be there. On the headphones, I loved how the color scheme worked throughout the product itself as it added to the overall consistency with the theme.

Best of all for both of these items was the sound quality that you received. The headphones truly canceled out outside noise and in trying them on my oldest daughter, they fit her perfectly. My youngest has a smaller head and the speakers did not fit her as well (but not many headphones do). The wireless speaker was easy to set up and the rechargeable battery held quite a bit of life (more than I had expected) before needing to be recharged. As in most rechargeable technology, they encourage that you run the battery all of the way down before recharging, so keep that in mind as you use this.

All-in-all the design and sound quality were definitely things that sold me. On top of this though, in reviewing the website, I have to say that I was VERY Impressed with the selection that eKids offers, as I was not expecting the breadth and depth of products and characters that were represented.
