Using Manwich Bourbon For A Great Summer BBQ Meal

June 30, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Kroger

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.

After just getting back from being in North Carolina and having BBQ, I felt compelled to do a little shopping myself to get into the BBQ spirit. I have not had a good BBQ Burger in a while and in going to my local Kroger I found that there was a brand new Manwich, Manwich Bourbon that was perfect for the burgers that I wanted to make (Manwich can also be made with chicken or pork).

Manwich Bourbon

We were having a few kids over to spend the night so to tide them over I also made sure to pick up a few Slim Jim Premium Sticks, as I knew that the kids would be hungry and we needed something to hold them over until I could pull the burgers off of the grill.

I do love to cook, especially on the grill. I also like to experiment a bit and in seeing the Manwich Bourbon I knew that this was a perfect time to experiment with this to make an amazing burger. It was not hard to create the burger itself. I used the below recipe to create the ultimate Manwich Bourbon Burger.

Manwich Bourbon Burger (Makes 6 burgers)

  • 2 lbs of ground round
  • 1 can of Manwich Bourbon
  • Breadcrumbs (use only if meat becomes too runny from sauce)
  • 6 Hamburger Buns

Manwich Bourbon

This was a very easy recipe as all you have to do is take the meat and slowly work in the Manwich Bourbon into the meat itself. Depending on how much meat you have will determine whether you need the entire can or not. You do not want the burger to be too runny. If you find that the burgers have become too runny, then add in breadcrumps into your burgers to soak up some of the sauce.

Once you have put together the burgers, you will want to allow them to sit in a freezer back to hold in the sauce for about an hour or so.

Once you are ready to make the burgers, take the out of the fridge, fire up the grill on low heat and cook slowly to taste.

The burgers also taste great with cheese, so pick out your favorite cheese and melt on the cheese while the burgers are still on the grill.

Manwich Bourbon

Biting into the burgers you will get to taste the great sweet and tangy flavor of the Manwich Bourbon BBQ Sloppy Joe Sauce. While Manwich has been around since the 1960’s this new flavor really kicks up the flavor even more. I also love that in an entire can you are only getting 180 calories (35 calories per serving).

I also have to say that the kids did love having the Slim Jim Premium Smoked Sticks as snacks. They have tried these snack sticks in the past but we usually get the smaller sticks so having the larger sticks was definitely a treat! What I love about these premium smoked sticks is that each stick is grass-fed 100% beef or 100% premium pork, always raised without hormones, and with no artificial colors or flavors, and no added MSG. Also, each serving contains at least 10 grams of protein.

While I was at the store I found a few varieties available, but I chose to select The Smokehouse Original stick contains brown sugar and soy sauce, combining for a sweet and savory experience with a hint of spice (100% Grassfed Beef, 10g Protein).

Creating the Ultimate Burger Using Mushrooms! #shroomtember

Disclosure: I have partnered with Life of Dad, LLC for the #ShroomTember promotion. Sponsored by The Mushroom Council, the #ShroomTember promotion gives anybody the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card.

#shroomtember

My wife and I have always been big fans of mushrooms, especially morels, but I am not against trying other types too. I have experimented win cooking with mushrooms in many ways over the years. Combining them with pasta, placing them on chicken, grilling them, baking them. Though I have tried mushrooms on almost anything, I had never tried to combine mushrooms in making the ultimate burger. When I was asked to try this out by Life of Dad and the Mushroom Council. One of the things about mushrooms that I have always liked is that mushrooms blend so well with other foods. This is why you see mushrooms in so much!  This along with the fact that they taste great and are low in calories, you get the best of many foods in one!

In coming up with this ultimate burger I thought about flavor and some of my favorite shrooms and cheese, to create a Smoked Gouda, Onion and Morel Burger that would be both filling, flavorful and satisfying.

#shroomtember

I tend to be the one in the family that is adventurous when it comes to food, but I wanted to be able to try something that would be something that everyone would like, even the girls. By putting together the ingredients below I was confident that everyone in the family would love this, even my girls, as they would not even know there were mushrooms in it (my girls sometimes are a bit squeamish when it comes to mushrooms).

It took about 15-20 minutes to prepare the ingredients into the burger patties that I was making. I ended up using egg and bread crumbs to bind the meat together and it worked like a charm.

#shroomtember

The burgers cooked very evenly and as long as you grill them on medium low heat (to keep them from burning and drying out) you are going to find that they will take about 20-30 minutes depending on how you like your meat.

The burgers themselves were delicious. The one thing that I was surprised about was that the cheese stayed sold within the burger. While it became softer than it was it still was in the cubes that were there when I created the burger patties themselves. Even though this happened, the flavor was exactly what I had hoped for and everyone that tried them raved about the flavor and how well they turned out.

#shroomtember

In saying all of this, I have definitely found a recipe that I will be keeping and I would highly recommend that any and all of you try this yourself, as you will not be disappointed!

INGREDIENTS

1/2     Cup of Lawry’s Seasoning

1 /2    Vidalia Sweet Onion (sliced)

2          1LB containers of Lean Ground Beef

2          Eggs

1 1/2    Cups of Italian Bread Crumbs

1           Package of Morel Mushrooms

1/2       Package of Smoked Gouda

1           Tablespoon Margarine

DIRECTIONS

  • Place the beef in a large bowl. Combine Lawry’s Seasoning with beef by combining with hands and kneading together.
  • Wash mushrooms.
  • Slice the onion and set in a saucepan with Margarine – set aside
  • On a cutting board dice mushrooms and cube Gouda into small squares. (you want to make sure that these are not too large as you will mix these into the meat)
  • Once the mushrooms and Gouda are complete, empty into bowl with seasoned beef.
  • Add in eggs and breadcrumbs
  • Combine all ingredients within the large bowl. Once combined form burgers into patties of your size and liking.
  • Grill on medium low heat to desired temperature.
  • While grilling saute onions until soft.

Once your burger are the right temperature, cover the burger with onion and serve on your favorite bun and enjoy!
