So my family was put to the test and while they decided not to give me Bratfest in bed, they did decide to surprise me with Bratfest at lunch. Actually, after church yesterday, they told me to kick back and that they were going to surprise me with a special lunch. There have been times when I have been given a “special lunch” before made by the kids, and that was let’s just say, interesting, but I went along with it like a good dad should!
I knew that I had been given Johnsonville coupons, but we had not talked about when we would use them. To my surprise, my wife had used them to get quite the array of Brats, Sausage and Kielbasa. Talk about a lunch/dinner all mixed into one!
I am usually then one doing the grilling, so when I heard the family getting the grill ready, that made me stand at attention. I was quickly told to stay put, and no butting in… so I know when to keep my mouth shut.
If I had known this was happening I would have made a video while it was as I loved how fun the Johnsonville video was, but alas, I was surprised, so I Couldn’t. However, my wife did take some photos which I am sharing below!
The family also surprised me with Sauteed Onions and Sauerkraut for the Brat & Kielbasa – talk about being in heaven!
While many times, my wife will follow the advice of my friend Mike Vrobel from Dad Cooks Dinner such as he gave in his Pan Grilled Bratwurst recipe, she instead decided to differ a bit and boil up the Johnsonville Bratwurst and and grill them for the last few minutes to keep the temperature and the feasibility for over-cooking minimal.
When she finally told me to come in I was floored by the amount of food and how great everything smelled. What was better though was how everything tasted! The bratwurst was tasty and amazingly light. Even my oldest, who tends to be the most picky at dinner, said that it was good and I too have to agree. The flavor was amazing, the cooking (from what they told me) was easy, and there was very little to deal with afterward, as everyone cleaned heir plates (which is always a good sign)!
This was a great early Fathers Day and a wonderful surprise!
Here is a Fun Recipe for some Fathers Day fun!
