The Game of Life = Great Family Fun! #Giveaway

January 29, 2014 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

the game of life

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

I have so many great memories of playing the Game of Life when I grew up. I always loved having the ability to choose your future at the pick of a card, and inevitably ending up living in a home that looks like it might fall off a cliff (but at least you end up saving money).

Since I have been a parent I have had the opportunity to play this game with my daughters and they like me have loved playing a game as well. In talking to my daughters they mentioned that they really liked to be able to be in control of their future and it always seemed to put them into laughing fits when they would have a car full of kids.

In playing this with my daughters I was truly taken back to my own childhood and I feel myself truly letting loose and simply having fun with the kids, getting on their level and be their dad which is really all they want.

If you have never played this game for yourself or with your family you should! This game is a blast and will provide you with great memories that will last you and your family well into the future.

About the Game

Where will your choices take you in the Game of Life? You made it through high school, so now what’s next? Go to college or start a career – it’s your choice. Think the family life is for you? Take that path and see how many kids you’ll have! Will you venture down the risky road where fortunes can be won…and lost? Do whatever it takes to retire in style with the most wealth at the end of the game. Spin the wheel of fate and take a drive along the twisting roads families have enjoyed for more than 50 years! Do good deeds as you go through the game to earn Life Tiles and more money down the road!

Giveaway

How would you like to win this for yourself or for your family? All you need to do is fill out the below form to be entered.  The contest will run for one week and will end on October 19, 2012.

Winner must be a resident of the U.S.

Funny or Die Brings Hilarity To Your Party #Giveaway

December 23, 2013 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

funny or die, hasbro
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

About the Game

Hasbro is joining forces with Funny or Die, the popular comedy video website, to bring you the ultimate in caption craziness with the FUNNY OR DIE game. Try to one-up your friends by matching outrageous photos and captions to create the best laugh-out-loud combo. Everybody votes on which is the funniest and which one must “die.” Players earn money for having the funniest pair and the player with the most cast at the end of the game wins. With hundreds of hilarious pictures and captions, the FUNNY OR DIE game will have players laughing till the very end.

Funny or Die

My Take on the Game

This was a fun game for older children and adults, not for younger kids. We had a blast playing this with our adult friends and once we got into it I could see why this would not be appropriate for young kids as there are some cards and sayings that are a bit inappropriate for that age range. The game though does capture humor and allows you to have fun with the images and let your imagination soar. The other nice thing with this game is that it is relatively short (about 30 minutes) and you can easily play a few rounds throughout the night if you so choose to have extended fun as your party continues! All-in-all, a great game for a party setting for older ages!

Twister Dance Rave Gets You On Your Feet #Giveaway

October 18, 2013 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Twister Dance Rave
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

It’s party time! The TWISTER DANCE RAVE game brings the fun with today’s hottest music, great speakers and LED lights that shine to create your very own dance floor. Girls will love learning dances and showing off their moves to songs from popular artists, or they can plug their own mp3 players into the console, turning virtually any song into a dance song! The party never ends as players continue to learn new dances by following the lights and moving to the beat on the iconic TWISTER spots in head-to-head or freestyle play. (Requires 4 AA batteries – demo batteries included).

My Take on the Game

This is the perfect game for a sleepover, or so it seemed with my oldest daughter. The girls that came to our house had a blast learning dance moves as well as being able to plug in their IPod right into it to allow them to dance to their own music and not just the music that is pre-loaded. The game has four movable spots for up to four players and at the sleepover itself they did not want to stop. While I jumped in and tried it out, I think coordination for this older guy may be a bit lacking as I think I would still do better with the original classic version, but for my kids, they loved this!

Monopoly Empire Lets You Take Control! #Giveaway #PassGoMonopoly

September 10, 2013 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Monopoly Empire, board games, #familygamenight, #giveaway photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

Monopoly Empire

Twenty-two top brands such as Coca-Cola, Xbox, Samsung, EA and McDonald’s line the tricked out game board, letting players live out the fantasy of owning it all! Make your way around the board buying up your favorite mega brands and adding them to your billboard tower. Collect rent from your opponents based on your billboard and be the first to complete your town to win the game!

Monopoly Empire

Features

  • Higholling Monopoly game
  • Buy your favorite brands and offices to build all the way to the top of your tower
  • Win by filling your tower with billboards
  • Includes gameboard, 4 towers, 6 tokens, 30 Billboard tiles, 6 Office tiles, 14 Chance cards, 14 Empire cards, money pack, 2 dice and instructions

My Take on the Game

I have tried a number of different monopoly games in the past but this is different than the others and provides a much faster game play than you have in other versions. My daughters and I could finish a game of this in a little more than 30 minutes, so no more daylong monopoly extravaganzas, and instead we could get a few games in after dinner before bed if we would like or differentiate games and still get a few in on a family game night.

A few other things that I noticed that my kids liked included the fact that the properties were all ones that my kids knew. No more did that have to know about St. Charles Place, but now were collecting brands like EBAY, Coca Cola, XBox and more.

The game also allows all to play without worry of bankruptcy. Because it is a shorter game everyone can play and have fun throughout the game without this worry.

I will say that I was surprised at how much was on this board. This was a crammed board with a lot going on. There really is not much room to be able to fit much else, including the dice!

The game itself does capture the idea and essence of Monopoly yet the strategy of the original game is a bit lacking in this game and instead it is more social in nature and you simply get to have fun. Thus, even for younger players you can be successful at this even if you don’t have the ability to strategize your next few moves as you really need to be able to do from the original game.

My Take on the Game

We are a BIG gaming family! Not only am I talking about video games, but we have more board games than we know what to do with, and family game nights are both fun and sometimes a little competitive as any good game night can be. I became a fan of Skylanders when I first tried it out at the Time to Play Holiday Showcase that I attended a few years back. At this event Skylanders was just getting started and I simply wanted to stay at that table for much longer than I probably was supposed to.

I had the opportunity to try out and review the full version of the game when it came out in 2011 (http://dadofdivas.com/giveaway/blog-pop-christmas-wishes-bpopcw-skylandersgame-provides-interactive-fun-for-all-giveaway) and then a year later when they unveiled Skylanders Giants I wrote about it here too (http://dadofdivas.com/producteview/skylanders-giants-skylandersgame-adds-a-new-dimension-to-a-fun-game). So you can probably guess that my daughter and I jumped at the chance to try out this great videogame as a board game, and on top of that it was a board game that I always grew up loving!

In trying this game you get the same type of gameplay as you do with regular Monopoly, but completely branded for the Skylanders fan. The playing pieces are intricate (The ship was a bit wobbly on the board though) and we loved the names of the different board pieces. I also found the idea of auctioning off a game piece if another player does not want it to be novel and I was able to get a few really good pieces of property for amazing prices.

We also tried the rules for quicker gameplay, which took our game from unlimited time to only 1-1.5 hours which was more manageable. We had a blast with this game and know that we will continue to have fun with this in the future as well.

If you are already a Skylanders fan, then this is a must have, and if you are still learning about this great video game, but you love board games, Monopoly has done it right and this Skylanders themed Monopoly game is a blast and you and your whole family will have hours of fun playing it as my family already has too!

My Take on the Game

This was a fun game for the whole family. While I had not tried past versions of the game I can say that I quickly got the hang of the game and found the game to be both fun and engaging (and my family ended up having a blast too). While I played this first with a smaller group of people I can tell that this would be a game to bring to any party as it is fun and makes you have to be a bit wild and crazy with your betting strategy so that you can come from behind to take the game!

As mentioned I only tried this version, but if the other versions are anything like this, I would have no qualms at going out and purchasing as my family had a blast with this and I know that yours will too!
