Top Ways to Breathe New Life Into Your Old Car

September 1, 2018 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

Top Ways to Breathe New Life Into Your Old Car

Everyone loves to be able to go out and buy a new car after they have clocked up a few thousand miles, however, for most of us, financially this is not realistic and so we need to come up with other ways to improve our current ride. Here, I am taking you through some of our top ways to breathe new life into your old car and save yourself a tonne of cash along the way.

New Tyres

One of the easiest ways that you can breathe some new life into your old car is to get a new set of tyres for it. While you may be thinking that this type of investment is a little boring, if you don’t have a good grip from top quality rubber then all other power and performance upgrades will go to waste! So, make sure you start off by firsts getting yourself a new set of tyres.

New Spark Plugs

When you are improving your car, many people tend to overlook getting spark plugs, but this is a mistake. New spark plugs are affordable and can make a big difference. The higher quality the spark plug is, the better your combustion will be. This then means that you can look forward to more power and better fuel economy.

Performance Exhaust

If you are driving an older car, it will most likely be a cheaper exhaust system in place, so it is a good idea to look at changing this for a performance exhaust as this can free some of the power in your engine. This will allow for a quicker path for exhaust gases to escape from, allowing your engine to breathe better and give you more power.

Engine Control Unit Flash

Did you know that many manufacturers program the engine control unit parameters to below the car’s capability? They do this for it to act as a safety net, but if you reprogramme it you can unlock lots of engine performance and even better gas mileage.

Install a Cold Air Intake

If you want to make your car run better, then you will need to make sure that it can really breathe. This is where the cold air intake comes in! This device will free up the air flow to your engine but not only that, it will also feed the cooler more condensed air and this is exactly what your engine loves!

Install New Bushings

Installing new bushings is not as easy a process, but it is definitely well worth the extra time and effort! If you are unfamiliar with what bushings are, they can be found between the suspension and frame and the engine and chassis of your car. These rubber bushings are designed to help kill the vibrations in your car, but in older cars they can tend to wear out and crack over time. We would recommend that you opt for polyurethane bushings as these can last a whole lot longer than standard rubber bushings and they will also do a great job of quelling vibrations and minimising weight transfer.

The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families

 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

When taking a trip with a family you need space and the 2016 Kia Sorento SXL was the perfect vehicle for our family in a recent trip that we embarked upon. Why do I say this? Well, you see for us to be able to fold he seats down to the ground in the third row was SO important on this trip as we knew that we were going to have to pick up our oldest daughter from summer camp and we were going to stay away from home for a week. To be honest if we did not have a seats that folded flat, we would have been sunk, but the Kia delivered and while we were packed to the brim, we fit completely!

The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families

On top of space this vehicle was SO comfortable. The kids had all the room that they needed and they commented over and over how comfortable the seats were. I noticed right away how quiet the vehicle was and how smooth of a ride this was too.

The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families

When you are traveling for long periods you want a vehicle that makes the time feel like it is passing quickly and while I know that the Kia did not speed up time, because of the comfort I found that I was not focusing on the time that was being spent.

The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families

The vehicle was filled with so many safety features too which made me feel secure, especially with the fact that you get things like:

  • Dual front advanced airbags
  • Front seat mounted side airbags
  • Side curtain airbags in the 1st and 2nd rows
  • Anti-lock braking system
  • Blind spot detection system
  • And much more!

The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families

Best of all is the warranty. The Kia brand itself is so inclusive in its’ warranties. People who purchase from Kia will get:

  • 10 year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty
  • 5 year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty
  • 5 year/60,000 mile roadside assistance

We loved how far we could get on a tank of gas too. With 22 mpg combined average and 25 mpg on the highway we did not have to fill up many times during the entire week which ended up saving us a ton of money!

The 2016 Kia Sorento offers space, safety and comfort for all families

Overall, for a price of $45,095 this fully-loaded Kia Sorento is a great buy for a family like mine and for yours too!

Here is a video with more of my thoughts on this great vehicle:

My Take on the Brush Hero

Over the past few weeks I have been using the Brush Hero on my two cars. At first I did not know what to expect. Would it scratch the chrome on my vehicle? Would it get my vehicle as clean as I hoped that it would? The answer to the first was no, and the second was a definitely yes!

The device itself was very cool. Once you hook this onto a hose reel, you will see the brush head rotating over and over. The concept is that by rotating you will be able to clean and the rotation gets things cleaner that simply rubbing something. This worked very well on wheels. I found that in working on one of my cars that tends to have more brake dust, that this really cleaned off the dust so much quicker than any other way I had ever tried in the past.

I found that the device was very easy to use. The long handle helps you to access places you would not have prior to this.

I have yet to try this on other surfaces but I think it could easily work with other surfaces and I am looking forward to trying it on them in the future. I will have to come back and update all of you later once I do!

Cars.com #newcarface Contest Lets You Show Your Car Colors #dachat

November 18, 2014 by dadofdivas 1 Comment

newcarface
Sponsored by Cars.com
 photo disclaimer_zpsaa1cb05b.jpg

I remember the first time I went car shopping to buy my first car. My wife and I had been married for a bit and one of our cars had recently gotten into an accident (not our fault). Our car shopping process ended up getting placed into overdrive and we had to start looking everywhere. We looked online, in local car selling magazines (as this was before Ebay and Craigslist). J-Mom and I did do our research online through cars.com (as the site was active) and by talking to people at car dealerships too. We looked at a lot and came to decide upon buying a 2002 Ford Escape. While the vehicle we found was used, it was in great shape and had everything we were looking for, so we were definitely happy with the find, and the price.

We have had this vehicle for the past eleven years and it has been a great vehicle. It currently has over 140,000 miles on it. Saying this, I have recently started to look for a new vehicle to replace this one. I drive a bit to work every day and this vehicle just does not get the gas millage that I want. Also, so many cars of a similar make are getting such better gas millage now that I really want to make sure that I am getting this too and thus saving money on gas in the long run.

New-Car-Face-Cars.com

In jumping into this search my wife and I followed a very similar pattern as the time when we purchased the Escape so many years ago. We looked online (even more than before) and did go out and check out the cars we liked at the dealer too. We went back and forth on whether to purchase new/used or lease. We ended up deciding on purchasing a new car (even though I have to be indebted to anyone).

#newcarface

We also explored many different makes and models. There are a number of ones that I could be happy in, so at this time, though I have yet to select a car, we still are having a tin of fun trying out cars as well as learning more about them too. Now, I have to take the time to learn even more and start to decide things like: Do I buy foreign or domestic; car safety; cost, room inside the vehicle, standard features versus optional upgrades and other things like this!

#NewCarFace

I am so looking forward to the day when I too have a new car that I can call my own!

As I am going through this car search I am having some fun too with the Cars.com newcarface contest. This is a fun contest that allows you to show your new car face with everyone. There are some very cool examples from other people that have entered the cars.com contest that might even give you some motivation as you take your own #newcarface photo! So enter today and see for yourself, it is so much fun!

I had another great opportunity over the last few days to try out the Mazda 6. Just like in my previous Kia Forte review, this was my first experience driving a Mazda and I had a lot of fun. Below is a video of my experiences with the vehicle.

Some information about the vehicle:

  1. Mazda Radar Cruise Control System‡‡‡

Automatically controls the engine and brakes to maintain a safe speed and distance between you and the preceding vehicle.

  2. Forward Obstruction Warning System****

Detects obstructions ahead and warns you of a possible collision.

  3. Smart City Brake Support††††

Helps prevent frontal collisions when driving at low speeds by automatically applying the brakes, if needed.

  4. Lane Departure Warning System‡‡‡‡

Alerts you when the system senses the car drifting unintentionally from its current lane.

  5. Rear Cross Traffic Alert*****

Alerts you if vehicles approach Mazda6’s rear from the side when you’re geared for reverse.

  6. Blind Spot Monitoring*****

Alerts you if a vehicle or object is in one of your blind spots and it’s unsafe to change lanes.

  7. High Beam Control System†††††

Automatically switches from high to low beams when it detects
oncoming traffic, and then back again when it’s clear.

What are your experiences with this brand?
