DVD Review – Read and Share: The Jesus Series, Life and Miracles

May 20, 2010 by dadofdivas Leave a Comment

About the DVD

Take a wonder-filled journey with Jesus and His disciples.

Animated straight from the pages of the popular Read and Share® Bible, The Jesus Series introduces children to the life of Christ. Unlike the 3-minute, bite-size story format of the Read and Share® DVD Bible Volumes 1-4, this DVD is an uninterrupted half-hour presentation of Jesus’ ministry along the shores of Lake Galilee and the villages near Nazareth. Children will see Jesus call His disciples, feed 5,000 people, heal the sick, teach about God’s kingdom and introduce the Lord’s Supper.

This DVD completes The Jesus Series by presenting the life of Christ in a way that little ones can understand and build a solid foundation on.

 My Take on the DVD
I shared this DVD with my 5.5 and 2 year olds and we had mixed response to this DVD. My two year old watched for a few minutes but then decided to go and do her own thing, while my five year old watched a bit more intently. At the end in asking how she liked the movie she mentioned that it was alright, but I could tell it wasn’t one of her favorites. In trying to delve deeper, I think she was disappointed by the voices of the characters and the lack of music (as she loves music).

For me, the storyline was strong, yet I found myself thinking that there were parts of the stories that were being told that seemed to be left out. Maybe this was for flow and understanding of the child who would watch it, but I would have liked to see more of the stories filled in altogether.

Overall, the DVD was good, and if you are not sharing stories like this with your children this would be one way to provide such a glimpse into the stories contained in the Bible.

If this sounds like a DVD you would like for your own collection you can find it on Amazon!
