When it comes to my daughters I truly want to encourage them to be creative and to use their imagination in anything that I have them do. Throughout their lives we have purchased toy kitchens and even a toy house to allow them to live like older people, as they always loved to do this. As a part of this imaginative play, things like food, plates and even more were always needed to complete the imaginative play. With that in mind we are always looking for high quality toy makers that can provide such items to make the play itself come alive.
One company that I was just introduced to was HABA, a German toymaker that has a huge array of toys that can be used to make the play of young people even more engaged. Lately, The German toymaker has been spending lots of time in the kitchen, bringing their European flair to soft play American-style foods. Flavors include Apple Pie ($13.50), Hotdog ($10) with Ketchup & Mustard ($3.60) that “squirts” red or yellow string (gets a laugh every time!) Kids who really want to help out mom and dad in the kitchen should check out the gorgeous (and functional!) Silicone Kitchen Molds (priced from $10 to $25.) Fill the popsicle and ice cube trays with sorbet for a nifty treat. Baking molds for cupcakes and cakes can be popped in the oven to create a jungle snake cake or safari-themed cupcakes.
I was lucky enough to get a few of these toys to have my own kids try out and then to provide to my daughter’s elementary class. In receiving these toys I have to say that I was amazed at the intricate detail that were included in each of the sets. I received the Apply Pie, Hot Dog, Ketchup and Mustard (as mentioned above) as well as Sushi and Salt & Pepper Grinders. I loved some of the great extras that were included in these toys, such as the yarn that pop out when you squeeze the Ketchup or Mustard or the fact that the top of the Salt and Pepper Grinders actually turns and sounds like a grinder.
These toys are of the highest quality and the attention to detail is stunning. I was completely impressed and know that my kids were too. I placed these in Diva-PJ’s Kindergarten room and the kids flocked over to them and wanted to start playing with them immediately (always a great sign).
All-in-all I have to say that I was completely impressed with this toy company and their toys and know that any parent looking for imaginative toys would do well to remember HABA.
You can find these beautifully crafted play things at specialty stores near home. Or check out HABA’s own English-language site at www.HABAusa.com.
