Dads in the Limelight Series

Our 369th Dad in the Limelight is Jason Greene. I want to thank Jason for being a part of the Dads in the Limelight series. It has been great getting connected with him and now sharing him with all of you.

Jason Greene, Dads in the Limelight, #limelightdads, Dad of Divas, dadofdivas.com1) Tell me about yourself, (as well as how you are in the limelight for my readers knowledge)

My name is Jason Greene and I have a parenting blog called One Good Dad. It can be found at www.onegooddad.com and www.thejasongreene.com.

2) Tell me about your family

I’m a stay-at-home dad and my wife is an attorney. We have 3 children — a boy that will turn 9 in July, a daughter 7, and a 17 month old son.

3) What has been the largest challenge you have had in being a father?

The biggest challenge for me has been doing things on little to no sleep. You can really make poor decisions or have a bad attitude as the result of living without much rest.

4) What advice would you give to other fathers?

My advice would be to “be there.” It doesn’t matter if you mess up from time to time, just be active in your kid’s life. That can look different depending on the situation you are in, but be active to the best of your abilities.

5) Seeing that you (or your position) are in the limelight, how have you come to balance parenthood and outside life? If you are currently not in the limelight per se, please still answer this in regards to how you balance parenthood and outside life.

Being a dad is everything to me and there is no distinction between outside and inside, since my work as a dad blogger overlaps with my role as a parent.  But I’m very active outside the home in my community and church, and being a dad influences how I approach those roles and what I bring to the table.  I have a strong support system in place — my wife helps me to do the things that I need to accomplish and we have neighbors and friends that pitch in with childcare when I have to leave the kids. I’m also a playwright and pursuing that has been a challenge because it is hard to work on plays while holding a toddler. I haven’t quite mastered that yet.

6) What have you learned from the fathers that you have interacted with?

I’ve learned from other fathers that there is no one set way of doing something. Every one has their own way and just because it is different doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

7) What else would you share regarding your experiences as a father thus far?

Being a dad has been a lot of fun, but it is also challenging. I’m not just talking about hard it is to take a daughter into the men’s bathroom. The fact that we are responsible for another human being is huge a weight. Then you add the amount of love you have for that tiny person and the weight grows greater. But it is a weight worth carrying.

8) What have been the most memorable experiences that you have had thus far as a parent?

I have so many memorable experiences that it is difficult to narrow it down to a couple. All 3 of the births obviously have been memorable, but also a kayak trip with my son, watching my daughter — who was a preemie — break boards during various Taekwondo classes, and watching my 17 month old love and admire his siblings are all up there.
If you have any questions for Jason, please leave a comment here and I will make sure that he gets them so that he may be able to respond!

Also, do you know a Dad in the Limelight? If so, please email me their contact information so that they too can be a part of this series!
